Hey everybody,
So I got Cyanogenmod 11 (the latest nightly) on my Nexus 5, and I use Nova Launcher Prime.
What I am trying to do right now is to get rid of the navigation buttons at the bottom completely (instead I use Pie Control)
So far I am using the expanded desktop mode, however, that doesn't work nearly as good as I hoped it would.
The problems are that a transparent NavBar appears quite often, when I use the keyboard they reappear and take space.
So far I tried to solve it with different launchers (but without success).
I tried to use apps like ultimate dynamic NavBar or GMD auto hide softkeys. All they do is put another layer of Navigation Buttons on top of the already existing Nav Bar (no idea why that happens).
I also tried to use Full!screen, and that worked pretty nicely, but the problem was that it always also disabled the status bar (which I want to keep).
I am that far and out of ideas, anyone who could help me?
Many thanks in advance
Open your root Browser and navigate to System > build.prop . Open the file, scroll all the way down and add this line: qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 OR remove this line if existing: qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
I do not guarantee for the first method^^ If none of them works or this is to difficult download "SoftkeyEnabler" from the Play Store (you can disable them with this app).

The first method works well on Nexus 5

Okay so I rooted my phone and have been having some fun with the pm disable <package name> command. I am wondering whether there is anyway to hide applications from the drawer but not completely disable them.
I have access to these apps on the home screen and don't need them taking up space on the drawer. Obviously this isn't that important, but I can appreciate good design and maybe this is possible (without a home replacement app!)?
Any help is appreciated
On some Roms you can hide these icons by opening the app drawer, long pressing on the icon you want to hide, dragging it onto the desktop (but dont remove your finger) and then when the app drawer closes, drag the icon to the trash.
Not all ROMs allow this but some do.

What you're referring to is the advanced launcher here is the link to it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540880
I think what the poster wanted was a stand alone way to do this without having to rely on one particular ROM or having to use any particular launcher/home replacement.

Advanced launcher is just an advanced version of the current home though. You would be able to use it and not even know that it's not the default launcher, it works exactly the same, looks exactly the same and behaves the same bar a few added features like folders in the drawer, hiding applications and setting the number of homescreens.
This thread is pretty old, but I can't find an answer to this question anywhere else. Is there any way to hide apps in the drawer? I have a rooted evo with sense. There must be a way someone has found by now!
Only way I know of is an alternate launcher. I use Launcher Pro and that allows hiding icons.

I want to do this too
it can be done from root explorer renaming app.apk to app.bak
but some will not work
Well there is this app and it seems to work as described with a ton of bonus features... Just make sure to restart you phone after hiding the apps to make it work.

Er. No it doesn't - it just hides files
Actually it does remove files and i just used it. After long pressing the "audio manager" logo it comes to menu with one icon being "hide apps". Click and select what to hide.

Hi all newbie here and did a few searches and tried to look for help but could not find right info, also I hope I am in the right spot to post so please feel free to tell me if I am not in the right place. Currently running ICS 4.0.4 up-to-date at time of writing on Vodafone Australia but I don't think the country of service provider is the problem. I have a problem with my 'Home Screen Dock' NOT THE 'Lock Screen Dock' I can change icons on the lock screens no problems, All the help, forums and videos on changing the 'Home Screen Dock' Icons say to simply drag, drop[ and replace. All i wanted to do is change the stock "Internet" Icon with Chrome. Dragged the internet icon of and went to drag the Chrome one on but I can't as instead of the dock staying visible like on some videos it changes to the Delete Icon option. Cant find settings please help. Also I do not want to use a 3rd party launcher. I tried Apex and do like it but I use widgets and can't use widgets as my phone is not rooted. Please help arrrgghhh. Thanks in advance.
PS . I just have a blankspot where my internet Icon use to be.
I am running JB at the moment, so can't tell you perfectly. But I remember having this situation before and I used menu-edit to change icons in dock. try that.
Or go into app drawer and navigate to page where chrome is then go menu-edit... pick chrome and try to bring it down on the dock.

Doing menu-edit changes the dock bar and give me the following 4 options to drag the icon on to.... "Create Folder" "Create Page" "File Info" "Delete".

Thanks for your reply...I had already tried this. The only difference is that now once you start to drag instead of the "Creat Folder" "Create Page" "File Info" and "Delete" it does the same but just with those as icons and no text.

Gonna go and get rooted the I can take full advantage of APEX Launcher.
Hi All,
Like StefsGalaxy, I've done a myriad of searches re: TouchWiz Shortcut Dock and thus have yielded no results, or at least nothing fluid anyway.
I guess it is a localised issue. i.e. AU Only. I'm with the Vodafone network but have seen posts the same from people who are on Telstra.
I've read a few threads on XDA RE: Modifying TouchWiz, and have been fairly successful. Said Mods have mostly been Column / Row modifications to allow for more icons on the HomeScreen and AppDrawer.
I'm interested to know if there is a way I can
A) Modify the application shortcuts on the dock (within the APK)
B) Undo the changes that Samsung have 'borked'
C) Revert to a pre-jelly bean version of TouchWiz (seclauncher2.apk) where the functionality to change the Apps still exists..
Perhaps if I could find seclauncher.apk from a 4.0.4 build (any directions on where are welcome), I could compare the differences between the two and re-compile for 4.1.1.
Any alternative suggestions that don't involve a complete ROM change or a new Launcher? (I quite like what I have)
Thanks in advance....
So im trying to get both my maps app and pandora or something else to open from a one click button on homescreen or nfc tag. I want them to open up in multiwindow mode one in each place.Has anyone saw this or knows how to do it? Im running Cleanrom 4.9with full access to multiwindow and root. Anyone have any ideas? would greatly appreciate it.
I realize this is an old thread, but, have you tried/used this? LOVING it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bjbinc.mwmphone
You'll need to know:
- It does not enable/turn Samsung's MW mode; it doesn't need to, but it's nice for it to be 'on' so you can resize windows.
- You'll call a shortcut to that app from within Tasker - scroll to the bottom of the list apps and you'll see the "Windows Shortcut (2 Apps)" listed.

Also, almost all of the kitkat TW roms for our phone have the ported Note 3/S5 multiwindow, which has 2 app shortcuts natively.
Hi Everyone,
I'm working on a project on android tablet, and I need to limit some android and device feature.
We wrote apps and specific launcher which can intercept a lot of intent to limit access, but with newer version of android (since kitkat)
our solution doesn't work anymore, and the user is able to quit the specific launcher or the launched app.
I need some advice, before developping a limited ROM.
Specs :
1 - Disable device action (LongPress on switchOff)
2 - Disable message notification (Low Bat, SignalLost, ...)
3 - Hide the navigation bar
4 - Preload apps / Remove some apps
The limitation, is justified by the fact that human mistake shouldn't fail the device and the running apps
For the points 1 and 4. I read some tutorial that mention how to reaffect actions for a keycode, and which apps can be deleted in system/apps.
I need your help for point 2 and 3.
Thanks

For #3, one easy way is to disable SystemUI. This will get rid of the status bar and navigation bar, and disable recents. It may also solve #2, though I'm not 100% sure.
Just make sure to DISABLE SystemUI (i.e. from Settings->Applications), don't delete it. Disabling will stop the app itself from starting but allow it to be available for other apps which need it to exist. Deleting may cause your device to fail to boot.
Thank you so much kived, thats a good hint you gave me
I will test this in the few days, and try to disable this automatically after boot.
After that I'll just have to limit access to settings app to avoid user to enable it.
Will I have to deodex the ROM and replace the default settings.apk by mine ? or just adding settings.apk in app and android will launch mine.
Thx

Hi,
I got a used OnePlus 7T Pro, because it was a better choice for me in many ways than new phones. I just absolutely love the screen.
But I was trying to find out, how to make actually everything fully use it. Afaik there used to be a way on A10, that is no longer working.
So I searched the whole week how to hide the status bar, and in the end decided to even root and try various Magisk modules, or EdXposed/GravityBox stuff, pretty much anything I could find because many people reported "status bar height = 0" to do the job. But it really doesn't.
It allows to hide the *contents* of the status bar, BUT the space there is still covered by an ugly bar that apps (browser, whatsapp, anything) aren't drawing over. And that looks even worse than having clock+battery present honestly :'(
So I am desperately trying to search for ANY way to accomplish a fullscreen experience. Does anyone know of one?
I actually like the stock OxygenOS personally. But at this point, I'm willing to hop on any good quality custom rom that would allow it.
(I am even considering somehow downgrading to A10, but would absolutely prefer not to).
I can't believe people here aren't all over this / that everyone with 7/7T pro didn't already do everything in their power to accomplish a full system-wide fullscreen experience. So, desperately pleading anyone, is there some Rom/Mod/Module allowing this?
Thanks
Oh, one additional thing: I noticed, that when changing the option under
Settings -> Developer -> Display Cutout
The status bar (and the reserved space around it) actually does change and move up/down for various options. The "Waterfall Cutout" makes the bar significantly narrower, and apps are properly respecting it (= being drawn a bit higher) too. Which gives me some hope.
There is an installable Magisk module called "None Display Cutout" from here:
[Remove display cutout][ROOT] Full screen 21:9 for apps in landscape, incl Netflix.
Requirements: Magisk root. Download and install the "None Display Cutout" in the Magisk managers module repo. It will add an option in developer settings display cutout options, "No Display Cutout". Choose it, and apps, including netflix, will...

These just don't try to accomplish complete status bar disappearance, but they touch on the "Display Cutout" settings in some way. So they *could... maybe* be modified to make the status bar completely disappear? Since they alter the overall display bounds even on Android 11 successfully.
Honestly, those 2 are the most promising directions I stumbled upon, but I personally don't know how to modify them to do what I want (= shrink the whole status bar area to 0 pretty much)

I too am desperately looking everywhere having hidden the status bar for years and can't find any way to hide it anymore did you find anything that works? i'm rooted with magisk
I am sorry to say that I gave up. If you have energy to be dealing with this still and manage to find a good solution, pls ping me, but otherwise I'm now in peace with not being able to get rid of it Wish I could help but I tried for some time and just didn't find anything fully working.
Fullscreen immersive app can do this and I think Apex launcher can hide this too
I was aiming for getting rid of the status bar everywhere, in photos, twitter, maps, browser etc, not just homescreen (Apex).
And any "immersive apps" that sort-of work only manage to hide the time+notifs+battery from the status bar, but actually retaining the status bar itself :'(( Aka, any app starts drawing only under the area where the status bar always is. So I don't see the battery+time there, but I see an empty space - at that point it's just better to have the time there as normal, it just looks bad when simply empty :-|
Afaik the "immersive app" only work "properly" on the older android versions that support immersive mode, which newer androids don't (((

androplus wrote a magisk module that hides the status bar in MIUI. I'm not sure if it will work on other devices or not but it works on my Mix Fold 2. definitely worth trying. search the mix fold 2 forum for the link
I own OnePlus 7 Pro and I spent 2 months trying to find the solution. Status bar... I hate it too. So... it will be hit or miss for every app, but (for example Google photos is crashing with it) ... If your phone is rooted and you have installed Magisk:
Download and install LSPosed Framework modul (Zygisk version should be better)
In LSPosed Framework->Repository->Search->App Settings Reborn and enable it.
In App Settings Reborn choose any app you wanna tweak to eliminate Status Bar and then click on the wheel at bottom right corner. Now, you will have to go app after app to tweak it. Choose one and enable tweaking at left top corner. These three options are your new friends: auto hide fullscreen, no title and fullscreen.
Just don't be me... don't forget to stop app you are tweaking or it will not work immediately and don't forget to save the settings you chose by clicking on that floppy disk. And as I wrote earlier, some apps will behave weird and some will crash. Have fun.
