Sleep Vs Shutdown ? Sony Xperia Tablet Z - Xperia Tablet Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi what mode do you keep your tablet in when not using it ? As this whole last week, my tablet has been sleeping and im thinking is it worth me leaving it on sleep ? While im not using the tablet ? As i do lose about 6% battery over 14 hour period.. So my question is shall i shut the Sony Xperia Tablet Z down or leave it too sleep ? What do you guys and gals do ?

I keep my me in sleep mode all the time but just toggle the Airplane mode On when I am done for the day. It will dramatically increase your battery life! When ready to use just switch it back to WiFi.

Hello,
That's right that "shutdown & start" decreases battery, but long sleep gives me problems like slower wifi or unstable, slower apps, lags,...
I think it depends which apps/widgets you have.
We use multi-users.
The tablet is not rooted, everything is "Sony official" (not like on Xperia S that needed to be... refreshed).

Vinz

You can always shut it down before you start charging it and when it's done you got fresh start and full battery.

Hi !
Updated answer
With the updated tablet
Since the new version of Android, you probably noticed that shutting down takes a long long time...
So, now, I use Sleep mode BUT I cut Wifi before. It changed my way to use the tab because my battery is better and I didn't notice any lags, Wifi problems,...

I leave mine to sleep, loose 0% overnight with stamina mode enabled, If i shut it down and restart in the morning it looses about 3-5% during shutdown and rebooting.

Stamina mode really does work! Don't forget to enable it. I think there is no need to go into airplane mode but I do it regardless and battery life is really good!

Xperia Sola battery drop 5% per hour without use, is it normal?

Dear Brothers & Sisters,
My new Xperia Sola's battery drop 5% per hour without any use. 3G data is on, but background data is off (as i have started the power save mode).
Background running app only facebook and whatapps, is it normal that battery drop 5% per hour with screen off ?
Thanks!
doesnt matter if backdround data is off, facebook WILL try to update the timeline in the cycle you've set it to. so yea pretty normal to me as the sola doesnt have a huge battery.
Same problem here too!
Even if you don't use your phone still the battery drops almost at a constant rate of 4% to 6% and that is very annoying. Hoping Sony would fix this issue with their next OS update.
But sola users have an extreme advantage of fast charging. Sola charges itself about 12% in hardly 10mins. Thats the better part
Sent from my MT27i
Hey guys,
5% an hour is 20 hours. to me that is pretty dam good. i used to get about 16 - 18 out of my arc S. with everything on.
Your Data connection is a mega killer weather or not you have background data on or not. it is the connection to the tower that drains the battery.
my arc is now just a phone for work and without the 3g on I get over a week out of it.
we all need to remember that these phones are not like the old nokia's and stuff. modern phones need modern charging habits
Pvy.
You shoud deactivate LiveWare widgets and services because it consumes a huge amount of power. Sometimes I get even +48 hours of standby on my Xperia U.
Try this out! It worked for me!
Okay! I fiddled with my phone a bit to improve battery life and it did work!
Go to settings> Applications> running
check the applications using a lot of RAM and has been using the phones active state for long time. Delete those useless apps. Also apps which connect to the internet uselessly consume a lot of battery!
It worked for me! Now my phone discharges just about 2-3% in 6 hours. Its because earlier my phone wasnt going into deep sleep mode where it consumes the least battery!
Now its battery standby has boosted up a lot!.
I'm happy now!
Try and tell me whether it worked for you guys or not!
Yeah. Disable Bravia display, reduce brightness, switch off data and WiFi, kill useless running background apps, disable widgets. I lose 2% battery in 6 hours in standby mode. I do these before sleeping and its damn effective. Also root ur phone n install autokiller memory optimizer and set aggressive values. This enhances phone speed and also battery is improved

Well the smart thing to do is to turn on the extra stuff only when needed. It's still a smartphone even when gps is turned off for example

Battery on Xperia P

Anybody can report about battery on Xperia P? Is it have long time when we use it?

It's terrible mate. I'm returning mine to Sony. Was on 17% at 4pm, unplugged at 7am with moderate use.
Sent from my LT22i using xda app-developers app
I'm very satisfied with the battery life. I keep mobile data off except for about 1 hour per day, otherwise use wifi. Bluetooth is on whenever I'm in the car.. 2 or 3 phone calls per day on average, 5-10 text messages.
My battery usually lasts 3 days.
i will not believe this unless you post battery history screenshot.
My battery last no longer than 36 hours (from 100% to turn off) when i don't use my phone almost at all, with moderate use (3-5 calls and 10 sms), i unplug from charger in the morning and plug it back at the evening
Battery is realy good on Xperia NXT series compared to other Android devices. On my Xperia U it usualy last for 3-4 days, and it charges realy fast
Ok thanks all guys, i just want to know because i need to move to Xperia P today!!! I saw someone post their opinion that only 2hours battery life on Xperia P!!!
Sent from my MT27i using xda premium
Here's a screenshot with my average useage. It lasts more then 2 days for me.
Also ICS on xperia P has a new standby mode, then you can stay like 1week with this if you dont use your phone, even with "normal use" you can stay like 4days
I hands Xperia P now all Say Hello to me please ^^

I am nearly always connected to wifi and I set up Juice defender in a way that it disables mobila data when connected to wifi based on location. So the straight answer is: yes.
Where is the battery history of Xpeira P?
I can't find it!
BTW I have examined battery graph/history of many android phones. this one is a bit strange.

6.1.A.2.45 not entering deep sleep?

Hi all,
I am using ics standard firmware 6.1.A.2.45 with advanced stock kernel build 14 but it seems my phone is not deep sleeping, I lost about 20% battery over night, see screenshot attached, I had power saver mode on with everything switched off. Shouldn't phone idle % be higher?
Anyone have any suggestions please on how to fix this?
Thanks for any help.

Hey turn off internet connection if on or just check there might be apps that are running in the background.
Just go to Settings-->Apps-->Running
There u can see all the apps that are running and close all the unnecessary applications.
I hope this might work for you.
Theres no such problem wid my XPS.
5-8% drainage of battery overnight is normal.
My XPS ate about 3-5% battery in 7hrs last night.
Not a problem with mine.. Did a clean install, wiped everything and then did a hard reset.. Mine drains 1% mostly overnight, and rarely 2%..
Try a factory reset, or re-flash wiping everything..:good:
P.S : it's offline during those 6-7 hours
Some says that disabling "com.sonyericsson.android.wakeup" can help saving little bit of battery. I just frozen it and will see if there is any improvement. I have this issue too in my XS, it never enter sleep mode even with everything off (connectivity, screen, sync, etc). Markus on Sony forum said that they're working on it...
Brand New LT30p Tap-A-Talked
Just to make sure.
Use CPU spy app to check if your phone goes to. Deep sleep.

[Q] Xperia U - Drains battery very quickly

My dad's Xperia U used to last around 4-5 days with a bit of Wi-Fi, 40% brightness and a call a day. Battery would go down to 15-20%.
Now as you unplug the charger it goes from 100% to 96% instantly. After using it for half a second the battery went down to 93%. Wi-Fi is off, brightness is set to 30% and Auto-Sync is OFF. What do I do? It's not rooted and it's running Stock Gingerbread 2.3.7
Quick replies will be appreciated.
Additional Info: The phone is under warranty and it was purchased about 2 months ago.
Try calibrate the battery

It has nothing to do with dev support......
To the point now.....
Have you charged it till our showed charged and then disconnected or you waited for another half an hour and then disconnected.....
Try charging with fone switched off till it's fully charged plus half an hour more....
After you find this drop in battery did you restarted your fone????
Sent from my Xperia Sola using xda app-developers app
I charged it to 100% while the phone was on, plus about 20-30 minutes more. I unplugged it and the battery went down to 96% instantly. Whereas it used to stay on 100% for about a day. I've restarted the phone recently but no difference. I'll try charging it when its off.

In my opinion its good to send it to repair center mate, it can be a battery problem.
same thing happened on my Samsung Galaxy Y, so i disregarded battery full indication, when battery showed full i restarted. left to charge and did it again if problem persisted. problem disappeared gradually.
Thank you everyone!

had the same problems with the stock rom after installing a custom all this problem are gone
have all the time wifi on
Question
Hi to all
My xperia u does something quite weird. I can't get my battery to last more than one day. I tried different roms, kernels with governors and my battery seems to drain and the main consumer is my screen _ about 65 % while any other process doesn't pass over 15%. Has anybody conflicted with this problem?
How do I get it fixed? Do I need to buy another battery?
PS: I don't have warranty hence the unlocked bootloader

Decrease your brightness and turn of Mobile Bravia Engine if you don't need it. I have three Xperia U's in my house and two of them used to have the problem. Turned the brightness down to 30% and it resolved it. Also I charge it to 100% and kill it down to complete 0% by heavy usage. Try this. Works with laptops and phones.

maybe apps cause the battery drain fast even you tried turn off every communication ....or the battery already leak...
try turn on stamina mode ....
kill some useless(not use at all) apps...
maybe reinstall stock JB back may help solve this issue ....
if this issue still happen I suggest you to send Xperia P to sony central (last option)..
Imo there is something installed that is sucking the battery, i suggest you to do factory reset and am sure it will be good.

Well, battery drain issue can't be solved on Xperia P. Running on 1500mAH battery with a Dual Core processor, 1GB RAM, White Magic Display, the Xperia P can't provide that battery life one would expect. But as you said 86 -> 69 -> 18 is something very unusual. Try flashing the ROM again or repairing it with SUS. If it don't solve the problem, contact SONY and confirm that you are using a battery which is not damaged.
