SGS2 Issue - Connection lost and need to reboot - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a problem since a few months, on Jelly Bean 4.1.2 stock. No root.
Sometimes the data connection is lost, and nothing seems to fix it unless I reboot the phone. The connection icon looks OK but no activity is shown and the apps can't connect. Honestly I didn't notice whether the calls are working or not.
I didn't bother too much to investigate because I thought it was an issue with my SIM maybe, but then I wiped it to pass it on to my gf, and now she has the4 issue and my old sim is working fine on my new one...
It doesn't seem a hw failure, as the reboot fixes it, but it's pretty annoying, also because rebooting drains 30-40% of the battery for some reason :crying:
Did anyone experience the same issue or has any idea what the cause might be??
Thanks in advance

About loss battery % this is the bug and you need to reset fuel gauge chip with normal apk i think in gp is somewhere.Hmm in my carrier with sgs2 i noticed on 4.2.1 on whole roms that my mobile data for some reason didnt work sometimes randomly and icon disapired and to work again i used to reboot my device and everything worked again. But on cm10-11 i think that the problem gone.

Thanks,
What do you mean exactly by "reset fuel gauge chip with normal apk"?
I am not very keen on rooting or installing a custom ROM on my gf phone, also because it was working fine since a while ago.
Anything that I can do or check on the stock firmware?

Weird Problem -- No signal if reboot while charging

My wife's phone has a very weird problem. If the phone is rebooted while it's connected to the charger, the phone will have no signal after boot up. The signal bar shows a cross and the IMEI is blank. The phone is okay if you reboot again without it being charged. I have tried alot of ways to fix this problem including changing ROM (currently on criskelo v38), changing kernel (currently on NEAK v1.3.3), changing modem (currently on XXLPH), wiping dalvik, and fixing permissions. But none worked.
My own GSII doesn't have this problem. Anyone can shed any light on this?

My problem is when reboot while chargign the phone does not recognise sim network and didnt even ask to input the simlock like normally when I reboot without charging.Maybe this is a bug?

Yah, same problem. As my wife doesn't have a sim lock, so it will show a triangle and that network is not responding or something. But it is perfectly fine on my phone. Is this problem affecting some batches?
Same problem here, I'm becoming mad. Flashing a new rom with no restored apps eases the problem for a little while, but it will do happen again. Restoring efs or changing kernel does nothing... Seems hw problem.
Ps: I also noticed a higher system cpu usage which results in higher battery drain. Phone is still usable but I don't get the same duration off charger as before.
I have this problem too, how do we fix it?

Hardware problem, I had to RMA it! It was amazingly difficult to explain the issue to the poor fella in the assistance point
I also have this problem, I just never reboot my phone when it's charging. It would be nice to fix though.
What's RMA?
Thank you

[Q][U] Random reboots

My Xperia U keeps restarting and freezing. It's happened 4 times now.
The first and third times I was typing (Once on Kik, once on Whatsapp) and the whole phone just froze, i had to pull the battery. The second time it just randomly restarted and the forth time happened about half an hour ago, I picked my phone up and it said the simcard had been removed and turned itself off, I couldn't get it to turn back on so I pulled the battery and turned it back on and it still said there was no sim card inserted, so I removed the simcard and put it back in so it restarted itself and it's working ok again now.
The phone is only about a month old. Anyone else had this problem or any ideas how to fix it?
It's running GB if that's important.
This shouldn't happen, at least not on GB. Have you tried a factory reset? Got root?

No didn't see the point of rooting it and no, if I could be bothered to set everything up again after a factory reset i would have installed ICS. lol
Maybe theres a lot of apps running in the bg. Without root without reset only possible way is to remove bloats that you can. Also try a Ram manager app.
Tapatalked !
Wouldn't they show up in running services?
Not all of them
Tapatalked !
Is there any way I can back everything up before doing a factory reset?
You can save the apks using appmonster but then the app data will be lost.
Tapatalked !
So do you think flashing ICS would help? and is it stable enough? I heard a lot of bad things.
And thanks whoever changed my title to something that only describes half my problem =/
I've got the Indian version of ICS and am pretty much happy with it. The Australian version was a nightmare.
Tapatalked !
I was thinking about that french version. Is the Indian version I or A?
And what's wrong with it?
Sent from my ST25i using xda app-developers app
Indian version is i, so is the French version. The a version lagged like hell

So should all i's be as good as each other?

Phone loses signal and cannot reconnect to network

Hi guys,
I wanted to post this in the development thread but since I'm new in here this wouldn't happen
So, here's the problem - my Samsung I9100 phone loses signal and cannot reconnect to the network unless rebooted. You can see the kernel and ROM state from the screenshot.
Every now and then the phone loses signal and unsuccessfully tries to reconnect to the network. I cannot make outgoing calls but am able to receive incoming (but only sometimes, in some cases it wouldn't receive incoming neither). Only a reboot solves the issue but this loss of signal happens at least several times a day and this is quite irritating.
Other problem is when the phone is at a state of no signal, it writes some logs in the system partition in \data\logs which quickly take up all the free memory.
I've been using this ROM since v 3.7. I've updated it twice to get to v 3.91. Through all the releases the issue persisted. I haven't had these problems with other ROMs.
I read somewhere in here that this might be a problem with misplaced or worn-out SIM card. So I put the same SIM in my old Nokia phone and tested for several days - no loss of signal observed in that period.
So any help or advise would be appreciated.
Could this be a ROM issue or a hardware problem? Maybe a kernel problem?
Would be glad if more advanced users give some ideas.
That's it for now, if you got any questions regarding the problem or I missed some information let me know.
Cheers!
Could it be this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2162374&highlight=signal+loss
or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178090&highlight=signal+loss
Have you tried other modem firmwares?
OK, seems like the easiest solution is to just change the modem...
I changed it to XXKI4 from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593
I'm starting to monitor whether the problem will reoccur.....
Hi have you solved the problem, as I'm having the same problem ?
hi :cyclops:
when I changed the modem to XXKI4 I experienced the same issue almost immediately after reboot....
then I flashed XXLPX (on random), rebooted again. Since then no problems observed, signal strength is high and 3G speeds are OK....
will keep monitoring for several more days and update you on the issue (I'd be really glad if this simple fix solves it )

Hey, having the same issue... Anything new with this modem?
I've got signal lost almost every day, sometimes few times a day, every few days the signal drops and not back (when I'm clicking on 'mobile networks' I've got the message: "insert sim card - insert sim card to access network services") and only reboot fix this problem (airplane does nothing).
Tried to clean the SIM card, the sim housing, Its not happening in specific place...
I know people who have this issue and uses a different ROMs/Kernels/Modems ROOT/NO ROOT...heres a little list:
Im using right now STOCK 4.0.3 LPG, modem: LQ6 with Siyah kernel 3.4.1
Others using other stock 4.0.3 / 4.0.4 with modems: JHLP9, LPS, ...
Someone mention [not here] about lpx modem that fix it...
If someone else tried it would be great if you share.
thanks!
I had this issue and replaced my battery with another genuine original battery which fixed it totally.

Signal lost - log screenshot
Ok, I took a screenshot from alogcat at the same time I've lost the signal... (I export the whole log but seems this app is not that smart and its export only after the signal lost so its irrelevant)
At screenshot - only the 'error messages'
Can anyone analyze this error messages? why is it happens?
Suddenly the signal lost sometimes while call sometimes not, at this time I had to reset the device to get the signal back (its happens once per few days), sometimes its lost and back after ~1 minute...
Don't know if this device has a problem (all the problems that i've heard are from this device, no matter what modem each one use) or its something else....
Would like for some help with this log, and the guy who tried the LPX modem - if its works fine now....
Thanks!
no, it doesn't work.
was OK for a few days then the problem started again.
1-2 times a day I have to reboot due to signal loss.
and the irritating part is that while with no signal the battery drains a lot and the don't-know-what-are-these-for logs keep on generating, filling the whole internal memory......
will continue to dig for a solution....

Do you have a roaming enable?
Here I suspect its the reason for losing the signal, maybe its the problem...
Did you tried your SIM with other device (not S2)?

no, roaming is not enabled and I have tried using the SIM on another phone with no problems
one strange thing is that the disconnection happens absolutely random... at first it happened several times a day.. at recent times it is more rarely - every few days.. disconnections are not related to any location or certain conditions of phone usage... simply no idea
soon I will change the ROM (respectively the kernel as well) and see if this continues
Thats weird...a lot of people with other devices have this issue...at first I thought its only on S2 (modem/kernel/hardware) then I thought its a infrastructure issues in our area.... donno mate....

Need help with this also, same issue
posting an update on the situation...
I changed the ROM with full wipe of data as well as internal memory format. Installed the latest 10.1.3 stable ROM from cyanogen - this means different kernel, different radio and a stable ROM.
And it goes on.... if I had money right now I'd just change the phone cos I'm getting sick of this ****

As per experience this is also due to battery getting weak. Monitor the % you get this problem the most. If it arises around tje same % level then its battery. Also check your battery by rotating it on table and note if it rotats easily and there is any bump in the battery

This is fault of efs in most cases.
Try jelly snap rom which i have most stable and see if it resolves the issue
Otherwise search how to repair efs if pissible

[Q] Something is wrong with my Xperia Z Ultra and I'm worried it might get worse

I'm not really sure what's wrong with my phone. Anyone? This just started happening recently and I'm worried it might get worse.
First of all, did you make a hard reset after upgrading to lollipop? Did you had that problem on kitkat?

I just upgraded to Lollipop recently, and I remember I already had this problem in Kitkat, shortly before I upgraded to Lollipop. I did a factory reset when I upgraded to Lollipop but it's still there. So I'm worried that this could be a hardware problem.

Well, I had the same problem (which occured very rarely but still) on lollipop. Never had this on kitkat so this might be a hardware problem. Do you experience this on phone just after factory reset? With phone being pretty much fresh ?

Yes I still experienced after factory reset. Do you think my phone will die anytime soon?
It's difficult to predict actually. Do you still have a warranty for your Z Ultra? If you do, you could return it for repairs. If you don't I woudn't worry about it.
Try to flash your phone with flashtool, but backup ur data in case it doesnt cure your problem
Tell me if that helps.
NFC error after update to 5.1.1
Hey.. After update to 5.1.1 I found a bit problem here. My NFC in Xperia Z ultra keeps turned ON whereas I didn't turn it ON. When I check it on setting the NFC icon is in off conditions but aftet check it in power management the NFC drained my batteries so fast. And it's sadly to know. Is there anyone counter same problem with mine or it just me?
Thanks and regards.

Moto z xt1650 constantly crashing already changed battery

Good day everyone, as the title says already changed battery, have read that after oreo update there's some kind of bug that is affecting battery, when I get into recovery mode there are no crashes so I'm guessing this is software related, already did factory reset and wiped cache. Anyone knows if this bug is real and how to fix it? Maybe flashing custom rom? Thanks a lot
I have the feeling that there is nothing to do with the oreo update. It's just coincidence. The crashing may occurred by an overworking function (as an example, while you are talking on the phone and searching sth on the internet or Facebook plus many background apps). This makes sense why you have no problems while you're in safe mode.
I also believe that except for the erratic batteries (GV30) some models have defective motherboards.
At my occasion, I got my phone back after random crashes from the service and they changed both battery and motherboard.
But, you always can try a custom rom!
In fact it worked for 2 days when changed battery, after that random crashes, maybe something to do with the new battery, its a gv one
