ROMs aren't going to drop within the next 5 days. But thing is solid regardless with root and sideload of apps. But hey, it's your NT.

Exactly. I was having this debate with myself as well, but honestly the thing performs very well. Better than what I've heard about the kindle fire (for video anyway). The way I see it, it has the performance of many 10" tablets for less money and a more convenient form factor. I can slip this baby into my inside jacket pocket no problem. Can't do that with a Transformer
I can't wait to see this tablet with a custom ROM, but until then it works great with Go Launcher.
I ended up returning mine because for some reason the POWER button STOPPED WORKING! Pissed me off, that and three bootloader, f that so I returned it. And had a hell of a time unrooting it. But I must admit I did love it. So no more nook tablet for me untill custom roms are possible.

IMHO, you should return it. Write a quick letter to B&N on why — the Nook Tablet needlessly has a locked bootloader.
I've said this on several threads: not buying and/or returning the Nook Tablet is the best way to let them know you're not OK with a locked bootloader.
I'm keeping mine; because I'm OK with a locked bootloader -- I'm not happy with it, but I can live with it.
It's really a matter of can you live with the device w/ the locked bootloader? I've been able to use my device as I see fit (outside of running HC/ICS yet), but for the majority of my tasks, I'm okay as is. It's a personal preference thing. Whatever makes you happy

I tested it for a long while (like an hour) against a KF, Iconia, a few other 7 inchers, a NC, a few 10 inch tablets, including a transformer (which was $250 on promotion!) and it was much nicer browsing to the same video sites than the other 7 inch ones, and the 10 inch ones were a LOT bigger than I imagined (and heavier).
The bootloader isn't needlessly locked - it's due to netflix requesting it, and they went the easiest/laziest way.

Automatic Root, Fully functional ClockWorkMod image, and plethora of other awesome stuff here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2297246
Thank you xboxexpert for all your hard work!
Step 1. Plug the device in to your computer and uninstall any drivers that may load.
Step 2. Download and update the Android SDK, including the USB Driver or try the PDANet drivers.
Step 3. Add the following line to adb_usb.ini found in your user directory in the .android folder (e.g. C:\Users\YourName\.android\):
Code:
0x109b
If the file does not exist, simply create it. This may require a reboot
Step 4. Load up ADB and check connectivity through the following command:
Code:
adb devices
Step 5. If everything reported correctly in the previous step, run Motochop.
Root directions
Thanks go out to tharien and ATGAdmin for figuring it out!

Looks like you were one of the lucky few who were able to purchase this little gem early. Congrats on that. I picked mine up today and I must say that it is probably the best $150 I've spent in a very long time. It's the happiest I've been with a gadget purchase since scoring a BNIB 32GB HP TouchPad for $99 during the firesale. With that said, I hope to see more people coming to the forum with interest in the device. We can only speculate, but I would imagine this low-price and feature rich tablet will get the attention of at least a few developers and we'll get more info then. As for what I have been able to obtain, I'm stuck at the same roadblock as you. I'm bumping this thread for further interest.
I agree. Best spent $150 in a long while. Seems just as fast as my gs4.
Only cons are the screen and bulk, but for the price its a steal!!!
Hopefully it gets support for updates from hisense or the great xda devs start playing with this beast.
Root for this is needed, stat !!!
I'm thinking to sell my Nexus 7 16gb and get this since it has the hdmi and microsd slot.
I'm sure XDA guys will make this device a beast, right?
Will be interested in seeing is some deva pick this up as my main concern would be support.

I just picked one of these up on the way to work this morning. It is sitting on my desk charging as I am trying to get some work out of the way before I turn it on. I will be replacing a Kindle with this and just from eyeballing it my Kindle Seido case may be a perfect fit. I will test it tonight. It also appears that a Kindle screen protector will work for it as well. I would guess the Nexus 7 or other 7" protectors will work also, but I can use a ruler and verify the Kindle one since I already have that device.
Have you tried using the motochopper tool from djrbliss?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2233852
I would start with trying the root exploits that work on the Nexus 7 (Similar chip set?) and Android 4.2.
I don't have this tablet, so I have not tested to see if this does in fact work.
Random question, since this is the only thread about the Sero 7 Pro I've found.
How are the speakers? I have a Kindle Fire HD and I am pondering about the switch...
Also, can this support 64GB microSDs?
Also, I've heard reports of flawed Sero Pros popping up.
Does anyone have any firsthand experiences with how this tablet's holding up?
Thanks in advance!

The speakers a actually pretty loud. I was watching movies on it last night and was satisfied with the sound.
I saw some random comments (in the comments section) on various articles about this tablet but they all seem to be written by the same person based on the writing style and content.
Mine is holding up great. No issues at all and is as enjoyable as using my galaxy s4 but with a bigger screen. I'm testing out the battery today to see how long she lasts. If she lasts me the whole day of heavy use, she's a keeper.

New owner here.
Did anyone else have to go to multiple stores only to deal with customer service that had no clue what you were looking for?
The first store I went to, they older guy was disgruntle I interrupted him, when I pressed him to do his job he couldn't spell Hisense.
Just picked up the Pro today, haven't opened it yet. As mentioned above, with the 15 days from Wally, I'll wait a bit to see if any devs pick it up. I have to say it does look like a terrific deal for the specs and if there is some XDA love for it, I'll give my GTab 2 to my wife.
I'll be searching this forum daily to see what shakes down.
@tharien,
First location I went to, walked in and went right to the display case, saw the Lite and Pro. Asked the nearest associate to open the case, checked out and left. Took less than 5 minutes.

Good to hear. I was also waiting to see if devs pick it up because I was looking for a tab for my wife and daughter. But don't want to hang them out with one that would be unsupported. Let us know how hdmi works as my wife would want that for work.

As far as I know, this is a new Tablet. 7 inch Nvidia Terga3 1.3ghz quad core with 1gig of ram/8gb ROM. NFC, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4ghz and 5ghz, front and rear facing cameras, 5 and 2 megapixels respectively, GPS amd mini HDMI. Jelly Bean 4.2. It's a decent little tablet.
The trouble is getting it rooted. Recovery mode is attainable and I've only been able to pick up the serial number via ADB when attempting to update from ADB in recovery. Any other time, I get nothing. Any advice on how to proceed? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

How were you able to get feedback in recovery mode? I can't get ADB to see the device at all. I tried using the Nexu 7 ADB drivers as well as a raw set. I can only get Windows to see it, however that's an easy thing when forcing a driver.
I also tried fastboot - Windows sees it as the Nvidia tegra 3 Fastboot connection, so I'm starting to think we need the real driver from Hisense unless we can find a generic alternative.
Device Manager shows (! - M470BSA) and again under portable devices correctly as a media device.
The Vendor ID is 109B which comes back to Gemlight Computers Ltd which mfg USB for OEMs.
edit - Hisense does not have anything for this tablet on either their international site or their US site aside from a press kit.

I believe you're right about needing the ADB drivers from Hisense, hopefully over the next few days, it will materialize on their site. I guess they felt we needed to download their presskit instead of drivers or firmware.
Anyway, maybe it's worth trying Koush's Universal ADB drivers? Possibly one in the list will work with this.

I want to build a android 4.4 kernel for my iRola DX752 7" tablet (formerly known as a Kocasco M752) using Eclipse ADT etc. but I am practically a newbee at this. I figure if I brick it I am only out $50. It currently runs Android 4.2.2 with system updates that I can't count on bringing me up to more current releases, and it runs a Rockchip RK2926 Cortex-A9 CPU with 512MB RAM, 2GB internal SD and a 16GB external SD card.
I have rooted a smart phone without bricking it, but that was with a couple three premade kernels to update with and can not find any for this make or model tablet.
Tablet
Well my friend.. I can help you with that but just a single question.. Is the tablet good? No problems at all? If is good I will buy and we can make even ROMs together...
Just tell me if the tablet is good and what problems you encountered using it.:highfive:
does this thing come unlocked? How hard is it to root and is there any roms?
irola
Let me know if you make a ROM. I want to buy this tablet but it seems like it lags and its slow on the stock 4.2.2 ROM.
Very nice tablet
I purchased two for my kids and one came in the other day. I am very surprised about how well it is made. It doesn't feel like a cheap tablet. I would also be interested in a custom rom for this as well.

I ordered one for my daughter for Christmas. It is still in it's original packaging and I was lurking here to see if anyone had ideas for rooting it. From the specs it seems to have decent hardware so I am confident that it should perform well even though we haven't tried it out yet. I gave her one of my older Viewsonic tablets that's rooted and with a custom ROM. I may buy another one of these iRola tablets if I like the core stock install and then I will join you in creating some root magic for it..

I just got one of these
I just got one of these for my daughter, but it has the Jellybean that has trouble with Wifi... it won't connect to my home Wifi router at all, and drops the connection regularly at work.
So, I want to get a different version of Android on this thing. Has anyone succeeded yet?
I doubt it's the hardware, as I have friends who had the same problem on their phones until they upgraded their version of Android.
I'm unfamiliar with development, but would also be happy to test. From what I can tell, this thing has a memory issue. We need to get something lighter on it.

Put me on the list of people curious about development for this device. Just picked one up as a gift for a my sister and agree it seems a little more sluggish than I thought it would. Also the screen resolution is kind of poor and was hoping that maybe changing the DPI could help if it were rooted.
i haven't received mine
I order mine back on Nov 22, I haven't received it. I've been itching to root this. Ugh come on N MR send me my tablet. Has anyone have problems with NMR shipping before. ????
Just got mine. It's so sluggish...
I don't understand how, even after a factory reset, this thing is ridiculously slow. I have googled and googled but I can't find any information on how to root this device or even if it's possible yet. I really wanna downgrade the software to something it's more comfortable running. Maybe 4.0.4?
If you haven't received your tablet I implor that you contact NMR ASAP. They didn't send my fiances mothers 3 irola 7" tablets ordered later Nov. until yesterday Dec. 23.
I will also be working on this tablet as I just got it as a present from her So make that 4.
I also just bought this tablet (irola dx752) running android 4.2.2. I have never had a tablet before but it does not seem slow or laggy. I am familiar with linux (someone asked that earlier in this thread) and I am interested in getting into android development. Also happy to test (not intending to brick of course).

It should work on n10 with a custom rom
I got rid of the N10. I have to admit that the Kindle beats it many ways. I like the Fire OS. Although I would like to modify it a little more. Not much info here on xda. Surprised. I guess there aren't too many people that have one. The battery life is too phenomenal to rom it. And it's fast and smooth. And i don't think I even saw a rom for it anyway. Didn't look that hard, but don't think I want one either. With the N10, I could not find anything and gave up as to OTG. Even roms. People said it was hit or miss. You were lucky to just get the right unit. I still find it tough to believe that that is case. But I'm not a dev. Seems like what's more in demand.
For what I do with phones and computers, it usually has to affect me first. Then I come up with a solution. But i'm not a coder. And don't know much about Unix/Linux.

The "problem" with the kindle hdx is that the OS is proprietary , and hacking it is illegal and devs are not even trying, only one has been able to hack it (@jcase), but he cannot release it since Dmca does not cover it,
long story short - there is not much you can do with it, unless try some HDX Nexus rom...
Yeah. But we all void are warranties. That's mostly why we're here. I have ways around that anyway. It's just that this tab seems better than others. I just want to hack it to a point where I can do all the crazy network and server and PC stuff that I do. But keep the Fire OS. Everything can be hacked. And it doesn't hurt anyone. It's mine now. Not Amazons! I know, an age old issue. But it is a good tablet and I think worth the hack. ?. I'm getting there, slow but sure. But there are just a few more things I would like to do.

Thanks. Do you think the kernel helped with that? I'm interested in "updating" the software somehow, but AndroPlus isn't supported anymore. I'm already out of practice with rooting and all that and don't want to risk ruining a device that was already pretty hard to find.

I don't think so. It'll just work. If not, the 'rooting' process is as simple as these instructions, if you want to go with LineageOS, which is basically an open source Android ROM.
I have a 256GB sdcard as well and I'm fully stock and I have no issues. I haven't maxed out the card, however so I'm assuming that it recognizing the card means it works.
I've had mine for 1.5 years now. It is definitely showing its age on the latest games or a ton of Chrome tabs but otherwise it works fine for me.
I would love to have a new Sony tablet but it's pretty clear that they exited the market. So, probably at the end of the year I'll get a Sammy S4 or S5.

I see no reason why the Controller should not support Cards up to 2TB(the theoretical max for Micro SDX) - if they will ever exist.
