Hello Everyone,
I have some queries regarding my S3, I would appreciate helping me in answering them
1. Is 4.3 stable in general ( Regardless of the ROM ) !? , I mean was it released "officially" by Sammy and users around some parts of the world begun to receive the updates !?
2. Now I have been on "Android Revolution HD" for quite some time now , I've been on 29.0 (which I liked). But recently I updated to 40.0 (which I didn't like that much [ battery drain, lagging ... ] ) . Might those problem I've been having related to the fact that I didn't Wipe !? ( even though I was upgrading the same ROM )
3. In short words. what is PROS and CONS of flashing a custom kernel !? Cuz I'm thinking of doing that !?
Sorry if It's too much ,
4.3 is stable if you use the Chinese kernel. If you have any problem with a rom the first step is to full wipe and reflash. Custom kernel is personal choice, like the rom. Asking for recommendations is against the rules and will get your thread locked.

Thank You , I edited the last part out
so what does affect the battery operation more, the kernel !? or the ROM !?
The screen on time effects battery time most, followed by what the phone is doing while it's in standby. Custom kernels add tweaks for the enthusiast, to fiddle with things you can't with stock, but best battery life comes from disabling apps & services which run all the time. Rom is very much like a wife, you have to find one you can live with -the good thing about xda is you can try several before settling down.

Greetings all..
I just bought a SAM Ace.. i had a Htc Magic then a X10 mini and now i turned to SAM.. heard that it was a good machine.. so..
I've been using XDA to root, and install new roms to my previous phones..
But in this SAM, unfortunately i am a bit conserned.. So can any1 help me in this questions:
: I'm running Ginger 2.2.3 updated throug Kies
1 - My mobile is sim locked.. i can't use any other sim.. I already searched that is possible to (root) the phone and then install an apk that unlocks the sim lock.. has any1 tried this? is it safe?
2 - I'm a bit worried to (root) this phone, does any1 report any problem after with network, battery and general stability of the device?
3 - Is the best stable official rom at the moment the one i have now or is there a better one ? Though Kies i can't find the 2.2.4v u guys are talking about.. so .. This isn't really an official rom right?
4- Since i've got my phone from Vodafone, it has some operator aps that i don't really use and they are using needed space, is there a way to remove them somehow.. like.. instaling a official rom from elsewere, but still upgradable through Kies? Or do i really need to (root) the device? After rooted, can i still install a official 2.2.3 rom.. but.. without all the operator crap?
5 - There are a few custom roms as i can see, i used to use de Cyanogen in my X10 mini, but i had some issues with sending and receiving mms.. , at the moment.. is there any stable and fully operational roms ? including the mms solved problems..? cof cof.. and good battey usage time ?
6 - Sorry for any bad english.
Thank you !!
Welcome to the community!
For question 4,I have used 2.2.1 and 2.3.4.felt ok except the wifi died occasionally which was a documented problem.
For question 5,I am currently on cyanogen but its a rc version.I am quite happy with it as performance boosted.but it came at the price of battery life.haven't tried mms though

Try to use cyanogen for the rom.

1. No idea although I don't see why it wouldn't be safe.
2. Rooting is easy. Like everything else, be careful and follow instructions to the T and you'll have no problems.
3. Correct. There is no 2.3.4 update through Kies...I think. Plug your phone in and find out.
4. If you want to remove bloatware, root your device and use Root Unistaller. Alternatively, flash a new ROM.
5. There are two variants of CM7.1 at the moment. One was made by BehradGH the other by Grif_07. Both work wonderfully.
6. It wasn't that bad =]
EDIT: Welcome to the SGA forums =D

1.
You should really be cautious when trying to unlock your phone. A lot of people bricked their phone by doing this. Since I have no personal experience in this; all I can do is direct you to threads on XDA but I'm too lazy to look them up for you so I suggest you to use "search".
Thanks to those who answered..

I am using Icecream Sunday by Jusada. It's an ICS themed CM7.1 ROM but it has been stripped down to the bear minimum. Jusada initially made it as a foundation ROM for developers to then customize as they saw fit but it has become very popular amongst forum members as a day-to-day ROM. It is very stable and more importantly (for me) it is FAST!
Also, because it has been stripped down, I have noticed a lot better battery time.
Granted, the battery life on almost all Android phones is crap, but if you're looking to be more conservative with power and increased speed, use Icecream Sunday.
So to answer your question - I get about half a day's SOLID use from my battery.
As far as MMS goes, I am not sure. You'd have to ask one of the devs.
Hope that's helped

Welcome to XDA!
1) It can be quite tricky to unlock the Ace, and can brick/reset it. First check if it really is locked.
2) There's risk involved in rooting, but it's minimal - if you follow the instructions. There are pros and cons of rooting, but the pros outweigh the cons.
3) Kies sucks IMO, so you're better off upgrading with ODIN. Look in this section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1167.
4) The best way to remove the bloatware/crapware is by rooting and then uninstalling them, or by flashing a custom ROM.
5) There are a lot of stable ROMs available, take your pick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194358, there's supposed to be an official Cyanogen for Ace(cooper) in the works, but if you can't wait that long, I recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263292

Hey guys, so now as I tried like all CM9 ROMs for Xperia U (Locked bootloader) I wasn't satisfied because of numerous things: battery life, random restarting, and on the last rom it was the worst. Started bootlooping out of nowhere. All my app data was gone (well the last Titanium backup, which was like 3 weeks old).
Now I would like to ask you guys, which is the best Stock ROM for Xperia U?
I have tried Xperiance Lite 3.0 (Might try if it updates, but that developer seems to be in-active) and the new one RowROM which I rushed to download as I needed my phone back to life again (after I got bootlooped from CM9).
I need: Good battery life (2-3 days, similar to stock), good performance, cool looking like custom SystemUI, obviously toggles on Status Bar because I don't like installing Power Toggles as RAM on Xperia U is enormous issue. And that's the last thing - a lot of free RAM.
Help appreciated!
for me stock is 54, indian, or nother countryes, then you can modyfy it with zip files or etc
best rom threads arent allowed no matter they use stock as base or cm 9
for me i feel xperiance litev3 is good.... u can also try on by jatinrungta.... zexperience is the name is guess... .
best is to try them friend and find out urself
As stated, please just test and do your homework.

Hi Guys, I really hope this is the correct place to create this thread..!
I have been moving across various threads from different devs Eg- Neat Rom, Sotmax Stock Rom, Pardus Etc which are now being dominated by custom roms based on leaked 4.2.2 ME7.
The biggest issue i have come across is the OVERHEATING menace in the leaked firmware...
So instead of spamming the rom threads and creating more confusion let us post discuss fight and solve this heating issue here..!
Aim of the thread is mainly to see which rom heats or which doesn ..
While posting in the thread please follow these simple guidelines..
Name the rom You're using..
Did you do a full wipe or not
Does you're s3 overheat or not.
If it did overheat What steps did you take to cool it down?? Did those help??
Lets try and share individual feedbacks and see if we can help each other..!
PS- If this thread needs to be moved to the general section the mods can do there job
Lets get Rolling now..
NeatRom v5.2
full wipe
overheating simple no
Same here..!
Neat Rom by EPIC Sale..!!!
No overheating at all..!! No lags..! Normal-Medium usage 4hrs+ screen on and calling gaming a bit music also..!
Something heavily modified 4.2.2
Other custom roms 4.2.2 tested .
Full wipe always .
Does not overheat .
Does not lag .
jje
pardus rom.
becomes very hot from time to time. (during charging, gaming, browsing...)
did everything to cool down. but nothing helped. just got accustomed to it!

Upgrade your CWM to 5.0.2.7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
ICS-JB available with 3.1.10 kernel gives stability, but has the usual bugs that have been reported and seen (see individual threads for more specific ROM related issues/bugs)
KK available via bigpart ROM (pay attention to install directions and update CWM to 6.0.3.8 first)
At the end of the day, its up to you what version of android you wish to flash
Hello,
Its very difficult for you to get any answers to this question. The beauty of android is that it can customised in multiple different ways to give the user a different experience.
The only way you will find which ROM is best for you is to try them and see...
Hence

Hello guys!
You have probably had a lot of similar questions regarding this topic, but I can't find any clear answer myself.
I have watched a lot of videos about CyanogenMod, Carbon ROM, ArchiRom (can't remember the exact name) and even a ROM called "Energy HD".
It's great that there are so many possibilities regarding ROMs, but it also tends to confuse me quite a bit - I personally do like a clean ROM, just with the basic Apps installed (Internet Browser e.g.), I also would like to have a nice battery performance and, thirdly, the possibility to chose which Apps I would like to install.
I hope you guys get what I'm trying to say.
Thanks in advance.
Kind regards,
Crash1k
There is no such thing as a best rom as this is subjective. The only way for you is to read and try the roms that seems the most appropriate in regards to your wishes.

Thank you for your help.
I have installed the latest ArchiDroid ROM. Everything works fine there, besides two things: I have random shutdowns and GravityBox doesn't seem to work, since there is already another Launcher installed (Google Now). I haven't found a way to fix that yet. Can anyone help?
Greetings,
Crash1k
-for me best rom for galaxy s3 is Archidroid v3.0.2 because it include a lot of optimizations , you can try it with boeffla kernel (CM11)
-Rom who include a lot of options ported from another roms is Temasek ( it include a lot of things like gesture lockscreen ...) , try it with boeffla kernel
-if you want maximum battery life, turn to touchwizz rom based on 4.3( Omegar rom or Android revolution) or 4.4.4 ( Blekota Note 4 or blekota s5)
I guess I will move away from ArchiDroid, since it randomly reboots several times a day, and there doesn't seem to be any support. Well, at least I tried it.
if you want a good battery life i suggest to you Liquidsmooth 3.2: it has a lot of configuration and a good battery life by the battery life mode that at off-screen change to off wifi, data, sync, kill all the applications... if you want another i say Resurrection remix 5.1.5. based on 4.4.2. Very stable and daily usable. A nice kernel for both the roms is boeffla.
