Has anyone used a 3rd party SMS/MMS application (ie Handcent, GoSMS, Textra, 8sms, etc etc) to use send/receive MMS over WiFi Calling WITHOUT ANY DATA? I'm in an area where I can only use WFC, and all of my 3rd party SMS apps simply will not send or receive MMS over WiFi Calling without using the stock app.
Is there a solution?
And I repeat, NO DATA, no wifi = no service, so if you have a solution, make sure it's not quietly turning on data, sending the MMS, then going back to wifi, because that's not going to work as there is no cell service in this location.
Thanks.

Hey, I understand your needs. I work in a place where I have NO cell coverage at all and WiFi-Calling is the only way I can stay connected. I really don't like using 3rd party messaging apps so I'm not sure I have a solution for your needs in regards to 3rd party apps. But I know the stock messaging app on UVMC6 (stock 4.1.2 for T989) can send mms over wifi-calling. I'm guessing you are using a 3rd party app because the stock app doesn't do something you need/you don't like it. If you don't like it then there's nothing I can do. If you don't like the stock messaging app because you need...say group messaging? Well I might be able to help you. I actually just finished a write up on enabling group messaging on stock UVMC6. Here is the link. Let me know if you find this helpful. The stock messaging app has been modified by T-Mobile to allow MMS to be sent via wifi-calling...since wifi-calling is so baked into the ROM I really don't think 3rd party messaging apps will be able to send mms via wifi-calling.

Don't know what the issue is but I can't send or receive texts. I'm using stock text app, not hangouts. APN looks right, any ideas?
Are you rooted or running a custom ROM? You try toggling airplane or clearing the data/cache from the messaging app in settings?
Idiots at att didn't provision for texting.
After updating to kitkat and using the stock messaging app I can no longer send MMS messages over WiFi I read somewhere that the messaging app should disable wifi and use data in this case, but it doesn't and its extremely annoying, any help would be appreciated.
I just figured out an issue that was driving me crazy. If you use any 3rd party texting apps and have wifi calling enabled, you can't send or receive mms messages. This includes Hangouts. Want to text that pic, you have to disable wifi calling.
Now I need a realistic solution, other than use stock messaging or disable wifi calling.
Now that lollipop is installed, I no longer see a preview for sms messages in notification bar (just an icon). The option is selected, and I even tried the popup option, but that doesn't work either. I jet her sound and see icon.
I would actually like to try either Google sms or hangouts, but mms never work. I'll take suggestions for that too.
Try replacing stock text app with Textra, close to the same, adds emojis support, with add-on from Google Play.

Try force stoping it, or try wiping cache in recovery that may fix it. Google messenger is the best alternative sms app that I could find.
Would love an alternative but mms seems to be a big issue. Three Apps and no mms
Just FYI,
There is this issue in the Android issue tracker about turn mobile data automatically in lollipop. The API that turned on mobile data was removed in lollipop. So, SMS/MMS apps can't turn on mobile data automatically to receive MMS. Since there isn't any kind of notification of MMS when mobile data is off, you will never know when you receive a MMS if you have mobile data off.
Here is the link for the issue: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=81891
So i have had the vivo 5 for a couple weeks now. I dont like the app drawer did zenui and thats great. My next headache is the mms while on wifi at home. If i text anyone a pic or a group message while i am on wifi it does not automatically switch back to data instead it fails. I have to actually turn off wifi wait for it to send and then turn back on my wifi. Is there a setting i am missing or is this a bug in the messenger app? Can it be fixed in the short term till developers build custom roms for it?
Otherwise i love the phone. I have another question but will post it in a separate thread.
Mms working fine for me, might be my 3rd party texting app (textra). Try messenger or another 3rd party sms app, might fix the problem.
I downloaded textra. It did not work until I turned on T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling fix. This feature turned off my Wi-Fi while I sent and received mms and turned it right back on after. So awesome. So is there a catch with this app? Will I get lots of ads or what not?
I just got a Vivo 5 and i don't see that issue and i am on T-Mobile as well, is it possible some other installed app is causing the issue?
I'm also using Textra because of this issue.
