TinyShark & Android 4.4 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have recently updated my Nexus 4 to Android 4.4. Since the update, TinyShark (3.1.9) will not play songs. The app starts, and connects without any problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but the songs will still not play. I don't take too kindly to KitKat right now.

Forget TinyShark, use this Grooveshark port: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2278089&highlight=grooveshark

Tried both the original DMS and the GS skinned one - same issue as TinyShark.
Using OmniRom

Bump. Still a problem it seems. Anyone know why?

Unfortunate that the issue still has not been resolved by the developer.. BUT why don't you just listen from html5.grooveshark.com ? that usually works for me.
The TinyShark Downloader still works fine as well, you just have to preview songs on the html5 website.

Mostly because my playlist lives in my app and I'm lazy
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

I think the problem has to do with the way the app references the download location. It is trying to directly access the device for storage instead of /sdcard and kitkat doesn't allow this.
I changed the download directory in TinyShark Downloader and got it to work, but I can't change it in TinyShark. Anyone know a way to do that?

[Q] Music Beta not compatible?

I don't get the music beta app in the market. When I try to download it online it tells me my eris is not compatible. Is this a hardware thing? Will it never become available? Same issue with the Netflix app.

There are a couple of apk's floating around that will install on the Eris of each of those apps. I've tried out the Music app and it worked fine for me until you put it into landscape mode and try to do something. Then it would force close. The Netflix app installed with no problem, however, for it to work on the Eris it seems you have to modify the build prop to make your phone look like a Nexus and even then I'm not sure it will work properly. The netflix app alone with no data and not signing in is 26.1 MB in size installed on the phone... That's a big app... More than double the size of maps.
This kind of thing happens when an app is not officially "supported" on our phones, like if you searched for Flash player 10.3. But if you get the .apk, there is always that slight chance that is may work [And here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072655]
OK, here's how nube I am. What do I do with an apk? Do I need something like root manager to open and install it?

New Market V3.0.27

Anyone else get a Market upgrade today to Version 3.0.27? Mine has an entire new look with Apps, Games, Books and Movies! I'm liking it!
Yup, I spent a lot of time browsing movies. Anyone know if we can get them on the gTab/what ROMs?

They're afraid rooted devices can pirate the movies. Like they said it wont play through the market but.....hey have you checked YouTube lately.....

Well, it's a DCMA restriction to prevent piracy... so unless they bring in some heavy DRM protection, rooted devices won't be able to play movies through the market.
Quoted from Google Support:
Playback not supported on rooted devices (Error 49)
We do not support playback on rooted devices for copyright protection reasons. You can enjoy your movie on a different device, or on your computer at market.android.com/movies, or on youtube.com/movies if you have a YouTube account.

Is anyone else having issues with the Market on VeganTab Gingerbread version 7. My wifes table is running that. When I launch the Market, it crashes after 6 or so seconds. I removed the update, and it worked for 30 seconds, but then I guess it repushed it self and then crashes again. Tried clearing cache, and all that jazz, but seems like the new version of market isn't working any longer
Are people having issues with Vegan Tab 5.1.

Nexus Q Working on ICS

I have some of this posted in the Q&A but thought it deserved a thread here as I now have it working with Google Play Music on ICS. I have not been able to get the new YouTube application ported over to ICS yes but I'm still working on it.I could probably get this working on Gingerbread by changing the manifest again but I no longer have a GB device so if someone really wants it let me know.
What you need:
The modified NexusQ.apk file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28636772&postcount=23
The new 4.3.605 Google Play Music apk which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19423409&postcount=1
A Nexus Q and WiFi network.
A device running ICS. I used my Bionic running leaked ICS but I did have to root in order to install the new 605 Play Music application.
Instructions:
Install the new (4.3.605) Google Play Music application from Steve0007's posted linked above. If you get an "Existing package with same signature.." error you will need to do the following (this is what worked on my Bionic):
WARNING: ROOTING YOUR DEVICE AND CHANGING THE SYSTEM FILES CAN CAUSE BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Root your device (I used this method on my Bionic: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...gh-releases-ics-leak-root-exploit-bionic.html.) Install Root Explorer from the market and delete the existing com.google.android.play.music.xxx.xx.xxx apk from /system/app. Reboot device. Copy 605 apk to device and install.
END SCARY ROOT WARNING
Install the modified NexusQ.apk, plug in the Q, turn on Bluetooth on your device (it will prompt you to if you don't) and get connected! I had to go through the process several times before it successfully paired up but from what I've read the same is true on JB devices as well. If you need to wipe out the Q you do so by unplugging it, plugging it back in and as soon as the blue ring starts place your palm over the single LED on the top until the ring goes from flashing red to swirling purple. This will factory reset the device. Since getting both my Bionic and Xoom paired it's worked well.
Enjoy until the official ICS and below apps drop from Google.
If anyone is successful at getting the JB YouTube application working on ICS please let me know.
Thanks to everyone that helped me get this working!
Thanks a ton!!! I've added a link to this in my roll-up (here) in the general thread so others will find it. I'm now able to use my Nexus Q, thanks again!
Eventually I'll start learning to do some dev work :/
I followed your directions but I still cannot stream anything, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I was able to get the Nexus Q 8 Ball easter Egg to work.
What is your current status? Do you have the 4.3.605 music player installed? If so you should have the little "beam" icon on the top right when playing music and tapping that should make the Q almost instantly start streaming that song.

Did you read the part about needing to manually remove the old play music application via root explorer (or a simple uninstall if allowed)? Have you tried either?
I wasn't too happy with Google either but the support page for the NQ does say that it is only working on JB until purchased units start shipping. Plus I've learned a lot getting this to work! ;-)

Yes I read that but the old play music was not in the system\apps directory but it was still installed so not sure. I force stopped it and uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still would not let me install the one listed.
Hmmm, I think that's two of you with problems installing on CM9. I don't have anything running that ROM (and you can probably tell I'm already pretty much at the limits of my skills) but perhaps it is installed differently in that ROM. Unfortunately I don't think I can help you with this one.

Just though I should specify what rom I had success with. I copied the app to /system/app folder and changed the permissions. I did NOT have google music previously installed. When I ran the app to install it said install failed. I then installed the NexusQ app directly from my SD card, which installed no problems. I did not try to run the NexusQ app and rebooted the phone. Once rebooted i turned on my WIFI and bluetooth and launched the NexusQ app and rebooted the Nexus Q. The app paired up with the Q no problem. I was then able to run Google Music app and play to the Q with no issues. *NOTE* When i walked out of the house (i did not manually disconnect the wifi or bluetooth, just hit the stop play music button and turned off the TV and receiver) and came back later, turned the TV and receiver back on, the visualizations or music track would not show at all. Just the NexusQ home screen. I rebooted the Q and everything is working fine again.
No, youtube does not work (which I think is posted an original post somewheres). It seems that a ported app will be needed to push youtube videos to the Q. I cannot test Google movies/TV as I dont own any.
I've tried exactly this on my HTC One S running ICS (albeit with HTC Sense) and can't get it to stream to the Q.
Everything installs fine (if I move it to /system/apps and change the permissions as mentioned) but I see no option in the Play Music app to stream to the Q.
Additionally, the new Play Music app looks it has lost quite a bit of functionality to the previous version - perhaps indicating that the installation went badly? For instance, there are much fewer options on the settings page and there's no option to choose or configure my Google account anywhere.
bobukcat - is this the case for you?

Yes that worked for me!
It still took a bunch of tries to get it to do anything though.
For a long time, and several reboots, the Q didn't show up in the list of devices in Play Music...
No idea what I did, but all of a sudden it showed up.
Volume control from the phone still doesn't work, and YouTube/Videos don't work either.
At least now I can enjoy it a bit until they release the real apps.
Thanks a ton for all the pointers and packages!
What order did you install the packages? Play Music first and then the Q app? Or the other way around?

The Q app first.
When the Q finally showed up in the new Play Music app, it was after turning wifi off/on a few times ... don't know if that's what finally did it though.

No, my play music application has all the previous functionality and even more options in Settings, including Nexus Q settings. Did you install the Q application first? I don't know why this would matter but that is what I did.
Did you just move the new play music apk to the /system/app location or did you actually install it from application manager in Astro or other file manager? I don't know that just moving the apk to that folder will work (I don't think I even tried that) so you may have to delete the old one, reboot and then install the new one from the apk. Please try that and let us know if it works.

Yeah, I've tried to rebuild the YouTube application from JB with a new manifest multiple times but I still can't get it to work right, I did finally get it to install but it just constantly FCs and never really runs. Clearly someone much more skilled than I (which wouldn't take much) at modifying apks would need to look into this or we just wait for the official app from Google to drop.
Strange that the volume control from your phone doesn't work, as long as I'm in the Play Music application it works fine on both my Bionic and Xoom.
As reported in the OP I too had lots of errors and force closes, etc. when trying to get this to run the first time but from what I've read that happens on JB devices too and in fact I had a few on my Xoom running TeamEOS nightlies.

play music won't download music

Every time I try to download my music through Google play music it does not work. I am noticing this problem more on my nexus 7 but there have been some occurances on my galaxy s 4.
I have tried all basic trouble shooting. I have cleaned chache, force stop, clear data, uninstall and reinstall up dates, also I have tried to download different tracks in case there a problem with a certain one. I even got so desperate I did a factory reset on my nexus 7.
Any thoughts besides what I have mentioned above are greatly appreciated. I am getting desperate.
I'm having the same problem! It's driving me crazy. I've tried clearing cache, uninstalling the app, trying different songs / playlists.
I've tried two different ROM's thinking that maybe it was the new ROM I installed. Also having similar issues on my tablet. Both devices will download some tracks then fail with others but it's never the same songs or playlists.
My phone is a Verizon HTC One M8 and i'm having trouble on Sense ROM's, GPE and LiquidSmooth as well as issues on my Verizon LG G Pad 8.3
I have solved my problem. The problem was that I had just recently uploaded an album and Google tried to match some of my songs with theirs so it would upload faster. Well I found out I couldn't play the songs they matched. I deleted them and bam everything is fine now.
If that doesn't work for you I contacted Google and they said that with the most recent Google play music update there is a known problem that you can't download songs and they are working on it. Hang tight.

Hello, i have manage to some how get show box to work on android 5.0. Please follow my steps very close.
First. Download aptoide, on google search try searching for aptoide and download it. Aptoide is like a store to get free games and apps.
Second. On aptoide search for showbox and it should show the version 3.7 install it.
Third. Open showbox and it will probably force close or it will give you a server error.
Fourth. Go back the aptoide app and search for showbox again.
Fith. Once you have search and clicked on the showbox 3.7, click on app next to download and click on app 3.6 and install it buy taping on the downgrade icon.
6th. Open the app the app and it will no longer force close but it will still give yoy the server error.
7th. Go back to aptoide and search for showbox once again and upgrade it to 3.7 after that it will work. Well atleast that workex for me. I hope i gave good instructions as i am new to this and im just trying to help. By the way i am running android 5.0 on my nexus 6.
Thanks....the apk work for me @ mrsimpson321
