[Q] Need help with picking out a rom - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hi,
I have always used CleanRoms on my S4 up until they stopped making them. I've been using the last version they released (1.6.5) with no issues.
I prefer a stock debloated rom that just works. I don't care much about fancy options. My current baseline version is I545VRUEMJ7. I did upgrade my modem a few weeks ago. I'm also using TWRP for recovery.
I'm looking for a rom that is like clean. Basically a debloated stock rom that just works. Something like what CleanRom was. I see all these roms have do's and dont's and I don't want to do one of the dont's.
My only needs are:
Debloated, with root so I can use it as a hotspot.
What do you suggest?
Thanks for any input.
Thanks

so you were MDK and loki'd then?
as for ROMS, goes back to preferences of what you want. Mnay good ones out their that I have read about. Me, as I have a ME7 phone, been limited to TW stock based Roms I load thru safestrap. I have tried all that were available to me and have settled on Hyperdrive. Currently running 10.2 with hopes of moving to HD11 once safestrap is fully developed for that move.

I had tried 10.2 but had problems with the rom.
I believe I am MDK and loki'd.

[Q] Confused, ME7 Safestrap?

Hi all,
So my question is a pretty basic one, but obvious answer doesn't seem to be logical.
I just rooted my Verizon GS4 ME7, and installed SafeStrap 3.6x build, successfully, root achieved.
Now, my question is, I've tried installing the ROMs from other devs that state that they are TWRP compatible (because SS is TWRP based), yet none of them have booted successfully. So, if the problem exists because of a lack of compatibility (for a reason I'm not fully understanding), what is the point of having SS without any ROMs being compatible?
I'm willing to help a dev with coding or something to fix the problem, but idk what to look for or why this is happening?.
HELP!
Thanks!

Just because its twrp compatible doesnt mean its SS compatible. Any rom that doesnt use the TW kernel wont work, so aosp roms are out of the question. What roms are you trying to install and stupid question, did you follow the install procedure outlined in the SS thread.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

So I guess that makes sense. I did follow the procedure outlined in the thread; to the T. I just tried the PACman ROM, SlimBut what are some roms that DO use the TW kernel? Because as far as I can tell, the only ROM that successfully flashes thus far is the HYPERDRIVE ROM, which is stock minus the bloatware and adding a few tweaks.

What ROM you running?

Unfortunately it seems like UPDATED ROM selection (atleast TouchWiz anyways) is a little slim now a days with this phone being all locked down and such. I have been running Hyperdrive forever, but was thinking about trying something else. I like something that has everything working and similar to stock (TWRP or AOSP)...just seeing what you guys recommend

Ive tried every rom in here and honestly the latest update mj7 rooted is the smoothest I've used. (No theme hub but I prefer reliability and speed, your not gonna get that unless you have the latest samsung kernel)
I am still on Hyperdrive 10.2, which is 4.2.2 I think. Hopefully sbreen comes out with a 4.3 or a 4.4 ROM soon that we can play with.

Stock touchwiz and all, didn't flash any roms but I am rooted with unlocked bootloader. Any mod I've ever wanted, I was able to do through xposed or just flash some small file. My questions is, are there any benefits to changing roms? If so, what TW rom would you guys suggest?
ThaCh0de's CockNRom v9.2.3.1 with XBrickMyPhoneX kernel seems to do the trick for me

Woohoo! Don't loose that MDK bootloader! You're one of the lucky/smart ones that didn't take an OTA update.

Install or update TWRP with Goomanager if you're on an old recovery. Just click install openrecoveryscript, that easy.
Stock TW KitKat: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2721118
There are lots of improvements in JB and KK, as well as a couple fixable "issues" (e.g. sd card).
You can sell it to me and then I will give you my phone, that would be the best thing for the world.
Definitely gonna keep my MDK bootloader. The funny thing that's making me want to change is the App to SD card feature in the updates.
I'll make the switch from CWM to TWRP and give stock TW KK a shot. Are there any GS5 ROMs for us? I feel so out of it lol.
I've been flashing since the OG Droid and had close to 10 rooted phones but after getting my GS4 and having everything working perfect(including the mods, I.e. WiFi Ap), I just left it

I'd use Flashify from the Play Store to update to a new recovery. Using Goo or ROM Manager can lead to possibly having to Odin back to stock and start fresh... Couldn't tell you exactly why but it's happened to a few of us including me.
Also... Go for a ROM like C ROM, Mahdi, or Liquid Smooth... Ditch TW

I too have MDK so.... :highfive:! I am running Hyperdrive RLS 15 and it runs flawless. Loads of extra features if you like that sort of stuff. I used the Ktoonz Kernel with it so it comes with the KTweaker App for complete control over the kernel. Loads of battery life. Its 4.3 but if you want 4.4 then wait about a week or so and Sbreen94 will have it released (atleast that is his current time frame).

[Q] i545 nc5 cwm or twrp recovery

I am a little confused as I read thru forums stating instructions for installing cwm/twrp. As I have pretty much gone thru every thread and basically realize i am pretty much stuck with safestrap twiz roms. Not a happy camper. Is there a work around or a thread I have missed?
I have had this schi545 for a week now. Is there light at the end of this tunnel? as I am not a big touchwiz fan due to themeing limitations..
anyone above the first firmware MDK, can only use safestrap and roms running on the TW kernel. I recommend you look into eclipse if you dont like TW. Its aosp themed and feels like it, but runs off the TW kernel.

That is correct. The original MDK bootloader is the only one that could be exploited (through a process called loki) which allowed flashing a custom recovery. VZW locked things down after that and there is no exploit available.

rom for sprint note 3

hi, i am new to this forum and also to the rooting process..i have rooted my note 3 and with some help from here also got me a custom recovery installed.. now i would like to get a custom rom and was wondering which would be the best one to have and also if i could be pointed in the right direction on how to go about doing it..i really appreciate the help..thx!
Read the sticky threads. There is no such thing as the best ROM. You should read about the process and read some more if you don't know how to flash a ROM.
You could brick your device easy enough so take your time and research thru the note 3 forums.
Good luck

First, head over to my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/samsung-note-3-rom-flashin-basics-t2896440 and get the info to flash a ROM. The very first thing you should do is debloat your stock rom here is my thread for that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770729 . Take your stock rooted, and debloated ROM and make a backup of it so you always have a base to restore from if something goes wrong. Also make a copy of your efs file its on the root of your system you can find this with a file manager like Root Explorer. Put the copy of efs file in a safe place, if the one in your device gets corrupted you will need it. A few simple things up front will make flashing fun.
As far as which is best is up to you, remember anything ported from another type of phone will always have things that don't work. With AOSP roms like CM 12 you lose features on your note 3, but you gain speed and simplicity. ALWAYS remember what version of KITKAT your on like NC4 4.4.4 and choose a new ROM that is based on the same version KITKAT you have on your device. Enjoy!!!!

Decisions decisions....
I'm in the same boat. I've just read through the different ROM's available for NH7.
Could someone point me to which ROM is the:
Cleanest
Closest to STOCK
Fully functional
Lightest (without all the crazy extras that are almost never used)
Most stable. No beta's, if's, maybe's, might work ROM's (certain functions, apps, features etc...)....
I'm setting up a sprint phone for my sister....so nothing fancy. Turn on. Turn off. No bugs. Stable. Something that just works without all the bloatware.
Thanks guys.

Well I'm going to assume her device is on NH7. There are two rom out there freeza's NH7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2472664 ( go for the odex version ) or the Classic Rom NH7 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/development/classic-rom-4-4-4-nh7-t3012725
Neither of these roms is debloated, but with a little work could be daily drivers. OR if you want something stripped down and stable you could with AOSP (KK) C-ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2739968 run it with a LeanKernel here is the link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488233 and that's about as minimalistic as you can get.
Last option what I did for my daughter. Downgraded the device to NC5 the most stable version of KitKat removed KNOX, and debloated it myself there is my thread for that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2770729 .

Excellent. Thanks for talking the time to guide me in the right direction.
Yes, the phone is currently on NH7 at the moment. You had mentioned that neither of freeza's or the classic rom is debloated? I take it that I'd be able to uninstall and just delete the apps that I don't need yes?
Going the ASOP KK C-ROM sounds enticing coupled with using the LeanKernel....hhmmm...... Will the Note 3 lose any of its Note functionality by going with the ASOP ROM? Any known issues?
When you downgraded to NC5, did you just leave it stock and manually de-bloat it? If doing this is the most stable for KK, I may just go this route. I did read the thread about debloating...great stuff....this seems to be the cleanest while on the stock ROM....
Thanks again!

Yes you can delete/uninstall/freeze app you are not using. Anything not running gives you greater battery life and a faster device. Please remember to make a backup of your stock your rooted NH7 FIRST !!! That way if you delete an app and something goes wrong you can can restore the backup and start again.
AOSP has come a long way, most of the note 3 features work, a few small features don't. But as with all AOSP roms they designed to be streamlined and fast so you do give up some features for that. I debloated NC5, there is stuff on these KitKat roms you will never use, stuff for other countries.
