Is there any chance that we will have some method of working around this? Or should I sell this version and try to get one with Bootloader unlock allowed: yes?
I just upgraded to this phone yesterday and am very disappointed that Bell prevents unlock and even took out Developer Mode. Is there anyway around this?

Yep (also on Bell myself) - go to Settings -> About Phone -> And tap "Build Number" over and over. You'll see a message pop up and done.

Hello XDA Community
I have had my Sony Xperia Z ultra Since last year and i've never been able to Unlock the Bootloader...whenever i've tried it just doesn't work almost makes me not want the device as i cant stand the stock Sony Xperia UI.
First off the normal method ive tried just never works
UNLOCKING THE BOOTLOADER:
This may wipe your phone, so backup your stuff
• Go to Sony's dev site
• Request the unlock key and check your mail straight away. Email is quick these days.
• Open Flashtool on your computer (yes, the one you installed earlier)
• Click the "BLU" icon
• Follow the steps and enter your unlock key
Quick note...If i type *#*#7378423#*#* into the keypad and continue the steps i get to the Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed and its always said Bootloader not allowed...now i don't know if that means anything or with a bit of hope ill still be able to Unlock my Phone...
My phone is a contract phone with o2 here in the uk and even trying to return the phone is impossible as they tell me all the time are you asking to unlock the device for use with a different network
I've done my best to explain to them no its the bootloader and they tell me i shouldn't be messing with the device etc etc etc etc.....
anyways theres no way of convincing them and am stuck with this exact phone...i dunno what else to do if even trying to unlock bootloader will ever work for me
" If Bootloader unlock allowed and its always said Bootloader not allowed."
Thats the problem.
You could look at installing a theme or maybe monx's ROM

This means that your bootloader is unlockable from the factory. There's no work around for this.

Hi XDA
I recently acquired a Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, but it seems that the bootloader cannot be unlocked (even after grabbing the code from Sony)
it says that the command isn't allowed, then I saw a post on a forum saying that not every bootloader can be unlocked.
I was wondering, since I have a unlockable* bootloader (which I assume there are ways to unlock it, because lets face it.. is there anything out there thats "locked" and hasn't been cracked into?
Anywho.
I have been to EVERY single "Phone repair / unlock" shop in my town, and none of them know what a bootloader is. So I decided to see if anyone here has managed to unlock their locked* bootloader.
If anyone can shed any light on this, it would be great.
Thank you.

It keeps saying I need to unlock the bootloader but it says when I try
"FAILED (remote: Command not allowed)"
This is what I mean.. I can't unlock my bootloader.
Unless I'm missing something?
Anyone?
Have you tried with SONY?
Perhaps the easier solution is to start from SONY itself....

Guys.. it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: No"
Which means I can't use an official way to unlock the bootloader, what I need to know is if theres a different way I can unlock the bootloader. By flashing firmware, a different bootloader or any special utility to unlock the bootloader. Thanks
bump
Anyone able to shed light on this? I really don't wanna have to sell the phone due to the bootloader being locked..
Especially not after scoring 43,000 in Antutu
are there such thing as a custom FTF file I could flash with a locked bootloader?
I just bought my vs987 less than a week ago, and when I install my T-Mobile sim card, I'm able to place calls but I'm unable to use the cellular data. I thought these were supposed to be unlocked? My data works fine when I use the Verizon sim card.
Also, when I first started it up I noticed that my "Software status" said "modified." Does that mean that this phone was previously owned/tampered with? I updated to 7.0 Nougat via Uppercut and LGUP, and now it says "Official." So, I'm a bit alarmed by what was there previously...
Can someone address both of these concerns?
Also, in "About Phone" in the settings menu there is no "Update Center" option. I looked in this video and it appears there.

Is that normal, too?
I would appreciate the feedback because I'm a bit anxious due to the fact that Best Buy apparently charges $35 for returns or exchanges on phones. -_-
Do you know if the bootloader is unlocked? Because on some phones when the bootloader is unlocked if causes some problems especially on stock firmwares!

How can I go about verifying whether it's unlocked or not? I swear if something is wrong they better not charge me $35. I will dispute them via my CC company if they do.
Well a simple way is when it boots up it says “bootloader unlocked and visit this link” or something in that nature and a nother way of checking is going into settings - about phone - software info - click build number 8 times - back to settings - developer options... And if enable OEM Unlock is checked... Your bootloader is unlocked

I checked and there isn't an option for OEM Unlock in the dev options.
Edit: I think this is because the vs987 isn't rootable.
Hmm well I honestly don't know what could be causing this problem I would suggest finding another official KDZ (don't downgrade) from here http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G5/VS987/VS98711A and if possible factory reset before and after

Since I'm unable to create a backup of my current state I'd like to use this as a last resort. I'll wait a bit for other responses and if things don't seem good I'll give it a go. Thanks for the help so far. I appreciate it.
No Problem!
Does anyone else have any ideas? I'm running low on time with Best Buy's return policy, so I'd really appreciate it.
Good evening all.
I have an SGP771 which I have owned for over a year now. I have been reading up about rooting and flashing this device. At the moment I am in a quandary as to whether I can unlock the bootloader or not. When I enter. *#*#7378423#*#* into the dialer and look at the Configuration menu from the service menu the Rooting status reads as Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No. When I enter the Developer Options there is a toggle for OEM Unlocking - Allow the bootloader to be unlocked, which I have switched to on. Developer options are also switched on.
Can anyone tell me if there is any way to root and flash this device?
Many thanks.
Hello @weazil60
Did you make it unlocking your bootloader ? I ve got the same issue with my z4 tablet.
Maybe I am going to apply this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/z4-tablet/general/guide-safe-bootloader-unlock-restore-t3362391 to see if I can unlock my bootloader that way (they did nt say there are cases it should not work) ...
I am interested in installing LineageOS but not sure if LineageOS plays well with the physical bkb50 bluetooth keyboard ...
Good evening Pierro78.
Unfortunately I received no replies and decided just to stick with using Firefox Focus to avoid ads (this was my main issue).
If you are successful with your modification please let me know.
Best of luck - weazil60.
Okay, so I'm guessing this is a question that gets asked a lot, but honestly I couldn't really find a definite answer, so i figured I'd just ask.
I recently got an XZ1. The Model number in the service menu is G8341, if that matters. And in the configuration tab, it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: No". I'm guessing this is a block that Sony put on there for whatever reason. Is there any way at all to circumvent/fix this and unlock the bootloader anyway so I can root my device and install a different ROM? Cause if not, I'm gonna send it back.
Thanks in advance.
I think it's not worth rummaging in the phone system. The consequences can be deplorable and the benefit is small. That's why I advise you not to change anything. Not worth it.

If it says 'unlock allowed: no' its not possible to unlock the bootloader. Is it a carrier branded phone?

Bootlock allowed=No phones are contract phones from providers. They don't want the hassle of "waa, I unlocked my phone and now it's broke" so they just disable it.
There is no way round it.
