[Q] Xposed Mods to avoid with MJ7? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I am running rooted MJ7 and would love to add xposed framework mods, however I'm a little gunshy since I do not have a good custom recovery option yet. Those of you who are running xposed framework have you run into any mods that definitely do not work / bootloop? I have run across a couple searching (one post mentioned circle battery), but I'm sure there are others. Thanks.

I am currently running rooted MJ7 with Xposed and Wanamaker. So far I have had zero issues. For the record, I'm using the circle battery.

Would anyone be interested in transparent status bars?

The statusbar will be transparent on the home screen (like the S4) when you click into an app itll go back to black. This will be a project that takes a lot of time because I will have to do this for every rom individually and then keep updating it as they do. I dont want to start this project if no one cares for it.
Yes or no? Vote in the poll.
Also, can you guys list roms that dont get updated back to back?
Roms like Jelly Beans is perfect because he isnt always pushing updates, roms like that will be ideal.
Great idea, would you do one for the stock OTA beanstown compiled? Deodexed. Itll never see an update lol

That would be great, Scott's ROMs for the most part don't get updated as often.
Would you be able to include the white colored icons in the status bar like the S4, or are you only focusing on the transparent status bar?

I didnt realize that. Sorry guys, Im going to have to pass on this project because Xposed does allow you do to this + way more options.
First download xposed framework: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1763596&d=1361912261
Its an APK, just install it then open up the app and hit the "install/update" button. After this restart the phone and download Xposed Tweak Box located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1757849&d=1361739667
Install that apk as well. Now go back to the xposed installer (its the first app you installed) and click where it says, "modules." Select Tweak Box now go back to the Tweak Box app and customize away. It gives you options for any status bar color, transparency and much more.
Give these folks a thanks, here is the link to Xposed Framework and Tweak Box below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629653
Edit: Some roms already come with this, some dont and Xposed Framework is universal.

I was under the impression you'd be doing it like on the S4. Although xposed will allow a transparent statusbar, when you enter an app it stays that way.
In your mod you talked about having it go black once you enter an app which xposed will NOT do.
For whatever reason I'm not able to get the Xposed tweakbox to make the status bar transparent. I'm running beans build 14. The slider is to the right making it transparent. I've tried to make other changes, but no luck. Any suggestions?

Yeah. After you make it transparent and reboot, pull down the notification bar, it should be transparent after you move it back to the top. There is a post on beans thread with more in depth instructions .....

You can already do this on Tweaked via TSM Parts.

Very cool tweaking app

I had no idea such customization could be done with a single app without a custom rom.
i disable several icons, moved my clock to the cetner, removed am/pm, made my notification panel transparent, and several other tweaks, and there doesn't seem to be any affect on battery or performance that i can tell.
here is the original thread
it is for the AT&T S4 but most things work for our verizon S4.
**Must be rooted**
To use
1. install the exposed framework
2. open up the Xposed installer and hit "Install/update"
3. install the app found here (i'm on version 3)
4. open up the exposed installer, go to the modules tab, and put a check mark in the "nottach Xposed [3.0]
5. Open the Nottach Xposed program and make your changes, then use that app to reboot. It doesn't seem to ask for root permission until you use it to reboot.
Update: I'm now on v4 but many of the newer tweaks don't work for my stock odexed rom, but if you deodexed many additional tweaks work including the circle battery.
Update2: I'm now on v5 still stock odexed and circle battery now works!! I will be installing MyComputerDoctors deodexed rom so i can get rid of GPS Recticle with this, then ascetically i'm not sure i really need much more...
Update3: I'm not on Scott's CleanROM Lite 1.1 Odexed and NottachXposed v7. Everything that i use still works. I've added a few more caps to show the possibilities. (give Scott some thanks for his ROM, with his rom and this app, i really don't know what more i need)
Update4: 1 user reported that NottachXposed v8 did not work for them. I'm on CleanROM Lite 1.2 DeOdexed and v8 works just fine and no issues upgrading. I also see that Nottach has removed the older versions, if this is a problem for anyone then let me know and i'll get you a previous version.
Update5: I'm still on CleanROM Lite 1.2 DeOdexed. Installed Nottach Xposed v10 and everything is still great. If something doesn't work then try updating Xposed Installer (not the program itself, but the framework it installs)
please note that i'm not a developer. I just know it works. Also, don't waist any thanks on me, please give them to the 2 developers that i've linked above (Nottach, rovo89) thank them as many times as you can, and then maybe a few to mbh87 as they are the first to point it out that it works for us on the Verizon S4.

I use Icon Changer free from the play store and I'm good. Using Beans 18 w/ faux. Uninstall xposed and try that. Reboot first.

Yeah, I can use that, but the xposed icon themer themes the icon in the drawer as well. I was just seeing if I had tweaked somerhing that caused it as I really likexthat xposed apk.. Thanks for offering up something though.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
Xposed was new to me coming from a gnex. As soon as I started fooling around checking it out, I stopped getting emails. Two days later after pulling 68% of my hair out and trying everything...even nandroiding back to a few I have saved....I removed all xposed tweaks and emails started again. Dont know what I did....but that should also tell me to read before I start pushing buttons....
Beans 18 + XTheme engine = doesn't jive
So I was getting ready to post a thread about problems with Xposed and Beans 18. What keeps happening is that when I install the xtheme engine, then apply a theme and reboot, my phone gets stuck at the JB animation screen. Soft reboot just freezes my phone with a blacked out screen but softkeys are lit. So I keep having to wipe and restore my backup.
Oddly when I used the icon changer thru Xposed, I didn't have a single bit of trouble except for some lag for the first few minutes that I was up and running. I did find that it worked best for me to install one module at a time, reboot, then install the next. Installing 2 or more gave the same result as I described above.
This is really frustrating for me. Beans is my favorite ROM and the one I keep coming back to (till I can truly understand AOSP/AOKP based ROMs and use them to their fullest. When I discovered the XTheme engine, I was even more excited that I could have more options but stay with 4.1.2. Alas, it is not meant to be I guess. Maybe I will try using another TW based ROM and install the XTheme engine. If it works on another ROM, then it sounds like Beans and the XTheme engine don't get along.
I will post here with my results of flashing another TW ROM and running the XTheme engine.

I am running beans 18 with saber kernel at the moment. All modules I have installed EXCEPT the Xtheme engine (beta 5) work without an issue. The xtheme engine will soft brick your phone.

IDK why I haven't messed with Xposed sooner! This stuff is awesome. Wanam has a lot of cool customizations. However, some of them I can't get to work such as changing the color of status bar icons besides the battery.
Are there any other Xposed modules that will work with our phone?

Man I LOVE xPrivacy!!! Loved it so much bought the paid version; only way to play certain games with SU activated on your device. I am running a red notification theme I have made tinkering around with Wanam. Android is so addictive.
I have this weird issue that I think *MAY* be tied to the Xposed framework.
When I try to uninstall an app, phone freezes and reboots [it does uninstall the app]. If I wipe cache / davlvik and flash the rom over it [xposed framework not installed] I can uninstall apps without a problem, as soon as I install Xposed and reboot the issue comes back. It has to be Xposed or one of the modules I have active ? [Greenify, Xprivacy, Wanam]

Yeah, make sure you install the xposed framework (and update/install within framework settings once the apk is loaded) and activate the xposed module from the wanam installer (under module settings). Once inside Wanam, their is an on/off toggle in the top right hand corner of any theme color you wish to change (and make sure to hit apply when you decide on a color).
The rest is pretty straightforward, rebooting is quick. I'm rooted on MI5 update with the stock odexed ROM, using the native hotspot from team venom.

Root Sprint Galaxy Note 3 (NC5)

So I have a Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Baseband version ends in NC5. I would really like to root my phone but everywhere I look I get a ton of conflicting information. I found Kingo root but some people said not to do it. I have Oden but does that just take care of rooting then I can install what I want from there?
Anyone that can give me instructions on what I need to do to root my Note 3 that would be great. I would prefer not to ruin my warranty or hit Knox.
If someone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome!
Thanks

Check any number of threads on Towel root, which will likely work on your device, depending on its date of manufacture. You should be able to find it in the general forum.
This thread will soon be in the Q&A section where it belongs, as soon as it's moved.

Installing towel root should work.
Once that's done, install the latest Xposed framework (2.6.1), and Wanam, to get started.
Your options are really superb if all you wish to do is tinker with Xposed. Hop on over to the Xposed section of xda and have a blast. You really can have an excellent device with only root, an ad free app, and Xposed.
Good luck, and if interested in what modules are good, feel free to come back here and ask after you've had your fill of Wanam.

Good luck, and if interested in what modules are good, feel free to come back here and ask after you've had your fill of Wanam.

Awesome I just started playing with Wanam and its pretty cool. I was in the Sprint store the other day playing with the LG G3 and loved the color scheme on the G3 and was thinking of looking for a theme like that but want to change the backgrounds on all my menus like in settings and such to something lighter than the plain old black theme that came with note 3. Ive used some apps before my phone was rooted to theme but now I know I can do much more so any advice or pointers on what modules to use/get would be great!

First go to this Xposed module thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327541
[INDEX][XPOSED] XPOSED Modules Collection | Post Modules' Request Here!
Then look for a few, including...
XuiMod, XHaloFloatingWindow, Tinted Status Bar, S5 System UI Theme, CPU Temp in Status Bar, amongst others.
The trick is to avoid mods that interfere with others.
Most of the aforementioned won't conflict with others.
Take it slowly, and experiment.
Good luck!
