I am currently using a Droid incredible on Straight Talk and used the BYOP program to do so. And today, just for sh#ts and giggles I ran my xt912's MEID through their compatibility checker. and it claims that it will work. Now from what I've read online and on XDA I've come to the conclusion that it is not a possibility. I'm just wondering if possibly they (Straight Talk) have made it possible or this an error. Any insight is appreciated thanks.
Try it out!

My mom has straight talk , i have an xt912. currently active with verizon . how can i try it out if it works with her sim ?
The xt912 will not work with her sim from the straight talk sim program that would be T-Mobile of AT&T this phone will not work with them because of the lock on our phones. To use straight talk on this phone u need St byop cdma program which does not give you a sim just uses the old 3g phones and u may have to do some cdma workshop changes like you have to do for page plus, hope this helps

was wondering if this could be possible cause i was reading the forums and found someone that did it by flashing the ap to the verizon razr if you could help me out that would be great thanks
It's not possible. Verizon uses CDMA, EVDO and LTE. AT&T uses GSM and UMTS. Completely different technologies. However, if you can get an XT910, a GSM version of the RAZR, you can use it on AT&T (this is what I have).

im actually looking into this because my cousin has just left Verizon for att and it is possible they use sim cards and people have reported it working im not sure on many details of it yet but its out there just google "verizon droid razr on at&t"
look here http://blog.laptopmag.com/ics-world-phone-capabilities-come-to-verizons-droid-razr-and-razr-maxx
You cannot do that after the ICS update. With ICS, you can roam onto global GSM networks but many people have reported that you cannot change the default network from Verizon.
From everything I've heard the xt912 has the appropriate radios to connect with at&t cell towers but the usage of this feature is being blocked by vzw. Now I don't know if a custom rom like cm9 would allow for this or not.

I believe the open is talking about using an at&t sim card on an at&t plan, not just roaming on their bandwidth

There are people working on it but it's not yet possible.
RAZR on AT&T network
Yes it is possible. I did it. The only thing is that I only use the phone for calls and texts and WiFi for data. In the bionic forum, they tell you to download Radiocomm. I did not do that. AlI did was just change the setting to gsm/utms network and placed the AT&T sim card and waited for 15-30 minutes for the phone to connect
Btw, I'm on ics.
Well,I tried to attach pic but admin won't let me

***UPDATE 6/26/2012***
Ok, not all the info that I got before was 100% correct. It looks like RAZR / MAXX is unlocked only for Global(GSM) use which is outside of USA. The Tmobile and ATT sims are not fully working as of right now.
We have couple amazing Devs which are working to resolve this issue.
Please PM me if you want me to update the OP.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the Bionic forum people found a way to activate disabled feature of couple 4g verizon phones to be able to use it on GSM networks.
Can someone test it please?

Amazing...no one here has any interest in this? maybe you should have posted in the development section. This is great news if it gets working on the razr.
I posted this earlier...as far as I know it's still a work in progress but very cool nonetheless.

Welp the Bionic can't do it for sure. Doesn't have a GSM radio... at all.

Running ICS leak fully rooted!
Actually the Bionic does have a GSM radio.
The Razr, 4, Bionic all have the same Qualcomm global radio and a separate LTE radio.
The only thing preventing the Razr, Droid 4 or Bionic from connecting to GSM is the firmware.
The Droid 4 is scheduled for GSM upgrade.

I stand corrected. Well played.

I was under the impression that we just needed the unlock code. Once we have it from say...att, then we put the sim in,enter the code and good to go...maybe its not that easy but on YouTube it looks pretty close lol.
As far as I know it's not that easy due to the fact that the GSM modem itself is disabled. Unless your talking about roaming onto the LTE network. Though ATT uses different frequencies.

I was really surprised that people did not accept this news well. I was extremely happy to hear that we can use our phones with GSM providers since I am planing to travel soon.

Actually if you have read the whole thread in the OP link. People are successfully using their phones in Brazil.

Yeah. No thought about lte if I had to use GSM. I feel dumb as that's the entire point of the maxx being called a global phone lol. There's a video and it is really easy to do.
i just did it and is working perfect

I think people will highly appreciate if you provide more detailed information, because there should be some differences in this hack between RAZR and Bionic.

Thank you I will follow it later on.
this could get interesting
Okay so, here's my predicament..I'm currently using an Atrix 2 with a regular sized SIM card and wanted to test this out on a busted VZW Razr I got from work (there's a huge crack in the screen and it was just collecting dust). If I went into an AT&T store and bought a micro-SIM, would it work?
The only reason I'm confused is because all I know that AT&T uses the micro-SIMs for is the iPad; I don't know if the structure of the SIM card changes to accomodate just data, or if voice will be able to be transmitted as well.
So I have been searching for weeks online about the razr xt912 possibly being ran on straight talk..is this possible? and if so how? i purchased a sim card from straight talk and tried it but nothing worked. said sim was not compatible or something to that effect. please help
At this time Motorola droid razr & razr maxx XT 912 cannot be used with any of the GSM based carriers in united states. I.e. at&t t-mobile straight talk etc...
Will work with other non-us service provides.

My contract on Verizon isn't up until December but am seriously considering switching to straight talk. Here are my questions.
Is anyone using it and if you are what phone/s are you using on it?
Can I use any GSM phone with it by just switching sim cards?
My wife loves her iPhone 4 so can I just get her an at&t GSM iPhone and switch it to work on straight talk?
I'm already sold on switching, but if she can't have an iPhone on straight talk, she doesn't want to switch to it.

im on page plus but i heard straight talk is good, if you want to use any gsm phone it must be unlocked, or if its at&t you must get an at&t based sim card, and vice versa with t-mobile, but yes you can buy her an at&t iphone and use it with a straight talk sim. (at&t based)
So I currently have a Droid X2. I purchased a micro-sim from the straight talk web site and a Nexus 4 from Google. The phone is hands down the best thing I've ever had and the straight talk service seems to be fine for me. It's saved me a number of times because I could hotspot without having to pay extra like on my X2 stock rom. I'm in the process of trying to install CM10 on the X2 but am having some struggles there.
I can't make the switch fast enough as my contract isn't up until July and it's not cost effective to do so sooner.

If you flash to straight talk some apps might become unusable but this is the forum -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210240&highlight=+straight+talk+

is there any way to run the razr on an att network like straighttalk?

Which Razr do you have? I have the Verizon razr maxx and am using it on page plus. There are directions on how to flash it, or you can check on ebay. There are people who will do it remotely for you. If you have a gsm version, you can use it with straight talk, just change the apn settings.
