I see that Kindle Fire HDX now supports bluetooth controllers. I was wondering if anyone had tried using a PS3 wireless controller with it. Did it work? I know in the past you could use A Playstation 3 wireless bluetooth Sixaxis controller but you needed to have a rooted android device and run the sixaxis app. I'm wondering if there support is now out of the box or if you still need root to make this work.
Can't you try it?
I went ahead and tried with my PS3 controller and HDX 8.9" The HDX would not see the PS3 controller when I scanned for bluetooth devices so it looks like it won't work without root and the rest of the software needed.

You need to side load the six axis controller app then sync it to your ps3 controller I have done it on my phone, but havent tried yet on the HDX. If I have some time over the weekend I will try to set it up and see if it works.
Did that but I can not find where to enable sixaxis support under keyboard and language so yeah its still not useable becuase of the settings setup in Fire OS
I also do not have root becuase ADB is not working with my Kindle Fire HDX apparently
Edit: Ok managed to get root by using another PC but the sixaxis app does not see the controller still even with root and the IME set to Sixaxis Controller. I type the address that the Pair tool on PC gives me and it basically tells me no controller found.
I was basically following the steps on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779347
Same error here

Have you tried it using an OTG cable?
OTG does not work in general, so you will not have it connected anyway.
As for gamepad I have purchased nyko playpad pro and it is working.

I've been searching the internet for a while now and I couldn't find any helpful information on controllers that definitely work with a retail Galaxy Tab 10.1 using the host USB adapter.
All I could find was information on Xooms, Transformers or Google I/O Tabs.
Wii controllers seem to be a popular choice since there is an app available for them but other than that it's hard to find any helpful facts.
I'd like to find something that at least has the capabilities of a Wii Classic controller but without it having to be connected to a Wiimote controller for when I play some ROMs. So far I couldn't find an available version that does not need to be connected to a Wiimote over here in Germany.
I don't care if it's wireless or connected directly through an USB cable.
Is there anyone here who has found a controller that works with their 10.1 that is commonly available?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I can confirm that my Logitech Dual Action USB Gamepad works perfectly on the Tab using the USB adapter. Model Number is G-UF13A. Hope this helps.
I just received my controller yesterday and it works alright in snes9x ex. It's the icontrolpad. I got it off of ebay. The application that allows it to work is in the market. It's called Bluez IME. It allows the use of four different bluetooth controllers but of the four I thought that one looks the best.
The other three that work using that program are:
Zeemote JS1
MSI Chainpus BGP100
Phonejoy
And here is a link to the app

If you have any other questions just let me know
has anyone gotten a ps3 controller to work?
I've tried several times but to no avail. even with pershoot's kernel and loading the hid-sony.ko module. I was hoping the TW update would fix this but i kind of doubt it. if you get it to work let me know lol

I have gotten the ps3 controller to work with pershoots kernel. The controller has to be charged completely before connecting to the tab.
Thank you so much guys! The Logitech Dual Action USB controller looks like a good choice. I hope they still have one in stock on Amazon.de when I come back from Ibiza.
As for the Bluetooth controller:
I can't seem to find one that's available on this side of the big pond.
I'd love to hear more reports on working controllers. Maybe we could start a list. That would help a lot of people.

Yup. Bet the guy above would have seen overcurrent trips in the dmesg, if he'd looked at the dmesg.
Uncharged controller = current trip.
Charged controller = works with pershoot's kernels and the hid-sony.ko module
GO to this link and buy it. It works beautifully with the Tab.

I did get the current trip message the first time so I charged it up fully and it gave me no current trip message but still got nothing. I never figured out what I was doing wrong. After installing Pershoot's kernel I pushed hid-sony.ko into modules using root explorer, ran insmod /data/local/modules/hid-sony.ko in terminal and it gave me no error messages so I hooked up my controller and nothing happened. Are there any other steps involved? Do I have to hit the PS button? Once it's connected should I be able to navigate through my apps and screens straight out the gates?
Sixaxis controller
Sixaxis controller from the android market works great if you have a ps3 controller. Requires root before you can use it.
Yup the Sixaxis App works like charm on my P7500. I hope there will be more Android Games in future that support game controllers.
Which games don't? I just ordered the Sixaxis off ebay and am hoping to replace the Wiimote I have been using for mario and such.
I rooted my Tab 10.1 just for this and the Tablet recognizes the PS3 controller but I can't seem to get it to work with my GBA or N64 Emulators. When I map the buttons in the Emulator it recognizes the buttons I press but it doesn't translate to the games itself. Any useful hints? Did I miss something?
/Edit:
The game Cordy recognizes the controller but the screen goes black after a while as if I'm not pressing any buttons. Do I have to set the screen timeout to never when I use a controller?
/Edit 2:
Snes9x seems to work perfectly with the PS3 controller. I wonder why the emulators from Yong Zhang don't work with this setup.
/Edit 3:
Figured it out. Apparently you have to enable the option "Enable Input Method" (Game Pad / Bluetooth Controller) so that the controller actually works. Tried SNESoid, NESoid and N64oid and they all worked.

Oh yeah, now I remember that - I had to hit the PS button before it would do anything.
hey, i'm new here, but i felt the need to necro this thread and add a controller i found working quite well to my own surprise.
i used the official usb adapter and plugged in my Saitek cyborg gamepad
and it works flawlessy on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (3.1) with my emulators (tried nesdroid and snesdroid).
i cant post links but google 'Saitek Cyborg Rumble Gamepad'
it's the pc version, USB, black/greyish colors
myself tried finding a good controller but they seem to be expensive or hard to find and i didnt want to root my device just because of that so maybe this helps someone trying to get a nice controller with lots of buttons for a fair price.
Sixaxis
Sixaxis works on rooted GTab's?!? Score!
There is an app in the Play Store that lets you connect your PS3 controller to Android devices. Someone got it working here on a Nook: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCOAsQyQqhM
I got it installed to my device, but when I click "Start" in the App it crashes. Any thoughts on what I'm missing?

Do you have a Nook Color or a Nook Tablet?
As far as I know, you won't be able to connect anything via bluetooth to the Nook tablet.

nook tablet does not have bluetooth, so no. If you invest in a USB OTG cable it might work, but they difference between the charging port and a normal micro USB port, I dont think it would work unfortunately.
Hello,
i tried to connect my wireless Xbox 360 Controller over an OTG-wire with my Lenovo s6000l Tablet. The lights on my controller and wireless adapter show me that my controller is connected, but my tablet show me no reactions. The App BT/USB Joystick Center does not find the controller. I tried to download the Vendor files from another thread in this Forum and copied them on to my Device.
I even tried to connect my PSX-Controller (PS1) over an PSX to USB adapter with my device, but the buttuns had a bad configuration. The app Sixaxis Compatibility Checkers tells me that my controller is found when i click on Start but when i press Pair Controllers it says that he couldnt find any controller and i should connect one through USB.
After searching the Internet im still without any solutions. I hope you can help me and thank you.

I FIGURED IT OUT FINALLY! If anyone has problems with their Android not working with otg devices. Once your rooted any of arter97 kernels will make any most any popular otg controller work with no modules or anything! It's great! So excited I've been trying to figure this out for a week now. I HAVE A ONEPLUS 7 PRO RUNNING ANDROID 10 OPEN BETA 8 with arter97 kernel. Works perfectly with Xbox 360 controller connected via otg thru the Xbox 360 witless reciever!!!! I have 16 Xbox one and 16 Xbox 360 controllers and otg is the only way to play 4 player GameCube and Wii emulator games on Android with dolphin emulators. niceroms.com has every game ever created for GameCube and Wii to download free

most android apps can work in the HDX with the Fireos, eventhough the Gapps isn't in it , You can use ESexplorer do the googleplay's job. So I guess you can use the Sixaxia Controller app.
I know, this is how i launched psp emulator and others. But sixaxis app is strictly binded to google play. Maybe someone has an experience whitch particular controller works with hdx?

I've tried Sixaxis on the gapps rom... Unfortunately, I was unable to pair my PS3 Dualshock controller.
According to an Amazon post, Bluetooth gamepads are not supported on the HDX (unless they have a keyboard mode):
The problem with both of those is that even with Android 4.0.x the Fire OS still has host mode disabled on the USB port and only implements part of the HID protocol in the Bluetooth stack. Unless it looks like a Bluetooth keyboard the Fire is not going to talk to it.
Well, is there any controller, that will suite this requirment? Or is it hard to develop some kind of bridge between some abstrack bluetooth keyboard and real controller? I' am little experienced with .Net development, but never tried anything mobile. I' ll make little research about this.
hi!
I've recently bought the fire HD 6, and was thinking if there are any compatible bluetooth game controllers.
I was thinking to connect it to the TV and use it as a sort of android game console.
Thank you very much
Root and use a PS3 controller is probably your best bet.
The Ouya controller work just fine. Just press the OUYA button (located on the low center in the controller), and when two light start blinking, search as any device at bluethooth menu.
The Ouya controller has an integrated touchpad and can be used as a mouse on your screen. But if you're planning to play a game, remember it's depend if that game has the controller button mapping or you'll need to use Tincore Keymapper to do it manually.
I already rooted my KHD6, so I did the controller test after root, but I'm pretty sure you don't need the root to make it work. I use the same controller on my NON-ROOTED Fire Stick TV and works just fine.
PS4 Controller works like a charm, Played Pokemon On Myboy for a little while, while it was linked to my Chromecast.
I would say a PS4 Controller works out of the box as well, as I wasent rooted at the time.

I just bought this controller about week ago and it work with HD6 (I only use GBC,GBA, and Drastic emulators). They work good so far. I haven't test any Android games yet, but I assume it work fine. This controller is awesome. I used with my HD6, phone, and laptop. Recommended!
