[MIUI 3.11.22] Virus Scanner force close - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
When the virus scanner is called (for an apk installation for example), it's force closed immediatly and it's really annoying.
I can't do anything on the application, if I want to scan my device, it stops working; if I want to change the database, it stops working.
I can't even uninstall it with a root browser (Can't find the .apk)
What can I do?

Contact the apps developer .
Use another scanner .

a question for you...you seem to be exprienced enough you may have an answer for me
i have used various antivirus programs which really just slowed down my phone. i have never found any malicious software on my device....are these programs effective?
according to this article http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/12/17/android_anti_malware/
many antivirus programs are incapable of removing any malicious software.

Question is are you likely to install software from dodgy sites hacked apps and the like or residing in China .
If not you are hardly likely to get problems .
Avast i use mainly for its firewall and blocking apps .

Do We Need Security Application?

Hi all,
I just happen to find out that avast releases a mobile security for android and I have been a big fan of avast antivirus until today,....it crosses my mind to ask all of you on your opinion about this one too...
Do We Need Any Kind of Mobile Security for an Android?
and if you think we should have it,
What Are You Using and Why Do You Think You Need It?
Thanks In Advance.....
Personally I have never used an Antivirus on any of my Android phones.
If you install apps from the Market or from any other source you feel is trustworthy, you shouldn't need an app monitoring everything on the phone. This is not Windows, so an antivirus would decrease the phone's performance, while the chances of actually needing it to take action are slim.

I always kept Lookout on my previous phone, but because of available memory on X10's, I no longer do. I do have the apk on my sdcard and I've loaded Lookout and scanned and unloaded it a few times just to satisfy myself that it really isn't needed. And the more memory available, the better.

That is also one of the reason, why I never have any kind installed myself, unless if ever own a phone that comes with 2gb of ram,i'll be rest assured that my phone won't have serious memory shortage...for now I think, I'll pass.
Recovered my mobile data with the help of mobile security app
I use mobisecurity.net which i found to be best anti-theft application till now . It compatible for Android, Symbian and Blackberry.
Recently i lost my Symbian device but with the help of mobisecurity i could track the location and wipe all my personal data before anyone can misuse it. But later i easily recovered and restored it from my account. :good:
No, just use antithief if you like...
I used nod, Norton, avast ....
None of them detected only 1 virus but I keep tons of apps in my sdcard & all of them are cracked (can't buy apps in here, market unavailable )
Wasting CPU performance & ram

I think the best antivirus is your brain. If you install apps from playstore than youre good. However some apps that has very low rating, downloads, or the description is very creepy could been harmfull.
I prefer idea that if you use apps like facebook, instagram etc. from playstore so you dont have to scan it with antivirus because they are from trusted developers and they have milions of download. So if they were defected or malware, they could be already reported.
If you install apps from untrusted sources they could contain mallicious code.
Conclusion: For daily user which daily use phone for calling, sms, facebook, gtalk and install "famous" or good known apps from playstore is antivirus useless because it is fast impossible to have malware on his phone. Using apps from other sites is good too but only if you can trust that site .
this is only my opinion. you will never have 100% security but it is fast imposible to catch malware on your phone.

[Q] Why do these apps contain viruses?

I have downloaded WifiKill and Network Spoofer from here and I ran the apps on VirusTotal just for concerns, I have found viruses on them and Network Spoofer got my mac infected with a virus. My question is why do they contain viruses? I have a hypothesis why the apps contain viruses, well since they do gather information of other people in the same wifi network, maybe the only way is by having the virus within the app to do the work? But if that is true, doesn't the other devices get infected as it has to hack into the person's system to get their information? I also found an app on google play store which is: Intercepter-NG (ROOT), I ran that app on virus total and found a virus as well.
So my question is, why do they contain viruses and does it infect your device and other devices? I ran AVG, Lookout, AVAST and TrustGo antivirus on my android while those three apps were installed but none of the apps detected the viruses except virustotal which is found when you search it on google.
Thing is, they dont contain any virus. Its just some of code in the app probably behave similar to virus signature thus triggering a false positive aka false alarm. I know many more similar app for windows which also trigger antivirus each and every time.

Well like you said "probably" I'll take in consideration of what you said though anytime I find viruses on other apps they are usually ads that are constantly being popped out and find it as a high risk. Thank you though!

it's a reason why not to use an antivirus for android, as long as you know what you install there won't be any virusses. there aren't any viruses for android anyway (as far as i know). an antivirus app only takes up resources

Antivirus scanning apps that weren't updated

I am having a strange issue on my Galaxy S10e (stock Android 10, AT&T) that I have never seen before. I have found that the antivirus app on my phone will, usually in the morning, perform a real-time scan on a few random Google Play apps on my phone that were not updated. I do not have an SD card , so nothing is remounting. I have auto update in the Play Store turned off. If I check these apps in the Play Store I find that they were not updated, also. Which antivirus I am using does not seem to matter, the same thing happens with both Sophos Intercept X and Avira. I currently have both of them on my phone and they will both report scanning the same apps. The same thing happened when I only had one of them installed. Why is this happening? Has anyone else ever seen this?
@rsngfrce
A side remark:
Avira Antivirus etc.pp. can't do a full "system scan" due to the limitations of the Android OS, only apps get ( on-access ) scanned. If you install apps off Google Play Store then you can be sure they aren't injected with malware. Google has its own vetting process, called the Build Test Suite ( BTS - launched 2018 ), that checks software housed on their market place for potentially harmful apps.
IMHO you need a tool that scans phone's firmware for issues, because bad manufacturers already may have injected malware into. Every Android device ships with 100 to 400 preinstalled apps. Many of those apps originate not from the company that’s making the physical device, but from third parties that provide the code for various under-the-hood tasks, or from carriers who have a vested interest in everything from messaging to payments.
My POV: AV-progs are basically useless, because a certain amount of time always passes until a malware/virus is detected by Android users, until Avira and competitors get informed, until these companies update their database, until they install an update of their software on the phone. AV-progs only unnecessarily drain the battery because these apps insist on running constantly, and doing various things on its own.
Quite interesting post. And what other applications instead Avira can you share for this purpose? I recently read about top antiviruses for Windows 10 in 2020 from https://bestantiviruspro.org/best-antivirus-for-windows-10/ and several apps look good. What is your opinion?
I removed Avira from my phone because it wasn't doing anything that Sophos Intercept X wasn't doing, and was actually doing less. The main thing I find Sophos Intercept X useful for is downloading apps outside of the Play Store and it will at times notify me that they are PUPs, so I have to decide if I want to keep them or not. I usually check such apps on the VirusTotal website.
I continue to have the same issue with random apps being reported as scanned and Appmgr III will report that the same apps can be moved to SD (if they can), so there is something triggering the apps to think that these apps were installed or updated. This is despite the fact that they were not just installed/updated, nor were they moved to or from the SD card at that time. I have just started living with this.

Not to mention that those antivirus apps may also have the reversed effect on your device, because they contain ads and ad trackers most of the time. If you take time to read the privacy policy some antivirus allows third-parties to have a look to some of the data to suggest aimed ads.
The best option would be to install one when you want to check on apks you'll install, then uninstall it right away. And if you're used to install APK mods or those kind of things, I'd say the antivirus detects 70% of viruses, I've had adwares, most of the time, but it could've been worst (hopefully ransomwares weren't that popular back then).
So in short, your best AV is yourself, AV on Android are just not worth it.
Have a good day

Factory reset. Full nuke.
Hopefully you backed up your critical data.
Reset Google account password then.
Be careful what you install and download.

Malwarebytes. You can scan it with everything under sun and still not ID it.
If suspect malware and can't erraticate it in an hour or two, factory reset time before it does more damage or downloads a more dangerous payload.
You can try deleting the download folder contents or the specific infected file if you know it, including jpegs. If it hasn't breached the download folder that will stop it. Otherwise if you unintentionally installed or it otherwise got installed the outlook is much bleaker...

Hello, and welcome to XDA. I hope you'll always find the support your require. And just for your information I've moved your above post into this already existing thread by you. Please review the XDA Forum Rules with special emphasis on rule no. 5, post only once and post in an existing thread. You can also edit your thread's opening post and/or thread title if you feel the need.
Regarding your above question, first I'd like to ask you from where you downloaded the MicroG apk? I'm a user of microG for many years on all of our devices but I've never experienced and also never heard about such an issue.
And I don't intend to join a discussion if a so-called anti-virus application is required on Android devices. I agree to a firewall but in my personal opinion anti-virus applications, and it doesn't matter by whom, either don't do anything or have much more "unwanted" effects like breaches of privacy and security, spying or maybe that what you experienced.

Your English is fine, welcome to XDA.
The problem with antivirus apps especially if already infected is they may be compromised.
The other big issue is they may detect nothing when there actually is an active rootkit or virus.
I've never run always on antivirus on Androids. A scan every now and then with Malwarebytes is all I do. It picked off a trojan preloader that I missed in the download folder before it did any damage.
Nuking the whole download folder probably wasn't necessary but if there was any tainted files they needed to be deleted. If that fixed the issue it was probably a scripted jpeg. Had one on my Note 10+/Pie about 2 years ago. It damaged files in the Download folder as soon as I tried to view it. It didn't damage files in folders in the Download folder though. Because I saw those changes start as soon as I opened that file, I was able to find it easily. I deleted the jpeg and either repaired or deleted the damaged files.
That was a rather benign piece of malware but if it got into your database it be a terror. This is one reason to use a Download folder. Vet all files before you move them into your database or other folder on the device.
More malicious malware though will trick you into installing it or even self load. These are much more serious and may not be easy or possible to erratic without a factory reset. If unsure go full nuke and factory reset. As long as your using Android 9 or higher a factory reset will purge all known rootkits and viruses... just don't reload the malware again!
If the device is now running normally you're probably good to go. Keep an eye on it.
Androids rarely crash or get serious malware infections but it can happen. Be prepared to do a factory reset at any time. Go through the steps needed to do one and backup all the data needed to do so. Have a plan... this will take some careful thinking on your part. A factory reset doesn't need to be a disaster if you're prepared.

Ideally you find the file that's causing it, but a cure is cure. Overkill is better than no kill
I really hate the scripted jpegs. Had one on my PC 15 years and that Android one. Both did little or no damage... but I spotted both of them quickly by chance. The PC did make it into the Document folder, the trigger was deleting the email it was in in Outlook. Boom, then all hell broke loss. It created it's on folder with that jpeg image on it which was how I spotted it. Other than that it change folder settings globally. More of a "see what I can do" trick than an a data sucking monster. WTF?
The Android one was more destructive though as it trashed files in the folder it was in. Sometimes it just change the file association in the file's name which could be repaired. Others it did more damage and it was easier to delete those.
The trigger was opening/viewing the jpeg.
Good evening everyone, sorry for the question, but do you need an antivirus on your Android smartphone today? Can you use antivirus on your smartphone?

Question Disable "dangerous app, uninstall ?"

So I have APKure on my phone.
I regularly swiped the play Protect message wanting it to uninstall APKure.
I got annoyed so I disabled Play Protect.
I still got that annoying pop-up saying "hey I'm here, uninstall that app"
This drives me nuts !
How can I get rid of play Protect or create some exceptions to get rid of these popups?
Thx a lot
In your settings you can turn off play protect
Like this ?
Still getting that message ...
In this case, just delete google play store from your phone if you are deciding to stick with apkpure
Try clearing app and system cache.
Package Disable Playstore or firewall block it.
Playstore is a parasite, I rarely use it...

None of these two. I mean delete delete it, not disabling it, since if you are gonna use apkpure instead of google play store then there is no need for it to interrupt your installations and etc.
Delete it using ADB Appcontrol. Package name: com.android.vending (google play store)

Not necessary to uninstall it. Occasionally you may want to use Playwhore.
Side loading is the best way to get malware or worse. Scan all side loads with online Virustotal before installing and reject any download if there's the slightest question of its integrity. Do not allow apps to update unless completely vetted and trusted like Malwarebytes. Most apps don't need to update. Firewall block all apps that don't need internet access to perform their core function. Most apps don't need internet access.

I use Package Disabler and Karma Firewall so it's easier to just pull the plugs on Playstore.
I use ApkExport to save my apps so Playstore isn't needed on a reload.
Any app install carries risks unless fully vetted. Playstore has been breached multiple times in different ways, other sites carry similar risks. Best to avoid new downloads whenever possible.
This one of the reasons the current load on this N10+ will be 3 yo in June. Still fast and very stable. No firmware upgrades or updates in over 3 years.
That app is a cancer. Use APK Mirror or use official sources. If you need an XAPK installer, there are plenty on the Play Store that are much more trustworthy. There was even a malware distributed with the official APKPure app before.
APKPure is not safe, distributes Trojans
The APKPure app store for Android has been infected by a malicious module that downloads Trojans to users’ devices.
