Not sure what wrong with my Prime,
1.
It has been dropping strong wifi sites on a regular basis for a long time. It will connect ok but if I let it go to sleep or change apps it will usually drop the connection. Have set power settings not to drop wifi, but that makes no change. No idea what is the problem.
2.
When using the built in library app and changing pages in epub book the screen will sometimes go black and wont come back on for a minute or 2. Sometimes it happens when rotating the screen. No idea?
It is rooted but using the OTA standard ROM.

when i start to download any file which is big ,after the screen goes black after 1 minute the WiFi also stops working i have to start the machine again and the WiFi starts to work again
it means that i wont be getting any notifications while the screen is off as the WiFi is off .not nice
any way of getting around it
thanks
Download "Advanced Wifi Lock (Free)" from the store and set it so WiFi doesn't go off. It's somewhat of a battery killer but it's better than the alternative.
The wifi is a big flaw in the Tablet S that wasn't fixed in ICS.

Try this: before downloading the file, go into advanced Wi-Fi settings and set the Wi-Fi disconnect policy to "Never" or if you have your tablet connected to its charger, "Never when plugged in". After the file has been downloaded, set the disconnect policy back to what you normally have it set to.
This is the WLan Bug. Sony cant get it better with ICS and to change the Wlan Settings does not bring the result.
So take your Screentime to max about 5min. and tap every 2 or 3 minutes the screen. Revert this Settings after download is complete.

I've only ever had this problem once, and I could fix it by just going to Settings>WiFi Settings>Advanced>Disconnection Policy and said "Never". That would be my suggestion since (as mentioned) third-party WiFi lock's chew through battery like theres no tomorrow...
Good ideas. I also use an app that does not let the screen sleep when the power cord is plugged in.

I like keeping my wifi on while my screen is asleep so that I can receive chat messages or e-mails without being at my computer. I never had this problem while running ICS on an unrooted TF201, but ever since I installed the upgrade to JB my wifi will always disconnect after the screen has been asleep for a few minutes. I've checked every setting I can think of. In the Wifi Advanced menu, I have it set so Wifi is always on, and in the ASUS customized setting I have Disconnect network during sleep to off. Under Power Saver I have Enable low battery settings off, set Low battery level to 0%, and even set Wifi OFF to off. Despite all of this, it seems like the tablet under JB goes into some sort of deep sleep and disconnects the wifi after about 5 minutes of inactivity.
I have noticed that this problem does not occur when the screen is on. I also have the dock, and set the screen to always on during meetings in the event that I don't need to enter any notes for a few minutes so I don't have to fool with any delays from screen wake .
Is there some setting I'm missing? Is it a hidden setting that I could access by rooting? Or am I dealing with something internal to the build that I can't change at all? This may not seem like a huge deal to most, but it has become one of my main uses for the tablet when I'm at home. I'm very disappointed with JB so far even though the wifi does feel more responsive on the Prime after the update (when it's not sleeping, of course!).
EDIT: I noticed this evening that the wifi turns off even when I'm running something that uses it while the screen is off. I was listening to Pandora, and about 5 minutes after the screen went off, my music stopped. When I turned the screen back on, I saw that the wifi had indeed become disconnected.
hey,
I have exactly the same problem with my tablet. I have checked every option, I did a factory reset several time, I have checked it on 2 different routers but it is still disconnecting the wife when it goes in the sleep modus. Did you or anyone else find a solution?
Often when waking the device from screen off, I get wifi data lag. As in it takes about 10-20 seconds before any apps will load any downloaded data. During this time the wifi icon shows uploading and downloading. App elements that I believe are part of the app itself (frame elements, text, icons, etc) are all on screen, but no remote content (which is why I believe it's data lag, as the phone itself is loading apps and such just fine). After that, data downloads just as snappy as it should. I can turn the screen off and back on with no lag. Then if the phone sits idle for a while, it often happens again. Or sometimes does not. Same thing with rebooting. Lag is there sometimes, sometimes it is not. And I know it's not my wifi, because I already tested other devices that download data just fine while my phone is still waiting for data.
Anyone else have this issue?
Do you have queue background data turned on in power management settings? Or maybe you have turned off keep WiFi on during sleep in WiFi advanced settings.

@rappa619 nailed it.
Sounds like wifi queue is enabled in your power settings.
I have queue disabled, wifi optimization disabled, and keep wifi on during sleep. None of that helped.
Not positive, but it may have been my internet (even though two laptops and three ipads in the house were not having this issue). Internet went out completely a few days ago, and since resetting it, the lag seems to be gone.
I decided to save a good amount of my battery by limiting the usage of wifi network connection only to the time I use my phone
so I downloaded and installed 3rd party app which allows me to control when it switches on/off and here's what I did.
connect to wifi when the screen is on
disconnect to wifi when the screen is off
it is this simple. and I expected it to function just as It should be
everything worked just fine.. or not.
I had to wait for like 5 seconds before it started to finish the wifi connection after I screened it on, which is not a good thing.
the purpose of setting all this is because I want to keep my wifi off when I dont actually use it like when surfing the web or watch streaming videos but at the same time I wanna sometimes turn the screen on and right back off only to momentarily turn the wifi on to get my notifications like emails or whatsapp messages which I will miss otherwise
so how can this be done? I want to press power button twice like double clicking mouse to get brief wifi connection so it performs the synchronization each time I do the job. if that turns the wifi off too fast so doesnt provide enough time for the wifi connection. then I can simply set the time wifi disconnected to 10 secs after I turn it off
so the main problem is how to make it turned on when the screen is on. almost simultaneously so I dont need to keep the screen on for a couple of seconds.
I eagerly need this function because I want to put my phone in the pocket and time to time double tap on the power button which Is very convenient to not miss all the notifications.
it doesnt matter when I seriously use the phone as I said ealrier, waiting for a few seconds doesn't hurt in that case.
thank you
p.s) I tested this to several phones and only 1 which I have doesnt let it. any solution?
apps, settings, rooting, custom roms, tasker, anything will do, except for buy new phone
I leave my phone near me and not charging while I'm asleep. In the morning after sitting all night I pick it up and try to poke some buttons on a web page that controls the lights in my room. This never seems to work until I've been trying for a while, as though the network isn't talking any longer and it has to wake up, but I found the advanced wifi settings, and they say leave wifi active even when phone is asleep. I've tried doing a refresh to make sure it is talking to the web server and have seen it give an error that the web page isn't accessible, then immediately redraw the screen with the proper contents (like, "oops! it is accessible after all, forget I mentioned that").
Never saw this with my old nexus 5, or even the cheap amazon tablet I sometimes use. Only the new technologically advanced s9+ has this problem .
Is there some other sleep mode setting I need to find besides the one under wifi advanced settings?
