I just bought an ematic EGQ307BL tablet. It comes loaded with 4.2
I would post a link to the tablet but the site won't let me.
Do any of you know a way to root this tablet or load 4.3 or 4.4?
I am knew to the whole rooting thing, any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeremy
I also need root for this device
First I would just like to say hello to all of the incredible developers we have on this site. I've followed along for a very long time and I've finally decided to create an account. I know that you guys are the best at what you do. So, with that said, please help us root this device. I know you can do it. Leapinlar, can you or Verygreen help us with this, or are you strictly Nook developers?
Thanks
I would also like to know if this is rootable as it seems to be a pretty good deal right now at Wal-Mart. It has decent specs @ a decent price.
Ematic-HD-Quad-Core-7-Tablet-8GB
I just picked up this tablet for my mom for Christmas and decided to play around with it. For the price, it's not a bad tablet at all. Screen resolution is crappy but for a first tablet for my mom, it's just perfect.
It's surprisingly smooth with no real noticeable lag but I did a Quadrant benchmark test and my Tegra 2 [dual core] Viewsonic G-tablet actually benchmarked higher. Albeit the G-tablet is rooted and ROM'ed, overclocked to 1200mhz along with a bunch of other memory tweaks, it's getting solid 3100's while the All Winner's [quad core] Ematic is only scoring around 2700's. Still happy with the Ematic though.
Before I forget, I managed to root the Ematic in under 5 minutes and that includes tracking down a spare SD card. I haven't been very active in the forum so it won't let me post the link but just go to freaktab.com>click forum>scroll down to Ematic Tablets>Root directions are under "Quick and easy Root for Ematic EGQ307 series"
The worst thing about the tablet is the battery life while you're using it. I can literally watch the battery percentage going down a percent increment every 10 to 15 minutes. Here's a few things I did to save the battery while the tablet is on but the screen is OFF (standby mode):
- Turn off location access - Settings >Personal>Location Access>Access to my location> OFF
- Turn off sync - Settings>Accounts>Google>Select your account and turn sync settings to off (deselect all options - you can always manually sync by clicking the 3 dots in the top right of screen and selecting "sync now")
- Advanced Wi-Fi settings - Settings>Wireless & Networks>Wi-Fi>(click the 3 vertical dots in the top right of screen)>Advanced - Uncheck box "Network notification"; Also click "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" - select "Only when plugged in"; Finally for "Wi-Fi optimization" check the box to "minimize battery usage when Wi-Fi is on
- Data usage setting - Settings>Wireless & Networks>Data usage>(click the 3 vertical dots in the top right of screen)>Check the box "Restrict background data" - Note: You are still able to get on the internet through Wi-Fi, background data is not needed. This is the biggest contributor to saving your battery/screen off.
- Turn off sync settings on other email. You can always manually sync by refreshing your email
* Doing the above settings has enabled my battery to stay at the same level for over 8 hours (while in standby mode/screen off - whatever you choose to call it.) I left for work in the morning with my battery on 93%. Came home in the early evening and the battery was still on 93%
Miscellaneous Tips
- I also suggest using the app Juice Defender but I found it wasn't absolutely necessary
- The obvious settings: turn brightness down; sleep after 30 seconds; turn Daydream OFF; No live wallpapers
- Do 2 to 3 full charge and discharge cycles
- I highly recommend going with a different launcher. The stock launcher was running 2 processes and taking almost a 100Mb of RAM between the two of them. Apex or Nova Launcher use far less.... around 20 to 30Mb depending on your settings
- Enable Developer options - Go to Settings>About tablet>Build number - keep clicking the build number and you will see a count down to open Developer options. Once inside Developer options (if your into speed and not animations) - scroll down to "Window animation scale", "Transition animation scale" and "Animator duration scale" - Turn all three of them OFF (default is 1x)
*Note: if you're into higher benchmark scores, while your in Developer options, scroll down to "Force GPU rendering" and check the box. This will increase your 2d scores.
To increase your 3D scores do the following very carefully.
Download ES File Explorer in the Play Store. Open the app and click the top left of app (looks like a phone in front of a sphere) Select Tools>Root Explorer (turn ON) - Press and hold the word Root Explorer for 5 seconds - another screen opens. Select "Mount R/W" and select RW for "Path" and "system" - click OK
Press the top left option you clicked earlier (phone in front of sphere): Now scroll to the top and select Local>Device>system>lib>egl - Find the file named libGLES_android.so
Long press on the file to select it. On the bottom select "Rename" - simply change it from libGLES_android.so to libGLES_android.bak
Long press on the file one more time to select it. On the bottom select "More" and then "Move to"
Select the 1st option (there should only be two, the first one looks like a phone and the second one looks like an SD card), then select "system" and finally click OK
*Note: Doing the above steps increased the frame rates in Quadrant 3D benchmark scores thusly increasing the overall 3D score. I've done this simple tweak on this Ematic, my Viewsonic G-tablet, my rooted and ROM'ed LG Optimus S and it increased the 3d scores on all of them.
I've done more tweaking than what I've listed here but I hope this little bit helps
Could someone provide a ROM dump of the firmware on this tablet after rooting it? It might help me sort out some issues I'm having with my NB07.
Thanks
Couldn't figure out how to root when developer options wasn't showing up. Thanks for the tip on getting it to show with the build number and tapping repeatedly. Now I'll see if I can root this damn thing.

I could not get recovery to recognize zip file on ext sd so I copied it to internal drive and it worked great.
It is a bit tricky navigating the recovery window with the Ematic EGQ307 since there are no hardware buttons. Without pressing down too hard you scroll down the page until your selected option is highlighted and then push the Power button.
Help
Don't mean to revive an old thread but I've been searching and can't seem to find a copy of the stock rom for this tablet. Can anyone upload a copy somewhere? I managed to get mine in a bootloop, did a factory reset, flashed a zip to undo the mods I did and nothing. Regretfully I didn't make a backup. Hopefully someone out there still has this tablet and can help me out.
I liked this tablet so much that I got 3 more on sale from Walmart- another one for me and 2 for friends. After rooting them I've been experimenting with SetCPU and Juice Defender to see which one is more stable while extending the battery life. I don't think that I've gone a day without having at least one of them freeze up on me. No problem- just power it off and back on, and I can get right back to where I was before it froze. (BTW the freezing up is so common that the manual even mentions it as though it is a normal condition.)
Last week I had one freeze up for good and I have not been able to get it to boot up; it stays on the screen that says "ematic" with the 4 dots going from the left to the right until the battery goes dead. I tried the reset button, I tried connecting the USB cord to a computer. It had been running fairly well for a few days and then it didn't want to reboot. After hitting the reset button I was able to get back to the original sign in screen but it froze up again after that for good.
This one is going back for a refund but I was wondering what could be done if another one locks up like this later. Is there a way to boot the this up with an SD card or through the USB cable so that a stock ROM could be reinstalled if and when one becomes available.
One more question: are there any other tablets which are like brothers, cousins or twins to the EGQ307? Here are the numbers from the About Tablet screen:
Firmware version:
3.2_20130704
Kernel version:
3.3.0

Build number:

sssteeve
P.S. These are really slick tablets for the price (~$80) and any further development for them would be great. Ematic has listed another 7" quad-core tablet (the EQS307) with a retail price of $250 and I have a hunch that it is basically the same as the EGQ307 but with more stable firmware and software.
EDIT: It looks like the problem with my tablet freezing up had to with the default settings in SetCPU... 1200mhz maximum/120mhz minimum. I raised the minimum to 456mhz and it hardly ever locks up anymore. (I had tried Juice Defender Ultimate instead of SetCPU and it had the same 120mhz default minimum value.)
I just got a Hisense Sero 7 Pro which is a much better low-cost quad core tablet and has a lot of independent developers working on it (Hisense released the source code for it in February but with the 7 Pro being a discontinued item I think that the developers are backing off a bit.) Newegg is selling factory refurbished tablets for $89.99. However I really do like the smaller size and lighter weight of the EGQ307 which Walmart has been selling for $59.99. And it does have a 16:9 display which is better for watching newer videos.
How to remove cover from EGQ307- easy as π
It is easy to pry off the back of the EGQ307 using a tiny non-metallic pry "bar" and starting right at the SD card slot. I believe that the one long wire going from the pcb to the bottom of tbe screen is the wifi antenna; if you are having signal problems you might try raising the wire a little bit (it seemed to help for me.) The battery looks very generic- which is good because it should be easy to find replacements that fit- possibly one with a higher capacity (just a quess.)
different recovery?
can i install a touch recovery on the ematic egq307 i cant navigate current stock recovery no vol buttons
just picked up 2 of these from wal-mart for $39 each, not bad at all for the price!
gonna see if i can get one setup & sent to my grandmother :good:
I just picked up mine from Walmart as well. Overall, pretty zippy for the price. The viewing angle is terrible and the memory/partition layout is questionable, but overall i think its going to be a fun $40 gadget.
Root was easy following the directions above. I recommend that you install TiBackup and uninstall the extra apps that you wont use, these run out of main space really quickly the way they have it configured.
If anyone has luck with a custom recovery, please share!
Hey guys, how did you get them for $39? Was it an instore only price? Online it is $49.99 and I am definitely noodeling picking up a couple of these for xmas presents.
I am thinking Link2SD will be a must have for these tablets once rooted. That should allow for lots of app/storage space.
Root Achieved for this Tablet model
First Download drivers for your tablet . A search online will bring up a generic driver . Though using Windows 10 you should not need to .
Windows has drivers that should work and install upon connecting the device .
Second . Go download Wondershare Mobile
Download the wondershare program for windows . It has a 5 day free trial and believe me you will understand it is well worth having .
Using the program after install go into the right hand column and click on Root . Then let it go through the process . It will describe the device as
something other than the Ematic tablet . Thats fine . Let it work . It will end up rebooting your device about 7-9 times and optimizing apps etc ....
Eventually after about an hour or so it will finish optimizing and it will come up with a Success message . You can disconnect your tablet and you can
either keep the program or uninstall it . I myself uninstalled it because I use Android SDK Studio for all my needs .
Success ... device is now rooted . You can now download apps that require root . As Ematic only gives a 90 day warranty it should not be any warranty issues
as most likely it is out of warranty anyway .
Now the cons -
If you did the rooting process to be able to move apps to the SD card then you are out of luck . I am guessing that Ematic has disabled moving apps
to SD card at the hardware level as even after rooting the device I was unable to get the apps to move .
Bottom line is that this process is the only easy process I have found to let you gain Root on the Ematic EGQ223BL tablet . Unknown whether it works on
other Ematic tablets or not . The tablet that was rooted was the above model number running stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop .
Cheers

I love launchers. I love what custom kernels and ROMs can do to your phone. What I want to know; What kernel (if any) and ROM (if any) will make launchers smooth/lag free/fast and extend battery life at the same time. I don't play 3d games and I don't need crazy performance. All I want is for my launcher to be smooth, fast, and lag free and save as much battery as it can while still making the launcher lag free. I don't like sense. I don't like AOSP. or ASOP. Or whatever it is. I like launchers because you can customize it and they just seem better. What do you guys think?
How about a Senseless rom? Check out Scott's Cleanrom with sense removed. Otherwise, I think leedroid tweeks can freeze sense up. Once you have that done, use ADW, GO, etc. Freezing all the sense components frees up ram and processing power, which helps save battery and preserve processing power to keep you launcher smooth.
If you find that you have more power than you need after that, use SetCPU to underclock for more battery, or overclock for even more power. Make sure your rom is based on the 2.17 update too; that really helped the battery out. Using the stock kernel, IMO works best for battery as well.
Since I'm on Hboot 1.5 how do I get the 2.17? Since I already flashed before the update I don't think it will update.
You have to relock the phone "fastboot oem lock" and run the latest Ruu.

Since youll probably miss this if I put it at the very bottom, there is a thread someone started here if you want a bit of inspiration for home screens:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459661
and the official MIUI only homescreen thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=990233
The absolute best by a HUGE margin is MIUI, and its features match exactly what you are looking for. It is incredibly smooth and has great battery life with very little running services in the background compared to most of the ROMs out there.
Everyone thinks Eternity is crazy smooth, and it does seem that way. But MIUI puts Eternity to shame on smoothness
Here is what I do to get amazing smoothness and battery life (can also just get the apps and stuff I said and look at screenshots at the bottom):
Install MIUI
Install AnthraX A06 kernel (best one yet, PM someone to get this kernel)
download SysTune. Yes SysTune, not System Tuner Pro or any of that. Needs to be SysTune. This is the best tuning app anyway so you should be using it.
download Launcher Pro (I prefer it, can use whatever but Launcher Pro works very well and it uses the same process as a lot of system stuff which is handy later)
download Script Manager
fin and download the V6 Supercharger script, update 9 RC5.2 (it is downloaded as a .txt file, remove the extension so it becomes a .sh file and put it on your SD card)
run script manager in root mode, run V6 script as su (dont select run on boot). Be sure and integrate it into build.prop I think it is. You will be asked this.
select 1000HP setting (option 9)
dont wipe and restart, go back to the menu and select die-hard + OOM groupings
select "engine flush" (option 18)
select "detailing" (option 19)
select to install the nitro lag nullifier tweak (option 20)
now select the "superclean and restart" (option 30)
once restarted open SysTune and change to OnDemand governor
set minimum speed to 192
set maximum speed to 1404
check "apply on boot" and hit apply
go to the governor tab and change to these:
[*]down_differential - 13
[*]sampling down factor - 4
[*]ignore_nice_load - 0
[*]up_threshold - 92
[*]two_phase_freq - 810000
[*]powersave_bias - 0
[*]sampling_rate - 15000
[*]io_is_busy - 1
select "apply on boot" and hit apply
on the VDD tab select the "-" button at the top 4 times. You can go down more later but for now this is to be safe.
scroll down the list of frequencies and set/make sure the 1.4GHz step is set to "1150000".
Set each of these steps to:
[*]1404000GHz = 1150000
[*]1350000 frequency = 1125000
[*]1296000 frequency = 1100000
[*]1242000 = 1075000
no NOT check apply on boot. Hit apply. After you have been running a couple hours straight on these voltages then come back and check apply on boot. You dont check it right away in case you set something wrong and it causes a crash from too low of voltage
on the miscallaneous tab change both IO schedulers to deadline
set both read ahead values to 2048
check "apply on boot" and hit apply
set:
[*]sched_child_runs_first - 0
[*]sched_compact_yield - 1
[*]sched_latency_ns - 18000000
[*]sched_min_granularity_na - 1500000
[*]sched_wakeup_granularity_na - 3000000
[*]sched_tunable_scaling - 1
[*]sched_nr_migrate - 32
[*]sched_migration_cost - 500000
check "apply on boot" and hit apply
set:
[*]swappiness - 20
[*]dirty_ratio - 95
[*]dirty_background_ratio - 60
[*]dirty_writeback_centiseconds - 000
[*]vfs_cache_pressure - 40
[*]min_free_kb - 34133
[*]min_free_order_shift - 4
[*]oom_dump_tasks - 1
[*]oom_kill_allocating_task - 0
check "apply on boot" and hit apply
in the Renice Process tab:
[*]click on the plus icon and select:
[*]android.process.acore = -15 (this is Launcher Pro, choose your launcher process)
[*]com.amazon.venezia = +15 (if you use and have the Amazon appstore installed)
[*]com.android.mms = -17
[*]com.android.phone = -18
[*]com.facebook.katana = +13 (if you use facebook and once it is installed)
[*]com.google.android.gm = +4
[*]com.teslacoilw.widgetlocker = -8 (if you use widgetlocker. If you dont, why arent you?)
[*]com.touchtype.swiftkey = -20 (if you use Swiftkey. If you dont, why dont you? Ok but select whatever process is for the keyboard you use)
Select any other widgets you use in your launcher and set things like clock widgets to around +5 priority. Contact widgets and stuff like that to around -5 priority
press your menu button and click on "more", select service icon
change your icon or set it to no icon. I dont use an icon
check "apply on boot" and hit apply
lastly:
press menu and go to settings
in the personal tab, select display
make sure auto brightness is on
click on advanced mode
set Sample Interval to either 1 or 2 seconds, I use 2.
change the light levels to "use custom"
light level to dim = 5
click on "edit other levels"
change the lowest 5 settings to be "2" for the buttons
set up your screen levels like this:
[*]30
[*]42
[*]55
[*]67
[*]80
[*]125
[*]165
[*]205
[*]230
[*]255
Set up your brightness levels under the "Lower" area like this:
[*]0
[*]35
[*]50
[*]70
[*]105
[*]350
[*]600
[*]1200
[*]3500
[*]7000
Then click on "Save Settings"
oh and finally, in settings under the launcher category, make sure keep launcher in memory is turned off
Once you have everything going you may want to use that battery calibration script from the same place you downloaded the V6 Supercharger. It is the best calibration you can get.
You may or may not want to install the "super zip" made by il Duce. I like it since it includes an mms.apk file that auto splits messages at 160 characters so texts dont throw and error at you and spaz out when you send a long one. But you dont have to use it if you dont want to. In the current version of the ROM and super zip there are two small bugs where pressing the wifi button in the dropdown menu will cause a reboot and also your time select when setting an alarm is bugged. You can still see when the alarm will be set for it is just slightly harder to set since some of the numbers are covered up by a bad graphic. Other than that, no bugs at all that I can find.
My battery when I barely use my phone has lasted 3 days on one charge. When I do use my phone it easily goes all day long and I still have 30-40% battery by bedtime. If I am going crazy on usage, it still lasts me from when I wake up till I get home from work.
I know that was a HUGE amount of steps and settings and takes a bit of time. But once you know it all you can do it in like 10 minutes and you never need to mess with the stuff again. Trust me when I say the setup is well worth it and nothing even comes close to the smoothness

Super Zip v32 (thanks il Duce)
http://db.tt/GmmA7xzM
What Super Zip does:
- ES (MIUIsettings.apk from 12.30 in /data, launcher2.apk from 12.30, SystemUI.apk from 12.16) - Andy Thomson
*note* overscroll actually works fine IF your framework-res.apk OR theme.mtz includes it already
- MiuiCamera.apk from kaos420 - no FCs
- newest market 3.4.4 plus speed hack - me
- newest google defaulted to search button - liquidsolstice
- OLD sprint VVM app (no idea if this will fix anything) - me
- volume+ from 12.30 (long press vol for track skip screen off) - Andy Thomson
- remove debug icon - jdeloach
- remove "no service" when in airplane mode - jdeloach
- kickass d3rp screen transitions - me
- added back in old DSP manager (no FC) - kaos420
- added back in gallery 1.0 (no FC) - miui
- added fixed qHD torch.apk - jdeloach
*note:
you can get better battery life by only maxing your speed at 1.18GHz instead of 1.4GHz
Also by changing your sampling rate in the governor to 25000
and by changing the up_threshold to 95
I included screenshots of my settings so that you can all see them first hand. I normally use a bit lower voltages too but I upped them for these shots to show levels most people have said work well for them. In my battery shot, youll notice today was a light day of usage. I only sent about 100 texts and made 4 or 5 phone calls and didnt play any games today.
1. Thanks a million.
2. I hope you didn't type all that out for that specific post. I hope you copied and pasted.
3. Thanks a billion.
haha I will do this for sure. One thing though, I have a SEIDO 1900mAh 3.7V Li-ion battery. It seems better than stock. Will the battery calibration script work for this battery?
I have been at work since 330am. It is now 130pm. Sent only 50 texts. 1 quick phone calll. I think I got on the internet for 5 minutes. My battery is down to 65%. Is this good?
Up time: 73:08:20
Awake time: 37:28:39
Display 75%
Cell standby 12%
phone idle 10%
voice calls 2%
Android OS 2%
Seems like it shouldn't be down to 65%. But it's better than nothing. It will get me through the day. With very light usage though. I don't usually use it this little.

lol actually I typed it up just for this post, but I needed to anyone since another person was asking me to do it for him too. Now I was able to just link him here and save everything I typed up for future linking to people who want it
Yes the battery calibration will work for any battery on any ROM. It monitors your actual mili voltage level of the battery and gives you precise instructions for how to perfectly calibrate the battery. It also shows you what it is being read as, and what level it should be at perfect calibration so you know how far off you are. Batteries have different capacities but all the batteries for our phones are supposed to be at a certain voltage when full and drain in a certain way as they discharge, this lets you calibrate it perfectly for how it should be
That seems like a bit high idle drain to me. I did that same thing today so far with usage and have been on battery almost as long as you and I am at 86% right now. with the ROM, kernel, and settings I posted.
Those are a lot of steps. I'm a noob still so don't lose this thread. I will most likely need your help at some point. If not, I will still probably have questions. Thanks again. Will post back soon.

Turn off all radios when not in use (gps, Bluetooth, wifi, data, 4g). Use a widget (default or app like Switchpro) to quickly turn them on and off. The radios draw power even if not in use. Be sure to use WiFi over 3G when you can.
Stop using live wallpapers - I love them, but they are really only good for showing off due to their battery drain.
Set your screen timeout to something that fits you - This will prevent your phone from staying on when you don’t manually turn off the screen (which you should).
Everyone has that issue where the first ten percent go the fastest.
This is due to two things. One is that these types of batteries stop charging once they get to 100% to prevent damage, and begin charging again at 90%. This means that you could potentially unplug your seemingly fully charged phone at 90% actual charge. The second is below
Use the trick described in this thread, it works.
My idea behind how often you should do it is once a month, if you flash a new ROM, or if you stop noticing the benefits.
This is the calibration technique recommended by HTC themselves. Check it out!
Make sure your phone sleeps - I'm sure you have all heard around that your phone isn't "sleeping".
This is referring to the phone's "awake" time, hence the name. When you go to menu>settings>about phone>battery, you can compare the two numbers, "up time" vs. "awake time." Generally, up time refers to the amount of time since the last reboot. The "awake time" is how long the screen has been active. The problem is, a lot of the time, due to the endless possibilities of inconsistencies between apps/ROMs/kernels/phones, the phone will not go to "sleep", drawing power proportionate to the screen being in use when it reality the phone is sitting idle.
If you compare these numbers, and they are the same, or if you note the difference, turn off the screen for a minute, then re-check and they are the same, then your phone is not sleeping.
One solution is to reboot.
Usually, SystemPanel will show an app that has gone "rouge" and is keeping your phone awake.
Uninstall applications/reinstalling them slowly, checking after every install to see what is causing it is one tedious but surefire solution.
Lastly, follow these steps that I have discovered almost always work.
Reboot phone.
Instantly upon reboot, as soon as you gain control, open up some type of monitor/taskkiller
"kill all" tasks on startup; about 5 times in quick succession should do the trick.
Turn off the screen and leave it for about five minutes.
Check the up time v. awake time and see if they are the same.
If they are, repeat steps 1-5. If they are different, you are good.
Use Juice Defender - Basically it controls your data for you to maximize life. Learn more from my review of Juice Defender.
Task killers used to be the shiz, but no longer.
Here is the ultimate, in depth, graphically assisted, explanation by the famous Fresh ROM's chef, Flipz. In short, they aren't needed (and can do more harm than good).
A good alternative is the application SystemPanel Pro. It has a free version, but I highly reccomend purchasing the paid app. It basically monitors everything going on with your phone's usage both in real time an in terms of usage history. If your battery is draining fast, it tells you what app was doing it, how much it was doing it, and allows you to stop it.
◄●Rooted Users●►
Try out custom kernels - In the Android Development section of the forums, you can see all of the different kernels being developed. These allow for all kinds of modifications like underclocking the CPU and undervolting, both of which save battery. Here is a great guide to custom kernel's by mroneeyedboh.
Use SetCPU in compliance with whatever your custom kernel allows.
This site will explain the basics of SetCPU: http://www.pokedev.com/setcpu/
-Profiles from SetCPU should usually involve these for battery life optimization:
-Screen off at the minimum clock speed for both, with the max raised on level if sluggishness is apparent
-A temperature greater than “X”
-General power related profiles that lower cpu speed at lower battery levels
◄●Notes●►
Some apps or processes begin to run at startup and keep the phone awake. These apps are not detected by things like spare parts or system panel, unless sometimes represented in the "system" process, in which case its usage will be unusually high.
This shouldn't take more than three repeats, and if it does, you need to factory reset, and slowly add apps back to see what's causing the problem.
When it comes to actually "calibrating" one's battery, there are a couple of methods floating around. The method I first learned is to charge the phone all the way, boot into recovery immediately, and "wipe battery stats". Then reboot quickly, and run your phone all the way to death without charging it, then charge it all the way without interrupting it, and you should be good to go. Do this when changing ROMs/kernels for best results.
Big thanks to Biofall for the battery tips that you see her. Thanks dude.
I'll keep this updated as often as possible. Open to all suggestions, just send me a PM.

1. Battery calibration for first runtime should just be using it until the phone shuts off, then go to bootloader until it shuts off. Then do a full charge to 4.2v.
I would HIGHLY suggest putting a button combination map.

1) on the Gmail app when trying to copy text you used to be able to just click on the highlighted text to copy it to clipboard, now you have to go down to the bottom left and click on the icon to do it. This is only on the Gmail app.
2) The menu button will be sorely missed. Now the menu for each app appears, depending on the app, on a different part of the screen, as opposed to having it always on the same spot.
The "Recent Apps" button is UTTERLY USELESS! With the original Evo, you used to be able to press and hold the home button and see the most recent 8 apps without having to scroll at all!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?? (WERE THEY THINKING?!?!)
3) The text app, and for that matter Handcent and GoSMS DO NOT show the count for the unread messages, neither on the icon, nor on the notification bar, UNLESS you actually scroll down the notifications, then you can see how many unread messages you have.
4) Gmail app used to be awesome with the original Evo. Not only did it show the total unread messages you had but also, if you marked a message as unread (even a very old message), whether you did it from the phone or even from the computer, you would get a notification as if you just got a new message! Where's that?!?!
5) Sync seems to be having its own issues as well. On the regular email app, if I set it up to sync email every 5 minutes, it takes rather about 10-15 mins for the emails to come in. Original Evo was prompt at that...
6) on the regular email app in order to be able to go to the next or previous email, one has to first click on menu and only then do you have the "next" or "previous" option, unlike on the original Evo.
7) When already on max volume and want to make sure you still are with the volume rocker, you would hear a sound with the old Evo, now you got nothing are have to actually LOOK at the screen to make sure you got it to the max.
8 ) No option to play YouTube videos out of the YouTube app when clicking on a YouTube video on the browser.
That was a given with the original Evo. Annoying as hell on the LTE.
9) You MUST use both hands when holding the phone vertically if you want to have access to the whole screen (if you're laying down or sitting back on a sofa, for example), otherwise you will be unwillingly hitting the volume rocker or needing a chiropractor for your thumb. An issue which could be avoided with a gel cover, but could have been foreseen by HTC when producing such a smooth non-grippy back to the phone.
10) Gmail and Tasks are incompatible?! I mean, what's the point??
11) The regular email app can only be accessed a limited amount of times per 15 minutes? I already got quite a few of those error messages...
12) You used to be able to choose the input method and switch keyboards by long-pressing on any field. Now you have to exit whatever application you're on and go to settings, keyboard etc. to do it.
This isn't a cellphone war between the 4G and the LTE, obviously the LTE has lots of stuff over the original Evo. I'm not here to bash the LTE, on the contrary I would love to find solutions to all (or most) of those issues.
For the time being if I have to sum it up:
I love the speed and I LOVE the battery life but, in terms of practicality, I would stick with the original Evo.
P.S. I would rather not root my phone, and would like those problems to go away, help!
Gimme your thoughts!

Shout outs to the Website Poster Ryan Inoyori
LG G2 is an innovative smartphone which understand gestures rather than reliance over hard buttons. It is packed with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB RAM and 3,000 mAh battery pack to suit your needs. If you want to make it more powerful and get the hidden secrets, know the top 20 tips and tricks for performance optimisation and extended battery life.
Features and System Hidden Tricks
1. Smart Screen
It is quite similar to the Smart Stay feature of Samsung Galaxy S4 which detects your eyes if you're looking at the screen and dims or lights up accordingly.
2. KnockOn
KnockOn allows you to wake up the display without pushing the power key. Simply knock twice to light up the screen. Use the same gesture to turn off the screen display.
3. Instant Desktop
Pinch out to hide all applications and reveal the home screen instantly. This feature will not let alternative launchers to access unless otherwise said.
4. Quick Camera
For three seconds, hold the volume down when the screen is off, to quickly access the camera app and snap a picture. This acts as a camera button whenever you are facing the rear-camera.
5. Quick Note
For a quick launch of Note app, hold the volume up for three seconds when the screen off to quickly make notes.
6. SMS Themes
Messaging app on G2 feature themes and changing is as easy as going to Menu > Settings > Conversation theme. You can customise the theme yourself and set different wallpapers per contact.
7. Screenshots
Normally, you need to use the volume and power keys to get a screenshot but in G2, you can swipe the button of the screen then slide right to access quick memo. Use it to take a screenshot and share it if you want.
8. Wireless Storage System
Transfer files wirelessly through wireless network connection using IP and password. Once connected to a wireless network, enable it using the notification drop down and follow the instructions provided to you. Using the optional static IP address is also possible.
9. Images with Full Frame
Use the W10M option or wide 10-megapixel for viewing images on your G2. Using the 13MP has an aspect of 4:3 ratio which creates black bars on images.
10. Clipboard Manager
All copied images or texts are stored in a built-in clipboard and you can access it by press and holding on an empty text box. A clip tray will take directly to the clipboard.
11. Gallery Functions
Inside the gallery app, pinch the image to show the option mode where you delete the file by sliding up or share it by sliding down.
12. Guest Mode
You can now personalise a guest mode on LG G2 and it can control apps and capabilities available depending on which mode is enabled. Go to Settings > Lock Screen settings > Set a separate pattern for Guest Mode > Set apps accessible in Guest Mode.
13. Plug and Pop
Set the animation appearing on the home screen whenever you plug in an ear jack or OTG cable. Go Settings > General > Accessory > USB Storage or Earphone > Edit app panel > Set preferred apps.
14. Audio Zoom
Zoom in on a specific audio source during video recording by zooming on your subject. Audio Zoom uses three stereo microphones to amplify the sound from that specified source.
15. Text Link Transfer
You can transfer information from a text into another application. Simply press and hold on the text and a pop-up menu will prompt to which app you want to be transferred such as map, browser and calendar.
16. Dual Camera Functionality
Like the Galaxy S4, LG G2 can use both of its camera at the same time to capture images and even record videos. In addition, the feature uses picture-inpicture technology to put your face in any photo or video you are recording.
17. Tracking Zoom
Use this feature to zoom in on moving subject you select and track actions in a separate pane overlapping the background video.
18. Zoom to Track
If you want to view the subject on a closer range within a video, select the moving object on the playback and choose Zoom to Track to zoom in to track the subject throughout the clip.
19. Capture Plus
Use the Capture Plus to get a screenshot of the entire Web page with precise border controls.
20. Clip Tray
The Clip Tray or commonly known as Clipboard in PC which stores memory of pictures, text and links for future reference use. In addition of sharing it to other apps, it also allows you to store multiple items, create visual collection of information and add items selectively.
Battery and Memory Optimisation
1. Home Screen Panels
Use as many as needed home screen to avoid slowing down the LG G2. It is recommended to utilise the default home launcher for best performance.
2. Widgets
All widgets in the home screen and lock screen consume battery and memory which you should monitor regularly. Use widgets which you truly need and enable auto-syncing if necessary.
3. Live Wallpaper
No matter how fast and fluid the G2, make sure to use Live Wallpaper which are stable and eats less power. Live Wallpapers combined with several widgets can slow down the device eventually.
4. Brightness Level
Manage the brightness level to juice more out of the battery and minimise it before you go to bed for battery saving purposes.
5. Screen Time-Out
If you prefer the device to turn off its screen automatically, set the screen time-out to a minimum such as 30 seconds or 1 minute max to save power.
6. Removing Applications
Uninstall apps which you do not use anymore to clean the clutter to the RAM and battery. Some apps may contradict functions to one another, so be careful on downloading from the Play Store or any other sources.
7. Wireless Connection
Disable wireless connectivity such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and mobile data when not in use to prevent them from draining power.
8. Software Updates
Don't forget to check in regularly to the LG G2 Web site, on your software updates found in the settings and the default PC suite of the device for new firmware releases. New updates include stability improvements and battery enhancements.
9. Regular Reboot
Reboot your smartphone regularly after every full charge so that the memory and apps will get refreshed after an entire day of usage.
10. Backup and Factory Reset
Always create a backup of all personal files and information stored on your device to ensure protection if something happens. Performing factory reset may be needed if an error or technical issue occurs. Backup first before performing any reset.
Good point, but i think you should format it a bit, maybe with bold fonts and underline etc. for better reading, maybe something like this:

The battery optimization options are kinda useless.
I've yet to see a live wallpaper that will slow down a Snapdragon 800 with 2 gigs of RAM. Plus, not all live wallpapers drain the battery (maybe it was so in the olden days of Gingerbread, but today stuff like Muzei are pretty light on the battery). Disabling wireless connections also makes no sense to me, especially in today's world where everyone and everything is connected. Also, the GPS module does not use battery when it's on, only when an app needs location access.
The biggest battery munchers are:
- high accuracy location access, coupled with Google location history
- CPU intensive apps (games, mostly)
- too short sync intervals (like every 10 minutes)
- rogue apps running in the background that won't let the phone go into deep sleep (I'm watching you, Facebook, I know what you're doing).
Great information,.very use full for G2 noobs
I am always confused with screenshot process.

This is kind of a misunderstanding.
The sensor in the G2 is indeed 4:3, so full size (13MP) images indeed have black bars on the sides when viewed on the phone - but nothing is added to the images. The black bars are simply blank screen space.
Also, using the W10M mode effectively crops a bit from the top and bottom of the image. If someone is only viewing the photos on the phone, than indeed W10M might be better, but if you plan on downloading them to your PC, it's better to shoot in full resolution and then crop as needed.
Thank you!
Thanks for the tips and tricks.
OK so I got my Z4 tablet three days ago. Fantastic construction, fantastic specs on paper.
I had a Z tablet up until last weekend that I sold for a good price and got this as a much needed replacement.
Both are LTE versions.
Anyway, here are some things I've noticed and I would like to have your comments on.
1) The "antitheft" system for the first two days seemed to be a PITA. As my device is set for three users (me, my wife, my son), it kept popping for the others that it locked and needed MY credentials to unlock. I did unlock it at least five times for each, which means I can't really be... far from the device and let them use it. That I use two step authentication, makes things even harder. Once my "authenticator" phone was out of power and I had to wait several minutes to unlock the tablet. Yesterday I updated to latest firmware and I haven't noticed the issue since. But it's just one day, it may come back. Once (before updating firmware) I tried to disable My Xperia (although I love the find my device feature) so they could work, but it kept me "waiting". In the end I pressed back and it didn't get disabled. Any similar experiences with the theft protection?
2) Backlight (set in auto) seems to be too dark some times. I clicked on the intensity bar, set it brighter while STILL in auto (like it is now set to have a brighter "base value"?). Does this sound normal?
3) This is not a Z4 issue, I also had this in Z. It's probably a lollipop thing or I don't understand something properly. Clicking the volume buttons I can set it to "no" sound from home screen. Or so I think. Because even if I set it to "off", apps STILL have sound and I have to RE-adjust the volume to off from within the app (without the "priority buttons" under the volume bar)... Am I the only one to find this stupid?
4) Anybody notices some lag or ESPECIALLY stuck web browser, when other profiles (users) have run apps? If I reset the device and not visit the other profiles, the device is more snappy. If some other user goes in, even quiting every app they run, the device seems to get slower when back in "owner" user. Still fast but not as "snappy". Anybody noticed the same?
5) Any idea when we get Android M? Will we get 5.1 before that? I mean official firmware. Anybody?
6) Is there a way to go to test menu? The tablet Z method doesn't seem to work.
7) Serious. No restricted profiles. Why? Sony support replied that lollipop has this disabled only on 3G/LTE devices (that makes no sense), yet my Z was also LTE and both are on lollipop 5.0.2 and it DID have restricted profiles. What's up with that?
Thank you for your time people, have fun.
...wow
2) Yes.. brightness is usually set a little low at first for battery purposes.
3) There are different volumes for different things. Using the volume rocker on the home screen and putting it all the way down will only adjust ringer/notification volume. In-app sounds will use the media volume which you will need to adjust while media sounds are playing or you can adjust it in your sound settings. Not stupid imo, just gives more flexibility.
5) It'll come when it comes.. nobody knows except google and sony. I'd like to hope we'd get 5.1 before 6.
(pending something on the other questions above)
2) So the set value, when brightness is in "auto" is like a base value?
3) Well I find it stupid. Why: Because when I am in home screen I used to be able to manage the universal audio settings of the device. Turning device to mute, would turn it to mute. As simple as that. Also clicking a simple icon next to volume bar, you could separately adjust notification and ringer and stuff like that. Now? You THINK you set your device to mute, but you have only set the notifications. You sleep in a silent house (next to the wife or something), start a game, it YELLS with the last volume settings, ignoring that you set the device to mute in home screen and you have to "run" and re-adjust the volume to zero, usually with some delay (in the meantime waking everybody) since the device won't let you adjust anything while loading the game. No, I call this stupid.
5) Well if it won't delay 6, I don't mind for 5.1. But I want 6 the soonest possible.
The app is setedit and you'll need to hand over almost $3 Canadian if you want these tweaks. 1 of them will work for sure without needing to enforce but I think it's a sweet deal and 3 of these are working on Pie. 2 of them, or even 1 is worth the price.
You'll need to go into a shell and enter exactly:
pm grant by4a.setedit22 android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Copy and paste it. If you don't know how to do that just look up ADB, android developer options, and Samsung USB drivers.
First the freebie. Go into Secure Table and click +add new setting (your first entry may ask you to grant a permission. DO IT)! enter: clock_seconds value: 1 BOOM! Hope you like it because it'll NEVER go away! Just kidding. If you factory reset... or simply enter a value of 0 you'll be rid of the ticker.
Next up I think is a freebie, too. Still in Secure Table, scroll down to sysui_qs_tiles delete everything. NO DON'T! Carefully, without erasing the entire list, add in MobileData exactly like that. So actually it'll be a comma first. Have a look around for other tiles because 'ol Sammy likes to keep things real tight with the carriers. You can also remove some but I think it's best to not potentially freezing your phone up.
Now, pretty sure these ones will need the guardian to stick so if you can manage 3 bucks it'll be worth it, especially the last 2!
Change tile rows and columns.
Right above the tile edit in Secure Table is sysui_qqs_count I like a value of 7. Don't go too small or too high. Or do it and see what happens. Please don't. I can only vouch for 7 and 8. I have heard of 3 but never tried it. This changes the first row, first pull on notification menu.
Now to change the rows, the long pull I guess you can call it, qs_tile_row in Secure Table still. I do 4. I heard if you enter in 50 you get a widescreen TV. No idea. I only tried 4.
Screen Timeout not long enough?
While some of you may not need it, I need more than 10 minutes. Head to System Table and... not sure why, but I think this needs both screen_off_timeout_rollback AND screen_off_timeout to work. I set mine to 1800000 (yes 5 zeroes) to get 30 minutes. Do it on both. Double that, 3600000 will give you an hour. So if you want 13 minutes and 27 seconds, figure it out. I think entering a value of 1 will get you a free trip to the ODIN app. Don't know what that is? You'll find out pretty quick if you screw this one up. Of course you're gonna head to the menu and look to see a new entry of 18 minutes and 55 seconds. Not happening. What you will see is that no selection is made. DON'T TOUCH IT! Just leave it alone. It's working. This one works in Pie. Only one setting is needed. Can't remember but you'll find it.
These 2 are the bestest and they work in Pie.
Goodbye HIGH BRIGHTNESS and HEADPHONE VOLUME warning!
In Global System set audio_safe_volume_state to a value of 2. "But mine's already at 2." So then you've been warned. Now add it to the guardian.
In System Table, you'll want to alter a value of 1 in the shown_max_brightness_dialog "But I don't have that entry." So close the app, crank up the brightness and be told how evil it is. Wasn't that fun? Now fix up the entry. Add it to the guardian with the 1 value and if set to 0 don't forget to change to 1
*NOTE* most of these values take about 15-45 seconds to kick in after every reboot. So, before you reboot and say it doesn't work, well, you're kinda right. But you'll soon forget about it and one day be able to reboot without seeing if it works or not. Finally, one day, you'll go to turn up the brightness, or volume, and that warning will not appear. And THAT'S when the real joy is felt. As you're cranking up that slider, in all of .02876 seconds, you're going to think, "Stupid warning" "OMG I am not gonna get a warning" "Hey cool I didn't get the warning. Anyone see that?"
Bonus Feature! When bored I random;y change values of random entries. See how fast you can screw yours up! Don't play with anything unless it's your friend's phone. We're not friends.
I can't vouch this works on any other device except A8. It's a representation of what's on your phone. Adding a custom ROM will change the output and results. Use your noggin, yo
Finally, I turned off battery optimization for the app and feature pack, and turned off notifications. It works fine. No usage pops up because it's very small and no problems with enforcing the edits. No annoying notification required.
mindlery,
I'm doing an article about Drone flight and high NITS display devices. A tablet or phablet that can display the sun equivalent brightness is very expensive so most pilots use cell phones. Of these cell phones samsung and lg both have models that will BOOST brightness (manually at least on the lg G7) but it will only boost for up to 3 minutes. one might think its' a heat issue but the timer is probably a battery saver because when flying I keep resetting my boosted brightness on the Lg-G7 and the phone never gets warm.
So you appear t6o have knowledge on this and there may be an opportunity to help a bunch of pilots if a boost timeout can be changed (easily via app or some easy method) to fix the boosted time to about 30 minutes or make it a manual switch.
If you are at all interested, I'm going to do an article and video for other pilots on this if I can get a solution down.
