[Q] Xperia Mini Pro: Trouble with LX CM11 Kernel booting - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello XDA! I have been a keen follower of this forum for long, but this is my first post, 'cause well... this is the first time I pretty stuck at something.
I have a Xperia Mini Pro (SK17i) and I have been using it for quite a while, around 2 years I presume. I have rooted and unlocked the bootloader by the end of the first year, and have been trying out several custom roms, until stopping at CM10.1 of LegacyXperia. (the amazing creation of Mike for our 2011-line of devices!) However, as of a month back, my touchscreen kinda broke - it wouldn't respond along with the capacitive buttons. I tried the methods mentioned in the general section, but no avail - it simply wouldn't work at all. There's a thin small strip that appears around the screen during pulling out the hardware keyboard, and I guess that somewhat suggests that the touchscreen is invalid by hardware means.
However, that's merely a background to the problem I'm facing. Recently, after the launch of CM11, I thought of giving it a swing, seeing how I have been an avid-fan of the pure look of CM. I tried flashing the kernel using flashtool and start the phone, but the only thing that takes place is just a vibration and a black screen. The screen remains black for like ever, until I pull out the battery. I tried flashing the kernel thrice, and the same problem persisted all through. I reverted back to the stock ICS then and it worked like a charm, and the same goes for FXP CM10 and the last CM10.1 I used... there's no problem whatsoever, save for the broken touchscreen.
Any suggestion one might give about my problem? Thanks a ton for reading out everything!

The kernel is incompatible with your phone.

Care to explain a little more? I have flashed the kernel provided within the rom zip itself (as suggested time and time again), and I have double checked its for the correct device - i.e. mango.

yeah i though so...was going through the post...did you try this..
1.1 (optional): If the device is not booting, reboot to bootloader again and run:
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
As the rom requires a new partition table and maybe system and userdata is conflicting...

Thanks a lot for pointing it out, mate! Usually the roms I tried didn't require such a thing, but this might be it. I'll provide feedback if the steps works.

I tried the steps advised, but the problem seems to still persist to some extent. The capacitive lights are lit and the screen is lit as well (as could be understood from the viewing angles - it's brighter and powered up). Nothing seems to appear on the screen though - no boot logo or anything - and trying to enter recovery fails as well (through power + vol up shortcut). I have tried it twice already, kept the phone switched on for five minutes or so, but no avail. I had to pull battery out every time to shut down the device. Anyone have any other advice?

try this.....Have the stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587 full ftf flashed (doesn't matter if you have flashed it in the past or if you flash it before installing cm11.0, it will work both ways)
then see if device powers up...
once it does...go for the next steps........

I wonder if its a hardware related issue...you said in your op that there is some problem with your screen and capacitive buttons...Got any friend with sk17i???? I had one before it was stolen......Every other rom apart from CM11 is working right..Is there any other Kitkat based ROM for sk17i..if its there you may try that out and see if you have the same problem...otherwise..wait for a kitkat based rom to come up and try before flashing this...Try one more time from scratch...flash stock ICS 4.1.B.0.587 full ftf..reboot....once its working...fastboot flash boot.img...then better to fastboot erase system and fastboot erase userdata and then before it boots enter recovery and wipe data cache everything...flash update.zip..wipe cache, data, dalvik cache again...and boot..if it doesnt boot up then there is no option but to wait..

Exactly. That's the whole reason why I posed this thread - to know if it was a hardware related problem right off the bat, or there was really something that I was doing wrong. I'll rather leave this one open to see if anyone have any other opinion about the matter. I really want to see what Kitkat looks like seeing how it's not available for my current device. (Micromax A210)
Also, about trying out other 4.4 roms... I guess I can try that route. But seeing how this problem is induced by the kernel itself and every other rom out there is mainly based off the LX 3.4 kernel, I doubt if that will work. I'll try the option anyway and see if it works.

Yeah.....waiting for other roms wont work.....cz they are all based on 3.4.x kernel.......Umm can you check your baseband after flashing full ftf...baseband should be : 8x55A-AAABQOAZM-203028G-77..every other rom based on 3.4.x kernel works right???...btw if you want to see how it looks just download a kitkat launcher from playstore....

Yes, the baseband is .77 after flashing the ICS 4.1.0.B.587. I used 3.4.x kernel with CM10.1, but never really tried CM10.2 to that extent. Maybe I'll try downloading that and see if it works... or even the EOL CM10.1.
And sure, the launcher would give in the feel, but I want the full experience possible really.

[Q] Proximity Sensor Problem CM7 SGS2 Nightly Build 116

I seem to be having an issue with the proximity sensor on CM7 build 116. It was working perfectly. Suddenly, whenever in a call, the screen on my SGS2 would turn off as it was supposed to but then never turn on again. The only way to get the screen back on was to hard reboot the phone. I installed Z-DeviceTest and sure enough, the proximity sensor reads as constantly a distance of 0 (i.e. something covering the proximity sensor). If anyone knows a way to calibrate the proximity sensor or for a fix for this issue that would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks.
Update: Found a post somewhere that said the issue could be fixed by cleaning the screen really well. Took out the old microfibre cloth and voila, proximity sensor works again.
Hi all,
Anyone still got this build, esp 116..... As it appear to be the only one working on i9100 allegedly...
Thanks, Lister

What about the cm-7-20120722-NIGHTLY?
Hi @gsstudios,
You seem to be the most active person on here, thanks for coming to my support/rescue again...
Yeah, I've tried that one... I've tried that, and a couple of others from that page (all CM7.x releases) and after I've flashed them, they all just bootloop with the Samsung logo....
What's more annoying than it just not booting, is that it appears to remove any kind of recovery... As you can't get back into it, to flash anything else. And so have to enable Download mode and flash a kernel with Odin to be able to wipe and try / start summit else...
I've tried, 'the various solutions'
1) All the normal wipes
2) Flashing the rom twice
3) Returned the phone back to official stock PITs, it's even running stock (Android 4.1.2) OS at moment.
Just can't get it to boot....?? What's odd, I have actually had it running on this phone at some point... When it didn't belong to me. And that's the whole reason I purchased it off my friend, so I can go back to CM7, as well as keep upto date with all the Lollipop jazz...
Very odd, don't know what I did last time that made it work... As I just flashed it normally when the phone didn't belong to me... Didn't do anything fancy....
Also, is there a difference on CM's website between i9100 and galaxys2 listings...? (not that it helps, as one of the branches doesn't even have the files). Just seems odd to have 2x international versions... I can understand if it said i9100G or something, but they both seem the same... Perhaps I downloaded a different CM7 rom at the time...??
Thanks, Lister

Galaxys2 was the old name used for our device by cm. Now its i9100 which is the actual name for our phone. Galaxys2 has all of the old builds of cm, while i9100 has all of the newer builds. Other than that, its for the same device.
Sorry. I can't help you with the cm 7 build you are trying to find.
Hi @gsstudios,
Ah I see, I did wonder why there was 2x seperate branches for the same device... I could understand if one was for the HD or the LTE version, but I guess they already have their own variant name in CM already... Just thought it was odd to have 2x i9100 builds going on together.... lol
Anyway, regarding CM7.... I've finally managed to get it to work!!!! YIPPIE!!!!!!! Finally... Although I swear it wasn't as hard as this when the phone DIDN'T belong to me, and I did it as a test for my mate... But anyway, got it installed and loving it... It's nice to go back once in a while to where it all began (well, for me anyway.... My first device came with Android eClair, I think Android 2.1 or summit??) But CM7.x was my first custom OS ever installed on ZTE Blade.
It would seem all the CM7 builds that I can find, both on CM site, and other hosts are all BORKED (broken) and that they lack Boot info, hence the BootLoops... and that all their recoveries are broken, as not a single one would go back into recovery after flash, had to Odin it back to life with a PC. Not cool if ya gone out for the day... lol So basically I found some random GB kernel, and flashed that after CM7 + GApps + Recovery.... and thank the lord, it all boots again...
I'd just like to THANK YOU, for always consistently and continually coming to my support needs..... Your help/advice has been extremely helpful.... thanks
Lister

[Q] Black screen...

Ok, I know some other people posted about black screen but all the other threads seem to be about it happening after a call.
Mine happens when the phone been sitting for a while with the screen off (and it's not all the times) it seems more prone to it if the screen been off for longer times.
I tried two different roms with two different kernels both have the cpu idle speed setup at 384 or more. As soon as I flash they seem to work ok but after a day or so the freaking black screen comes back. I also have pimp my rom installed with the "no black-screen after a call" tweak ticked.
I've went through the process of unrooting going all the way back to stock and start from the beginning all the way from unlocking the bootloader to S-off.
Downloaded fresh copies of the roms zip files
I don't think it's any of the apps since this does not start right away it takes a day or so after everthing been runing (but I might be wrong).
Obviously it's not the rom or the kernel since it does it with two different ones, what else is there that can be messing with my phone???
It's driving me crazy!!!!
Can it be hardware related????
I'm lost with this, and started thinking on a new phone already but I can't buy it until mid 2013 so I don't want to give up yet (actually can't).
This been working just fine up until a month ago or so, it's just now that the black screen started harrasing me.
Edit: It just happened again and since I could not get the screen up, I decided to pull the batt and when I turned the phone on again I got the vibration but the screen didn't light up during booting at all until I pressed the button few times.
Could my screen be dying?

have you ever considered its the tweaks your doing to your phone.. have you tried just flashing the rom and running it without doing the tweaks... not every phones hardware is identical so not all tweaks might work... ive flashed a rom recently that experienced some boot loops after doing some tweaks to the rom, and now im running that rom flawlessly without any tweaks...
---------- Post added at 12:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:00 AM ----------
you might also want to try the rom with the default kernel that comes with the phone not faux which i'm assuming your using
To be honest, no I haven't thought of that.
I just re flashed everthing, if the problem starts again I'll remove all the tweaks.
But the thing is the phone was working well and one day without changing anything it started with this. But I'll try removing the tweaks if this persist
Thanks,
Nope, it wasn't the tweaks.
Fresh flash, no tweaks and I still have to press the on button many times to get the screen to turn on
which rom are you using again?
I'm on NRG blue but I tried the Bulletproof for a while and it did it too that's why I'm thinking that is not rom related. It has to be something deeper than the rom.
Phone was working great until last month that I travelled abroad.
As soon as I got to the country I was visiting I put a local sim card and it took me a while to be able to boot, to the point that I had to restore from a backup.
Then during the time I was there I had several random reboots (like once or twice a day).
When I came back I swapped the sim again and no more reboots but after a week or so I started with this black screen problem, it was really bad to the point when sometimes I needed to pull the battery off to see if that helped and the rom got really screwed (I think sense got screwed because the screens were doing weird things). So I reflashed, it fixed all the weird things but not the black screen.
Now it's not as bad (I only need to press 3 or 4 times the button) and it's not alway, only if the screen been off for a while but my previous experiencest tells me that it will get worse in few days time...
okay i have a few suggestions.. do you do a full wipe when you flash a rom? wipe data/factory then format system then wipe cache partition's then wipe delvik cache.. and you should try going back to stock completely then trying a different rom and see.. its about testing all possibilities before coming to the conclusion your phone is damaged somehow
yes I always do a full wipe and/or the 4ext wipe and clear dalvik and cache. Not sure about the factory reset since I wasn't sure where that would take me.
you should try going back to stock completely

Do you mean relock, S-ON and goall the way to GB? or to ICS T-mous stock??? I did go to ICS (this one) http://d-h.st/3VD but I can do it again (I can alway use some practice with these procedures...)
I
you dont have to S-ON again i mean Stock ICS from your carrier.. and stock Ruu's are located in my signature if that link is one you got from there go right ahead... and try and flash back to stock, if you need instructions let me know

I did that yesterday and yes the ruu Iused is the same as the one listed there as most recent.
I just found an interesting discusion on the faux kernel thread about a problem, with the earlier version (which is the one I was running when the whole thing started) and that happened to me before this black screen.
This is the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1359951&page=232 and it's mentioned in the quote on post #2316 and ahead.
I PM'd AJ to see if he thinks this could be related since in one of his posts he said something like reverting to stock won't help (for some reason)
but overall from what i just read... the issue seems to be related to the faux kernel.. i only flashed it once but ii didnt do any tweaks,, i mostly use the stock kernel that comes with most of the rom's i flashed... here's what to try... in 4ext wipe all partitions except sd card, then wipe both sd card partitions internal and external.. toggle usb storage and flash this super wipe script in recovery.. then flash a different rom and don't flash faux.. test the rom out to see if your problem occurs again.. or flash the super wipe then place the ruu on the SD card then attempt to flash back to stock
Try this thread and see if it will help your situation.

I'll try it.
Thanks,
Tried that and didn't help, but thanks for the suggestion.
What I noticed today is that since Icouldn't get the screen on no matter how many times I pressed the darn button I pulle dhte batt out and then rebooted the phone to see if that helped and even though I got the little vibration confirmation when the phone boots up there was no white HTC splash screen or bootanimation whasoever, anyway since I could still not get the screen on I tried the same thing a few time and then once I finally managed to the the screen on I said int the bottom left corner SAFE MODE (never seen that one before). I'm running Bulletproof reloaded now.
Oh and the batt was kind of low (may be 20%).
Wow!!!! I do own a very messed up phone!!!
Today this piece of crap threw a total temper tantrum.
Would nos turn the screen on no matter what. I removed the batt and not even rebooting to the point that when I finally got it to boot it had an internal SD error. It didn't allow me to format, wipe or partition it from bootloader or recovery.
Now I'm at home so I flashed stock RUU (again) and it seems like its running one more time but I was really close to throw it over the cliff where I was Flying my RC gliders.
We'll see if I can make it last a bit longer...
so its working once again, cuz you said you flashed back the stock ruu right?
Yes,it's alive (will for how long this time). I flashed stock a couple of times , I unlocked once again, flashed 4ext, flashed JP hboot, superSU, NRG rom, supersu again (since IO wasn't sure in which order I should have done this) flash rom 2nd time, flashed Faux's v 24 (twice) and Downloaded most of the apps clean from Gplay.
I'm getting a lot of practice with this, who knows, may be one day I become good at it
its good your practicing now, but don't forget to do backups before you flash anything to your phone, this this way you'll have a stable install to restore back to incase anything goes wrong again
I been doing more tests and yesterday I run it on stock most of the day with no apparent issues, then I restored the NRG rom from a backup and still no issues so I started to think it was something I messed up flashing the JB Hboot, I moved to a bulletproof rom and decided to do another test.
I sat on the phone as to block signal and the issue came back.
Now I'll try the same with NRG, yep it seems like it's when the phone loses signal the screenwon't come back afterwards.
I'll try the same in stock rom next...
Yes, it did it in stock too but not so bad, it seems like after few attempts the screen worked againgvs. on bulletproof didn't
Ok, I found this in some other thread...
[QUOTE8. Black Screen - Phone will not wake-up
I'm accidentally find out and solved the problem of Black Screen during in-coming call (BulletProof 2.2.0). By replacing the service.jar from the previous version (BulletProof 2.1.0) with the intention to get rid of the CRT file in my system, by doing this I am also discovered that the black screen problem is gone. However, this problem can be easier solved by simply dis-able the screen-on/off animation setting instead of replacing the service.jar with the one from previous build which doesn't have CRT.
It's worth to be note that during my old days with the HTC HD2 running Nandroid I've encountering similar problem of black screen when waking up the phone and it was caused by the CRT as well. This, at least happened to me with more than 3 Rom, including the famous AmeriCanAndroid, HyperDroid and Tytung's ...
So if you are experiences Black Screen problem, please check to see if you did flashed the CRT and/or enable it? ][/QUOTE]
Can somebody tell me to how do I check this?
Thanks,

[SOLVED]Touchscreen died after flasing the wrong rom on sk17i

I flashed Iced Bean 4.0 on my xperia sk17i and i think my touch screen died because of it, That rom has aroma installer and there was no my device on that list so i chose xperia pro. Installation was successful but touch screen didnt work. I reverted to stock using flashtools and it still doesnt work. Is there any way to fix this problem? i really need to try something so pleas suggest.
Just to be clear i'm not blaming on anybody, it is total my fault. I'm fully aware of risk installing custom roms so pleas help in any way you can
Thanks in advance
Have you tried to flashing a new kernel which was made for the phone? As far as I know drivers areusually stored within it in Linux / Unix systems so it might apply here for the touch screen as well.
i tried using command fastboot flash boot boot.img and generally did not work. I have unlocked bootloader. I had hard time finding guide to do that for my phone. I did revert to stock using flashtools and ftf file.
When you say fastboot didn't work, do you mean it could not connect to the phone? Where you in fastboot mode when you tried it?
I recently put the 4.4.4 AOPK rom (Link) on my phone and had trouble getting into fastboot to flash the required kernel, I think I solved that by using the flashtool.
If flashing the stock kernel doesn't fix the issue, perhaps using a custom one, which works with ICS, will help?
You can find some here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47407355&postcount=3

does this thread help you? [TUT] Fix broken touchscreen problem of xperia mini pro (SK17i,SK17a)
Fastboot worked fine, but any custom kernel after successful flashing didn’t work. I have installed managed to install xperialegacy cm11 it has custom kernel and it didnt fix touch screen. I will try the link you posted. On the side note i bought another sk17 today, yes i love this phone LOL xD
Yess, million times thank you . I made it using this tutorial
here is what you have to do for fix your Bricked touchscreen.
What you need for that is any custom rom with an aroma installer.
1. Flash suitable firmware with Flashtool ( i flashed .587 Because i used Zellycream rom V4 )
2. Then Install any ics Kernel that you like (I installed messa hybrid kernel v4.3 )
3: Then install Any rom that has Aroma installer in it and does support your device, via Cwm recovery (I installed Zellycream V4)
3. While installing the rom choose ST17i in Aroma instead of SK17i
4. Reboot after installation is completed.
5. Wait until phone is On homescree.Nopw touchscreen should work but h/w keyboard not
5. Reboot again into CWM install "keymap_for_pro_XXXX.zip
Link here For Keymap Mini pro
6. Reboot phone again.. Now keyboard and touchscreen should be working. Also options for h/w keyboard should appear now.
Good luck,
It did worked for me hopefully its also going to work for you.
Notice : At first your Touch might not responce how it was before, but give it a time it will work fine after some hours or day or it might never work like before.Mine touch screen worked normally after 8 hours of installing the rom with this method.

Now i have questions. Can for some reason touchscreen die again? and also which rom do you recommend for good battery and camera? i like stock but i find it tedious to root and remove all the unwanted apps only to free up a couple of MB and potential screw something
Update: I see that i need to flash a zip which fixes tochscreen. when installing new rom. Is this hardware or software problem?
It would surprise me if the screen died again from the same issue, as the harmful code should have been overwritten by the fix.
I am not a developer though, just a normal user with some basic linux knowledge.
I'd suggest trying out Real ICS. I think I ran it before I got my new phone (I just recently started using the Mini Pro again) and can't remember having any complaints back then.
Other than that you could just go through the rom list. There are some which claim to be focusing on performance, I haven't tried them myself though.
I currently use AOKP kitkat (with some modifications, see this post) but I cannot yet if I'll stick with it. Maybe gonna try out this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277199 next.
I think im going to stick to the stock for the now. Camera is the best there
I tried swapping motherboard from working sk17i to mine. MB is on stock 2.3 and bt is locked. To my surprises it did not work. Phone boot fine but touch screen does not work. I though this is a software problem, but i guess touch screen device has some controllers or something that were affected too.

I'm confused. Didn't you solve the issue already?
If the damage is permanent, then maybe the touchscreen got damaged by using the wrong rom?
If you really want to have two working phones, you could get a replacent display from ebay. They start at around 30€ these days.

Slow boot

I have the resurrection 5.8.0 installed (30 Dec build) and my phone takes about 5 minutes to boot. Initially it is stuck in the MI logo for about 4 minutes before the animation starts. I have used several ROMS and kernals and they all seem to do the same thing. I never had this issue with MIUI. Once the phone has booted, the phone is totally fine however I would prefer to identify and fix the problem. Any suggestions? I have already done a complete wipe, and tried various verions of TWRP with no joy. Thanks
I suggest you to flash the latest version of MIUI latest china dev, then from fastboot flash twrp, then clean flash rom + kernel. It takes about 30 minutes if you know what you're doing.
So basically restore then start from scratch? That did cross my mind... I will give it a go. Thanks. I will report back here.

Alright, im going to try that method and i will report my results here.
Followed all the steps within your guide, but that guide didnt work and has nothing to do with our slowboot issue.
Hardware related then

Didnt you change recently some parts of the phone? Like display/baterry and so...?
i think dat guy replaced display module
same problem here, touchscreen cant initialize on boot
4-5mins to go... all rooms.
to solve/ n - use old Santosh kernel, mm - use neon kernel, lp - elementalx
on this cores phone starts on 20-40s
and about recovery - use twrp+ 3.0.2-2 by mr_root

Dwnld links plzz..
Hay anybody here ...is there any other kernal for andriold n ROMs...

Mine to, it 2 time I had to replace screen. I'll give a test right now and report back.
Im not using the device anymore, but i think i had to replace the screen like 3-4 times, its very fragile, even a drop from small height makes it crack. Also without case its very slippy device, but none of that matters. From the 4 displays i used, which all have been touchscreen + lcd + the frame (as i dont like to glue the display, i pay 10 dollars more and its better) had that exact same problem, which is very long waiting for the device to boot. The custom kernel solved it, but another (probably better quality) display does solve it too.

Proximity sensor issue!

Hey, recently i've been having issues with the proximity sensor on my vince. This started a couple of days ago when i decided i wanna go back to miui from custom roms and i did a full fastboot reflash. So basically i flashed everything clean without locking the bootloader.
And now the proximity sensor went nuts. (it was working fine until i flashed the fastboot rom)
It works, but barely. I gotta put my finger really close to the screen for it to actually work. So if i'm in a call it's annoying, screen is staying on since my ear can't get that close to turn off the screen, unless i press it hard against my head.
I've tried recalibrating it from miui, i've tried flashing different version of miui rom (both in fastboot and recovery) with no avail.
Also, i've removed the tempered glass i had on it and i cleaned its surface.
Anyone had this issue? Can anyone give me some pointers?

Did that, i flashed a plethora of custom roms and nothing changed. I've read some stuff and maybe it's related to the persist partition, but i can't erase that in fastboot (something about image not being allowed to download), tho i can flash it. I've flashed the persist.img twice now, once with a developer stable rom and once with a simple stable rom. Still the same issue.

Have you tried wiping the cache after the first boot of the rom (custom / miui)..?
If above doesn't work, try to turn off auto brightness(if enabled) and then check if the sensor works on call....
