I think that you can find your firmware on sammobile and flash it on Odin . but i dont think that flashing another modem will unlock your device , that can even cause damage to your device . Dont try to flash zip from another model in any situation

You don't need to downgrade your rom. You can flas a modem even if you don't have root. If you have a custom recovery than just flash the modem.

Better off to say Touchwiz sucks as opposed to 4.1.2 sucks. There are 2 developers that still work 4.1.2 and your going to come off real ungrateful for their efforts. There is not a thing wrong with their ROMs. You just have to know how to fine tune them to your needs. Don't bash them if you can't do it. Just don't run them.
Its not the ROM that bricked your phone

Those arent answers when people are asking questions. If anyone takes the time and reads everything than they wont have to ask questions but that isnt going to happen and thats why forums are created, to help and support and I know i've said this before to you on one of my posts. He asked about downgrading and i said that 4.1.2 sucks. Did i say that the developers or the after market roms suck? No I didn't. I've used several different roms and all the after market roms run much smoother that stock.

Dude, you need to seriously take chill pill. I was quoting you, 4.1.2. Sucks.
I have done nothing but try and help you, including coaching you on your ediquite here. With your clueless way of being vague, you are bad mouthing developers. We are trying to keep them here.
I wasn't the one who recently posted about running a Note 2 ROM on our device. No wonder you bricked yours.

Ok. Don`t know about unlocking stuff. Here is a thread where you can find some stock Roms. The first one is 4.0.3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647756
Just flash the J2 modem and follow the steps.
I had to replace my main board, so I took the ota update, then rooted, then realized I didn't unlock. So I flashed the J2 modem, unlocked, and kept that modem. It didn't do any better than the new modem that came with the update.
This thread turned pretty nasty for such a basic question.
Yeah it did. I flipped my ignore button to the on position and I'm goooood

Go the modem thread and see what people are saying...I know it is a bit to much to read but that is how you will gain knowledge and that will help you to tweak your phone to your choosing..Hope this helps
Not really bcause i agree with you. I am just saying dont flame a person for asking a question. Because in your opinion the awnser can be clear, but for the person reading it it probaply isn't hence the question.

Hey guys! I've lurked around here for a while. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II for ATT a few months ago after being a longtime iPhone user. Therefore, I'm fairly new to the whole Android tweaking process. I want to install an ICS ROM onto my phone, particularly CM9. I've read the stickies, and am really trying to understand, but at the same time, do not wish to brick my phone. So could someone tell me if this is correct? Or where I'm wrong? Based on what I've read here, to install ICS, I need to...
1. Root my phone as outlined in the thread for that. (The one about not activating the yellow triangle. Since I'm on 2.3.6, I'll need to use "Odin3 One-Click Downloader".)
2. Backup my apps and texts and crap using Titanium Backup to my SD card.
3. Install the proper kernel (where do I find this?) using Mobile Odin.
4. Make sure CWM is active, backup NAND (I assume this is an option?) and flash CM9.
5. Flash Google Apps.
6. Restore my Ti backup.
Thanks guys for the help! And sorry if I'm being stupid/completely misunderstanding.
Read, useless thread is useless

Read, read and read some more. Do a search for Hellraiser as there are no true ICS ROMs for this phone yet, only i900 ports.
If you need to ask questions like this, you are not ready for ICS and ICS is not ready for you.
Since I9100 kernel source code has only been out for a week and we had a bunch of I777-specific **** to fix - while lots of progress has been made things are not quite working yet.
man some people are rude in here....
And others are lazy. Welcome to XDA.
There are a lot of different roms. Usually they rewrite the kernel within the install of the rom. But basically you have the right idea...

Facts are facts, loser. There is not yet a fully-functioning official ICS ROM released for the i777, so any talk of one is premature. The guy admits in the title of this thread that he is a noob and doesn't quite understand. These are exactly the people who should not be flashing ANYTHING, let alone a ROM that is not ready for primetime. But keep on encouraging him and others so that the forum gets filled with people needing help to fix what they messed up. I'm sure you'll be rewarded with tons of adulation for your efforts. Troll indeed.
I've noticed my note being a little laggy on the current rom that I am on and was wanting to flash the dagkernal to overclock a little bit and try to reduce the lag. Unfortunately the rom I am currently using is ics based and from my understanding incompatible with dagkernal. I came across the kingkang rom and would really like to flash but don't want to end up in the same situation I am in now. Does anyone know if it is compatible with dagkernal? Thank you much in advanced.
P.s. sorryz for noobzz questionz.
You answered your own question
And if you can't figure it out you shouldn't be flashing anything.
No offense

I guess what I should have asked is if kingkang is ics based because i'm not sure. If it is obviously it won't work with the oc kernal. I'm not new to flashing by any means. I'm just new to the note. Really I as just looking for some clarity before I go try it and have to go out of my way to fix something that I ****ed up.

Stop being lazy and do some reading!!!!
Stop cluttering the threads with questions that all it takes is reading in an OP of a rom
Matter of fact go flash it
Flash King Kang than flash the kernel
I take no responsibility but if you wanna find out the hard way with out reading go and flash them both
Noobs....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Again...not a noob at flashing by any means. I read both threads thoroughly and at no point in the king kang rom thread does it state if it is gb or ics. I guess you are just to dense to understand the question that I was asking. By the by...i've been on this site alot longer than you I just don't post much because of idiots like you that don't want to give an anwser. You would rather parade around the question and give little to no input instead of just helping a fellow member out. Thanks for nothing. Last time I checked this was for q&a. I searched for my question before I made a thread about it and returned no results. So unless you have some useful input gtfo (which at this point my question was anwsered so it would be monotonous).
If you would a really searched like you said you did you'd know all CM9 AOKP Paranoid roms are ICS... idk what rom that is based of CM9 isn't ....so there is your answer since King Kang is a mixture of all 3
I give you s*** because you clearly didn't do your research if you say you "been flashing longer than me" but couldn't find out one of the most obvious things dealing with ICS ...

Every rom you will find on the first page of the Android Development thread are ICS roms. There were not too many custom Gingerbread roms for our device and the ones that were made are discontinued cause only a few of us with the Note are waiting til the kernel source is released to upgrad to ICS. Anyway yes its an ICS rom and all the other roms on the first and probably second page are also ICS roms.

Like the majority of us, we were excited when we got out SIII's however all the information you need is contained with the SIII walls on this particular corner of XDA. What people are suggesting is you take a look for yourself first and have a read of all things before asking such a question as the answer is but a quick look around.
So, instead of spoon feeding, go for a wander and have a look. You will be amazed at all the info there.

As Mr Tuff said......we at XDA are here to serve you and all your smartphone needs. please put your phone into download mode open Odin and click repartition and add any random .Tar file ( jellybean will be in there somewhere, have faith ) then click start.
now once you do this you will need to send your phone off to a repair shop where they will activate your newely installed JB build on your phone.
then just wait.........

Ya, I agree with this.
Op, just enjoy your phone for now the way it is, the JB leaks are not for people with little experience in these matters.
Hang around xda for a while and learn how things work here, learn why making these threads is frowned upon, read through the JB threads, learn from them.
Then, when you feel comfortable enough to flash it on your own, you are ready to give it a go.

How about using your brain? If Kies doesn't provide you an update, and OTA isn't too, what remains? You're not the first who asks this smart question about updating, so it's quite clear you didn't take some effort to do some research. You think you did? No, you haven't done enough.

I did answer you. If you don't want to follow the advice, that's up to you. If this is your way of replying here on xda, you're going to have a hard time.
Happy bricking:thumbup:
And then...he read.

Dude I've owned a vibrant for 3 years. I know what the hell I'm doing. I just wanted to know if ota was possible.
Ohh and by the way I did follow your little instructions. Too bad it seems like when you upgrade with Odin it takes away the lock screen.
This is why I ask people what to do, people who are willing to help with experience. I've researched and I didn't find anything that answered my questions. I'm not gonna waste my time when there is a forum on here just for those questions. Do how about you just shut the hell up man? You see I get pissed at the "Just search it up" people like you on forums. Data gets outdated when it comes to technology. New methods are always created for problems. This makes older threads irrelevant and makes your statement irrelevant. Do how about you quit being rude to new comers and just answer the damn question like others without the "why won't you just put the effort to search it up" crap. The effort has already been put with no avail.

Maybe you should not take it too personally. People who don't use Kies or have rooted their device use Odin. If you fail at using it (like the lockscreen issue that has nothing to do with Odin), that's not our problem.
My answer wasn't that offensive. 'Use Odin, the instructions do exist here on xda' was the advice, because spoonfeeding isn't allowed here (xda-rules).
About your last point: if there were some new 'better' methods here, why couldn't you find them? Because the old ones are still relevant, that's why. You just didn't want to use them. That's up to you. If you're still mad when someone's telling you that, please stay away from here.
Another great thread. Such happy helpful people we are on xda.
