The live with workman has got a working light sensor. But the display options under settings menu doesn't offer an option for auto brightness. So the question is, is the light sensor active on stock Rom? And is there an Xperia model that offers this activation?

Unless there is a problem it is active and the problem is that you can't deactivate it without root. You can test it though by covering the sensor, i think is the biggest circle in the top front of your phone. If it is you will see the screen getting darker
The difference in screen light is really small that you almost don't notice it at all. And no, you can't enable auto brightness, LWW doesn't have that function.

Of Course,
i think the ambient light sensor is autobrightness
Maybe I'm too late but you can enable it with Tasker without root

Yep.. I tested in on ics .587 .. Screen dims or gets bright according to the ambient light... You can also do the service test to check that..

Yes but Sony made crap code to work with it
Yes Live With Walkman WT19i has Ambient Light Sensor, but Sony disabled it, I actually don't know why, the sensor works, but the code that Sony built seems to be very buggy on this since if you activate as wrote on this thread, it won't work as it should, most of the time, the screen will be very bright, what's not good for the screen and/or battery.

Yes, I'm also talking about the same thing.
Once you are used to the buttons, you don't have to SEE them to PRESS them
Even the power button, when it pressed, the transparent glass will illuminate...

Mini pro has four dots on the front top right?
The first one is led, the second proximity, the third is the camera.
So is the fourth one a light sensor?

Yep. When you have auto brightness enabled, try covering it and you'll notice that the screen brightness go up.

When I try any hardware info app, it says I don't have one. And only one I see is a dummy light sensor (cm) in hardware info (that's the app name I think)
Can't really see any difference when covering it up.

I tested it on the extended CM10 ROM by M66B and it was working perfectly.
BTW you don't have the auto brightness option in stock.

Shoudn't it be the other way around? As in when its dark brightness decreases?
Ps: for me covering it up does absolutely nothing.

Oops. Sorry for my mistake. Yep the brightness goes down in dark.
I have no clue as to why its not working for you as on my xmp it works absolutely fine. Its maybe because you dont have that feature in the rom you are on.

If you are using lupus jb v3 then you cant use the auto brightness feature as wedgess has disabled it in his kernel.
And auto brightness dosent work in the cm10 rom by fxp as its diabled. It works in the cm 10 extended rom by m66b with his extended kernel properly.

Thank you. will just have to forget it, will try the nexus rom after it's stable.
I just noticed that the themes other than default one(blue) have very dull colour display for quick settings in navigation bar. Is this some battery saving strategy?? or something else??

Do one thing check the screen shots on computer if they are looking good then your mobile display might be bad and if they are looking bad on computer display then it might be problem with firmware bug.
Just check and let us know.

thanks.. it means its by default and every z ultra user has the same theme contrast and colour??( somewhere dark and dull)
Yup, it's the theme colour combination which makes it different.
Chill and enjoy.

Its default in 510. Previous firmware has more saturated colors in their quick setting buttons. But the "softer" look in the 510 is better, in my opinion.
Yeah, it looks like Sony dimmed the colors a fair bit. Looks better now IMO since i'm not a fan of "neon" like colors (ala Samsung).
Really don't like new colors. Washed 10 times not just dimmed.

just tried out sony xperia z waterproof tablet, impressed with its features, more i dig i am finding more exciting. it even has swipe keyboard functionality! there is one big disappointment: next to galaxy, its display is no match, galaxy wins hands down. It does not even come close with its best display tweak.
One question is there a way to display numerics on top of keyboard? My 5.5 inch note ii managed to display it why not display numerics twice as big as smartphone? I would not like to switching back and forth between letters and numerals.
Wrong forum
Try to find a replacement keyboard from the market
This also should be in the Xperia Tablet Z forum.

Use Google Keyboard -> enable PC Layout. You'll have numbers above the letters just like a regular physical keyboard.
Got out working after few s. Thanks a lot ))
