[Solved] Galaxy s2 Over heating Problem - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My galaxy s2 is overheating. I have rooted my phone and had Neat rom 5.2 installed for quite sometime when I first noticed the heating.I ignored it, but when it became a frequent thing I switched to Neatrom 5.5. This also did not solve the problem. Now I'm on wanamlite 14.6, with a few stock apps titanium backup app and whatsapp. Still the issue persists, what could be it? I tried better battery stats but did not find any app in particular which would be responsible to heat my fone. Is it the modem/kernel? I'm not to technical, I just flash becoz I like trying new roms and their cool features.
Also my battery drains really quick, at times just drops down 25-30% in 10 mins.
Should I try switching back to stock OS?

Hmm.. Did you overclock your phone or change any kernel related settings? Cpu governer? Anything?
Overclocking might be the reason of the heat and the battery drain.
Have you tried flashing the stock firmware?

I did not over clock my phone, tried under clocking it but not in this rom, I'd tried it long back, much before this heating issue.. I used a cpu governer for it. I will try flashing stock only if i'm sure it solves the issue. I like custom OS so much I don't wana go back.

Just try a stock ROM for now to check if it will fix the issue. Then you can revert back to custom roms.
Another question, what is your current cpu governor?
Sent from my One X+ using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

Right now I haven't changed my cpu governer.i mean it may be the default which comes with wanam14.6. I did not change it.

I think maybe its a battery malfunction, you ever try changing the battery?
Just try it..
I hope it works...

I have swapped my battery fr a couple of day's with my dad's s2 which was bought on the same day. That s2 has no heating issues, other than a once in a blue moon heating. Does flashing roms hamper the cellfone hardware in any way? I guess not, but i'm not able to find out what's causing it.

If you did all the recommended stuff flashing an stock rom, and other recommendations "in software", and you still have experienced the same problem with the heat issue... Them its a hardware problem you have...
Unless u can buy a system with water coolant for you Galaxy...
Or use ir for warm your winter's nights.

CPU Temp App.

Anyone know of a CPU temperature app which works? My S2 is rooted but none of the apps I have tried work.

Try using the Widget on setCPU
Don't work, unlike on my HD2 it gives a constant 36 degrees regardless. I have also installed other CPU temp widgets and they either do nothing or say there is no sensor.

have you tried going into setCPU and going to "info"?
usually it tells you more there
not sure cause i dont have my S2 yet - still on backorder till next week
i had some major heat problems with the atrix so im hoping the S2 power management is better and cooler

ps- open system tuner app and check under CPU tab in Tweaks and see if temp is being shown there
Yes, I'm not rooted. So thats why it might not work.

i9300 not at all smooth? :/

Good morning.
Ive been using my i9300 for about two months now. Im a former iPhone 4 user. I have noticed that the i9300 despite the fact that it has quad-core and 1GB RAM, is not at all smooth :/ I always get lag in the Homescreen and in the settings etc etc. I've tried like 20 ROMS or so :/ am i doing something wrong here? E.g. scrolling between homepages can get laggy! That wasnt supposed to happen right?\
Im currently at MIUI 2.9.14 ROM. Maybe im doing something wrong when i flash a new ROM?
What are the steps?
I delete the whole internalSD, i perform a data/factory reset via CWM, i delete cache and Dalvik Cache. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

The rom you are on has problem of memory leak.
Just use a samsung-based rom. Your trouble will be fixed.

Yeah try that combo. Wanam or Omega Jelly Bean XXDLI8 leaks are very smooth.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
there are plenty of custom roms out there,
most of the JB leaks are much smoother than the ICS roms i have been using.( i am sure there are ICs roms that are smooth as well , just that i have not tested before. )
currently on Omega v23 and happy with it, no lags. you may just have to spend some time experimenting which one is to your preference.
Sir, I suggest you try out Omega ROM (ICS or JB) doesn't really matter, cause Omega is really really stable. I'm not prompting whatsoever because I'm on MIUI 2.9.14 too with hardcore speed mod kernel and it is perfectly great.
One advice, try not flashing so many ROMs at one go because it might cause system error such as connectivity to wifi or packet data. Stick to one you really like.
Edit: Do a full wipe, flash back stock firmware on PC Odin and root again to remove any bad 'history' and the lag too.
Hope I did manage to help!
Great day

If you want a rapid ICS rom then use Foxhound 1.4.3, it is quite simply the best ICS rom there is, and believe me i've tried them all.
Couple it with Galaxsih kernel @normal and apex launcher not much comes close to it.
As for Jelly bean, take your pick but just know that there are no final builds as of yet and all of them are leaks, meaning that kernel support is limited.
Thanks everyone ive never flashed back to stock before i used custom rom and i think that May be it like one of you suggested. About that miui rom and hardcore speed mod. It works on any MIUI rom or only on specific ones? If it does work on every miui where can i find it? I really like miui
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
You are welcome mate hmm what do you mean?? I'm using hardcore speed mod on my MIUI rom and I don't experience any lag (Provided you use apex launcher PRO too) I even have great battery life (8 hrs of hardcore using; with wifi or packet data On). You can definitely flash speedmod on your MIUI 2.9.14 and you will know what I mean.
Omega ICS on the other hand, is really stable and having that 'stock-ish' feel. But on MIUI, you know we rule the game.
Edit: If you wanna try out Omega, do a full wipe, flash back stock firmware (It will unroot device) then root again then try out Omega. It is really your decision.
But again, you know who rule the game with MIUI. Haha.
Great day ahead.

To get rid of the memory leak, go to ES Explorer, give it root and write permissions (in its options), then go to system/bin/ and delete kiesexe. You won't be able to use Kies anymore, but it'll kill the leak because it's caused by that process.
you should use the stock TW without scrolling wallpaper mod =p
I just prefer you to flash DLI18 stock JB from sammobile, wipe everything before flash, and I would prefer you to change animation scale and duration scale from 1 to 0.5,

Just a suggestion.... If you really like MIUI, but want a smoother and more stable ROM, why don't you flash the latest CM10 build, and then install MiHome Launcher? MiHome Launcher is the default launcher used in MIUI and it comes with an optional MIUI lockscreen as well. Once both are installed, it's virtually indistinguishable from a full MIUI ROM. Plus, it'll have the speed and smoothness of Jelly Bean with the stability of CyanogenMod (or as stable as a pre-release build can be).
Anyway, it was just a thought. Good luck to ya'!

But i find it really annoying that HTC ONE X users have smoother ROMS than me Their stock is smoother than any Custom Rom ive used.. wtf exynos? Im really thinkin of selling my phone!

Laggy phone

Is it just me or shouldnt a high end 500€ phone not lag while scrolling in menus in the stock launcher and pressing settings in settings app etc. Feel lag everywhere.
I think i updated to JB ota and after that i factory reseted. May that be the reason?

Project butter is a complete failure on 4.1.1. If you now how to root you can try a custom ROM like CM10? Plenty of instructions on how to root and install these ROMs on this forum...
Yeah but how about that 4.1.2? My galaxy s2 has no lag in menus etc but my s3 lol
4.1.2 is very fluent
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If you ask me the S3 is a failure altogether, Samsung should never of released it with 1gb of RAM. It just isn't enough.
And they've subsequently admitted that by releasing the LTE version with 2gb of RAM.
My S2 is fast as hell on 4.1.1, no lag anywhere. But my S3 lags like crazy on the same android version.
Zero lag problems here on the 4.1.2 leak. Never seen the thing run faster.

Mine is also running great!
Well,here's my combo:
Flash wannam rom or foxhound + Yank.lu kernel and factory reset.
Voila.
Anyway for those that want to keep it stock,my best friend's dad has an unrooted s3 with jelly bean and it runs great...dunno why you get lags with your....
Maybe try a factory reset?
Or if that fails try sending it back to sammy?
I have the exact same problem, with the same rom as you. My phone is laggy ass hell and battery life is worse than ****...
It should be a crime to take 500 euro's for a phone like this !
I'm running stock 4.1.1 and i don't notice any lag and i always charge every night.. Never died on me

For any one who get some lag in stock ROM please disable power saving mode... maybe this help..
i never use powersaving mode..
@OP disable bloatwares and ur phone will fly , stock rom bloated as hell :silly:
or flash custom rom
flash a different firmware
ive read somewhere here in xda that ui lags is common in stock JB for s3.from what ive observed, might be due too many bloatware and the 1.4ghz clock is not enough with all those apps running in the background which every now and then spikes causing lag(not really sure if thats the reason though).i have tried running stock JB with stock kernel and 77 stock apps removed(bloatware) and i dont get any lags.also tried stock JB with custom kernel(perseus) and overclocked it to 1.6ghz without any bloatware removed and i didnt have any lags.
Ive got all stock apps and about 95 downloaded and never get lag

i meant stock stock.not custom stock. custom stock usually have tweaks and optimizations.main reason to go custom stock instead of sammy stock.am also running ARHD 16 and its smooth.

Thermal proplem....

Iam currently using custom rom.
Iam using Gorgoid-1.8...and before it (Anonorom 24..last one)
And my phone goes really hot
Without even overclocking or undervolting or anything...
Please tell me is it a kernel proplem ?(Boffela-2.9)
And what is the Differnce between
Jelly.bean and ice cream sandwich
I found 4.1.1 got no proplems
Just want to know if 4.1.1. Is better so i can change to if the thermal proplem remains...

Hello,
did you try a Fullwipe with Philz Touch Recovery? Just to make sure your device itself is not faulty, did you also experience this problem with a 100% Stock ROM ? I´ve never experienced any heat problems with Boeffla or Yank kernel ( only when using the Siyah kernel a long time ago ).
I can suggest you to try a fullwipe and install the ROM again. Just in case you have installed some malicous Apps, you can also try to track them down with BBS ?

As others already suggested, install a CPU monitoring App that will show what App uses your CPU the most. A lot of heat is always a indication that something is using a lot of your CPU Power. I had a problem like that also and I could easily fix it by looking at what uses my CPU.

[Q] i9300 CM 10.2 Googy-Max battery drain

I'm very new to the custom rom scene. I recently used the CM installer to install CM 10.2 to my i9300. I experienced terrible battery life, even worse than touchwiz 4.1.2, with CM 10.2 stock kernel. I installed the Googy-Max kernel, which greatly improved standby, but screen on is a little bit worse. My battery usage is not normal. Attached are 2 screenshots. Any ideas? (I've got the stock 2100mah battery by the way)
