I had the same problem once. I backed up the original rom fine using CWM but when trying to restore it, it failed.
I then had to flash Stock rom to get the phone working.

From this reason I have flashed TWRP, although I always preferred CWM

Backup on TWRP is working good ?

[Q] galaxy can't finish backup

Hello, I have a galaxy s3 rooted with cwm 5.5 something and I'm using revolution Rom by Mike based on JB. I wanted to do backup so I'd be able to recover it at some point in the future, however it says that it can't backup system somehow, shall I update cwm through ODIN and then check?

Have you got enough space on your sd card to perform a backup?

Full wipe is
- Wipe cache
- Wipe Dalvik cache
- Wipe User data/factory reset
- And manually format /system
If you do all these wipe you should not get any FC on any working custom rom. What recovery version you use?
6.0.3.1

First thing to try is reverse back to your last working recovery
How to do that?

Er.. maybe I get you wrong. You don't upgrade cwm recovery to new version, right? All you do is install new ROM and restore cwm back over it. Is this correct?
CWM recovery backup is not compatible across custom rom. I can restore CM 10.1 cwm back on CM 10.2 rom. But I got FC when try to restore data from CM 10.1 on AKOP rom. If you want to restore /data from difference rom, it's safer to use Titanium backup.
I use jellycream rom now.when i back to stock,i root and get unlock bl,after 2-3 days my phone got fc very often.

You got FC on what application? Clean install should not have that problem. If you post logcat maybe others can help you find out what the problem.
Ok bro, never mind, thanx for helping me.

Need HTC One Stock Recovery!

Hi. I really need the stock recovery.img for HTC One (AT&T) So I can OTA update. I lost my backups of the stock recovery, and need it. Anyone got it?
You need to factory reset and wipe data to do so

Well first of all,you have to be rooted, the download from Play Store,Titanium Backup and choose what you want to backup(backup app+data)

CWM Image
Hey if you have a Custom recovery installed (like CWM or TWRP), you can get an image of the whole device (including the ROM, data, boot, etc.)
Press Volume Up + Home + Power button while off to enter recovery.
I recommend PhilZ touch recovery.
(You probably didn't need the /system and some partitions, but it isn't bad to know.)

Well,in your internal storage is a folder called TitaniumBackup, copy that folder to s5 intranl memory, install Titanium Backup on s5 and just restore the app+data(it saves the entire app+data),but you have to have the s5 rooted
If I do a nandroid back with android SDK and then restore it on a s5 would that work because if I root my s5 and reinstall viber with data I won't be able to install the updates for the phone

Nandroid includes the system. Restoring a s3 system in a s5 is a bad idea.
Its all good I found a app called helium can backup and restore apps without root thanks for all your suggestions tho

CMW vs TWRP

Which is better if there is a better choice. I was thinking about trying TWRP but can a CMW backup be flashed in TWRP?

Cwm..clock work mod.
And no..backups cannot be swapped between them..and usually not between different versions of the same recovery..although there are workarounds for the later.
