I am experiencing an annoying effect.
Literally every minute the screen turns on for 10 seconds, then turns off again. It is only showing the lock screen, there are no new alerts or anything.
I blew out the phone and with nothing installed it did not do it. I was trying through process of elimination to figure out what app is doing it, but have not had any luck.
I looked at the logcat and could not find anything.
Is there some way other than that I am doing to figure out what is turning the phone on?

So I figured out a solution to my own problem. I used Titanium Backup to freeze apps until I found the one with a bug, and Noom Walk was that app if anyone else experiences a similar issue.

Hi,
I have looked with the search, but nothing even close comes up....
(prove me wrong, I'll be happy to find the solution)
Basically, my lock screen and my today screens have stopped shutting down after the preset time?
I have tried changing the time but nothing, I sit watching the screen like some sort of muppet, mentally counting down a minute or 30 seconds to see if it will shut down but nothing.
Not a problem over the bank holiday weekend as the phone also gets a decent rest, but come Tuesday when all hell lets loose I will need all the battery I can have, and a screen that stays on 24/7 isn't going to help!
Ta.
try phone reboot! i had that problem when i had an application running in background which did not allow auto-screen-off

What was the application? Not had the issue as yet but if it happens it would be nice to know what to look out for.

Hi,
I know i should RTFM , but how do you reboot? and it this like like a hard reset/ soft reste for a Winmo phone? And will it delete anything?
Sorry to be a noobie.
i just meant to shutdown the phone and then turn it on ;-)
if you have the problem resulting of a background app which deactivates screen-off, this will solve it
Hello,
I rooted the phone usin gExynosAbuse.apk and now I noticed that the screen will stay on even after some use. I set the display to go off after 1 min. FYI, Motion is OFF and Stay Awake is NOT checked in the development settings.
If the phone is freshly restarted the screen will go off after the set amount of time. However, after some use (not sure what triggers it), the screen would stay on until I pressed the lock/pwr button.
Any idea why?
Thanks.
You have an app keeping it on. Time to go through your list and find it
Thanks for the answer.
That sounds like a pita. I guess there is no other way than run an app and see if the problem comes back, repeat for all the app I have installed?
Well, think back to when the problem first occurred. As long as you weren't configuring apps at the time, its likely to be the last installed app.
Otherwise, you could do what I did when I had an app deodexing my /data/app directory every boot:
Uninstall them in groups until the issue goes away.
You could also take a look at your wakelocks, and narrow it down further that way. The phone definitely isn't sleeping when the screen is on.
Yeah, the thing is I just got this phone and after rooting I went crazy with app installs lol.
Guess will have to take my time to weed out the problem.
Thanks again!
Hope you find it.
After 70 apps, I gave up and just wiped data and started over when I had my issue, LOL.
after exchanging my phone due to the reboot problem, im encountering a new problem
my screen sometimes turns on by itself, and if i try to operate it at that point, the screen will turn black and nothing is functional except for the soft buttons and the pull down menu, only restart will solve this
sometimes it will also just crash to black even without the screen turning on by itself scenario
does anyone have the same issue? i suspect this is a software problem
I just got the z5 last night, and experienced the same problem this morning. Turns out that if you give the power button a 'double click', the screen comes back on. So this solves the problem reported above.
HOWEVER, there must be a setting (I hope) which we can change, I find it very irritating that as soon as I make a call, the screen goes blank, and you have to double-click the power button to see what is happening. If anyone knows about such a setting, please let us know!
My screen went black about an hour ago.
After Hotspotting for 40ish minutes so I could use my iPhone on the way to work on the train, I tried to check this forum with my Z5C, the back of it was really hot & after a few minutes, the screen went black & the phone was unresponsive for around 20 seconds & then basically unusable once it came back on, for another 20ish seconds, due to lag.

Did you ever find a resolution for this? it is driving me crazy, I've tried factory resets, software repairs via the Sony Companion and this still occurs, sometimes it won't happen for a week then sometimes it happens multiple times in a row even straight after a reboot. The fix that RohitMayor describes does not work on my device. This phone is really terrible compared to the Z3 Compact
I have the same issue. This pb occurs since i have update my phone to 6.0.1...
Any solution ?
Anyone else experiencing lag on their g5 mine continually struggles to wake sometime needing a good thirty seconds to spring to life?
Also the you tube app continually stutters and freezes up the phone whether connected to fibre broadband or 4g?

Yes, I actually made a solution for it in the Questions forum, but nobody else seemed to have the issue or care. I found that the wake lag occurs when you try to wake too soon after locking.
I found a very strange solution, but it works: Everytime your phone turns on from being off, you must change your lockscreen wallpaper. This can be to anything. You can even set the same one again. This process has to be repeated at every boot, but it completely solved the issue on my Verizon G5.
To test it out, just lock your screen and double tap to unlock immediately. Shouldn't be lag.

Have you also had the problem with the you tube app? I'm Also finding a lot of other apps crash resulting in an error report and restart of the app?

No I haven't, sorry! You may need a factory reset or could have downloaded a bad app, not totally sure.
I've noticed over the past 2 weeks or so that all of a sudden the phone sometimes doesn't bother with the lock screen. I'll double tap to wake and it'll go right to the home screen (or to whatever app I was in last). This happens with or without notifications. I thought it was something caused by Evolve because it seemed to stop once I cleared data/froze it with Titanium but it's started back up again.
Running Android M, rooted, with Xposed. However, I have not installed any new modules or done any system updates during this time. All of the phone settings look correct, and are unchanged, and there isn't a setting for 'skip the lockscreen like 30% of the time' anyway.
Anyone have any ideas? Could it be an app causing this? I believe those are the only things that have been updated.
Something like Greenify?
Any ideas on where to start troubleshooting would help. Thanks.
Still fighting with this. Anyone else? Removed everything I could find that wasn't being used. Wiped data for lockscreen settings. Wiped cache/dalvik. At a loss here. It's really annoying!
Only thing I can think of is that Power Key Instantly Locks is turned off.

it's on, and lock timer is set to immediately.
doesn't seem to have any relation to time. sometimes I'll pick the phone up after an hour and it'll go right in without the lock screen.

Sorry, I don't have any other ideas. Maybe someone else can be better help.
Still driving me nuts. I thought I had solved it by turning off 'battery optimizations' for anything always-on/lock screen related but that wasn't the answer. Reflashed the rom, still having the issue. Might need to reflash with a full wipe I guess.
I'd rather just move to Nougat but I can't get xposed to work properly. Life is hard haha.
in case anyone finds this thread when dealing with the same issue: Android Wear was the culprit. wakelock detector pointed me in that direction and once i uninstalled it, the problem stopped immediately and has not returned.
