dont know if this is the right place to post my question but since im a noob the forum doesn't let me post anywhere else and this is the first time ive posted here because i usually find what im after in this forum so thanks for that !
ive read alot about the Read Write issues being experienced with Google's Android unwilling to let you use your external SD card for storage of Apps and writing to it , ive followed some tutorials about the net and even tried jamisons pre-rooted Rom for SM-T120 and everytime i get nowhere with it all .. my tab3 is now rooted but i cant write to the card .. is this going to be possible or does anyone know something i haven't tried ...
so i will tell you what ive tried for now
editing permissions.xml
loading the pre-rooted firmware
changing permissions to vold.fstab file
is there something out there !
thanks for any suggestions and help .. much appreciated Paul :good:
im running 4.1.2 Android Version and its Rooted - Build JZ054K.T210XXAMG2
I think that is not enough. I did the same ... in my research I came across the void.fstab in some devices is possible in the galaxy 3 do not know what the correct code.
I found universal files vold.fstab, but without success

I may have just found a solution , the root method is fine by jamison ... then once that has been flashed and the tablet has restarted , go into oden again and flash the CWM recovery the same way as you do for the pre rooted firmware .. then follow these instructions i found posted by stefan !
Ok, I fixed the issue:
- Mounted USB storage (external SD) in CWM
- Backed up all files from my external SD (except a strange folder named µATA, which could not be read at all)
- Formatted the external SD under Windows
- Copied back my files to the external SD
- Restarted Android
Now the external SD is mounted r/w. Also in Root Explorer I can see that the external SD is r/w and not r/o as before.
hope this works for you as i think its working for me as ive just been able to delete a folder from widows via the USB cable .. where i didnt have access before

The device recognizes the sd as storage for apps?
I always had access to my sd on windows with USB cable, except in recovery, i use the TWRP, in recovery i can't mount SD with USB cable, but i think is an issue of TWRP or CWM.
My problem is to enable the move app to sd or recognize it has internal memory. I know that in SGS3 is possible to recognize sd card as internal memory changing the script in vold.fstb, in tab 3 it should not be so different.
PS: is a shame... i can't post links yet .

Hi Folks,
I've a problem and I hope some of you guys can help me. I tried to install the latest nightly build of CyanogenMod on my SGS2 and unfortunally, my phone won't boot anymore.
I've got several backups from my phone I made using CWM Backup on my Harddrive but I am just able to copy them to my external SD card. However, CWM only finds backups on the internal SD card.
My question now is: How can I make CWM to look for backups on the external card or else: Is it possible to move to backups to the internal card (Keep in mind: I'm unable to boot).
I didn't find related issues on the board, so any help is appreciated!
Regards,
Manuel
i dont have the answer to your question but i'll share my similar experience of trying to flash cm rom. After unsuccesfully flashing cm rom (device wont boot anymore) i've downloaded a stock rom on my pc and flash it thru odin (entering downloading mode HOME + VOL- + POWER ).Once the device came back to life i just go on and continued experiencing
Hi Guys,
I'm sorry, I really did not want to bother you. However, I solved the problem by myself. The hint that helped me out can be found on androidforums.com.
I did not know that you are able to connect your pc to your phone (as a mass storage device) from CWM Recovery itself (see linked post). After copying the backup to my internal storage via USB, I was able to restore it using CWM Recovery.
Nevertheless, thanks for all the other useful tipps on this forum, I'm so glad to have my phone back! Amazing...
Greets,
Manuel
PS: I'm not yet allowed to post links here, but the post mentioned can be found on androidforums.com under "> Android Phones > Samsung Galaxy S2 > Galaxy S2 - All Things Root > Semi Bricked Help!" Post #9: "Boot into recovery, connect to the PC via USB, go to "mounts and storage" and select "mount USB storage"." After that your device is recognized by your os as a mass storage device.
Boot into CWM, Mount & Storage, Mount USBStorage, plug phone into PC, copy files to internal SD, unplug, flash, voila.
edit: seems im too late x)
Late or not, thanks a lot, mate! ;-)
You see, I'm happy...
BTW: Can I edit the title to prepend a [SOLVED´]?
now that you are back on the road i can reccomand you a CyMode rom tested by me and is the fastest and simplest rom ,worth trying without warrying :

Hi,
I have a similar problem but mine isn't solved - not realising the SGS2 has internal SD storage I've stupidly managed to do a nandroid backup and then format the internal SD. Have tried to mount the storage as mentioned above but the PC doesn't see the internal SD.
Help!!

Hi guys, I'm using CM9 the final build (stable) and I never had any problems with this rom...
But now, I have a real bizarre problem here... I do not know where it came from, but I assume it's because I plugged my device to the computer as Mass Storage device for the first time ever, (I usually use MTP)...
The problem: suddenly I noticed that when I get into my file explorer (no matter which one) within the Internal SD Card I see the contents of the removable memory card (external SD Card)...
On the other hand when I jumped to the External SD Card (removable card) I found that it's had the content of the Internal SD Card ... Bizarre ehh? But Everything works as usual, except my ringtones and stuff like that, I guess because the Paths are changed... Anyway when I connect the device as MTP to the computer and get inside the Internal Storage (with my Windows Explorer) everything is fine! same for the External storage, everything is fine there too!
I guess that somehow the paths to my partitions Mixed up (only for the device itself)...
when I removed the Micro SD card and boot the device, I can see in my file explorer that the path " /mnt/sdcard" is empty!
but when I go to "/mnt/emmc" I can see that all my data is there, the "android" folder and "data" folder and etc.. are there too..
I don't know what to do to get back to normal...
As you can see in my screenshot, the Device thinks that internal memory has 30 GB and the external memory has 11... but the 30GB is my MicroSD card and not my device internal storage...
Can anyone help me plz?

If you know any previous CM9 version or CM9 based Rom you used where the mount point was ok or the way you want, then proceed to next step.
- open the zip of that Rom you downloaded, navigate to /system/etc
- we'll need this file: vold.fstab
- so extract vold.fstab to a location on your phone
-using ROOT browser/explorer, replace vold.fstab in /system/etc folder on your phone with the one you extracted
-change permissions of the new file to rw-r-r (644)
-reboot your phone
Everything should be working well now
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
wow, man thank you very much!
you gave me an idea, I wanted to check if this problem caused by me or if it's came with the Rom...
so I downloaded the latest Nightly to my PC and opened up the .fstab file and I can see that it goes like that:
# internal sdcard
dev_mount emmc /mnt/emmc 11 /devices/platform/dw_mmc/mmc_host/mmc0/mmc0 nonremovable,encryptable
# external sdcard
dev_mount sdcard /mnt/sdcard auto /devices/platform/s3c-sdhci.2/mmc_host/mmc1
so I assume thata I'm not the only one with this "problem" as I can understand, CM team changed that in purpose ?
so maybe other CM9 users also got this?
maybe this is not a peoblem as I was thinking?
anyway I think I'm gonna change it back to Sdcard... I loved it as it was...

OK, I something really weird is going on here...
I installed the latest CM9 rom on my friend's S2 and i can see that the .fstab file on his device is exactly the same as my .fstab file!
same device, same rom , same .fstab file and on my device the internal SD card is the Micro SD and on his device the Internal SD Card is the REAL internal storage?!?
something really weird is going on here... What can I do?
Do I have to Format my device and install some other ROM? because flashing the last CM9 Nightly didn't helped me :\

Ok.
That's weird, really.
Try this:
Goto Settings, storage and press options, select swap mount points.....
Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
I don't have this option...
I have "USB computer connection" and "Storage Configuration"... (CM9 standard).
anyway, I edited that .Fstab file and it seems that everything is ok now... weird cuz as I already said previously, on my friend's device everything is ok without editing that Fstab file...
Dono what is the problem, but I'm glad that everything got back to normal for me.
I tested it in CWM and the mounting is correct, so the External SD is the Micro SD card (my ROMs location ).
thanks again...
Maybe I'll check that Paranoid android you've got in your signature
EDIT:
OK I double checked and no, not everything is ok!
now when I connect my device to my PC as MTP and open it, I see that on my computer the Internal Storage is the MicroSD and the External Storage is the actual internal Memory of my device!!!!!
I'm tired of it... grrrrrr... dono what to do now...
I just installed Beanstalk 4.4 ROM on my Samsung Galaxy S3 i747m. Everything is working fine and I am almost done but I just noticed one peculiar problem which i can't seem to correct.
When i boot into recovery (CWM), the files that i see in SD card is whole different set of files that i see in ES Explorer on phone or on my computer. I tried reinstalling the ROM to no avail. I know the files are there because i used the same files to reinstall ROM and Gapps.
Now, any file i copy to SDcard through computer or download doesn't show in recovery. In system storage, it says I am using 4GB of storage while only showing about 122MB of files. I am only using internal storage and no SD card.
Any help will be really appreciated and let me know if you need more info.
Hey everyone,
I just recently rooted my phone (today) using the method (liquidsmooth 2.37) on the unlockr that uses moborobo and windroid htc rezound toolkit. I am having issues now that the phone doesn't recognize the sd-card. I can mount and unmount it on the settings>storage, I believe I no longer have internal storage anymore. Under Storage I see Internal Storage 2.34GB, then Sd-card 14.82GB, and at the bottom internal storage appears again but no space size is below it. I backed up my stock rom before doing the root, but it was saved to the internal sd-card. And CWM doesn't mount the sd-card so I can even restore to the original. I have seen post about flashing the stock recovery using the all-in-one toolkit. I am not sure have exactly to do this or if that would help. Also for some reason I can no longer connect (debugging, not engaging even thought phone says it is on) to the toolkit ever since I completed the root. I have tried connecting through wifi with thoughts of using the adb commands, but I am not comfortable at all using that method.
Could anyone help fix this. If I can fix the sd mounting issue I would keep the liquidsmooth rom. Also if someone can help me understand how to go back to a stock rom I would gladly do it as well. I have seen several post about flashing RUU's but I am don't entirely understand that process as well.
Sorry if I come across as a complete idiot, I am just not that great with this stuff.
switch storage for sd card
Hey everyone I have been looking into more into my phone. Just elaborate from my first post I went from ICS to JB on the rezound. From several post I have seen is that the storage gets a little weird.
On my phone I can mount the sd card under settings>storage, but the phone doesn't recognize it as the sdcard, but rather as the external_sd (in root explorer). When I try to open sdcard in root explorer it tells me not mounted or can't mount. I believe my phone and all its apps for downloading or storage want to use the sdcard link, but my sd card is appearring as external_sd. How can I tell my phone to recognize my sd card as sdcard (in root explorer) or tell my phone to store in external_sd (where my sd card is appearing right now)?
Thanks for any help.
Hey everyone,
I fixed my issue. After reading several post the issue of losing internal storage is common when changing android versions. I read to flash firmware patch. I did this and I also Read that USB debugging is an issue when super user isn't correct. I downloaded supersu from play, even though liquidsmooth has it built in. I connected to my PC and was connecting. Then after my phone detected internal SD card and said needed to be formatted. I formatted it within the phone boom.! Done!

This is very odd... I have to question whether the initial flash worked properly if su wasn't working, LiquidSmooth is very stable and bug-free ROM. What HBoot, recovery, and radio versions do you have? What "patch" did you flash?

Thank you so much I too flashed the 2.37 Liquid Smooth rom and had the above issue, with nothing being mounted under sdcard, at least in root explorer. When attempting to install some of my larger apps from the play store they would tell me that "APPNAMEHERE" requires external storage for some functionality. Please retry after ensuring that external storage space is available. Again when attempting to enter the sdcard folder under root explorer it would notify me that "the sd card is not currently mounted". Under the mnt folder there was no sdcard just external_sd. While under STORAGE there was sdcard0 and sdcard1. With sdcard0 being completely empty, and sdcard1 just having the files I had put on the removable sd card.
I didn't do anything about firmware, but I did follow your suggestion about reinstalling supersu from the play store then connecting to the computer. Immediately after doing so the phone recognized the sdcard and offered to format it for me, and I can now sdcard is mounted properly again and the folder can be accessed under root explorer. One of the other symptoms of the above is that if I went to phone setting then storage I could see all of my storage both internal and on the external sd card but there was nothing below the external sd card space, where now it has total space for both types below the sd card storage. Again thanks so much I had been banging my head against this wall for days as this is the first time I flashed a rom to my rezound or any android for that matter.
I'm glad my experienced helped someone else, cause like you I had no idea what to do

Mine is a little bit complicated..I'm running the latest liquid smooth rom, my internal storage is detected by file managers(root explorer, xplore file manager). But in the settings/apps/ the internal storage is not present. And liquid smooth seems to be the only rom with this bug.
Hi guys,
My external memory card has all of a sudden become undetectable. Inside root explorer it appears as a file and not a folder. When i try to see its permissions it is set to read only. I changed it to read write but still its not detectable. Moreover it changes to read only on every reboot.
I was on Resurrection Rom v 5.10 so i updated to v5.14 with full wipe. Still the issue remains.
I have searched on google and it appears to be something related to kitkat. I tried a few solutions like running 3rd party media scanners or editing the permission.xml but all in vain
I tried installing other kitkat roms like Neat Rom v5.8 ..now i can see the extSdCard as folder but when i open it its blank...Moreover i can see the permissions set as rwxrwxrwx in root explorer, but if i manually go to set permission for the folder it gives a popup saying "extSdCard permission cannot be set because the file system is read only"
I tried installing stock JB rom via odin but still it didnt help ..
If i try to mount external Sd card from cwm it gives error saying"Can't Mount "
Note: I tried 3 different SD cards and all went undetected where as they were detectable on other phones.
Need help guys.
Attaching few screenshots for better understanding
If you are unable to read the card's data then consider it lost. Connect it to your PC in USB mass storage mode, it should appear as a drive. If you can read the data, take a backup else leave it. Now format your external card using windows.
It should fix the issue for you.
