With the USB I presume that is not possible.
But you can connect using the wireless.
In this case, the phone connects to the internet using 3G or similar and you connect you computer to the phone using wifi wireless connection.

Search for tethering in the market.
EasyTether seams to be very good. And no root needed.
I use Barnacle wifi to set up an adhoc wifi network, works great and is free, but does require root.

It is possible with easy tether app. I use it. With the free version one can access all free sites. For secured sites one need to have the paid version. Its very easy to setup.
Thanks
hi...i usually connect my lg optimus 2x to PC with USB and use computer's internet connection (reverse USB teethering). but i want to know if its possible to force telephone that it thinks that it is connected to wi-fi, while using 3g data connection. i want use that especially when games want to download data over the wifi...
If your device is rooted, you could get a wireless hotspot app from the market, start the hotspot on your phone, then connect to it (connect your device to itself ).
I don't think you can connect to your own hotspot.
Accidentally sent from my Google Nexus S using XDA Premium
tried but its not working..i think that androids dont support wifi multitasking like iphones do,so they cant receiving and teethering connection at the same time..

iphone doesnt support wifi tether lol...
you can just grad a wifi hotspot phone and load your sim in. share the network to your device and enjoy...
it is quite annoying when it doesnt let me use my data for gameloft game data download too.

The iPhone does support wifi tethering (not trying to defend it though ).

Actually you can. I've said that before to other people who wanted to download gameloft data and for some other purposes which require wifi, and it worked.
I want to do this too.... but the Mobile Hotspot app on my phone turns off WiFi if it is one, and if I turn on Wifi while Mobile Hotpsot is on, it disables the Hotspot.
Any other solution ? An app maybe ? A tweak ?
what wifi hotspot app was used?.. and to the OP, how did you reverse tether via usb?

You can use this to reverse tether: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345.
On my desire you can have activated only wirelles or only hotspot, i think the same wirelles adapter is used for it, so it wouldnt be possible.

How? I've been searching for a workaround to this for some time now.
Please tell me how...
I have a rooted Bionic, Eclipse ICS 4.0.4. I use FoxFi Full version for my hotspot. I need my phone to connect to the mobile hotspot it's currently transmitting. (I think that's what I need)
Why? I want an advanced ability to monitor who is using my mobile hotspot, using DroidSheep to monitor what they're using the connection for. Trouble is, DroidSheep (And al similar programs) only work if the phone (with the app) is actually connected to the wifi network. It won't work if it's the one transmitting the signal.

You just have one wifi Modul it can be a hot spot or it can be connected to a Router.
Both together isn't possible.
Else you could also use it as wifi repeater

Hi All,
I have a old laptop which is not supporting wifi, I am using network cable to connecting internet on the laptop. also I am using wifi modem on my home to share internet to computer and my android mobile.
My question is, can i able to use my android mobile as data card to share wifi connection to my old laptop ???
Thanks,
didnt get you, first you said that your laptop doesnt support Wifi
and again you're saying that u want to share your phone's net via wifi hotspot?
be more specific
Whilst I've never tried to use it the Neo supports USB tethering so yes sharing a connection from phone to the PC through USB should definitely be possible.

I don't think a WiFi router, which you have, will can act as a WiFi receptor, So that is quite hopeless.. But you can still use USB tethering to just connect your phone via USB and get connected to the Internet.
[ICS]
go to Settings>More...>Tethering & portable hotspot> USB tethering

Tethering means that you can use ONLY TO SHARE internet from Android to PC,it's not working to share Internet from PC to Android. (that is called reverse tethering).

How can you use Wi-Fi adapter on old laptop ???
Plug it into the usb.......
It must have one of them right?
Sent from my MT11i using Tapatalk
It works exactly like a Bluetooth adapter, insert the bluetooth adapter into usb port, and you have bluetooth on your pc. With wi-fi adapter it's the same thing, insert it in usb port and you'll have wi-fi capabilities (both ways: phone-pc and pc-phone).I'm currently using an usb adapter to share internet from pc to phone.
i think i get what hes asking
is it possable to use the wifi from the phone over usb so not useing data from mobile network
You mean u want to use ur phone as a wifi adapter? There is an app called PdaNet for that.
New version:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pn.helper&hl=en
Old version:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pdanet&feature=related_apps#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwOSwiY29tLnBkYW5ldCJd(not recommended)
I have been trying to do the same thing but unsuccessfully.
Basically my phone is connected to the internet through wifi, and I want to share this via bluetooth.
The problem seems to be that with android, tethering can only share your 3g/4g but not wifi.
Apparently apps such as pdanet, foxfi, can solve this, but i havent been able to get it to work =(
Guys have any of you u shared your laptops internet connection to the phone? via WiFi or a USB cable? Im sure a smartphone of this generation should be able to do something like this but Im just not able to figure how.
I have an unlimited Internet connection on my PC so it would be nice if I could get the same on my mobile for browsing when home.
Please help.
Not to the phone, but from the phone.
Not sure how you would turn your laptop into a hotspot?
Set up an Ad-Hoc wireless network on your laptop.
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using xda premium
Well, tried ad-hoc, it dint work. Tried connectify, that dint work either.
Then got to know about the windows program mhotspot from mhotspot.com. It has turned my laptop into a virtual wifi hotspot through which my mobile can connect to the net through.
Good for those who have a limited or slow data connection on their phone.
connectify works in my laptop
Connectify works perfectly fine for me too... What error do you get, mate?
any tutorial for conectify? noob sorry

@OP: what you're looking for is called reverse tethering. Search for it, there are lots of solutions.

Hello everyone, i am having a doubt regarding sharing of LAN connection. my college lab has got a high speed internet connection and often i do connect my laptop to access the internet through the LAN cable. I am just wondering if i can create a wi-fi hotspot in my lapy and use my grand quattro to use this hotspot. I tried some software like virtual router, connectify etc..but unfortunately none of them worked for me. by using these two software i was able to create the hotspot and even grand quattro was connected to the hotspot and wi-fi icon in the status bar was also blinking...but could not access the net..may be i was messing up with some settings:...any idea regarding this problem?:fingers-crossed: Any other method available?
