Sup my XDA'erzz... Hey so real quick is anyone experiencing issues with Android File Transfer and a Mac? I'm specifically using a Macbook Pro i& quad-core with a SSD and running OS X 10.9 Mavericks... I never had these issues with my Verizon OG HTC One 32GB... But since picking up a Verizon HTC One Max 32GB Android File Transfer refuses to work and for the life of me I can't figure out why.. If I just plug it in nothing happens unless I manually launch AFT and then I receive a message that says please connect your android device with a usb cable. If I plug it in and restart the phone it picks it up but then says can not connect to device... It's extremely annoying because I'm working on some ROMs for it and I have to constantly ADB push everything....... Not that big of deal but I'd still like to be able to mount my storage where everything is visible and can add/remove as I please.... Any suggestions would be great, thanks guys!!
Try using a different cable. Sometimes its a simple solution thats overlooked.

Reinstall drivers, not a mac user so idk if you need the fastboot or adb files from sdk. But if you do, reinstall those exe files

Did you look at what the usb phone setting is on. I know there are extra ones like modem or something or other that could prevent transfer.
I am having similar issues, the mtp file transfer mode seems to borked. I can get files from phone but not send em. I've been mounting my external sd as drive then moving the files using root explorer.
Of course.. It always shows that MTP mode is enabled but does nothing when you tap it, and also shows usb is connected on the phone but when taping that it brings up only options for internet passthrough and sharing etc...

Right. Internet passthrough and others. Dont some of those stop file transfer when active.

Could be the USB 3.0 intermittent issue. Try a powered hub that is USB 2.0 as if your notebook is new enough most likely the USB ports are all 3.0.
Just saying.

When I connected my tab to the computer using usb cable, it popped up with MTP and the tab shows in the windows explorer.
But after I push the home button and quit the MTP mode, how can I bring MTP mode back without plug in/out the usb case? Is there any shortcut? Thanks.
How can I share files between tab and computer without using the usb cable?
My computer don't have bluetooth and I don't prefer wifi ad hoc p2p connect.
I feel a bit regret to buy the tab as not to have the sd card slot is really inconvenient. I cannot move the pic in the camera to the tab easily.

Get websharing app from market to copy files without using cables. Trial version lets you copy 1 file at a time. Paid version lets you copy multiple files at once.
Also, regretting about anything is just waste, search and you will find answers to all your questions in abundance, that has most and all the solutions.

You mean you are not able to see the tab in the computer after connecting it or the MTP screen is not displayed on the tab?
FYI :
After the latest update MTP screen is shown only when some file operations are going on. Not always when the it is connected to the computer as earlier.

Turn USB Debugging off. I have the Galaxy S 2 on Sprint and it has a terrible habit of turning it on by itself, which disables MTP mode. Not sure where in Honeycomb the setting is, but on my phone it is under settings - applications - development.
Uncheck that and problem solved I bet.

I bought a USB connecyion kit and use a small USB stick. I also use it for backing up data so that when I do a hard reset on my Tab I ca njust plug the USB stick in and restore all data using Titanium Backup.
So yeah, I give up trying in hope to get some decent help here.
I am not able to connect my SGS3 to any of my 2 PC's or my notebook.
I have tried everything as far as I know (on all 3 systems):
(Re)installed KIES
(Re)connected my SGS3
Rebooted the computers
Rebooted the phone
Did a factory reset
Used the SGS3 toolkit
Tried different USB slot
I even bought a new USB cable just to be sure :s
When I plug it in it starts charging and that's it.
Windows doesn't even give the confirmation sound when any random USB device is connected.
I don't see my SGS3 anywhere on my computer (not in device manager, nowhere).
I reinstalled KIES several times and installed the drivers through the SGS3 toolkit.
I own the international SGS3 with stock rom (haven't been able to update at all because of the connection issue).
I do not know what to do anymore.
Please help oh wise XDA gurus !
I would try a return to supplier and get them to prove its not hardware

Probably a broken registry on your computer try fixing it using advanced system care (it's free) afterwards try reconnecting it again. If that doesn't work try to go to samsung's support section and see what you can find to resolve your issue.
I tried it on my PC at work, same problem.
Registry issue on 4 different machines?
I think not.
Also:
I got connectivity for a moment on both my PC and notebook but it went away within seconds.
The phone gave the notification that it is connected as a mass storage device.
Then the message disappeared and it only charged and nothing else.
Playing with the cable it came back and off a few times.
Now it stays disconnected.
Seems like the connector in my phone is dead :s?
Open Terminal Emulator
type SU
then type this.....
setprop persist.sys.usb.config mass_storage adb

Check the connector on your S3. The PC's maybe fine, but something is shorting pin 2 & 3 thereby nullifying the data pins.Hence it is being detected as a charger.(Actually that is the difference between a charger connection and a PC connection).Thereis a thread on XDA about cleaning it with a toothpick. Takes a few minutes actually.
you may consider on cleaning your phone's usb port
in addition, there is an app in the market (for free) that enables/disables usb mass storage (that's how i used to fix my usb problems; i honestly dunno why)
also, if u have tried different roms (stock/kernel), it may be a hw problem.

if this is happening on multiple machines then its more likely to be the phone, did it happen after a flash phone reboot?. It happened to me on my old galaxy S2 after flashing a corrupt MIUI ROM.
Flash back to FULL stock should resolve, if not then your phone is in a state you can return it in, if you haven't had it long they may do a straight swapout.
It is the only thing that worked for me. It tells the phone to inquire about mtp/mass storage everytime it is connected

Does that mean you solved this with a flash back to Stock as I advised?, although sgs3 doesn't use mass storage, if you are on stock you wouldn't get these messages unless you had rooted and installed EASUMS. When you plug it in it should just say on your phone "connected as media device" and it will connect to your PC using MTP. All you need for MTP to work is the correct drivers, Kies install will provide these if you havent found them elsewhere.
Where are you at now then?
Hi,
Need help. I used to be able to transfer file via my windows or mac, plug in the usb cable, got the usb debug notification shows up on my phone, pull down the notification, I can choose MTP or Mass Storage.
Then one day, it just decided not to work anymore, I can no longer see those usb debug option. Everytime I plug in my USB cable. I have also tried different sort of usb cable even the original motorola usb cable, but nothing works.
Weird thing is when I plug the phone, nothing happened, then I unplug and plug it back, it will start charging, but still no usb debug options. I also cannot hear any sounds in windows when I plug in the usb.
Please, any idea, tips or does anyone ever experienced this before and know what's the solution?
Thanks much!

Update, it seems to get detected when I plug it in on PC that is running XP. This is getting weirder...
The Stock ICS Final i'm running works flawlessly with the usb connection, but various custom ROM's i've tried can't mount either Internal SD or External SD. Turning off USB debugging mounts the internal memory on some ROM's, but only with read rights.
There are quite a few people with this problem, and despite searching everywhere i haven't found an proper answer as to why this happens.

Did you try other Micro-USB cables? Maybe yours is screwed.
Im very new to samsung (coming from HTC DNA) so please excuse me if this is a dumb question, but, is there a special way to transfer files from my pc to phone through usb? Unbelievably, I cant get it to work. I've been resorting to using my sdcard adapter and the process is mildly frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately I cannot get it to work either. Since my first flash I started getting "missing hardware id' but it would work..... Then it worked less abs less. And now I cannot connect via usb to transfer files T all.... So I gave up.
Some alternatives.
AIRDROID: let's you edit/ upload/ download and change files including system files over your personal wifi network... I use this.
Or an Otg cBle and a flash drive
Or the annoying micro sd adapter.
From what I've read I think the only way to fix my problem is for me to flash back to stock I'm not sure if you have the same problem as me or not

Thats funny, ive been using the usb from my 'ol rezound, so I tried using my samsung one and now I can drag and drop but after only about ten to fifteen seconds windows stops and a window pops up saying that the files cant be copied either because the device is busy or it has been unplugged. :/ I tried disabling usb debugging and my pc fails to install the driver software, maybe this is my problem? Also in usb settings its set to connect as a camera, but when I switch to mtp it switches back on its own (propably because of my driver issue?)
From my Note2
fixed itself??
i just had an update with the rom i was running (scott's cleanROM ACE 4.6.1-now updated to 4.7) im not sure if it was the factory reset that did it or if it was the rom itself, but it's working just fine now...
Do you have any experience in cmd line(windows) or terminal(mac). I know I have had issues getting my phone to mount as a disk drive for easy drag and drop file transfer. I decided to bypass that and get adb tools set up correctly. With that you can transfer files from cmd prompt or terminal using the adb push command.

Whenever I attempt to connect my phone via USB to USB-C or even from USB-C to USB-C using my Windows 10 Laptop, I'm unable to select the File Transfer option. My phone immediately begins charging, and Device Manager does not detect an unknown device.
Is there a workaround to resolve this issue as I would like to place some audiobooks onto my phone that I have stored on my computer.
This has been an ongoing issue for sometime now and I'm still unable to resolve the issue myself. Hopefully someone here can help me resolve this issue as this is the first phone where I've been unable to successfully File Transfer. This feature is important for me to transfer files to and from my phone.

Do you get a popup on your phone to choose between charging, file transfer, MTP, PTP etc when you connect the phone to the PC/laptop? If not, you may be lacking the correct drivers.

Yes I sure do, but whenever I attempt to select between the default option of charging over to file transfer, it immediately reverts back to charging again. Initially, I thought it may be down to me using a generic cable, but even after using the official USB-C to USB-C adapter that comes with the Pixel 6a, and the fact my laptop supports this option, I thought this may have resolved the issue. Unfortunately, neither option allows me to file transfer.

I see that you have an AMD system. By any chance is it older than a couple of years? There was an issue with USB ports on AMD PCs/Laptops some time back which, to my knowledge, was never resolved. Instead, the newer models started working alright.
Check with an Intel machine or one that has USB 2.0 ports.

You could be onto something here. Like you've stated, my laptop is older than a couple of years old, and I've had ongoing issues with my Lenovo Laptop and it's USB ports for as long as I can remember. Do you think a BIOS update could possibly resolve this issue?
It's just a little weird why it worked fine with my old Poco F1, but for whatever reason, with the Google Pixel 6a, it doesn't seem to want to play ball.
Could a possible workaround since all my Auidobooks are stored on an External HDD to simply connect my Phone to a newer PC/Laptop alongside the External HDD and copy/paste the audiobooks over if my phones internal memory is detected? If so, this maybe my only option.
Thanks for the heads up though. This is good to know as it reaffirms my initial suspicion that it may be a USB related issue with regards to this laptop than anything to do with the phone itself.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I have if my memory serves me right? Would a simple cable like the one in this link HERE do the trick? If so, I'll order one tomorrow and see whether this resolves the issue. If not, I know it must be my laptop and not the phone that's causing these issues.

Why not just plug the external drive directly into the phone? I do that all the time when moving .flac and .mp3 files around -- works fine.
(Though it might depend a bit on the file system the hard drive uses.)
