[Q] Serial in Android - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm some noob to Android and wondering about the files and directories I found out that there's a file in /dev called tty, so I wonder if I can use something like this:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",

}
For using serial devices to comunicate with apps and I don't know using that for configuring routers by a HyperTerminal console, just wondering.
It's possible, someone tried it?

Seriosly, in the mother of god Android forum with a lot of users, no one ever tried to make Serial devices work with Android?

Good god, no. I've probably touched a cd/dvd more recently than I've handled a device with those kinds of plugs and when I did I was literally throwing them in a dumpster. The few crazy things I've seen here on XDA are being done over USB.

That's a VGA cord. The new version of that cord is an HDMI cord. I'm not sure what you're trying to do with it?

No, this is a VGA plug.
See that 6 and 10 pins are different than serial. Common error.

Probably your cable assuming your TV is set to the right input, I just plug mine in and the display is mirrored.
Well, my buddy has a prime and i let him borrow the wire and he says his is working. So now is my prime defected?
There are multiple threads addressing incompatibility with some tvs.
I suggest you have your friend try his prime on your tv or you on his.
Also, use the search function to find the other threads covering this and compare your tv with the lists.

Xperia Tablet S Remote Control app

Xperia Tablet S Remote Control app is supposed to have macros etc and overall to be superior.
I wonder whether .apk will work on the "regular" Tablet S.

Yes.
10 cm is too far away. Should be 2-3.
If it still does not work, your IR receiver is broken and needs to be fixed.

WinMo8 ROM?

Are there any plans to port a functional WinMo8 OS to the Rezound?
Just thought it would be interesting.
Doubt it's even remotely possible. WinMo is closed source. The best you might see is a theme.
Short answer: no.

... i dont think that winmo anything should be put on an android device... kind of defeats the purpose of buying the android doesnt it?
The Windows Phone OS itself is closed and can't be ported, but if you search the play store for Windows tiles or Windows theme or Windows lock screen you will find some stuff that will make android look and act like WP, to a degree.

Install windows 8 on Samsung galaxy II

Hi there,
Is it possible to install windows 8 on Samsung galaxy II?
After trying Android for the past 3 months I can surly say that it is not such good OS.
It’s full of bugs and keeps crashes all the time.
If it is not possible to install windows 8 on it will it be possible to install Symbian instead…
Regards,
Sep
Epic first post, looking forward to more from you.

At least it`s not possible now. If you want Windows 8, sell your device and buy a Windows Phone.
For me it`s the other way around, I think that Windows 8 is pretty ugly compared to Android. And Android doesn`t crash all the time, at least not on my device.

Even if it could happen, OP, it wouldn't work nearly as well as the Android OS you're trying to get rid of.

USB Host Mode on Sense Rom with screenshots

So I came across something earlier today that I have been searching for forever. USB Host Mode for Sense! Here is the link that will help. Special thanks to whoever posted it on TheMikMik site.

I was able to get it to work by adding "/mnt/usb" without quotes under settings in the USB Host Controller app.

X2
I am currently using Stock with Goodies 2.28 Rom by Flex360 and using Evil Z 7rc Kernal from Team Blackout.
Sometimes the app does not automatically mount my device, but I can confirm that an 8GB USB drive and a SD in a multi reader work fine.
Sent from my EVO
OK so I created a quick walkthrough and took a few screenshots from start to finish. (Assuming you have added the "/mnt/usb" (my preference).
Here is the OTG cable I use. Couple bucks from Amazon.

You will get this "Can not Charge" error.
Open the USB host app (after you plug in the OTG with device) you will notice the progress busy for about a minute.
After processing you should see this screen.
Click the USB tab and you should see your connected device.
Click on bottom option, you should get a selection screen. Choose Reload Partition Table.
You should see "SDA1" (or equivalent) now listed.
Click SDA1 and select mounting point (I only have "/mnt/usb" since I removed the default ones from settings and had only added this one).
The device is now mounted!
Using your file management app of choice (in my case ES file explorer) navigate to the mounting point you have chosen. And enjoy!
