[Q] [q] Best version for mediapad 30x - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

Hi everyone, after seeing a mammoth 6 to 8 new downloads, can anyone give the best advice and experience:
1. Which is their favourite
2. What does not work in 1 above
3. In the most recent versions bluetooth does not work, can we therefore save the relevant libs-etc-files from a working version, and replace them
4. Does anyone still have the old HWMOD overclocked version, to use as base before trying 1 above
5, Although this has been asked before, how can we repartion the ex SDCard successfully on 301.
Unfortunately I cant post on the developer threads, but I do assure you I have read all of them - approx 750 threads including androidiani.
Many thanks and kind regards to all, and moreso to those who can clarify the above!!!!
:highfive:

To add more to the only debate on this issue, Q_ and A.
Ok We have around 201309 10.1 or 10.2 around the same date the CM version , there is a KitKat release and AOKP.
Saw the thread with a lot of replies concerning the CM 10.1 release and " who likes it". B.T. working, HDMI issues etc etc.
However , given that many , posters seemed to appreciate the 10.1 version , nearly all could not post on the developer thread due to min 10 posting restriction.
So here I am again, asking , which of the original ROM´s, and new ICS, JB or KK versions are the most appropriate for this Mediapad 301 as far as anyone has experience.
The last entry on After_Silence V 10.1 General thread, seems to suggest that CM10.1 201309 is probably the best bet so far, however the KitKat or CM10.2 OR Evervolv, may have evolved since then, anyone any ideas.
Furthermore , given that CM10.1 offers /data/media does this mean I can actually use my Ext. sdcard, instead of filling my measly 5GB sdcard
Any help most appreciated, including any other tips on other versions specific to the Mediapad 301xxx

Which one is the best? (There's a twist to this question - read inside) :)

Hello everybody,
To be honest, I haven't been reading the rules recently but I realized from one other topic that asking for ROM recommendation here is the forbidden thing...
Therefore, dear moderator and/or admin, before you pull the trigger and delete or lock this topic, please read this post till the end. Who knows, maybe it survives...
Having in mind that P7500 and P7510 had very limited official distribution of ICS for some reason, majority of users of Tab 10.1 are still at Honeycomb (yours truly as well).
I have definitely decided to make a move and do something about that but I need a bit of a help. A guidance, clarification and simplification of what are my choices.
Is it possible to make a kind of overview of the current Android versions offer for this specific tablet? What I'm aiming at is the short summary of which functions/features are buggy/unavailable under which Android versions. So, I am not asking for recommendation of the particular ROMs, but the version of Android I should pursue.
To summarize: Could you help me select the appropriate version of Android (v4, v4.1 or v4.2) for Tab 10.1 by pointing out what does not work (properly) in them?
Thank you very much for helping!
Bye!
We hear you.I will not delete it or lock it.
But hey look how the... we are moving as we speak incredible

I'm researching this exact question for a frend who just recieved one of these tablets. I'd definitely be interested in seeing something like this. (Actually, it'd be awesome to see a comparo/feature list for Roms for all the individual devices here on xda)
I ABSOLUTELY hate it when developers writes "You tell me" in the Bugs section of the first post of ROM threads. The only way to know if the ROM suitable for me is to try it out, and this is hard for some people who are always pretty busy in their lives. Of course, you can read the posts to find out the bugs, but sometimes that doesn't help much. It would be much easier if the developers just list the bugs in current version of the ROM (these are often told by users), and update the post when the bugs fixed.
Suggest a suitable ROM
Suggest a suitable ROMs, that are available for my TAB 10.1 (WiFi + GSM) in 4.1.1 / 4.1.2/ .......
I really do not understand the abbrv... P4, P4wifi, p4tmo, p4vzw, only for GSM or only for wifi
Now I am using "JellyBeanRom ICS v7 + A1 Kernel V1.8.3 + Voice Call Enable Stock ICS 4.0.4 ROM Build 1
Thank you for allowing us to ask such questions

p4 = WiFi + 3G (some call it the international release / global release version of Tab 10.1) aka P7500
p4wifi = WiFi only version aka P7510
p4tmo = T-Mobile version
p4vzw = Verizon Wireless version
Suitable ROMs depends on u mainly... I am using the same ROM as what u are using right now.

I hate that too...but sometimes, not everyone face the same problems/bugs. Not everyone have bugs. Some may have the bug that u have, some may not be having it. Unless the devs themsleves are facing it then it'll be listed. If not, then it should be fixed. But, if u are facing any bugs even when in the OP says there is no bugs, just ask for assistance then. Hence. the "You Tell Me" statement in the bugs section. :good:

[Q] Another Phone's ICS ROM (Tegra 2)

Dear Gods and Mortals,
I've just joined XDA a few minutes ago, and am about to post for the very first time.. Please be gentle to a certified n00b..
Anyway, I've learned a lot reading articles here in XDA, and I think it's time I give back, and hope my 3 cents worth would be of any help..
I'm using an Atrix MB861, and just like you guys, am frustrated with Motorola for not sharing ice cream with us..
I have also read that the ICS ROMs of Samsung Galaxy R i9103 and LG Optimus 2x are not useful in the effort of improving ICS and JB efforts for the Atrix.
After sifting through some Chinese websites, I've come across ZTE U970 (Mimosa, Grand), which may have similar specs with the Atrix. Maybe some dev can try disassembling it for some usable kernels or whatchoo-choos.
They have posted on their website a JB/ICS ROM update. (Sorry, as a n00b cannot post links)
So, is it of any use? I really someone checks it out whether it's legit.
Thank you for your time and for bearing with a n00b post.:silly:
doqmyk
PS: presently using epinter's (THANK YOU:good CM10.1.. fast, stable, very usable.. just no mic and poor cam.
PS2: Also, can anyone tell me how to click the so-called "ThankYou" button? I use IE10 and FF Beta, but I see no "Thank You button"..
This has already been discussed, the only kernel that passed the tests to run on the Atrix was the kernel of the Galaxy R that is currently being ported by our devs.
Hi,
I have localy almost all tegra2 devices kernels. Also ZTE Grand's one. I'm using them as reference. ZTE uses same method of lcd panel init, LG has similar method of tegrapart use (mmc partition offset), Xooms has similar (older) PMU. Each one is helpful, yet none is compatible enough to be used on it's own. Since getting JTAG uart we can work on any kernel, so galaxy/xoom only kernel is no longer valid (just for clarification).
If you check the website download, they have the NEW TEST ROM 4.1 JB version. As I reviewed the old XDA posts, it only points to the old 4.0 stock ROM with 2.6 kernel, NOT the new Test ROM.
Maybe we can download the NEW 4.1 ROM and see if we can analyze it for stuff we can use or modify, as Atrix and U970 comes from the same AP20/AP25 Tegra2 Family. Who knows, they might have a working 3.x kernel on their NEW test ROM..
Still hoping ang believing...
Reading the much older posts (Aug 2012), many (readers, not the Devs) seem to shoot down the idea of using the built-in drivers in these ROMS without actually trying to crack or use it first.. Better try NOW, as Moto ICS upgrade is a dream. Now, because it's a matter of principle. Now, because the longer the time, the more new powerful cheaper phones arrive to distract us away from our principles..:crying:
Anyway, enough of the yada-yada. If anyone is interested in the latest Jelly Bean ROM of U970 (Nov 29 2012), and the latest updated ICS ROM of Hisense T96 (Sept 2012), here they are:

Any suggestions for my requirements?

Before we begin: this thread is not about asking for users to comment which is the best rom or which is the worst! I am just asking for suggestions of which roms should I test in order to find out answer on my own.
So, I have had various roms, like neatrom, cm11, omnirom, whatever. The main problem with unofficial roms is instability. So, I am asking for your suggestions which roms should I test out in order to find a rom which is:
stable (very important since most of the roms are very unstable)
as new as possible (talking about android version, not rom's release date)
~good battery life (at least sort of good)
still has support (new releases, updates, etc)
Any ideas?
Recently I have tried android 4.2.2 CM 10.2 stable. It's far from stable: phone sometimes randomly freezed...
Also, tried various kitkat roms. Its obvious why I am no longer using them...
Neatrom / 4.1.2 is extremely laggy (comparing to, for example 4.2.2). So I sort of hate it too.
Rom suggestion threads are also forbidden.
Mod Edit
Word it in any way you like,it is still not allowed.
Please test these things for yourself.
This is the only way you will get an unbiased opinion, and then, you can decide for yourself if it meets YOUR needs.

Seeking for a rather recent CM release that fully supports Bluetooth Phone Call !

palmbeach05 said:
CM dropped official support due to kernel stability issues. I remember we were discussing ROMs. 7.2 was, according to CM, the last stable version. Due to all the changes when everything became 4.0, the kernel became unstable on our device. Our devs have created a kernel that is stable enough for daily use, but not stable enough for an official CM. You do have CM9, 10, 10.1, 10.2, and 11 that are stable. CM12 needs work before being recommended for daily use.

Thanks for the information, glad to see that i can still get support for this device. :good:
I'm trying to get general information for the last 2 days, reading especially the Q&A and development sections in the forum . If i understood correct;
* There's a new kernel being developed named as [KERNEL] [3.1.10] as you mentioned in your post. This new kernel seems nearly perfect, it just has these 3 downsides regarding the given information on its own topic:
1) HDMI [post-poned] (Nvm, I don't need it)
2) Fingerprint ROM Libs+Framework [work in progress] (Nvm, I don't need it)
3) Flash [work in progress] (Camera flash? It would be nice, but still not mandatory for me)
So i thought i could try the newest unofficial CM releases based on this new kernel. I checked the most-used ones in the development section for CM11, CM10.1, CM10, CM9. But i learned a very disappointing thing in the posts. If it's true, although bluetooth is operable for data transfer, it is NOT working for voice, meaning that i won't be able to use it in my car. :crying:
Other negatives are not that important, but GSM calls over bluetooth is very necessary for me. Because it's a security issue, as most of all need to use our phones while driving! So i regrettably had to eliminate the CM Roms which use this new kernel for now!
I need a Rom that is stable enough and has a wide hardware support such as necessarily:
1) Calls over bluetooth
2) GPS
3) Wi-fi tethering (USB tethering is not important)
Plus; android version must be new enough to support some of the applications. I found out that i need at least CM10 (Android v4.1) for the applications that i need to install.
At the end i can summarize my choices as follows:
* CM7.2 based Roms: All of them seem very stable, but some of my applications doesn't work on Android 2.3, so negative.
* CM9 based Roms: New kernel or not, Android v4.0 is old for a few of my applications. So, negative.
* CM10 based Roms: "CM10 (JellyBean) for Atrix" from @epinter seems very appropriate for me. It doesn't use the new kernel and Android v4.1 is sufficient (recent enough) for my applications. POSITIVE
* CM10.1 based Roms: "CM 10.1(Android 4.2) for Atrix" from @epinter could be very good, but it uses the new kernel. So, negative.
* CM11 based Roms: "CM 11 ( Android 4.4.4 ) for Atrix (BigPart)" from @Zn7mkUKzN1r8aCIV would be perfect, but i think it also uses new kernel, as it's indicated that ".BT phone call" is NOT working. So, negative.
* CM12 based Roms: I saw the "Mokee For Atrix 4g (Android L 5.0.2) (preview)", but as you see, it's not an option for me yet. So, negative.
If i didn't misunderstood what i've read till now, the most appropriate Rom seems;
"CM10 (JellyBean) for Atrix, By epinter" for me.

I think it would be better for me to continue on its own Q&A thread, I don't want to ruin this CM7.2 thread anymore.
Please share your opinions, i really need your advises.
EDIT: Oopss, basic kernel on CM10 seems lacking HW acceleration. So, i can't play NFS Most Wanted, Dead Space, Max Payne etc. games properly, right? What about navigation apps like iGo, Sygic, etc?
EDIT: This post was originally in the "CM7 Q&A" section and moved here as a seperate thread. My aim is not to find the "Best Rom ever" etc., i just seek for a Rom that's similar to the current awesome CM7, which fits my needs. I think i could find the best title for this post.

[noob questions] ROM/Kernel - building/porting

I’ll start by admiting that, in the arts of cooking/building/porting android innards, I’m closer to being a complete noob than na intermediate user.
I own a Newman K1S, JB 4.2.2, MT6592, 2Gb/16Gb, 720p, and, sadly for me, it looks like the manufacturer (Newman Mobile, or Newsmy, who knows) pretty much disavows any knowledge of this model ever being built or sold. No reference to it, no community, no android updates or ROM releases.
Taking into account some MediaTek source codes for KitKat were made available earlier this year (even if unofficially), I was wondering:
So, question number 1 – Is it possible to build android 4.4 for my device straight from said sources? Or are they unreliable and it would be best not to attempt it?
And question number 2 – Being at the noob level, should I stay away from such a task? And, in this case, would I be better off porting a 4.4 ROM from a similar spec’ed device?
Also, while browsing needrom, I noticed that a 4.4 “official” ROM was posted for my device. However, having flashed it, I found that it produces no sounds from the external speaker (although with headphones it works fine). Same thing was experienced by other users, and there is no fix so far.
Which takes me to question number 3 – What may I try, in order to fix an issue like this? Does KK use the same sound drivers as JB, and maybe it’s only a matter of replacing them? (if so, I believe this is within my grasp, even if I must unpack the IMG files to reach the drivers)
Lastly, Newman K1S has a severe overheating problem when pushed, which I believe would be easily solved by underclocking it to 1.3 or 1.5, or maybe implementing an optimized kernel.
Final question – How do I manage to underclock with my current kernel, or, better yet, how do I port a custom, optimized kernel to my device?
Congratulations to everyone who managed to read this far, and thank you in advance for any help provided. I’ve spent the last few days reading tutorials and guides, only to become even more confused… I did manage to get android kitchen running on my Windows laptop, though!
Links to recent/updated guides that might be useful are appreciated, too.
