I see the Ultra is not supported for this App. Disappointing considering we still can't download with Iplayer.......
Devices which can use Anywhere app
Sony Xperia L (C2105)
Sony Xperia SP (C5302/03/06)
Sony Xperia Z (C6602/03)
Sony Xperia Z1 (C6902/03/06/43)
Sony Xperia U (ST25)
It's Virgin's responsibility to update their app. Send them a mail and ask if they can update it.
The Ultra is missed by a lot of developers. I've had a good response rate from developers and they have all said that they acknowledge the issue and will get an update done.

They have only just added any Android support - took them ages. Use the "Contact Us" form on their website to request it to be added, that's what I've done.
If you are rooted there uses a module for xposed called play store fixes which tricks it into thinking the dpi of the phone is different.

I don't believe it's a DPI issue, it's model.
Answer from Virgin Media, not good news:
Thanks for your e-mail to Virgin Media about the availability of the
Sony Xperia Z Ultra on TV Anywhere.
We understand your concern.
Right now, we're sorry but it doesn't look like we've got any plans to

I don't see why there's a problem, there are many android devices with the same screen resolution and processor.
I would try one of the market helper apps, or xposed, to make Google Play think you're on a recognised device. I had to do this with previous phone, Note 2, to load the tesco clubcard TV app.

Doesn't the phone have to be rooted to use xposed? If so, then the app won't work anyway on rooted devices according to the comments in the store
A late reply but I have a One X which is also not supported. I used Device Spoofer to make my device appear as the HTC One. I was able to download and install the app from the market. In addition the app's record, remote control and program manager functions work perfectly however the ability to watch programs on the phone is blocked by a root checker.

You can only install the app on an approved device though (officially). The TVguide app has record functions but it doesn't have have network remote features.
Why do they do a root check? You can use the software on any PC, with whatever hacks you want installed, but there's some obsession with root on Android...

just read yesterday about the cloudon app (a virtualised microsoft office) - it suppose to be available for android 3 and 4 in the us and uk. i am in the UK and have JJ ICS rom on the ARC S but market doesnt give me the option to download this apk
this is a url to it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cloudon.client&feature=nav_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDNd
It seems to be a tablet only app based on it's description which is why you can't download it.
Assuming you're trying to download this on your phone

If this app is designed for tablets, it will not work in a phone, because the resolution. You can install it, no doubt about it.
i see that for italians there's no cloudOn in the play store. can anyone post the apk?
i want to use an office like app instead of polaris but with link for box.net dropbox and drive.

This app will not work on phones due to resolution. That's all.
Greetings.
Ok so I am using Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly builds and have recently bought a Smart TV and want to share my data i.e (Video, Pictures, Music etc)
I am trying to install the Samsung Link software (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sec.pcw) and its failing to do so. I managed to download the .apk from an alternate source and tried installing it.. That failed too.. Is there no way to get this app working on my phone with Cyanogenmod?
Alternatively anyone who has a smart tv with inbuilt WIFI and Bluetooth is there any other way to connect to the tv? What are the features I will lose if I use these alternate methods of connecting? like WIFI Direct, Bluetooth or Cloud storage!
you could not install samsung stock apps on CM roms as they require framework. that's almost impossible.

please let me know if i'm wrong and CLICK thanks if i help

What does that mean? TV out? Do you mean things like screen mirroring, file sharing etc?

Overall must say CyanogenMod is awesome but i simply do not understand why the HDMI connect is not supported and why it never will be. Everyone has SmartTV and everyone eventually will use that feature sooner or later. It's so frustrating. I even installed CyangenMod on my brothers phone recently and he is cursing me because certain apps do not show up in Googles app store. He is a doctor and he needs some of those apps.
For example i have latest nightly installed on my HTC One M7 and i even cannot connect via Wireless Display on my Samsung Smart TV UN55F8000.
I love cyanogen and its update policy is the best but Day by day things i cannot do which become more and more common cannot be done because CyanogenMod won't recognize apps or simply does not work with certain devices. Sooner or later it will become big issue in the future if the list which can't be done will become bigger and the things which can be done will be just like checking the facebook status.
It's just sad.

Hi!
I'm not new to the rooting scene - I've rooted practically every Android device that I've ever owned. However I can not, for the life of me, find any documentation at all on the interwebs about rooting the LG Google TV running Android 4.2.2. Towelroot and other root apps did nothing for me, sadly.
The reason for rooting is that I want to purchase Lightpack, an awesome TV backlighting system that can work with rooted Android devices to backlight the TV and effectively "extend" the screen (Google it for more info - XDA will not allow me to post outside links since my account is new). The app is installed on my TV just fine, but the issue is that Lightpack cannot enter "screen grab mode" without root, which is the mode where the lightpack updates in real time with the colors of whatever is on the screen, hence the whole point of purchasing it.
Has anyone been successful in rooting the LG Google TV? Here are my specs:
Android 4.2.2
Model no 47GA6400-UD
47" LG branded "Google TV" - once again cannot provide URL because I am below the post limit. Google the model no for more info.
Would be awesome if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Thanks for the link, but it looks like they don't have anything on the LG branded Google TV and rooting it - only the Sony models. Can't find anything at all about LG model anywhere! Crazy.

Maybe The Sony One Is Easier To Work With Haha, Well Sorry I Couldnt Help And Good Luck !
Sweet! I got my LG Google TV rooted! I used Cydia Impactor over Wi-Fi and then installed the SuperSU APK manually - worked like a charm. Now I can buy Lightpack and it will work!
So excited. Yes!
Wish I could post a tutorial for those other LG Google TV users out there waiting for root - I can't post it yet because XDA is disallowing images and links in my posts until 10 posts.
Guide
Did your ever get a guide done for this? I'm interested in rooting my Google tv for lightpack.
I could share contact details if you would prefer.

I did, actually! Without huge knowledge of Android. I didn't find a guide specific to LG Google TV, but I found something on the web and did the equivalent of SSH into the TV over WiFi and pushed the root to the TV remotely. Unfortunately even with root, Lightpack's lazy devs never got screen capture working fully. It bogs the TV resources down so badly that the TV won't even shut off, have to unplug it.
So good news and bad news. Rootable but useless for Lightpack screen capture. Other root stuff works though.

Hi everybody.
I'm writing from Italy.
Here we have the tv provider SKY.
There is an Android app for the users that is call SkyGo and it is compatible only with some device. But on the internet you can find the "modded version" of this apk that can run on every device ( tablet and smartphone). So there is a person that modded this app and released it for the community, but i don't know who is this person.
This italian tv provider lauched an online streaming service that is called "Sky Online". It offers some Live channels and different contents on-demand. I'm an user of this service and i love it because you can choice what you want to see and pay for it, month by month.
They released the Android app only for Samsung Tablet ( NO smartphone). And they said that for the moment, they will not release the app for the smartphone. You can find it here: http://apps.samsung.com/venus/topAp...|@tot=863|@idx=0|@doc=G00020657218|@title=nil because it isn't on the Play Store.
Someone posted the apk on internet and i tried it on a HP Slate 8 Pro and it works. Other users tested it with other tablets and it works.
I'm not a developer, and my question is. Someone can decompile, modify, and recompile the APK to work with smartphone? Because if you install it on a smartphone, when you launch the app you receive a error.
My purpose is to use the service that i pay, everywhere i will be. On my smartphone.
If anyone want to help me, I attached the apk of the app.
I'll up the thread because the mod of the forum sposted it in the right section and so, you can see it in this section.
I very appreciate if anyone can help me. :good:

If you have a rooted device, you could try to change LCD Density (screen dimensions) by using exposed app settings module.
You can find the thread on this forum or search in italian pages for "xposed framework" "app setting".

Sent from my SM-T320 using XDA Free mobile app
Rumor sadly incorrect: Android apps won't run on the Z1.
I'd love to find a way to install Android apps on the Gear S. The Tizen app store is such a joke
Google won't let Samsung get away with installing Google Play Market apps, especially Google services apps on a non-sanctioned OS, especially the one Samsung is hoping to compete against Android OS. So, the best Samsung can do is create its own app market and hope devs are supporting it. I seriously doubt this will take off. Samsung can't even make its own Android app work correctly across its own ranges of Android phones. They know how to make fantastic phones but their software has always below average.

Glad im not the only one.
I too have been searching for how to do this. Did you ever succeed?
I found some android 5.0 links from a google search, but they look fake. wonder if CM11 or CM12 would work OR the method used for the gear 2. Sure would be nice. i almost got the ZGPAX S8 (nearly the same guts), but opted for the Gear S (for the scren) w/ hopes for the eventual android ROM.
Fingers Crossed,
:good:
hasnt happened, there is nothing in the works, any links on google that say otherwise are false....
