I just discovered a way to take screen shots from any screen by holding down
the Power button and quickly tap the Home button.
Discovered by accident while trying to turn off my phone.
Enjoy.

seeing it is his first post EVER, I'm actually quite proud of this person...he actually did a "what's called a search" or probably "read" somewhere on google and instead of asking questions he actually tried to help people out...despite the fact that most android users know this...this might be help to someone just like him who is new to xda or android...heck if I asked my dad if he knew how to do it, he wouldn't know...we have to realize that out of all the people who own android devices only a small fraction of people actually take advantage of what android has to offer and how to use use their devices (and not only cell phones) the right way...I am constantly bombarded from friends and family to go fix their computer, TV. cable box. phones. People just don't understand things
...I commend him for his work actually and this is the type of person we need to have in the forum!!

Actually, he did not search at all from my understanding. I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm just saying. From his OP, he states that he accidently found out how to take screen shots with the stock, none rooted rom when trying to turn off his device. Right away he posted the method up and I can bet without any search if that was a known feature for the amaze.
I'm pretty sure if you search Google, it will let you know thats a known stock feature for the amaze. But I guess you can give him credit for trying to help.
And actually, here it is. First result when I searched google
http://androidspin.com/2011/12/29/take-screenshots-htc-amaze-4g-no-root-necessary/
But now I'm just just busting the ops balls.
Thanks for the info.. but the guys are right. I gave you a thanks because you are trying.

Yuck! I've always considered myself to be a Google whiz, but apparently not. So what you're saying is if the OP would have typed this into Google, the thread wouldn't be needed? You seem to be typing out of both sides of your fingers. Not to mention, if the OP is new, I wonder what seperates him from other new noobs I see ripped for the same thing.
If my first post was "how to root amaze 4g" I'm sure it would be frowned upon for posting common knowledge that we could have searched and found the same info on.
So inconsistent...

No I'm not hating at all, I was actually commending the OP, just like I mentioned previously. I was merely pointing out the fact that with a little google search things can be found very easily...this is in no way against what the op did, trying to share what he thought was usefull information for many, and probably is for many who are new to android!!

I got this idea while lurking on the rezound general forum, and a lot of people have really pissed off the amazing devs that offered their help to bring out the most out of the phone. Yeah, it might be a little late to be making this, but with the Eris being my first phone, the community here has pretty well taken care of each other and the developers stuck with us, at least, until they got a newer phone and moved on. My experience in the rezound forum has been a little less than savory, especially in the last few weeks. All of the trolls and wannabe heroes that tell the trolls off have made me remember and miss the good old days here. It's been too damn long, and these devs deserve a thread where we kiss their asses (no sarcasm) To all the devs that ever worked on the Eris, thank you for all of your hard work.

Thanks as well. This forum introduced me to the whole rooting experience and allowed me to keep using this phone long past what I would have put up with if I had to remain stock.
A a developer I know the troubles with any project and appreciate all the efforts.
Unfortunately I dropped the phone the last week and screen died, so I had to do a quick upgrade. Though about he Rezound but ended up with the LG Spectrum. Nice screen, rooted, but not much in the way of ROM's. Have to wait until ICS comes out.
Again thanks folks.
****ing right. It was a little more then a tear ago I stumbled upon this place and took took the plunge to root my Droid Eris, knowing that I was running 2.1 and would never see anything higher then that cuz the Eris was already at end of life. Then boom rooted unlocked and running gin-tazz. I've been hooked ever sense. Now mongoose is still putting work into this device running 4.0 haha amazing. Thank you all very much

There's so many things he's done for the Eris community, both here and over at AndroidForums, it would be a crime to not have his member name listed for posterity along with all of the other fine folks you listed above.
He is, without question, one of the most knowledgeable folks to have ever posted here at XDA and many, many folks are indebted to him for his help (me included ).
Cheers!

Getting a stock Amaze today.
Background: I've rooted, S-off'd, and ROM'd *other* HTC phones before and used ARHD on the Sensation.
I'm looking for root, stability, and good battery life. I don't care much about minor performance tweaks.
Is hasoon2000's all in one tool the best way to root today?
Are any of the rom's a big improvement over stock with no serious side effects?
I know there are FAQs and Wiki's, but I've also been around XDA long enough to ask before diving in to a new phone before I use possibly outdated guides.
Thanks in advance.
You've been around long enough... then I'm sure u can read the dev threads and judge for yourself. Recommendations are for the indecisive

I swear, if people spent half the time answering questions as they did explaining why they're not answering questions they don't even know the answer to on XDA...
Anyhow, the all-in-one tool seems to have done the trick (perm root/recovery).
I'll report back when I try a ROM.

Stop being lazy and whining. Try the couple/few (not like there's a ton) that are out there and make up your own mind.
Asking whig Rom is better is insulting to devs that may not get mentioned. Read OPs and threads and see if Any known issues are there.
But u have been around a while... I'm sure u know that
Edit.. looks like u run arhd on your sensation... That MAY be a good start don't u think?

You guys know that it is a running joke everywhere else on the internet how unhelpful people on these forums can be.
This is a Q&A forum. I ask a Q, you might give an A. Here's how to figure it if you should respond:
If know the answer to the question and you have the time/patience to give a helpful answer, go for it. If no, move along.
Instead you've wasted everyone's time and clouded the thread by arguing about the value of the question. At 88 views, at least some people are interested in an answer.
I'm sure you know a lot about this phone and have helped many people, but I don't care if you invented sliced bread if you don't know the answer to my question or have the time to answer it.
If you need help interacting with other people in a forum when you do know the answer to the question, I've provided the template below. You might "sticky" it.
_____________
Hello,
Welcome to our forum. The [wiki/guide] (insert link, maybe if you're feeling super helpful, certainly not required) [is/is not] up to date and is a good resource for [rooting/recovery setup/etc]. I have tried [x,y,z] roms and I find [x] is best for battery life, but [important feature] is not working for [me/other people].
_____________
Again, if you don't know this information or don't have the time/patience to give a helpful answer, you needn't respond.
Your time and efforts are valuable. Don't waste them.
Only if u would put the effort into reading and experimenting as you did your short essay above, this thread wouldn't be needed.
Good luck on your quest

So you're saying that all the people we helped, all the work we do and all the praise saying this is the nicest community many have ever been apart of in the introduction thread was a lie? Your laziness and lack of understanding is not our fault, we help as much as we can, but some things are truly pushing it. This place is for development, not a play ground for those unwilling to even help themselves.

There's loads of threads of roms with hundreds, possible thousands of post on user input about how the roms run, advantages and disadvantages, no two users would like the same rom, I preferred stock lightly modified by me while gg like quick Droid and Ziggy liked speed rom, do you think I can recommend a rom to them or its a better idea for them to try them out for themselves? I'd recommend stock but he obviously doesn't like stock or he wouldn't be looking for a custom rom, then what? I tell him speed rom is nice because someone said so but I have no clue myself? Like really, grow up, this is no place for childish questions and responses, there was no need for things to get all hostile here, your best option would be to try thing's on your own, if you can't make your own decisions from your own personal liking and experience, then you sir will settle for second best because of your attitude towards it
For the record, what others think about the support on this site, really doesn't matter, this place is for development, not support. We offer help when we can because as a human trait, people do stupid things or just can't keep their cool long enough to sort out an issue. Therefore count it a privilege many take the time out of their day and work to write the multiple guides here and the devs for releasing their work.

Didn't have to try...
On another note... Asking which Rom is better is a flame war waiting to happen and is offensive to the devs whose roms aren't mentioned. And since user experience and needs vary, you will never get a helpful answer. Mix that with all the fanboys in the amaze forum and u get a mess.. how do I know? Cuz there is already multiple threads asking which Rom is better than which.. I READ.
The correct answer is to quit being lazy, read, and try for yourself. Stop getting so butt hurt. I'm not talking about ur mother, just your internet bestie
Get over it.
Why is this thread still even going?

What to expect:
I have videos coming out every week and this will make it easier for those of you who can't seem to find a ROM that you like or perhaps want to know what ROM features are in them. You will be able to see those features and decide for yourself which ROM FITS YOU BEST!!! I will be showing quadrants from some ROMs as well as other SCORES like linpack, nenamark and other benchmarks. Just let me know what you would like to see. I do many different types of phones and ROMS so anything you want to see or know let me know.
I also have a NOOB TUTORIAL coming out that will explain how to ROOT and add ROMS to your phone STEP BY STEP EASY INSTRUCTIONS!

Tutorials are sorely lacking around here. I'm fairly technically savvy, much moreso than the average person. But even for me it's pretty daunting for somebody that's relatively new to rooting and flashing ROMs to actually follow through with it. Most of the step by step guides require a masters in Android before you can even understand them. Between kernels, radios, AOSP/AOKP, CWM/TWRP, nandroid, dalvik, Odin, GAPPS, format/wipe, different kinds of backups... it's pretty crazy. I know it sounds so simple to people who are familiar with it, but trust me, to many people it's not. Especially with a device that costs so much money and you have to make sure everything is compatible with one another. The developers in here do a great job of creating a ton of this stuff to use but it doesn't seem like the most welcoming place for beginners or "n00bs". Seems most questions or problems are treated by saying "you didn't read enough" or "you screwed up" which isn't very helpful. Part of the problem is that guides and tutorials become obsolete and out of date so quickly, yet people don't want to give new advice because something similar is covered in a 6+ month old tutorial.
So long story short... any new tutorials are welcome! I'm considering rooting and putting liquid JB on my Note but feel like it's safer to just wait for the stock upgrade at this point. I "upgraded" my old HTC Magic back in the Cupcake/Donut days to a CM build with new radios/kernels/SPLs or something, and could never un-do it and ended up making the phone useless.
Another excellent thread ....
With your permission I'll gladly add this into the super thread.
It is tireless work like this, that sets the note section apart as the Premier place to be.
I have every intention of using the note 1 for several years to come for the very reason I stated above.
The members and contributors are beyond compare ...
Many thanks ....g

Follow the instructions there. Be sure to run the .bat file as administrator, else it will install but not run correctly.
Would you please search before creating a new thread for every question that pops into your head?

Didn't see clear instructions on the N4 threads. You can always NOT read my post? Or continue to piss yourself off? Becuase my post have nothing to do with you or your life. Like at all. Take the chip of your shoulder and stop being a negtive force in all my post. Good Day Sir

So the thread titled: "How to use LGNPST on Windows 8" was no help at all? It didn't even require that you use the search feature.
Also, please post questions in Q and A.

Probably the most drama i've ever been trough over a phone. Guess people take this too seriously. A new phone comes out every 5-6 months i doubt half of you will even have this phone for more than a year, and to be responding the way you are is just WOW. All this for a phone you wont remember in 2 years. Again you're free not to read my post. Clearly im new to this "XDA" thing and know the bare minimum (root, cwm, cm10), hence the questions. Roms and roots were easy for my SGH Skyrocket, but is wayy more difficult for the LGOG for a newbie. Im learning though. Thanks to all of the chill people who helped in an appropriate manner. To all those who made having this phone living hell thank you too for making it clear that some people need a hug. Everyday. All day.
-Again thanks for all the helpful insights. I couldn't thank you enough

What you don't seem to understand is that no one minds questions, but asking a question, when there's a whole thread dedicated to the question (a thread that shows up 2-3 items down the forum thread list, from your) is absurd and does nothing but clutter these pages. Doing so makes people think that you are either too lazy to search for an answer or believe that your time is more important than ours, so we're supposed to provide the link for you or write the answer again. Why would you expect people to do either of those things?

We get that you're new to XDA. But given your age and generation, you should at least be somewhat familiar with technology (the fact that you are flashing ROMs and even on this website in the first place is proof of that) so we expect you to have a minimal understanding of forum etiquette. Like the guy above me said, the link to "How to use LGNPST on Windows 8" was just 2 threads away from the top when I posted the link to it in my reply.
Put yourself in our position. If EVERYONE decided to make a new thread every time they had a question that was answered 100s of times already instead of using the search feature or checking the stickies, just imagine how cluttered and unreadable this forum would be. We would be spending more time sifting through threads to find somewhat relevant ones. So basically you can see why we get a little uppity for threads like this.
Anyway, best of luck to you. Good job getting this phone. You're gonna love it! :good:
Since you're new you should have read the forum rules and watched the nice video XDA created that covers the basic forum etiquette like searching and not creating threads covering topics that have already been covered.
I think you need to go watch that video again, and stop breaking the rules. You're not making much of an impression with the members here so far, from what I can tell. To me you're coming across as both an asshat and not terribly bright. What you do from here on out is up to you, but I'd suggest a change in attitude would be a good start. Getting defensive and butthurt doesn't help your cause.
Start taking what we're saying as constructive criticism intended to help you conform to how things work here (even if it is delivered harshly). You'll find a lot of your questions have already been answered, and if not, people are willing to help if you ask the right questions the right way.
