[Q] About installation guide of Viper X+ 2.x - HTC One X+

How everybody,
I'm a newbie here and I have some question about the installation guide.
I'm really appreciate for your response.
This is the guide I found on the ROM release:
1. Unlock your bootloader via HTCDev.
2. Download Venom mod of TWRP Recovery and flash it using Venom Flasher.
3. Download the ROM and place it on your virtual SD card.
4. Download boot.img and flash it using Venom Flasher.
5. Go into recovery and install the ROM.
6. Reboot the device and enjoy!
Step 1 I can understand.
Step 2 I can't understand. I know what is TWRP Recovery, so this step means I have to donwload TWRP Recovery file and then use Venom Flasher to flash it?
Step 3 to 6 I can understand.
There's something I'm so confused. When I download from the link posted by the Venom. The file I downloaded is Kernel_N_Recovery_2.0.0 includes the modules folder, boot.img, recovery.img and VenomKernelFlasher.exe.
So what is the recovery.img file, is this the same with TWRP Recovery?
Is VonomKernelFlasher.exe is the Venom Flasher mentioned on Step 2?
Thank you so much!!!!

[Q] How to Flash with FLASH GUI?

Hello, i am a newbie and i want to flash a ROM for my EVO 3D, i have hboot 1.50 with S-ON unlocked Bootloaders and Rooted. So, i will flash a ROM for my firmware and confirmed it works and no need to flash Kernel, but when i go to FLASH GUI app it only shows Kernel Image and Recovery Image... I want to flash a Full ROM, which of the options do i need to choose? Thanks.
You cannot flash roms through that. You need a recovery such as twrp

Taken from the guide I posted in my OP of the Flash Image GUI EVO 3D thread:
HTC Unlock - Hboot 1.5 Users Guide for ROMs with a Kernel (boot.img file):
1) Unlock using HTC method for Hboot 1.5 users
2) Load this application, Flash Image GUI, onto the device, either through the Market or the link provided in this OP.
3) Download ROM .zip file to the sdcard on the device.
4) Open up Flash Image GUI, select Browse and select the ROM .zip file, downloaded to /sdcard in the previous step.
5) Flash Image GUI will provide a warning, reminding that the ROM .zip file will *need* to be flashed in the custom recovery afterward.
6) Flash Image GUI will index the full ROM .zip file searching for the kernel and kernel modules. Once located, the Flash Image button should be enabled.
7) Select the Flash Image button and Flash Image GUI will load the kernel modules and kernel from inside the ROM zip file.
8) Select reboot recovery.
9) Inside the custom recovery, load/flash the ROM zip file.
10) Reboot to normal Android mode and all should work including Wifi!

If you boot into the recovery, use the same method as used for the su-2.3.6.3.zip for the ROM .zip file and it will load.
The confusion occurs if the ROM contains a kernel. If so, Flash Image GUI can be used with the guide I posted above.
Alternative methods involve using fastboot to load the recovery, such as: fastboot boot c:\recovery.img
If that doesn't answer your question, feel free to post back! Thanks for the support!
This is what happens:
1.- Go to open flash GUI and starts.
2.- now kernel is preselected and chache and dalvik too.
3.- i press browse button select meanromv2.17.651.5.zip
4.- it says is a too large file for recovery or kernel image.
5.- it asks if it is a valid ROM zip file and it can locate kernel modules etc.
6.- i press yes and it says extracting zip file: meanrom.zip locating for kernel modules, peleas be patient, etc.
7.- extracted zip file in Application data.
8.- kernel continues preselected and cache too.
9.- what is the next? Press flash? And then? Reboot lnto recovery and navigate to zip file and press power button to install? Wipe data?
PD: As far as i know the kernel from the Stock and this ROM is the same. Thanks.

Steps 7 and 8 are where more detail is needed.
Although, all this confusion might be avoided by answering one question: Does this ROM contain a kernel? If not, you can skip using Flash Image GUI and directly load the ROM from the custom recovery, since you mentioned it is compatible with stock kernel you're currently using.
If this ROM does contain a kernel then answer to all questions in number 9 should be Yes. You'll know more about the kernel included in the ROM as Flash Image GUI adds three lines of text above the Flash button detailing where the kernel was located inside the ROM .zip file and what type of kernel setup the ROM is using.
Hope that helps!

WTF dude? R u serious? Hope not. Joeykrim knows what he's talking about. Period.
Now, for the OP, I have a guide/flashing notes in my signature that should help clear up your Hboot 1.50 flashing issues. Also have detailed flashing "scenarios" that include using Jk's FlashImage app.

[Q] Kernel Update Possible Questions

I been searching around all over the place and I am just hitting my head against the wall. Any help would be appreciated.
This is my setup: hboot 1.5 S-ON, I have unlocked using the HTC method. I have Revolutionary CWM recovery installed.
I am looking to update the Kernel and Radio/PRI of the phone to the latest versions. (I haven't done it in a very long time.)
By what I read, since I have hboot 1.5 updating the kernel seems close to impossible. I did read that I may have to go to a Stock Rom and update via sprint OTA to get the latest updates then unlock again? That doesnt sound right to me.
I am all types of confused. Part of this was started because I wanted to try the MeanROM (link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466362) and also update my phone. Everything I try to do fails or I cant do because of the 1.5 or the S-ON.
Hopefully i am making some sense. I dont know what I have to do to get the latest kernel or if it even is possible.
If you are rooted already the only thing you need to do is install flash GUI app (you can get it in the market) and flash the kernel (boot.img) file before you flash the ROM and you should be OK
There is a myth that if your on 1.5 s-on your doomed, that's not true. It does mean that you'll need an extra step to do things but you'll be able to get things done without issues.

Thank you for the reply, so I understand I can load that application, unzip the rom I want which will have the boot.img. Then flash that boot.img and then install that rom, is that correct? Lastly, does this also update the radio and pri?

If your firmware is compatible with the Rom and kernel yes. If not, you will brick your phone or features will not work as they have to do. After you install flash GUI go to browse button and you will be advertised that file is too large for a kernel or recovery image, then asks if it is a valid Rom zip file. Tap yes and it will search the kernel inside the Rom. After it finishes tap flash and after reboot in recovery(you have to have recovery.img in root of your SD card), next wipe dalvik and cache, install zip and wait until the phone finishes. It is also recommended to you to make a nandroid backup before install anything.

For the EVO 3D, much like the EVO 4G, the custom ROMs generally do not contain the radio or pri images.
There are some different reasons for this, but one of the common reasons being some users claim to experience different radio performance based on their geographic loation in relation to different versions of the radio and pri images.

The only clarification to this post would be having recovery.img in the root of your SD card is not required for rebooting into recovery mode. In order for a custom recovery to load, when rebooting into recovery mode, the recovery.img has to have been flashed previously. Flash Image GUI can also flash the recovery.img to the recovery partition so when you reboot into recovery, the proper custom recovery loads. Most users flash custom recoveries infrequently when compared to how often they flash ROMs so the process for flashing the recovery process isn't covered as often.
In general, regarding the OP's original question of flashing the "MeanROM", the Flash Image GUI thread provides a great beginner step by step guide I wrote to help walk thru the general overview and process. I've quoted it below for easy reference.
Appreciate all the support of Flash Image GUI! I'll echo the optimism for hboot 1.5 s-on unlocked users, most everything is still possible. HTC just requires an extra few steps which can be frustrating, but once they are learned, the process is fairly smooth.
Hope the clarification helps iron out any confusion on the details!

[Q] tf201 noob - tutorial

hello i'd like to update my tf201 to newest rom (4.3.1)
i know that official way is impossible
could someone make for me a step by step - how to install rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2501812
since now i've passed a tutorial :http://matthill.eu/android/transformer-prime-tf201-jellybean-nvflash/
what now ???
thx
Have you installed a recovery package such as TWRP? teamw.in/project/twrp2/93 . I found I needed to be on TWRP 2.6.3.0 to get 4.3 installed.
If not you'll need to use fastboot/adb to install a recovery ROM before flashing any OS ROMs
If you have, just download the latest zip and a Google apps zip and reboot into recovery mode, wipe everything except the SD cards and flash the two zip files you downloaded. Then reboot and wait a short while for things to unpack.

Flashing TWRP help!!

I am trying to install TWRP but struggling
The phone is running ANdroid 6. I have unlocked the bootloader successfully.
I am using this link for TWRP, http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/orig-development/twrp-z5-compact-t3235161
Originally I downloaded the files from the 1st post but upon reboot it was stuck on the white curtain screen.
Upon research I found out that the above guide is for Android 5. This link is for android 6.
Now I have downloaded this new file. My question is do i just flash this new file now?
Or are there any extra steps required? Such as a new boot.img file after flashing the new recovery file?
Flash it if you want?
I've no idea what you mean with "this new file", or "extra steps" (extra compared with what?) so I can't help with that. In general, you just should follow the steps in one of the guides to install TWRP. There're plenty, and most of them have in common that they already explain how you can install them and what you need. Also in general, you don't have to add "extra steps" or leave steps out.
Ok thanks.
I have now got the latest TWRP file, https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24499762636001943
The kernel im using is Latest AndroPlus Kernel V31.
So in bootloader i have fastboot flash recovery recovery.img to install TWRP
Then flashed the latest kernel using fastboot flash boot boot.img
I have rebooted the phone but now it keep booting into recovery, not the system.
Please can someone help?

Yes and yes.
Sorry for the to late reply, if you want install stock recovery download your firmware and flash the recovery via fastboot, but if you want go back to stock flash the firmware via qfil(be careful and make a backup on your external storage if you lost the imei(efs, baseband) you can restore via your backup of TWRP).
recently bought k6 power,It came with marsmallow s150 and asked to update marshmallow s156.It was about 75mb.
After it,asked for nougat s223 which i know that has lots of bugs now.So ignored the update and simply disabled update notification
I'll stick with s156 till there is a clear cut bug free nougat version. No need to install unless i want headache
Lenovo has bad reputation for updating their devices. They ruin the next version of android.Simply disaster.
So I would all advise you to stick with s156.
Bro update to S229 .it has fixed some bugs nd ui becomes smoother then previous.
Hello
I have updated to s229 by system update, i want to go back to s156.
I m on official rom. Can you guys please help?
Can i use the full ota zip to downgrade? If no then, is there any way to get the official link to download rom, i don't trust the rom from other sources and file sharing sites.
Thanks
I never had issue on s 223 even just reset your device after upgrading android ....
