Hey guys,
In an attempt to root my 10.1 Verizon 4g LTE, I ended up deleting stuff and resetting everything. Now it asks for SIM activation.
I have been Tabless for a few days now and need to fix this asap
Do you guys have any other idea how to bypass the SIM activation?
Thanks for the help.
PS. I do not have a SIM card.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

It would help if you actually posted this with an explination of what you did step by step. We cant help if we dont know what you did....
In all the LTE flashing I've done thus far I haven't had an issue like this on my tab. Then again I've never tried flashing any other ROMs than those identified as specific for this tab either (which basically amounts to just the liquidspeed one and the leaked 3.2).
At this point it's not clear if you're on a restored stock ROM or you're using something else since as Tdiliplane pointed out you haven't provided enough information.
More info
Thanks for looking into it. Here is more info:
I have Galaxy Tab 10.1, Verizon 4g LTE version. A couple of weeks ago it updated itself to Android 3.2. I tried rooting it so I could install TouchScreenTune.
Not sure what went wrong, but I was not able to connect to wifi. I decided to do a factory reset.
When the tab restarted, it asked for the sim card. The problem is that I don't have a sim card and I would like to just bypass this message and use the tab as a wifi device.
I read in this forum and others that pushing volume up and down combination or touching the four corners + volume up bypasses the sim card prompt, but this did not work for me.
I hope this helps.
Thanks
Ok now that makes sense and I'm not sure how to help you.
You're basically on stock Verizon ROM right now and it sounds like it's going through the default setup scripts when it's booting up since you did a factory reset.
Maybe one of the other guys out there that has this tab without SIM can chime in, personally I have a data plan so I'm of no help. I'm wondering if flashing one of the stock ROMs for the verizon tab from this site via odin would be helpful or if those too are going to ask for a SIM card.

I actually followed instruction on that thread, but Unfortunately, it did not work.
Any other ideas, folks?
Thanks
Well, this may sound obvious, but any chance you have a Verizon 4G phone with a micro sim or know someone that does? I've swapped my RAZR micro with my tablet from time to time without issue. As far as I can tell the tablet only goes through the SIM Activation on first setup/new ROM. Once the activation check is done you can run the tablet without the SIM even inserted... I've done that too... just using WiFi instead... just to see what would happen if I decide to cancel VZW services.

... nope, I have ATT on my phone, I tried usiing but it didn't work... and I don't know anyone who used verision 4G... I will probably go to a verizon store to see what they say.
This is just weird.
I went to a Verison store. They were really nice. The gave me a new card! they wanted to help by I had to leave. So I came back home inserted the card, about 10 minutes later it says: "There is a problem activaiting your tablet. Please restart and try again, or contact customer service."
I restarted a million time in vain.
The Sim card they gave you may not have been activated or linked to an active account...

I got it to work. I WAS able to bypass the activation message by tapping the four corners of the SCREEN + volume up. The first time I read about this the guy said touch the top left corner, right corner.... of the tab. Ignorant me, I was touching the external corners of the tab. Till I re-read detials of this method on another forum that explicitly says touch the )(*&^^%%$$#@@@ screen.
Anyway, thank you guys for you help.

LMAO!! Well I'm glad you kept trying and got that all sorted.
i have one - and have original sim but device stuck on please wait while your tablet is prepared and dont go to next screen , combination bottom left e.t.с dont working on any official firmware
It worked for me on stock ROM. Are you tapping the corners of the screen or the edges outside of the screen. My mistakes is that I was tapping outside the frame, the metal parts.
Please, I really desperatelly need an advice on this , I bought a used Gtab 10.1 LTE from ebay and since I got it I cant bypass the activation screen , don have sim either to activate it. I tried the four corners plus volume up but nothing happens ... Paid $400 for a useless tablet I belive it comes with stock android but not sure as I cant get to the info screen. Can somebody upload a video showing the activation bypass process ? I think I am doing it well tapping on the four corners of the SCREEN (not the frame) , top left, top right , bottom left (as if i tap back android control), bottom right (as if I tap on the battery status) and then press volume up once, but it only ends increasing the volume ....
Any help is so much appreciated. Thanks!

i have the same problem
Well , never found an easy way (aka secret code or buttons combination) to bypass activation screen on this thing. What I had to to is to root the device, then oppening settings tab with help of the phisycal OEM keyboard then going to about tablet/legal information/open code licences and selecting any text from there then from the upper menu select web search so you get to the web browser so you can google for Home Manager apk , install it and run it, now just select launcher from the app (make sure to set ti as default) and it will get you straight to the home screen where you can now access all device's features and menus but there is still a last step, go to the play store, search for and install titanium backup and freeze or remove UICCActivation process so it wont ever asks for activation again (unless you restore your tab again) and you will be able to fully use your unactivated tablet now. If someone finds an easier method for bypassing activation on this model on android 3.2+ would be great to have it posted here.
Here's the boat I'm in...
My phone right now is stock, although I've had Android phones and custom ROMs since G1 days. I've downloaded everything I need to to root, watched QBKING77 videos, and put them aside since I didn't have a time or particular pressing need to root yet. I even went through a dry run of the process to make myself comfortable with it.
I'm going on a business trip, flying out Sunday. I'm travelling with a coworker so my need still isn't critical, but it turns out we've had a lot of employees flying to customer sites this week, and there were no more MiFi wireless hotspots to grab. My coworker has one, so we're OK for this trip, as long as we're working together at least. I'd prefer to have one of my own as well, but it's not critical.
So the benefit of rooting would be that I could use wireless tethering if I found myself needing to work independently of my coworker, since I couldn't secure a MiFi for the trip. It's a "maybe" need.
I obviously need my phone - that IS critical. I've got it fully configured, it works, my Exchange setup, etc.
The risk:
I could root my phone quick - I'm confident in the process. My concern is, there's some risk that something might go wrong, and/or I have to wipe/reset my phone, and that would put me in a bad place with no time to recover before this trip.
Given your experience rooting, am I making too big of a deal of this risk?
Should I just root it, don't worry about it, the odds of something going wrong are about as slim as winning the lottery?
Or should I hold off for a time where I've got time to recover in the event I have to wipe or reset?
Rooting is for pleasure. Business first before pleasure. So don't root.

Why root unless you actually need root for an application .
jje
Flashing CF-root takes seconds. But I wanted to get rid of the flash count so I used triangle away which is risky, but it all went without fail. But if you don't need root now don't do it now.

I have potential need for wireless tethering, since I don't have a MiFi to bring on this trip.
Do you mean you want to use S3 as wifi hotspot? If so you don't need to root.
I root every phone I own and never get any problem attributable to rooting. But I heard a few bank apps purposely don't work for rooted phones.
Okay, so it's a bit of a long story but there's a woman I work with who had her virtually-new Samsung Galaxy S3 stolen by her recently-split husband last year. We all knew it was him, but we had virtually no evidence, other than it's disappearance. Anyway, so this woman recently was in his now-separated husband's flat & was rooting around. She found a Samsung Galaxy S3, smartly took a picture of the IMEI & left it. She knew it was hers, but wanted to be 100% sure. She went home, checked the box, & of course they did match. The next day, she went back to his house & manipulated the situation so that she could find enough time on her own to go take the phone back without him knowing. So she brings it into work with her the next day. The problem is, the phone now has a password lock on it. She then spent the night trying to guess the password, but to no success.
So, me being the tech guy that I am, she asked me to try to get into it. I said, the easiest way would be for me to wipe it & factory reset it, but that she would lose all of her information. She doesn't want me to do that. She wants to get pictures & stuff of her / their kids off the phone, as well as look into who her ex-husband had been talking to / see who knew about him stealing the phone. So, I said it should be possible. However, I'm not a hugely great phone guy. I'm good with computers, but not so much phones.
So, we spent the day trying various exploits found on Google or YouTube but to no success. There was one method where we had a little success where we turned the phone on > Emergency Call > Emergency Contact > Press Home > Press Power > Unlocked home screen in then meant to appear. It never did. Although we could get it to quickly flash whatever was on the home screen (which was a picture of her / their kids, which she'd set to the phone before it was taken).
So without any of those methods working, I'm tasked with now getting into the phone at home. I have no idea whether USB debugging is enabled, I would assume not. We are unable to reset the password via Google Recovery or anything because we're never offered the option. As I say, she doesn't want me to wipe the phone. But there has to be a way to get into it otherwise, either through brute force, or one of those other password cracking methods possibly?
There was a technique I found on Google at work, something about connecting the phone to your computer via USB then trying to do some stuff from command line or through a Linux distro, which I need to re-find & try.
But alas, does anyone here have any methods or know any ways that I could get around this password lock?
I have to say though, I'm glad it's not that simple (atleast it appears so, anyway) to get around one of these passwords. Makes me feel a little safer for my own Galaxy S3! haha
Hey
You said u tried the Google account method right?
If that's not working try to flash philz recovery and from that you can access the contents of the internal SD card..
U can also TRY to use the custom back up option offered by his recovery and then custom restore the data..
I can't assure you that it will work but you can try it..
Best of Luck

We did not try a Google account method, I don't think? Think we tried to log in to the ex-husband's Google account on my iPad for some reason (can't remember why now tbh) but we could not guess his password. He's apparently changed it since they split.
Won't flashing the phone wipe everything that's on it?
Hey
Not if your just flashing a recovery..
Just youtube for some videos on this...

If he lets her into the house so easily then:
1- HE didn't steal the phone because he felt no need to hide it
2- The "woman" is invading the guy's privacy and checking personal info without consent
3- Seeing who he talked to is a typical behaviour pattern of someone who is invading someone's privacy for ill intentions
4- the "woman" can always request for the guy to share the kid's photos and other stuff. No need to snoop around
To the OP:
If you do help this person break into the phone and turns out it wasn't hers, then you are aiding in a possibly criminal activity.
If he did steal, then all the best to you. Otherwise; Beware of the LAW.

Like I said, if it was indeed stolen, then I wish the OP luck.
I'm just curious why the person never approached the police with proof of ownership instead of trying to bypass the security.

I can't remember the reason she believed the phone was stolen, to be honest. The reason she had access to his house, was because they have kids together. She had gone to go drop the kids off, or pick them up. For some bizarre reason, I don't know why, he left her in the house alone after he went to take them to school (telling her to lock the door when she leaves). She took that opportunity to look around the house for the phone, as he'd never previously admitted to taking it but she was sure he did.
She found the phone, took a picture of the IMEI, went home to match to the IMEI on her box & it saw that they were the same. She's shown me the picture as well. confirming that it was indeed her phone, she then went back to her ex's flat the next day (because he was going to come along to their daughter's birthday). Just as they were about to leave, she says she needs the toilet. So, she runs back upstairs & grabs the phone without him knowing.
I think the reason why she never went to the police about it is because he was trying to get citizenship to remain here in the country, & she didn't want something like this to jeopardize whether she's in a relationship with him or not; they do still have kids together. Sending him back to Kenya over a phone wouldn't do anyone any good.

Was posted here on XDA Developers as well, but the thread was closed. Many virus programs do immediately notify that the program contains viruses / trojans, but not sure if they're false positives? Anyway, disabled AVG & it worked like a charm! So, if anyone else needs similar help, maybe try this?
Alas, suppose this thread can be closed now.

I just bought this phone about 2wo weeks ago, & it's actually not a bad for a Tracfone. It runs on version 5.1.1. But forget specs lol. It's currently not activated, & I'm not so sure if that matters when it comes to the actual process of Rooting. I downloaded KingRoot, but I seen that before Rooting I would have to unlock the bootloader. So I followed the procedures only to stumble upon something wasn't right.. I couldn't put my phone in either fastboot, download, or recovery mode.. No matter what I did. I've tried every guide & forum, but nothing. I finally called my service provider to see if they could figure out what the problem was. They came to tell me that I wasn't going to be able to access those features until I activate the phone. (which sounds really suspicious & stupid) I noticed I can access safe mode. What sounds more suspect is that I have to pay for a plan just to activate it, which I never had to do with a phone before. Nevertheless, to sum it all up.. Is there an actual way around this craziness? I never had to go thru this much to root a phone. I honestly feel like there is no point of having an android without unleashing it's true potential. Please, any help would be great. :fingers-crossed:
I have the same phone and the same problem. Still have yet to find a way. anybody?
Looks as though Straight Talk (ST) sets it up that way. I have had other straight talk phones and have always had issues rooting their phones. In fact I have never been able to root their phones. Please someone, show us a work around solution these ST phones.

Funny how I have a LG Optimus Fuel that has really crappy specs and can root easily with android kitkat but this phone is lollipop and better specs and newer can't root at all. I think it is more bootloader locked and only ones that are not locked are mediocre to expensive phones from the manufacturer now. My Optimus Fuel is a Tracfone too, just like the Rebel. I doubt anyone is interested in getting this one rooted. I would not mind because when I rooted my Optimus Fuel it let me put my Micro SD Card into exfat instead of fat32, which exfat sound quality is better and boosted volume a couple db. Only thing with Optimus one is that 512mb makes the music randomly skip. So that is one reason to get the Rebel rooted but we are SOL with this device.
Straight Talk is newer than Tracfone, because Tracfone created Straight Talk. Not the other way around. Tracfone has been around the longest.

Cannot Root my LG Rebel LTE (L44VL)
I am also having problems trying to Root my my LG Rebel LTE (L44VL) too. My Backup&Restore program of choice is Titanium, but it requires that my system needs to be "Rooted" first. I couldn't find any settings to do this (even when I enter 'Developer Mode'). I've even tried several popular Rooting app tools, including RootKing and Kingo Root (Mobile Version), but they all were not able to Root my system. Please help me with this problem...thank you very much.
At the moment I really only need to backup the critical *system* files, any recommendations?
Looks like this phone is never going to get the root attention it needs. It been out about a year now since release and nothing at all. No one cares about this phone.
Have any of you tried going into developer options and turning on the oem unlock option before trying to get into download mode or anything? Just a thought guys...
As for the optimus fuel, install towelroot. open it, tap the title/symbol 3x, change the 2nd from last digit to "zero". Tap "make it rain". Should root it in literally like 3secs...

No this phone sucks without root though lol.
I've been fiddling with this phone for months, the farthest I've managed to get was a temp root, which is undone when the phone is reset. My theory is that it's possible, if done within the timeframe before the phone resets itself, whether that means pushing files through adb or shell, or flashing a custom Rom. My phone has been through a number of battles, and has seen more bricks than a brick wall..but, I'm still at it.

This phone is the same as the Optimus Zone 3, or the LG Leon, or the LG K4, however the Optimus Zone 3 seems to be its direct ancestor.
I have successfully temp rooted with kingroot 5.2.2 and oem unlock, problem is a random crash/reboot soon follows which of course flushes all the root.
We worked on this phone and the zone 3 a few years back. Never had any luck with this handset. It's another cheap undesirable that will most likely not see any development for itself any time soon.

My phone got hacked into and I'm wondering if I were to flash the latest or previous stock firmware to my phone, would it no longer be compromised?
How can I prevent this from happening again? I'm hoping that if I activate my phone and never connect to wifi. I say this because this phone hasn't been activated and always been connected to what I thought was a trusted wifi. Also if I were to do this would it be possible for this person to hack my phone again even if I don't use wifi?
I could be wrong but I'd rather do this first than sell my phone for the 3rd time and stop using smart phones altogether.
It is hard to say really. It depends on the vector of attack used to hack your phone in the first place. And it depends on who hacked your phone. Was it someone who can gain physical access your phone? If so flashing your phone isn't going to help because they can just do it again. If it is someone who doesn't have physical access to your phone, did you download a piece of malware? Were you tricked into running some malicious code? Was it a sketchy website your phone went to.
When you say your phone was "hacked" what does that look like? Is it opening random dialogues while you are using it and typing messages to you? Is it that your phone is running slow and lags and freezes all the time? Is your phone locked up and encrypted demanding you pay a ransom in bitcoin? Did you accidentally boot into recovery more and not know wha you were looking at and assumed it had to have been hacked?
So will flashing your phone help? We dont know. Does the wifi have anything to do with it? We can't say. It may be tha specific wifi network is the culprit. It could be any connection to the outside internet. We just dont have enough information to say.
Had to make a new account, however I have everything typed out on a text file on my OnePlus. I'll post it once I get to the public library and use a computer there. I don't have a computer to use at the moment and I'm not gonna make the same mistake and see my files regarding this on my Drive disappear again.
