Unhelpful post title, you won't elect much help.
Dialer codes for the S3 are all in a thread you've have to search for, I've not seen one for minutes balance.

Correct?
Try another sim card .

Two entirely unhelpful responses so far, maybe I can at least get you looking in the right direction. In Settings --> About phone --> Status, is your correct IMEI displayed?
If not, you have have a problem with your /efs. A search of these forums will bring you back some guides, some of which will tell you to try GSII_

If I understood your problem correct, jammudassir I just want to let you know that I too had this problem a couple of months after I got my phone.
Long story short it was a hardware issue so I took it to an official Samsung repair centre to have its mainboard changed. Works like a charm now!
-However you should check if its maybe just a software issue...just to avoid all the hassle

So. I've had my S3 for quite awhile now currently on 3 network. Something really odd happened though.
I was able to use it normally in the morning, once I got to the afternoon it I lost all network.
The only thing that I can use to connect to anything is Wifi
Usually there would be a little "H" symbol next to my signal bar when it's full. Now there is nothing but the full signal bar.
When I pull the notification bar down I see a Emergency calls only though I have full signal
I've gone into Settings>More settings>Mobile networks>Network operators to see if I can find a way to connect. I can choose from the networks on screen. Yet it tells me Unable to connect. Try later. I select "Select automatically" which doesn't help either, as it tells me "Registered on network" WHAT NETWORK?!
The Network mode is on Auto
My Mobile Data is on.
My Apn is on "3 WAP"
I've tried rebooting the phone.
Restoring to factory settings.
Turning phone to Flight mode then off again.
Re-inserting Sim.
I've even rooted the phone to see if it would work!!
Can anyone help me solve this ridiculous puzzle? :crying:
Thank you for your time.
Mine is the same. On 3UK in Leicester

Last time I hd this issue, it was caused by a faulty SIM.
I think you have some really bad news. I looks like your efs folder is messed up.
you need send it back if in warranty.
otherwise you can get it repaired from some service centre. They will use SPT or some other repair tool to fix this issue.
You see full bars because you phone uses any available signals for SOS call.
Otherwise it will not lock to network.

Hi! since you are new here, have you read the Forum Rules? not that you've done something wrong but just to get you informed
Here are some suggestions i can give you
okay. if ONE fails, do TWO. if TWO fails, do THREE. if THREE fails, do FOUR.
ONE: reboot
TWO: try doing factory reset (don't forget to backup) / wiping caches
THREE: root your phone and flash another modem
FOUR: contact your network service provider about this matter
i hope this helps Cheers!
samsung galaxy s3 i9300 sim registers but only emergency calls
In my case (sgs3) the problem was caused by the fact that I also formatted the efs partition (something used by Samsung to store hardware identifiaction like IMEI, ...).
If efs is empty/gone/changed(?), the phone will be unable to make regular calls: only emergency calls will be available!
Peace!

why exactly did you resurrect a 4 months old thread?
Cos people run into the same problem all the time and that no permanent/clear solution is available. Any info is good, even if it's just to say that there is no solution yet

But this efs issue has been answered many, many times in the forum - usually people wrecking their £500 phone because they didn't read or understand what they were doing.
This forum is messy enough without needlessly bumping long dead threads that didn't have anything of use in. If people want really helpful information they should read the all-in-one sticky in the general forum.

Ok you're right, everyone should read sticky notes and try keep the forum tidy. Look, I don't want to go too off-track here but this problem is not just limited to Samsung handsets. I'm seeing similar reports about Sony's, which is what i've got. And there is no efs partition that can be saved on a sony because they don't come with one. I'm beginning to suspect that the problem might be with ICS/JB and this is why it's poping up on different phones/threads, with different roms etc.

why are you spamming this all over? this thread is 4 months old
Hi,
I installed the PACman 20.1.0 ROM for i9300 some days back along with Yank555 v1.5b kernel. Till yesterday, I had no problems with the ROM. Worked smooth as butter.
I usually use the internet on 2G/Edge and switch to 3G only when I need to browse. But since yesterday, whenever I switch to 3G, I lose total network coverage. However, on switching back to 2G, the network returns and I can use edge.
I have scoured the internet for a solution but could not find one. There is also no dedicated thread for PACman in the Q&A section.
Anyone know a solution?

Is your APN listed and are the settings correct? Otherwise restore a cwm backup to get 3G working again (assuming you made one).

APN settings are predefined by the carrier. I got EDGE running anyway. What usually happens is if there is no 3G coverage, it switches to EDGE and once the coverage is available, it switches back to 3G. The last part isn't happening.
Could this be a carrier fault? I have spoken to the Customer Care but they seem to find no problem.

Power down the phone and remove and insert the simcard, sometimes that helps.

Look on you carriers`s webpage for the apn settings, delete the current apn you`re using and create a new one with the settings from the webpage.
If that doesn`t help maybe a new simcard fixes your problem

Thanks a lot guys. Turns out the idiots over at Vodafone have disabled to core services. Sorry for the trouble.
Problem: I am in EE network in UK and they have got 2 available networks called in my phone "T-mobile" and "T-mobile Orange". When I am on "T-mobile Orange" it is very slow in my area during all day. When I manually switch to "T-mobile" network the connection is much better (still not perfect, 3 years ago was much much better). Thing is that phone will change network again to "T-mobile Orange" after some time or when I will change location or with another weird unknown reason for me. I have tried to change network whenever I could so maybe next time when I will be in that spot it will choose "T-mobile" over "T-mobile Orange", but no luck. It randomly changes to "T-mobile Orange" almost every time when I do not look on my phone just to annoy me .
Question: Does anyone know how to change that???
I have rooted phone, if it helps.
Please help.

If you want help you must provide relevant info - and also be able to think a little for yourself!
Have you done anything special to the phone before that? Like programming a ROM in Odin?
Is the IMEI in place?
im new to the s3 and dont have a clue about what anything is. ive never done anything to it.....

Hi I think this may be an issue in some parts of the world, but not all. I have regular signal cuts like this in South Africa, but generally only when I'm in an area with weak cell signal. My wife also has a S3 LTE and gets the same signal cuts. When it happens I reboot my phone and it's fine again. I even went back to stock to test and it still happens on stock, just as it did when I first got the phone in November 2012.
I've been on AOSP roms the last few months and then it was fine, no signal cuts. Same with my wife's phone. Now I'm back on stock and the signal cuts are back, albeit not so often anymore, maybe one or two a week. I'm going to run stock for a few weeks and see if the issue persists.
What modem are you using? Have you changed it or is it the same modem that came with your phone?

a MODEM IS A MODULATOR DEMODULATOR . basically the bit that connects to the network .
Modem = Baseband .
\Suggest one factory reset two if that fails service centre and three read the basic faqs and guides .
