Need a bit of help - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

So, i have followed so many different ways of rooting this phone. I have gotten it rooted, but as soon as i put a custom recovery, i have to use odin just to get it to work. I get the error that says im using non approved software on the device. How do i get a custom recovery on this phone? I have been using rom manager via the play store directly on the phone. I have also tried side loading clockworkmod and i cannot get it to take. Is there something im missing? Also, i have tried and tried and tried to use casual, but it continues to not work. as soon as it comes up after rebooting into download mode, it doesnt get all the way through the install. it gets to the end, and stops and errors out.
I absolutely have to get some other rom on this thing. The verizon rom is driving me nuts. I sure miss my nexus... 8)

Ok, yes you have to absolutely unlock the bootloader and I'm pretty sure that Casual is the only method to really do this. Not sure how much help I can be as I unlocked my Note 2 about a year ago and the methods are changing. So make sure you are on the right OTA and that there is an unlock available for your OTA.

Yea, thats the problem. I have used casual, and it crashes every time i use it. It wont let me do a thing to the phone. Honestly, while i love the size of this phone, i miss my nexus more and more every day. Hmm...

Do you have an anti-virus installed on your computer? Casual crashed on me towards the end on first go also, until I disable Microsoft Security Essentials.

Yeah, use the same method. After your rooted, flash the rooted OTA stock Rom (google it) and also flash the its radio. That's what I did.

So.... I can use this (http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...unroot-windows-updated-5-20-w-mr1-update.html) like I did before then just flash the new radio that was released on 7/8 ?
Well now after 7/8, you have to flash while standing on your head. Yeah, its crazy like that.

That is too funny.
I am unable to install the 7/8 Combo Radio package after installing DasBAMF Stripped 1.8.6
Constantly says "Installation Aborted."
Anyone else with this experience? I thought that I had read that this combo worked.
Got this sorted. I was using an MR1 package, not MR2, apparently. Using a different packaging of the OTA update flashed in via HBOOT.

Your flashing it through the bootloader right? You can't use clockwork to flash it.

OK .. I have this HTC Thunderbolt .. I want to root it .. I have read the forums up and down ... I saw the link above to AndroidCentral that shows how to root it, and one over in the Thunderbolt Development forum that says MR1 Perma Root ...
I would like to know the best route for me to go with minimal risk of bricking. I have flashed my wife's LG Ally a couple of times .. was easy enough, just ran an exe
All of the ones I have found for the thunderbolt seem to be a lot more complex. Is there a OneClick method I can run that will include the new radio (so i can get the latest fixes)?
If not, I am willing to go the ADB route (I have the Android SDK installed) but I dont know how to update the radio.
Thanks, and sorry to ask a question that seems to have already been answered, I am only asking b/c I did not understand your answers above ..
Use adb to root. Radio is done through hboot. Power off phone. Then hold vol key down and power on. Will bring you to hboot. Make sure radio is at root of SD card and is named properly. There is a sticky in the DEV section that will walk you through it.
courtesy of my rooted bolt
I just used the XDA development one. The key point is to read it carefully several times and be sure you understand each step. Ask questions beforehand if you are not sure about something. And be sure to follow each step exactly. Typos are the biggest risk, so go slow and read what you've typed on each line before hitting enter.
The radio file needs to be renamed to PG051IMG.zip and placed on the root of the SD card. Then power off and boot into bootloader. It'll load automatically after you hit +volume to confirm "yes ".
I had several flashes that resulted in the Exclamation Point warning triangle. Pulling the battery and USB cable and reinstalling power got me back to a running build.
It took me a while to do every step. I wanted to skip steps, not realizing that you needed the downgrade and RUU flashes to get S-OFF and unlock.
Once that was all done, I went to DasBAMF Stripped and found the OTA radio in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160346.
So far, so good. Calibrating battery now and trying to personalize and optimize to my best ability.
Ok so from what I gather there are no issues that would prevent any of the previous methods from working post 7/8 update? That includes the one click app thats been floating around for a few months right?
I've been holding off root for months, but my patience has finally run out, time to do what I should have done from the beginning.
EDIT
on second thought, I think I'll just do it the good old fashioned way
I did the 7/8 update, and was fine with it. I just wanted to get the Verizon bloatware off. I had problems installing the stock debloated ROMs, so i ran with BAMF to test, and since it worked, I kept it. My rooting came after the recent OTA.
The once-click and .bat methods didn't work so well for me, so I followed the full instructions in a CMD window (I can't call that POS in DOS a shell).
Most of my time was installing a correct Java JDK (had to use x86 instead of x64) and getting ADB dialled in.

I had the same thinking and wanted it the quick and easy way. Doing the research and taking the time (and beers ) to do it manually was very informative and satisfying when i got done. It was said already but ive been able to apply any feature that an official OTA would give long before its normally released to verizon customers. I love my Tbolt and wouldnt have it any other way.

Doing things the long way has never really scared me, but some of the horror stories I kept hearing a month or two back about instability of GB roms had me a bit hesitant to go for it.
It does appear to be a bit more involved than what I am accustomed to, but I have used ADB before, I was just trying not to this time.
Can someone give me a bit of advice actually.
I'm on the end of Step 4 found in the Developement section, and when I hit Bootloader, it brings up a second menu not mentioned in the posts, what do i do from here?
Nevermind once again, screwed up the name of the zip file
I used the auto root method 3 times so far and worked great. I did the full last update and lost root so I had to redo it load Rom and just added the radio file in hboot.
try auto root its fast and simple just follow the commands on the screen!

[Q] Trouble unlocking i777 after root.

I have root, the first time it froze and didn't sent a test correctly. So I tried it again using Super one. Now I have superuser. Tried both apps on the market and neither one seem to have worked thus yet.
When I try Herolz Galaxy s unlock It is unable to copy EFS, All it says is Done, Error, Not saved. And yes there is an SD card present.
The GS2 unlocker also available on the market will fart around for over 5 minutes and say unlock code not found.
What gives am I doing something wrong? I have tried it with the sim in and with it out. Using Family mobile from Walmart, so I am guessing Tmobile sim card.
Please give me some other root around this.

I didn't know ti wasn't stock. LOL . I just bought it used from a shop here yesterday as am upgrade from gs1. Could you possibly direct me in the right direction as I am unsure what part you are talking about mot being stock.
Than ks in advance
you know you'll only get Edge on Tmo bands.
KH7 is stock, but you stated you have root. Did you do it? if not then check the android Development forums on how to get back to stock. and start the root proccess again.
I got the root through superoneclick. It seemed it did ok as the secong time I went through it said it was already rooted. as for the crappy internet it won't really matter here as we don't even have 3g here in this town for t-mobile anyhow.
if I un-root and re flash back to stock just using the button press combo work? Any why does it only get edge on tmobile?

Unroot and back to stock would require Odin/Heimdall.
Only gets Edge on Tmo because its an at&t phone. different bands for 3g.
I have used Super One Click in the past, but its just easier to flash a rooted kernal in Odin/Heimdall, then flash a custom ROM via CWM.
Back to stock is mainly because SuperOneClick is an old tool. and then starting fresh with the latest.
But I had no need to unlock my phone, but from what I've heard its very simple, and most dont have any issues. using the app from the market
I am not afraid of ODIN. I have done that in the past but I did have a huge problem with the GS1 installing an older kernel. I just about bricked the phone. I had to use the HEimdall or what ever it was to get back in it.
On these phone with a custom kernal and rom will it automatically unlock the phone? I am just afraid of using the wrong one and in this particualr section I am sure as to where to go. It doesn't give a whole lot of detail and with the cryogen mod thing it is getting places where I am not sure if I want to really try that. I would but the information is spaced out so much I am afraid of missing something and buggering everything up. What should I have to worry about when doing this?
Also it is the software unlocking I am having problems with.

Custom kernal will not unlock the phone to be used on a network other than at&t.
Software unlock? assuming you mean using s/w to unlock the device, yes thats the way i understood this thread. I cant really tell ya much about that, but i have heard that its easy and works fine, which is why you should go back to stock first, to get rid of anything messy leftover from using an old rooting method.

AT&T hardware handles different frequencies than T-Mobile hardware. It's a limitation of the phone's capability to receive the signal.

Trouble Unlocking After Odin Root of
I rooted my phone using Odin and the Siyah-v3.4.2-nomswap-I777.tar file in the PDA. The phone passed, and it reloads with the triangle on the start up as expected. However, it then says "enter network lock control key". It has nothing to do with the sim, as the sim works in another phone. I have done the process several times, running odin back to the original factory settings with I777UCLE5_I777ATTLE5_I777UCLE5_HOME.tar.md5
Could someone please tell me how to get the phone unlocked?

[Q] Softbrick? Hardbrick? Need Help!

Ok, so I tried running through Adam Outler's guide on rooting the Note 2 with the "CASUAL(R515b) No You Verizon!" method. It seemed to fail a couple of times but then it started going well. All until I got to about the last fourth of the process. Everything froze with the phone suspended in download mode. So, I unplugged everything to try again but lo and behold, the phone will not boot up anymore. It's not even a bootloop, it just shows the screen that says, "Samsung Galaxy Note 2" for a split second and then goes blank. It will do this indefinitely until I pull the battery.
I have always rooted my phones before and never had a problem like this. I have absolutely no idea how to fix this.
The phone originally was originally on the vramc3 framework and was completely stock.

Fortunately its only a softbrick. If the phone posts (ie displays the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 screen) it should be salvageable with little difficulty. Verify that you can boot download mode (power off, vol down+home while powering on). Follow a guide for returning to stock, using odin to flash a stock image. This will get you back in business. Are you certain you were using the correct casual for your firmware revision?

Ok, I was able to get it into download mode. I'm downloading the stock image right now. Yeah I 'm definitely sure that I used the right casual for my firmware. It's my friend's phone and he just bought it a week ago so he would definitely be on the most recent firmware. I'll update with how everthing goes after I try to flash the stock image. Are there any other methods for rooting it once I get it back to stock?

You seem convinced that you had the right casual, but I'm not. I dont want to sound like I'm calling you out I just want to make sure we're on the same page. My note 2 which I purchased last week from BestBuy came with LL4 (second to latest revision), so the No You Verizon wouldnt have worked, I needed Back Atcha Verizon. Which firmware you had when you tried to use CASUAL also impacts which stock image you need to flash to return to stock. As long as you are absolutely sure you were on MC3 then this is all moot. I dont know of another way to root, I would imagine there is one but you will have to search around. CASUAL is the way to go though, so I suggest we troubleshoot this and get that method to work.

[Q] Is there an Alternative Unlocking

I have read for hours and done everything suggested.
I got my friends Note 2 Stock.
I tried casual and get the error libUsb over and over
All my security measures are turned off.
Samsung drivers installed(went thru the whole uninstall ,reinstall etc)
Java updated
Win 7
3 different cables 2 different USB ports
I am rooted with Route 66
Weird part is I am on 4.1.1 and VRAMC3
Is there another way to just UNlock other than Casual?
I am adding another question and would appreciate any response as I can't seem to find the answer.
Is there another method to unlock bootloader?I am rooted.
I only ask because although I am happy with being rooted ,I want to try out a newer version of Android.I am on 4.1.
Is there a Root 66 with 4.3?

I don't think there is a fully functional 4.3 TW rom out there yet. I wouldn't flash it. Unlock the bootloader with casual, if you can't, use a different computer to do it.

Okay, so you're not unlocked then.
I see all your posts but I'm going to ask the basic questions anyway.
The first pc is obviously having issues with drivers. Seems like the second is good to go.
Do you have USB debugging enabled in Developer mode?
When you click Do it in Casual does your phone automatically reboot into Download mode?
Yes it does boot into d/l and I did have usb debug checked.I have the hand shake error but was able to get past the usb driver d/l

Okay well here's my suggestion. Use Odin to flash KIES_HOME_I605VRAMC3_I605VZWAMC3_1098177_REV04_user_low_ship.tar so you will be completely stock 4.1.2 with VRAMC3.
Then do the unlocking process with Casual R515b found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066
Don't use the nightlies...the nightlies have given me problems.
You said you were on 4.1.1 with VRAMC3... that might be the issue you're having.
If you do this I don't see why you won't be able to unlock.
Thanks for all your help.My wife is finally dumping her Iphone and likes my N2 the way it is so I'm moving on to the N3.I sincerely appreciate all your replies.

[Q] NOTE 3 FAILED ROOT. How to fix?

Ok guys, been using these forums to root phones for a while now. First phone i did was my att s3. hit a few bumps but overall it was a piece of cake. have done several different s3s and a tmobile note 3 with ease. Tried to root my sisters note 3 sprint (SM-N900P) today, and of course, i am having some issues.
I started out by trying to use the cf auto root for the phone in question, and then i get could not do normal boot. so i restart and it just boots into the same screen. I have tried reflashing stock firmware, but it fails everytime fused 2 binary 1. So then i flashed the pit file, which succeeded in letting me turn the phone back on lol, but i still cant use stock recovery anymore. also, if i try to reflash custom firmware now, i get firmware update encountered an issues screen, so i have to take the battery out for a few seconds and put it back in to get the phone to be able to restart.
SO.... I guess my questions are, what exactly went wrong? how do i fix stock recovery if nothing else? and is there a way to unlock this phone without rooting if i cant root after all? because my sister doesnt really care about custom roms, she just needs to be able to use a different carrier.
COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS BELOW PLEASE
any help is greatly appreciated.
