[Q] Wifi switching to mobile data (and back) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everybody,
I'm facing an annoying problem: when my phone "considers" the wifi signal "too weak", it automatically switches to mobile data (even if the latter are disabled), the result is the mobile frequently drops the wifi connection in some places at home where the signal is a little less intense.
In my phone, options in the advanced settings of the Wi-Fi do not let me choose anything about automatic switching from wifi to mobile data (or such options aren't displayed)...
What can I do?
Is there a way to access "hidden" settings like the ones mentioned?
Thanks for your answers!

[Q] Mobile Data not reconnecting after WiFi drops

Hey all,
I have a very odd problem that is actually apparent in the HTC Desire forums by 2 other people. (found using the search that comes up when starting a new thread)
When I use my phone on WiFi the data is automatically turned off (I'm assuming because WiFi takes priority, however when WiFi drops, the data does not reconnect and I am left with just the reception bars for SMS/Calling.
To fix this I must either cycle aeroplane mode or go to Settings > Wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names > Vodafone Internet and then when I'm in the editing screen for that APN the data reconnects.
I have tried making a shortcut directly to the APN settings using LauncherPro activities shortcut but the data will only reconnect if I take the long way (or cycle aeroplane mode as it is a quicker fix)
Please help, this is very annoying as my data doesn't reconnect when I leave my home WiFi in the mornings until I notice it half way through the day.. missing many important emails
Thanks in advance.

u could use a widget to toggle the APN (extenedcontrols)
but i had the same problem on my old Desire from Telstra until it was updated to Froyo and then i never had the problem again.
What firmware version are you running? Also are you running Gingerblur, gladatrix or stock?
1.57 with gingerblur. Thanks for the tip about toggling the apn I will try that soon

Mobile Data Connectivity Issues

My Amaze is having some serious Mobile data (4g/2g) connectivity issues. The problem is this:
1. When turning the screen on, the notification bar shows no mobile data connection, regardless of how many bars I have. Mobile data connection is always enabled under quick settings, but for some reason the phone still can't establish a connection for quite some time, or until toggling mobile data on/off a few times.
2. After finally getting a connection, the phone has further problems connecting. Even though 4g/3g/2g icon is present on notification bar and mobile data is enabled in quick settings, using browser will return only "page not found" errors, and apps will not function properly due to them not having a network connection (foursquare and spotify most especially). Looking at the 4g icon on the notification bar, I can see the "up" arrow flashing as if the phone is sending data, but the "down arrow" is dead as a doornail, not lighting up or receiving anything back. This happens regardless of how many bars I have.
3. On the rare occasion that the phone's mobile data connection does work, it's super slow and acts more like 2g than 4g. Simple web pages take anywhere from around 30 seconds to a minute to load, and spotify cannot stream a song without having to buffer constantly.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Or had experience with it? Just in case your wondering, I haven't gone over my 5gb data plan yet (see attached image).
Issue resolved.
Apparently this problem is a combination of 2 glitches:
1. When upgrading to a new phone, despite how much data you used in your plan during the billing cycle, on the T-Mobile My Account website, the widget which shows how much data you've used will only reflect the data you've used on the currently activated device. Before I upgraded to the Amaze, I had exceeded my 5gb limit on my Nexus One and was being throttled by T-mobile to lower speeds. My next billing cycle doesn't start until Dec 27th, so despite the fact that I've only used about 70mb on my new Amaze, the 6 gb I already used on my Nexus One still counts for this month's billing cycle even though the T-Mobile website doesn't reflect it.
2. When throttling, the Amaze, which by default is set to WCDMA/GSM auto, is supposed to automatically switch itself off of 4g and only allow 3g/2g connections. It doesn't. For some reason, it stays with the 4g connection even though the connection is, at best, intermittent. This is the cause of the "page not found" errors and app network errors I was having.
So, for anyone else who is wondering how to remedy this, the fix is simple. Go into Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Networks>Network Mode, then tap "GSM only". This will cut off the problematic 4g connection while still allowing for 3g/2g connections. While noticeably slower (especially where I live, since the Florida panhandle only has 2g and 4g, no 3g), the mobile data connection is solid. Have yet to have any connection errors or experience any intermittency. Still, can't wait until the 27th when I can test out the full power of the 4g connection.

[Q] Intermittent Data Connection Loss

Here's my problem, the data connection will periodically not work (3G & WiFi still show and strength is not a factor, also no 4G in my area). My current workaround is to enable airplane mode and then disable it, if this does not work then I restart the phone (rare, but it has been necessary).
I have a completely stock VM CDMA ROM, S-ON, not rooted, all system updates have been applied, etc, since up to this point I've been content with what I have. When I go on to the internet with an app (shows connected) and I'll get an extended blank screen from the app I'm using before it tells me there is no internet connection. I'm at a loss as to what is happening, though I have noticed that it frequently occurs when I unlock my screen.

Data not working away from home

When I'm at home I have no problem using data on my Three SIM (when I'm using the Internet a lot I switch on WiFI but things like Discord and Whatsapp work fine when WiFi is disabled) but when I'm out I often can't use data, even though I have a good signal and the 3G/4G symbol is showing.
Sometimes it works if I switch the data to my other SIM (Asda), check that it's working and then switch data back to Three but not always. I've tried disabling the firewall (AFWall+) but I have a special Out profile I switch to when going out to allow data access to more apps than with my Home profile, so the firewall shouldn't be causing problems.
I've also tried setting Roaming to Always in the system settings but that doesn't seem to make any difference.
Clearly lots of people are using their Note 4's on 3G/4G without any problems, so any ideas why I'm having so much trouble?

Question Failing to switch to cellular data with "Mobile data always active" switched off

If I go into developer settings and switch off Mobile data always active (in an attempt to save a little power when the phone is on Wifi), I find the phone often doesn't enable data when I leave Wifi. I have to cycle airplane mode to make it do it.
Anyone else finding the same bug? Or even using this setting?
I've had dropped connection issues since day 1, with airplane mode being the only way to restore my connection. And this was with Mobile Data always active set to on.
Who is your Carrier??
Have you noticed similar issues even with mobile data always active?
When I go to building with no cellular and come back outside. The phone doesn't automatically reconnect to cellular, leaving me with no service. What a strange bug.

EE in the UK. Works fine almost all the time so far if I keep mobile data active.
Vodafone Romania, toggled the setting off in dev options as soon as I got the phone. Data switching works fine still.
Try going into the testing menu (dialer code *#*#4636#*#*), select phone information, select 3dot menu on top right corner, try switching around between Europe and automatic. I'm my case ,selecting Europe presented various weird connection issues , biggest of which was that the phone refused to connect to LTE unless I used "automatic".
