I don't think the old hack even works anyone. I decompiled the moto setting provider apk and entitlement check is coded as 0 by default.

Confirmed, works beautifully on Droid Maxx...this has been mentioned several times but us still worth a mention...the phone will still act like it's checking entitlement, but it's not.

Thank you for posting this. Mobile Hotspot is now working on my Droid Maxx with 4.4!

I'm getting force closes consistently and can't get it to start. Are you sure it goes in /system/app/ or does it go in the priv-app?

Sorry, I see now in step 7 he says the private app folder but in step 5 he says the system app folder. I felt it strange to put it in s different folder. Anyway, might want to edit that to avoid confusion OP. Thanks for the great work though! I don't want to seem like an unappreciative douche lol.

Tried this on someone else's phone. Hack works and I am able to connect a device via WiFi but as soon as device connects, the LTE is instantly disconnected and continues to try and reconnect until I disconnect the client. Looks like Verizon was able to implement some network side check in band 4 areas that disconnect your phone if the network detects too many hops.

False. It's a radio issue. Usually doesn't persist through a reboot

Location triggers - Smart actions

I seem to have a problem with the Smart actions app - there's no location triggers to choose from and I don't see how you can add them manually either...
When I try to add a location trigger, I get a blank list with the text "Not any meaningful locations to display". Any thoughts on this?

Right... I dont see a green plus so there must be something wrong with my version of the app.
Do you think you could help me out and upload your .apk of Smart actions? Would be much appreciated!
After a fair bit of detective work, I found that I was actually missing the "SocialLocations.apk" app which creates location triggers... weird.
I pulled it from a /system dump on xda and problem solved!
many people have the same problem with smart actions location trigger: could you please upload the file so everybody who needs it can download? thanks

How To - Load full desktop websites permanently in Chrome for Android Mobile

Hey guys, I wrote an article over on our site that shows a quick walkthrough on how to display full desktop websites permanently on Chrome for Android Mobile so that you don't have to visit the mobile site, then hit "request desktop site" button any more. Considering Chrome is an awesome browser with full sync, and works very well on Jelly Bean, this might be of use to all of you. I know I was sick of having to constantly click the button.
Article: How To – Permanently Have Desktop Mode on Chrome Mobile for Android
Rooted device Instructions:
Copy the chrome-command-line.txt file attached to the post, then paste it into /data/local/ making sure to set the permissions to 755 and to remove the '.txt' file extension.
Flashable .zip, for the lazy:
You should know how to use this by now. Grab the attached ChromeDE.zip provided by XDA user djmcnz and flash away! (Thanks!) You can also drop him a thanks by visiting a post of his later in this thread.
ADB Instructions (for non-rooted devices):
Place the chrome-command-line.txt file in the root directory of your PC and rename it to 'chrome-command-line', then make sure your device is connected to your computer. When connected, issue this command:
Code:
adb push /chrome-command-line /data/local/chrome-command-line
You can also set the path on your computer where the file is located by replacing the first '/chrome-command-line' with the file location.
Cheers! Hopefully we'll see a better implementation of this in the upcoming 4.2 release.
Very useful. Instructions were clear and precise, Nice one!
thank you very well apreciated is there any chance you can write 1 on how to make it more stable?

I'm using solid explorer off of the market (a free file manager) which allows you to set the permissions of a file. In solid explorer, they are set by ticking the correct boxes, whereas in other applications they are typed in by number..

Good tip but it can be improved.
You don't need root to write to /data/local/ so in theory this trick will work for everyone, might pay to update the article.

No? When testing with a Nexus 7 unrooted you cannot navigate to Data/local through Solid Explorer. Naturally I thought it had to be rooted. If you have had success with a different file manager (or pushed it through ADB) then letting me know what worked would be great.

You'll be able to get to it in a terminal window or adb - not sure what's up with Solid, equally an update.zip will work without root.
/data/local/ is r/w for the local user and shell.
try - echo test > /data/local/test.txt on a non-rooted device, it'll work.
Actually, now that think about it more - Solid probably can't list the contents of / (root) so you can't navigate to sub directories. Can you type a path into Solid? That should work.

I'll definitely test that out and put a guide for newbies on there. Solid displays the root directory, but will not allow you to navigate to a folder inside of it. I was thinking about ease of access for the user, and assumed they wouldn't want to go the adb route. My bad, but thank you for the heads up.

If you want it as easy as possible you could provide an update.zip for those with a custom recovery - that's going to be the simplest way. If you want to do that and need some help let me know.

No worries, I can whip one up in a few minutes when I get home.
In the meantime you can have a look at some here: http://djmcnz.batteryboss.org/GNexus/mods/StockLauncher/v4/
If you want to have a play and look at the script. It will need to be different for you of course, least of all because we'll be mounting /data instead.
I'll send you a PM later on once I'm home (I'm in Europe/CET).

Remember to edit your build.prop ---> editing your build prop can lead to future problems.

if ur scared of adb, use es file explorer. Make the root directory writable in settings. The adb commands in the instructions are just pasting the files from the zip into the system/lib and system/app folders. Then u can use Rom Toolbox Lite to edit the build.prop
Thanks
Wow, thanks for this! I can confirm that it works with the 4.1.1 Jelly Bean leak. This was my first experience using adb too, so the instructions were nice and easy for my newbness.
Is there any way to hide the old gallery and camera?
Can this be done with the keyboard and alarm clock from the Nexus 4 too?
Google play says that my phone is a "Motorola Galaxy Nexus" now xD
would installing this via root explorer have any correlation to why my 4g hasn't worked since I installed? the camera and gallery seem to work fine, and i copied over the apk, lib files, and edited build prop all according to directions.
otherwise, 4g is out in my area.

[THEME][APK][AT&T][ODEXED]-Accuweather

1. You use this at your own risk, if you mess up your phone its your own fault, I'm not responsible for it
2. Make a backup copy of the AccuweatherPhone2013.apk some where on your phone
2. If you are not on at&t, do not try these without a custom recovery (twrp or cwm). Minor differences in these system files can easily cause a boot loop, which in the absence of a recovery can be a soft brick!
3. Copy the AccuweatherPhone2013.apk to /system/app set permissions reboot

I thought it was quiet. I used root explorer on the phone to make the changes. Here's the process I did:
1. Downloaded your file to my PC
2. Extracted the .apk
3. Removed the existing Accuweather widget from my home screen
4. Cleared Accuweather cache
5. Used Root Explorer to copy existing apk to another location (copy, not move)
6. Renamed existing apk to .bak via Root Explorer
7. Copied your apk to the "Download" folder on the phone from my PC
8. Used Root Explorer to drop your apk into the System/Apps directory
9. Rebooted
10. Added widget - worked and looks great
11. Scrolled to the next screen to the right of my home screen
12. Saw my two alarms and Google Song ID widgets missing
13. Added them back
14. Tested all widgets and all are working
So, I don't know if I did something wrong in the process, but that was the exact flow of what I did. Either way, again, thanks. I had been using the 50% Accuweather on my S2 forever. I really like that look and you delivered it on my S4. Adding back a few widgets doesn't bother me at all.
Can anyone re-up this for me?

There will have to be a workaround because AT7T doesn't believe in Net Neutrality

Though post 24 here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281818&page=3) looks semi-promising. We shall wait and see
And 25 sheds a little more light. Let me play
1.Get SQLight editor from the market
2. Get Root Explorer from the market.
3. use Root Explorer to browse to /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db and click on it
4. then click on “main”
5. Scroll down to gtalk_vc_wifi_only – highlight and hold
6. Press “Edit Record” and change the “value” to false instead of true
7. Reboot
I may be able to mod the .apk to do this, but in the meantime might be a good workaround (let us know if it works)
Yea i can't find this entry in gservices.db.. d'oh...forgot i fresh flashed yesterday and don't have hangouts installed. hang tight.. eh i still don't see gtalk_vc_wifi_only in gservices.db
Have you tried this yet?

Read through a little bit of it and found that there is a app released called "gtalkenabler" it requires root which I have not done yet since I just received my phone. I will try once I get home

Yes there's an app on the playstore that will do these commands. But it's for Google talk, not sure if it will work for hangout.

doesn't stick after reboot
I tried the manual method and it does not stick after reboot, value changes back to true.

Same here, neither the play store gtalk enabler nor the manual edit works for me.
