[Q] Rename Photo/Video Files by Date Taken - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have about 2000 photos and videos Im trying to get sorted in the order I took them. Problem is Ive used different phones or camera apps to take them. So I have files named IMG2013, 2013_, VID2013, etc. I have tried QuickPic and their sorting options with no luck. I also tried the Fix Date feature and that didnt do it either.
Is there an app or a way to use the EXIF date taken and rename them according to that? I dont have the patience to go file by file. I have the pics on the SD card and on my Computer so I would think there are options to batch rename them.

Bump!

Replace the stock Gallery?

I hated when Android made the move to the 3d gallery. Anyone know where I can get the old version, and if replacing the current gallery will work with it?
I'm hunting down old roms and backups on my external hd now.... curious if others have replaced the 3d gallery.
Please give input!
I found this from CM 5.0.7... which I think is not the 3d gallery. Will wait till I hear from others before I go replacing..... I'm thinking if I use root explorer and move the stock gallery to my sd (for a backup) and drop this is system/app I should be good to go after a reboot... thoughts?
EDIT: SUCCESSFULLY REPLACED THE CALENDAR (IN MY STICKY THREAD), BUT NO DICE WITH THE GALLERY... NO .ODEX FILE I GUESS? WAS NOT SHOWING IN THE APP LIST. SORRY FOR THE CAPS, JUST DIDNT WANT PEOPLE GOING CRAZY WITH THE ATTACHED FILE.
i say do it
i been replacing everything in my vibrant*de-t-mobiled*
just dont delete the file you replace so if it doesnt work just move it back into system/apps folder you wont know till you try hell i bricked my phone once now know how to not do what i had done last time.
please wait 2 seconds for an uncompressed image, or press Ctrl+F5 for original quality page
I guess this would work if I flashed a deodexed stock rom.... anyone know how to swing this stock?
I cant let this die... suggestions?
Correct me if Im wrong but couldnt you just download a G1 rom running 2.1 or 2.2. Most of these roms have BOTH the old Gallery and the new Gallery installed.
This is how I would go about doing it as I like the Picasa functionality of the new gallery. It would just seem better to have both giving you a choice of better image quality on zoom in the old gallery and Picasa integration in the new gallery.
Should just be able to decompile the APK for the old gallery and rename it to Gallery2d or what not, change the icon and you're set.

You should be able to look at how this was done in Chromatic

Im really not big on the 3D gallery either, and thats mainly because 1) i had a mytouch and a mt3gs so it wasnt the smoothest... 2) i have certain directories thats are "private" and its not cool having them popup with mutliple pics.. haha
But on the Vibrant there was so much good to the phone that it outwieghed the gallery thing. Id like a 2D gallery, but I like the Picasa integration too and also wonder how the Camera would get involved with a 2D gallery.

This is a simple fix. Because you are using android you can hide folders in the same way that you do on any Linux system. Simply open your file manager, Astro should work well for this, find the folder of shameful pics, choose to rename it and simply add a period "." to the beginning of the folder name. So if the folder was called shameful-pics the new folder name would be .shameful-pics.
Now that your folder is hidden, the gallery should not pick it up. If you want to view the images simply open Astro back up and brows to that folder and use the Astro photo viewer to see the pics.

Hide Pics

In the Amazon Apps thread the free app today is PhotoVault. Someone reported an issue with the app, so I thought I would point this out as an easy way to hide pics (most of you already know this, apologies if you do).
The video goes on and on, basically you just go to the folder in the DCIM folder and add a period in front of the folder name.... any photo you do not want to show in your gallery (for whatever reason) just add to this folder, or rename multiple folders. You can still access the files using your file manager.

[Q] cached images

How do I find the cached images for recieved pics in yahoo messenger?
I checked everything on my SD card, but when I use root explorer to pull for .jpg on the phone, i get hundreds if not thousands of hits with no way to preview other than one at a time. I hope there is an easier way.
I downloaded several pics, but didnt think to change the names...they each came through at different times and were all called "image" so i guess they were over written, but isnt there a cached image of every picture viewed whether I saved them or not?
Thanks for your help.

Photo management?

I recently got my EVO 4G LTE, and have been playing with it quite extensively, as well as searching around here to find answers to what I haven't been able to figure out.
There are a few things with the camera and how it handles images that have me wondering:
1) I have shot quite a few photos in 'burst' mode. Now, on my SD card, I have a '100BURST' and a '100MEDIA' folder, with a folder in the burst directory for every set I have ever taken, even if I have deleted all the images in the collection. Is it safe to delete these folders, and what is the point on them?
2) I want to import all my old photos and videos (from my OG EVO) onto the phone, but placing them in the 100MEDIA folder will override many of the new images I have taken as they are using the same name. Is there somewhere to set the naming convention used? I see that several of my old images are using 'IMG_20120519_010400.jpg' method (from when I had MIUI ICS installed). Is there a way to switch to this naming, as it is basically 'IMG_' then the year, month, date, '_', and time? This would help keep the images in chronological order.
Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can give me...
You can move your photos over with no problem. I just transferred my old SD Card from my Evo 3D to my EVOLTE. Obviously I got rid of all the files that no longer pertain to the EVOLTE.
Additionaly, if you erase the burst folder, it will automatically create another one as soon as you take burst photos.

Well as far as your first question, if there are no images in the folders they should be ok to delete. The camera app will probably just recreate them if it has too.
Second question. You are better off placing the images on your computer and using an application to rename your images to whatever you want. You could easily do this with adobe Lightroom. You can download the free trial which should be more than enough time (30 days) to what you need especially if you ha e lots of images to rename. I'm sure there are other alternatives like maybe Google's picasa. But I use Lightroom and it will do exactly what you want.

[Q] Dropbox renaming pictures

So i have been using the auto upload of images since the start of the year. I decided i would just double check that all my images got uploaded just in case..
I take a look at my drop box and at my phone and all the images are named differently
For example
Phone:IMG_20120207_154821.jpg
Dropbox:2012-02-07 21.48.20.jpg
That is the same picture but named way differently.....
Not sure how to clean this mess or get rid of dupes without deleting some singles etc.....
All 2,000 pictures and videos are named differently like that.
*EDIT*
after some better google searches i see others having an issue with this...
