So, I've read EVERY post on rooting and adding recovery to my phone with unsuccessful results every time. I'm running FM 14.1. B.2.257
Is there something I'm missing?
I was able to unlock the bootloader, so I'm good there but the rest
Any ideas?

You'll have to give us some more than that. You're on 257 and you've unlocked the bootloader? Aaaand? What have you done or/and tried?
downgrade to .532 and use the japanese rootkit.

Yes, but with more limited options than unlocking bootloader. Now we have working recovery but requires unlocking bootloader. Recovery w/o unlocking bootloader is still in progress, check the original android development section.

thanks; I know I have read that unlocking the bootloader currently disables some features in the phone, but I am sure its only a matter of time till the fantastic devs get that sorted out..plus, once they announce who is carrying this phone in the US, there will be ALOT more people, including devs, jumping on board! :good:
Mine is rooted with vroot and i m not sure will it lost DRM keys or not.

You need to go back to 532 first before you can root:
Use this guide for that part:

You can't root 257. You have to downgrade to 532 first, root, possibly change the CDA (if you don't get the OTA update), update through OTA, and you're done.
So...
- Find a 532 ROM here.
- Flash the 532 build using Flashtool.
- Root it using this tool.
- If you don't get the OTA update, follow this guide and change your CDA.
- Install OTA Root Keeper from the Play Store.
- Once the OTA is available, download it.
Congratulations, you're on 257 again and you're rooted. This is it, and there's plenty of helpful threads here if you SEARCH, so please search before you ask. Answering questions all day long isn't our job.
EDIT: God damn it, @shaolin95, i just wasted 4 minutes on my "Rooting Guide For Dummies"

I believe so on 4.3 (.290)
As time goes on this might be the only way to get root - the more secure Sony/Google (or any OEM) make android the harder it will be to find exploits to gain root.
Did you tried like this
1.Before update simply open superuser settings 2.scroll down to the bottom enable Pro 3.check survival mode 4.uncheck Enable superuser 5.install ota update 6.after reboot enable superuser
LordManhattan and blueether is correct. Tried 3 times what chemcup suggested and the ota update just would stop halfway... Hopefully that they would go easier on the next upcoming update...

- Unlock the bootloader
- Flash 290
- Flash modified kernel via fastboot
- DO NOT relock the bootloader, the phone won't boot otherwhise.

If you haven't unlock the bootloader. There is some chance.

Nope not yet. But I just did some searching it seems that there is no way to root a z2 without unlocking the bootloader. And the ta partition cannot be backedup. Which hence I will lose the warranty. Am I.. right?
For now. Yes. Maybe near future some genius will find the way rooting w/o unlock the bootloader. Wait for it if you don't want lose your warrenty. But it's worth lose it and have fun. Up to you. Think Carefully.

There is currently no way to backup your TA partition as there is no rooting method for locked bootloaders yet.

Yes! To root your phone, first, you need to downgrade to rootable firmware which is jb 4.1.2, (there's so many rooting methods that works in that version) then after rooting you can backup ta partition. Search for the procedures and read carefully and follow the instructions, it's all here in xda forum

Hey mate. Z2 can't be downgraded to 4.1.2 as box open firmware is kitkat ...... Aren't you confusing it with Xperia Z or something like that? It is Z2 forum.... not for other. And 4.4 is still rootable no need to downgrade. It just requires you to unlock bootloader.
Sorry! You're right. I just check out. My mistake.
First of all, I'm spanish, my apologizes of my expresions or misspelling.
That's what I've done:
1 - I've checked if my bootloader was unlockable, and my phone say's: NO
2 - Then I've installed the DualRecovery W/O root and with my phone bootlocked.
3 - Then I've tryed to flash CM11 in TWRP recovery, flashing first the Boot.img via fastboot.
4 - Device in Red Light.
What I can do to woke up my Z2? That's my record 2 hrs to **** my phone. :silly:
Firstly, it's stated in the first post of the CM11 thread that you shouldn't be using dual recovery. If you read the thread further, you'll see that it is recommended to use the recovery in DooMKernel to flash. And this requires unlocked bootloader.
Anyways, you can try using Flashtool to flash a stock firmware. Might be able to recover your phone.

If your BL is locked, you cannot install CM.... coz you cannot install a custom kernel. you should rebuild your phone using SEUS to put a good ROM.
Then you can put whatever ROM you want for LB and root it. but no custom kernel.

Hi there,
Is there any way to get root access without unlocking the bootloader. I found some ways in XDA but nothing is clear.
I would really appreciate if you guys can send me a link with a clear tutorial of how to get a new ROM without unlocking the bootloader.
I just got my Z2 which is sim locked (UK) and I can't unlock the bootloader from the official page.
Many thanks,

second: I can't unlock my bootloader forever ??
and third: What is the function of recovery mode if I can't flash any cRom? Just backups?
Thanks all ^^

You can download a Generic FTF and use flashtool to flash it to your device
Once you unlock your bootloader it stays unlock till you relock
You can flash roms n manage general other stuff from recovery
