I want to flash TWRP on my Optimus L9 p765. Should I unlock the bootloader first before this flashing?
Thanks!

Please use XDA's search feature before making threads. This is covered, numerous time throughout the L9 forums.
To answer -
Short, yes. Long, you cannot flash a custom recovery to a device with a locked bootloader.
There is a 2nd-init CWM that can be installed on devices with a locked bootloader. It must be installed with the L9RecoveryInstaller_1.5.0.apk. Search and you'll find it. If you decide to try unlocking your bootloader I wish you the best of luck. Many of us have failed miserably.

I think, you have locked boot loader & stock kernel ?
and that rom required unlocked boot loader & V3 kernel !

i have just bought new phone don't want to loose warranty as early as possible may be later i may dare to unlock it
i love developers who makes world look better place.. i am frequent visitor of xda from my first windows mobile since 3-4years ..
but i had very bad experience with z71 android handset which gave me lot of pain but i made full use of warranty period because there was no unlocking ..! just flashing lots of custom roms ..
but xperia is different i think i have to gain more confidence to start flashing.. because there will be no warranty once unlocked...
When you feel confident, you can Unlock you device by any method you prefer, follow the guide by following link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409269
P.S, using official method to unlock the boot loader, you will void your warranty, but using XDA method you will have option to relock the boot loader again
Hope, this will help

you're welcome,
that means you are qualify to unlock your boot loader,
its not Pre-Unlocked !
if it shows No, that means you cannot unlock boot loader due to Manufacturer restrictions.
invoices presone
my phone is already rooted can i oerclock by setcpu without unlocking or do sommething etc
I think, overclocking need other then stock Kernel, check Kernels thread, which suit your overclocking need.

[Q] CWM and root with locked bootloader?

maybe this is stupid question, but i must ask you; Is it possible to root and install CWM on locked bootloader? And maybe can i install custom roms like Cyanogenmod on locked bootloader?

All versions of the L9 are currently rootable. See link below on how to root.
What device do you have and what firmware is it running? You may or may not be able to install custom ROMs based on this.
This guide works for locked and unlocked bootloaders: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465
It also mentions CWM installation (Step 12)
Just FYI, there are multiply threads on the L9 broken down by category: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2072
In the future, hopefully this will narrow down your search

[Q] How are people flashing on the VZW LG G3?

Hey guys, I recently downgrade from the latest OTA to 10b via the TOT method and worked great. I rooted the device and then went ahead and "unlocked" the bootloader via the Bump method. I've recently read the threads and 'ish went down. I want to flash a rom on my VZW LG G3, but I don't see any "Bumped" roms. I'm assuming I can't flash anything then? Any assistance on this? Is there an alternate method to flash roms than the Bump unlock method? I appreciate the responses!
If you already bumped your G3, you should be able to boot into TWRP recovery. From there you can flash roms . Just read the OP of each rom developers prereq for further details on their rom. FYI, you should have post this into Q&A section. good luck.
Practically all ROMS available are "bumped" and ready to flash. Just boot into recovery and start flashing. I personally use flashify to boot into recovery. It's easy than the other method.
Just stick to Roms in the vzw g3 android development areas and you should be fine.

Yeah I did. I used the TOT method. Pretty straight forward.
Thanks for the responses. I just wanted to make sure that using the Bump method didn't affect my ability to flash any VZW rom.
Bump does not unlock the Verizon G3. It does nothing at all to the phone. It is applied to things like TWRP so they will appear to be signed with LG keys and be allowed to load. Non stock firmwares and kernels and recoveries must be changed by the bump method to look like they are officially signed. They all are, if you find them discussed here.
The bump method could be broken in any future update, so avoid OTA's at all costs.

[Q] Question about Bump

Hello,
[Okay i'm going to be quite honest, i might sound like an idiot on my post haha.] I just got my LG G3 and i've already root'd and got twrp and everything but i just saw a thread about bump and "Unlocking your LG G3" and having to do with Bump. I'm curious does that mean you can unlock your phones sim?? lol i might sound like an idiot or does it mean that we can now flash roms from lets say the GSM model of the G3 or roms from the Verizon model etc. This isn't a troll post i'm just that stupid lol. Anyways if someone can help me get a better understanding of this Bump software.
Does it mean unlocked bootloader? omg lol im an idiot..
Well as of right now there is no bootloader unlock. Bump is just a modified version of twrp for our device. The normal twrp from the twrp website works fine its mostly on prefrence. Before we had offical twrp we had to bump but now you can use either.
Sorry but can you explain what a bootloader is and why its important? Sorry for being stupid ?
No problem! (I have no problem with helping if you want you can PM me)
a bootloader is code that is executed before any Operating System starts to run. Boot loaders are basically packages that have instructions to boot the operating system kernel.
Bootloader are bad because it makes it much much much hard to run custom roms (custom os) and kernels. That is why we have bump it pretty much goes around the face that the bootloader is locked. If someone got ours unlocked then you can make roms a lot easier.
One a nexus for example once you unlock the bootloader you can install custom roms such as cm. Since ours is locked devs have to make the rom then they have to go and "bump" it that way the bootloader doesn't get flagged and brick itself.
Alrightthanks for clarifying that. I didnt know that the LG G3's bootloader was still locked, i guess thats why i see alot of rom threads being closed for the G3
Maybe if we (ls990 users) made a bounty someone may "find" a way to unlock our bootloader

To be clear, "normal" TWRP works fine because it has been "bumped." Without Bump there would be no way to load a non-stock recovery.
Bump, while not a true bootloader unlock , is a work-around that provides pretty much the same benefits. Without it, you would not be able to flash any custom recovery, and without a custom recovery you'd be unable to flash any custom ROMs.
Thank you for more clarification

LG G5 VS98730a custom rom

I just upgraded my LG G5 to Oreo and want to root using a custom rom. Does anyone know if there has been an official custom Oreo rom released for the LG G5 Verizon model and if not when one might be available. I would like to mention that I am a new to rooting.
If you want to root your phone or install a custom rom, you need to unlock the bootloader first.
Look at this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/official-european-lg-g5-h850-bootloader-t3363040
if the LG website doesn't give you the unlock.bin file, you can't root and not even install a custom rom.

How do I unlock the bootloader and where can I find the unlock.bin file on LG's website?
Verizon locks the bootloader and you can't unlock it so no twrp or root or custom rom
