Yes. @freeza, can you post a quick step through of how to grab the zip without installing the update? That way, those getting the notice can grab it instead of waiting for it to push across the country.

If you're rooted, I assume it's as simple as using a root explorer, and navigating to /cache. Copy the update file to your external storage card. This has to be done before you attempt to flash the update (it will usually fail, anyway, if you have a custom recovery, or modified /system). The file will be deleted from /cache, also.

Nice. Direct and swift business. I'm rooted with TWRP recovery, will pull it.

When I try to check for updates, I get a message, informing me, that my device has been modified. I'm at work, until late tonight, and sadly, they expect me to actually work, lol. :sly: If I get a chance, I'll try flashing @freeza's stock odex, and failing that, I may odin MJ4, to see if I can get it. Hopefully someone else will beat me to it.
Oh, and one more thing. Thank you for providing space to host those roms, in the development section. Your contribution is invaluable.

MJ4 NATIVE HOTSPOT! (odex/deodex)
This is a working hotspot mod.
Thanks @wwjoshdew for the how-to video!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KdC_a5_ehWY
replace services.jar in system/framework.
THIS IS THE DEODEX version.
currently based on freeza's mj4 deodex stock rooted services.jar (thanks @freeza)
mod based off JoshBeach's previous work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481448 (thanks @JoshBeach)
it appears the offsets had changed preventing the mi5 version from running. hopefully this fixes that. it appears the new offset is at line 6680.
THE VERSION IN THIS POST IS FOR STOCK ROOTED DEODEXED MJ4 ONLY! SEE POST BELOW FOR ODEXED VERSION
ODEX VERSION:
for those who don't want the screen animations or other tweaks,
this is a stock odex mj4 with the hotspot activated.
not a flashable zip. unzip.
works while keeping knox 0x0
just use a file explorer or adb to copy files into system/framework.
make sure r/w permission for /system is set.
rename old files or make backup first.
Edit.
If renaming the old files you must change the ending or your phone will hang.
So file.end becomes file.end.bak
Or file.old or whatever.
Services.jar to services.jar.bak is ok.
Services.odex to services.odex.bak is ok
Not fileback.end
Services.jar to servicesbak.jar is not ok and will hang your phone.
If you leave the .jar or .apk or.odex on your orig file it will still try and load. Causing a bootloop.
This can be fixed with adb. Look at pages 5/6
I'll give it a shot and report my findings.

Thank, for this! I'm in an area, with barely enough data bandwidth to reply to this post, so I can't test, until a little later.
You know, it would have been ridiculous, for you to have to download the entire rom, just for that one file. I don't understand how you can offer to help, but no one else wants to offer, just the tiniest bit of support, for something THEY requested.
Again, thanks!

Sorry you are the man. Lol you more than welcome to delete this thread. I just really went through this because I couldn't find a mj4 stock odex version yesterday and saw people were still asking for it. Figured you were busy and hadn't gotten to it.

But for what it's worth, rooting with cf root is very painless and then just flash recovery in Odin or goo manager.

you just probably have to factory reset for phone to boot correct?
also does this bring back stock recovery if you were running a custom recovery?

It makes a difference, to what extent I'm unclear.
I think that that you may need to do a complete nuking of your entire internal and external cards, or at least pull the external prior to doing the one-click.
AOSP roms were hewn from that which resided on our phones at the time they were originally released, that being 4.3.
You're upgrading to TouchWiz KitKat, and you may have traces of the old OS spread across your device.
One wouldn't think that, but I'm unfamiliar with AOSP roms, so I'm merely using inductive thinking.
Perhaps one with knowledge of those roms could weigh in on this.

You do that, and then flash the one-click. Sorry if I didn't answer sooner, but you didn't quote me, so I wasn't notified via email that you asked something.
You'll have to reroot, and reinstall TWRP, but you'll be back in business in no time.
It's my understanding that once you're on TouchWiz KitKat, you'll be able to go back and forth from AOSP to TouchWiz with ease, but the first time it's this or nothing.
I hope this helps.

Update: So I nuked my phone (removed sd card, wiped every check box possible, even hit format data), and used rwilco's one click (redownloaded a new copy). Good news is the error messages I was receiving stopped as did the random reboots. Bad news is I still have no service... Anyone have anything that might help me out? At this point i'm using wifi/google voice to text and skype to call, but it kinda defeats the purpose of a cell phone when I can only use it at home/work.

You need to contact Sprint and have them reactivate your phone, or at the very least update PRL and profile.
You should have data back within fifteen minutes, as that's how much time it takes for it to propagate throughout their network.
Sounds as if somehow your MEID has been taken off of the grid.

Also, try updating your PRL via WiFi, or flashing same.
Finally, let me know if you have a clean backup of your EFS.

Please tell me if you have a good backup of your EFS. Doesn't matter if from Jellybean or KitKat.

No sir. If you're on KitKat, you're stuck. If you're on MJ4 but haven't made the jump, then you can. Check out the general forum for guidance. Thread title is self-explanatory.

Reflash stock rom, reinstall TWRP, reflash rom.
Basically start over.
That happened to me about 2 weeks ago. Sucks, but that was my only out.

Sorry to hear about this.
Have you tried doing this by wiping your internal memory, and checking your SD card for issues? There are a few whom have reported that restoring everything to out-of-the-box new got them back on their feet.
A nasty amount of work, but it could be an option. Having recovery with no way to use it seems awful.
Check Rwilco12 NAB one-click thread, last few posts, for the means another used to eliminate these types of errors.
Keep us apprised.

I appreciated your support. I didn't notice that you are a moderator in here until I hit the "thanks" icon. Just an update, it's a no go for me. I have restored back to stock unroot then odin TWRP but still not able to flash any rom.

I'm not your moderator my man, but I am here to serve all, users and devs alike, and only at the will of those whom appointed me.
I just own the device, and love the fine folks here, and all that xda is.

I think I know the answer but I'm hoping I'll be surprised...I screwed up and upgraded phones, complying with a 2GB data plan and downgrading from my grandfathered unlimited data plan. My bill went from 120/mo to 60/mo and I had lost my S3 so I was desperate. Is there a WiFi tether app that uses less data than the others? Also, I'm rooted but using stock ROM. I have read other threads about tethering and it seems like something different works for everyone. I can't get my phone to tether using stock ROM. Is this the problem?
Thanks so much

Not sure about how much data it uses and I'm sure it all depends like you've said but in case you haven't seen this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512981
Tethering for your phone. Fairly easy.
I also don't have unlimited data and am curious what some people say about this.

I've been following this thread to figure out how to do this and have been trying the whole night but can't figure it out. I've downloaded all the files for MK2 and moved the file to the right location but am super stuck. I miss my S3. I think I would have rather stuck with the S3 instead of upgrading to the S4. Poor decision on my part.
Fairly easy as in you got it to work no problem?

No I haven't used this method but from reading the OP to that thread it looks like you'd just need SafeStrap installed and then youd flash that in recovery. Again that's how I took it. Do you have SafeStrap installed? If you're rooted it'd be like installing any app

Once SafeStrap is installed, open it and chick install recovery.

I'm dumb and can't figure out if I have SafeStrap installed, it is rooted though.
I use foxfi doesn't require root or safetrap

Ah I don't know why I've been struggling so much. Thanks...I'm going to try the download if I can get the MD5s to match. They don't seem to be lining up w/the download.
