[Q] What is keeping my CPU busy in the background? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is Jiayu G3S, with a MTK6589 cpu and android version 4.2.1
I use latest xposed installer and latest gravitybox.
My problem is that something is keeping my cpu busy in the background, preventing it from sleeping.
For example, i left it last night, and i opened it after 12 hours, it was awake and using cpu for about 90 minutes.

My normal consumption is 0.3% every hour, but now it is 3%, like 10 times more. Also noticed greater consumption when screen is on.
As you can see, there is no strange wakellock that lasts that long and all my apps have settings not to auto-update.
I tried reading my logs but i didnt find any info.
I would appreciate any help

I dont know why my images dont work on xda

Check out Better Battery Stats and you will be able to find what apps or processes are running.

already did, the screens are right there.
Nothing, no system or user app, is consuming so much time.
But on CPU states i see that my cpu is used 100%, while its supposed to be sleeping.
I also used log viewers, but nothing ade sense to me.
Any suggestions?

From my phone the images are terrible and now from my tablet just as bad, I see you used betterbattery stats but have you tried watchdog?
If so try to post those screenshots as well, if I can't read them I'll check again when at a pc

Isn't that the Android OS bug? Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290020
Haha really? Im asking because I always see people telling that they get like 2 days of battery life and Im not even half a day and its already at 64%

If I flash a new kernel is it suggesed to flash it at 100% or it doesnt matter?

It depends on screen on time in relation to time on. You can easily get over a day but screen on time will be minimum.
Take me for example, right now 69% left, 3hrs 35mins in, screen on time 1hr 52mins, heavy usage whilst I was watching formula 1. For me that's good.

Juicedefender

Does this app work I keep hearing great things but I've tried and either it didn't work or I didn't get it. Any advice? Thanks

It really makes a huge difference. All I use us the mobile data option, and I get an average of about 75% increase.
Yes it does. I've done a couple battery calibrations and use j/d and also see a pretty decent improvement. Not to mention using bi-winning 3 with the baling 1.8.8 kernal!!!! Great combo.

If only there was something about battery life? A guide maybe with apps that could be downloaded.
Actually I have a detailed explanation on how Juice Defender works on post #3 and a copy of the free version.
Well this is what I get without turning off data or wifi just undervolting. No other special apps that's y I'm wondering.

Just curious why do you need your battery life for more than 2 days??

I don't know why, but Juice Defender wrecks my battery life. It keeps it from entering deep sleep so I've stopped using it. My phone is probably one of the unlucky few though.
Ya so I tried this on my G1 and never worked then I tried it on my vibrant and wrecked my battery also I was just always wondering if I didn't have the right settings on or something so I just forgot about it and move.on

Little question about battery!

Hi guys, I wanted to know if, with this rom + kernel combination, my battery is good and, possibly, to know which applications kill it.
So I have to go on settings/about phone/battery use, right? And how can I see which apps kill the battery? Because here I see only cell standby, phone idle and display...And how can I know if these percentages are too high? thanks
Basically, the apps that kill android's battery are the ones which have wakelocks."Battery use" in settings won't help you see what apps aren't letting the phone to go to deep sleep, but you can see how much time your phone didn't sleep. You can use betterbatery status to see what apps are sucking your battery life.Example:facebook xD

The developer of Better Battery Stats has provided a free version for XDA members; you can grab that here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809
If you do like the program, by all means buy it and support the dev

Exactly. Pretty much any social networking app, eg Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, etc, that runs in the background even after being "killed" will eat up your battery.
Thanks everyone
Probably I'm the only person all over the world which doesn't use facebook or any other social network, so I can be relaxed
I've download it but I don't understand
Is there a good souls who could explaun me how it works?

You don't actually use it. You mostly read and interpret the data it stores on what uses the most battery life and then you act if you want on those processes.
The app begins to store data as soon as you unplug your phone so the best way to see how it works first hand is to let it run a day or as long as it takes for the battery to go down (I have heard of some o1 users that need to recharge their phone after 3-4 days of use) and just change the first roll down option. You'll figure out what uses the most battery.

Help with battery drain

Hi guys,
I recently updated to JB using HSD Pilot's update package, and everything passed fine. I experienced battery drain before and i tought it will be better for a week or two. But that didn't happen.. Is threre a way to make battery life better with some kernel or smthng like that, or with custom rom (I saved root)... I am a GSM user... Just look at the screenshots, my battery life is LAME!!
Thaanks!!

Try to use other governors and schedulers, turn off mobile data when not in use, use the 'greenify' app. It hibernates apps. Use your phone after full charge until it almost dies

You aren't the only One that app killed my battery faster than keeping the screen on pretty impressive how an app can manage to drain battery that fast and this is on my home Wi-Fi network. The app is trouble and if it's not draining battery for some people it's definitely not helping their battery either So best to keep it turned off imo.

Mine was doing the same thing even with the app off.. still running WILD with GPS .. climbing. Ended up killing it that way.. going and hitting FORCE STOP under apps, killed all background apps in Dev options.. Funny thing is.. first few weeks with this phone.. It never showed up.. Suddenly it's there and going nutz!!! (It's all fixed for now) lol :good:
This is what mine is doing.. CONSTANTLY. I can watch the GPS usage climb.. and i have location off.
