[ROM]i545-VRUEMK2_Stock_Root_Deodex(12/22/13) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

THIS IS ONLY FOR USERS ON MDK BOOTLOADER WITH CUSTOM RECOVERY (cwm or twrp)
NOT COMPATIBLE WITH SAFESTRAP. - however, jrkruse has built a MK2 rom with Aroma that allows installing without kernel.
THIS WILL NOT AFFECT BOOTLOADER OR MODEM AS THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED.
GENERAL DISCLAIMER : YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT YOU DO TO YOUR PHONE!
This is a stock rom based off the MK2.tar that Surge1223 put together. Thank him every chance you get (without it this wouldn't be possible). It's rooted, deodexed and I've removed all of the Knox garbage. I've included Talexop's stock insecure kernel, Surge1223's tether mod and swgamez's reboot menu.
If you want to update to the latest modem, it can be found here - [MODEM][Zip] Modems for Loki'd & Safestrap roms
Features:
Talexop v1.3 kernel - which can be found here
Pre-Rooted
Deodexed
Zipaligned
Busybox
Surge1223's tether mod
swgamez 4-way reboot menu
To install:
Must be on SCH-i545 VZW S4
Must be on MDK bootloader and have custom recovery (cwm or twrp).
Wipe cache, dalvik cache and data. (If you choose to "dirty flash", don't bring up any problems here).
When rebooting from recovery, it will ask if you want to "Disable Recovery Flash". Always choose "NO".

Thanks:
Surge1223 - for the .tar file and tether mod
Dsixda - for the kitchen (that makes it so much easier on us noobs)
talexop - for the awsome kernel
scrosler - for his great tutorial on building a rom from a .tar
djrbliss - for the loki method
ChainFire - for SuperSU
jrkruse - for the root method

MODS:
MK2_Blue_Circle_Batt-Switch-Toggles.zip
md5: a769dfe5b505c4bff6fd19eb6203c584
AOSP_Mms_for_MK2.zip - this includes an Mms.apk that I themed but you can swap it with any AOSP Mms, just copy it to /system/app/
md5: 14a3b59eb398d79463086480bea1142a
swgamez created these mods for MJ7 but they still work on MK2
SecMmms.apk (stock messaging app), ENABLE SPLIT-VIEW MODE ON/OFF TOGGLE, DISABLE THE SMS TO MMS AUTO-CONVERSION,
SMS 1000/UNLIMITED RECIPIENT LIMIT, INCREASE MMS MAX SIZE + INCREASE MMS IMAGE SIZE and MORE.
thanks swgamez
SecMms Super Mod
4x5-Laucher3+Transparent Weather Mod - thanks swgamez
Disabling Ascending Ringtone Mod - thanks swgamez

This one too just in case

Sorry, wasn't quite finished.

Been waiting for this. Merry Christmas
Sent from my thumbs while using tapatalk 4

I've been curious about what it was like myself. Run CM daily but still always like to see what's new in the updates.

Thanks so much for putting this out. I've been waiting for an MK2 rom to fix issues with my car charger. Hopefully this does the trick!

I'm not sure this is still going to have that fix. I believe those changes were in the kernel and I'm using talexop's kernel. One of these days I'll be able to repack a stock kernel and get it to boot.

Oh no!
Whats the issue with getting the MK2 kernel to boot? Is it related to KNOX? I thought all 4.3 updates were KNOX patched, but all of that security had been cracked already as far as roms are concerned?

Nah, it's not a knox thing....it's really just a noob thing. I'm not really a kernel guy but I'm learning. After trying several different methods of repacking after editing to make it insecure I just gave up on my own kernel and borrowed talexop's.

Thanks for this man. Been waiting all day, LOL.
Do you happen to know if the rom actually has any changes from NE5? I flashed the modem earlier, and it's running great. I'll install the rom side just so I can know that I'm on the latest, just was wondering if anyone's seen a changelog.
@BeansTown106 Thanks for all your support here, it's greatly appreciated.

Yep, you caught me. Ahh, the droid x. Still got mine sitting in my nightstand, still stuck with a non-writable storage, so every boot starts up on some date that the hd died. It works for a few days, then reboots and it's back to that day in time.
I did work on sourcery rom for the gnex for a while. Been seeing if I can get into the Samsung stuff, but I've got no time. I'm just a plain ol' user right now. But my curiosity is getting the best of me. I'm starting to figure out how this odin thing works.
As for any thoughts of rom dev on this thing, I shiver every time I think of smali editing again. Is that still how these things go with no source? decompile the apk, then smali edit until things look about right?
Sweet Chicken, thanks man. Keep up the good work.

Is the firmware tar flashable with heimdall? Having a mac and using odin is a huge pain.

heh the droid x and droid 2 is what got me started with android those were good time ya i remember sourcery i tried porting that to the dx (icsourcery) but i suck at git and merging the needed device files lol.. had it booting but no video lol.. odin isnt bad pretty much like rsdlite but accepts user created tars so its more versatile. and yep without sorce its just smali editing lol.. its a pita but an interesting adventure/learning experience thats for sure.

So with NE6 mainly being a modem fix after the botched NE5 modem, will Beans not be rebasing Alliance to NE6? It's not necessary since we can flash just the NE6 firmware, right?

Hi Beans,
I'm wondering is there any way to make "Private mode" work on the DeOdex version? or do you recommend going Odex? I wanted to stay DeOdex since I already have my phone with all the apps and everything loaded, I don't want to start from scratch again and have to get everything on there if I switch to Odex.
btw, Awesome work you've done!!! I highly appreciate your stock-rooted roms. :good:

[Q] a question about surge's upgrade method

Hello guys,
Instead of flashing the near stock 4.4.2 ROM and then using Odin to flash CSc and ap, could I flash a 4.4.2 ROM like eclipse and then flash stuff in Odin?

If I'm not mistaken it has to have a compatible custom kernel first. I would be interested in knowing for sure too. I know little about MDK but would like to learn enough to 1. not brick it, 2. not lose MDK and the loki exploit. Is there a thread dealing just with MDK? What to do and not to do for a noob?

nope, I'm talking about the mk2 to nc5 method from surge. I'm wondering if I have to flash the 4.4.2 ROM within the thread, or if I could flash another 4.4.2 ROM.

Anyone running a build beyond MDK has Kernel Lock and the ROMs that users can flash are using the stock kernel... There were a few instances where the kernel was lightly modified but nothing big.... I'm not 100% about the OPs question though myself since I'm in fact on MDK...
As far as what to know for MDK... The two biggest things to remember are to NEVER take an OTA while on Stock MDK Touchwiz and to NEVER use any other Odin file other than MDK... Other than those two things anything else is pretty much fair game.
You need to just root stock MDK with Motochopper then once it's rooted freeze SDM with TiBu then I suggest using Flashify to install your recovery of choice.
Once those 3 steps are done.... Make a backup of stock MDK and your into flashing !
You won't " lose" your Loki'd MDK if you do those steps before anything else whenever coming from stock via Odin.
Other than possibly flashing a bad download ROM zip or something... The only other issue I've ever ran into was flashing a kernel that didn't have the Loki patch. That will send you to the " Unauthorized Software Detected" screen at boot. Even then no worries since you can hop back into recovery and restore or try again. For situations like that someone made up the Loki Doki zip that you can flash say after flashing the Alucard Kernel. which is meant for the i9505 S4 and that will Lokify it for you.
Good practice would to be just flash either KToonsez Kernel or Alucard Kernel ( + Loki Doki with Alucard ) if you're flashing a ROM you're not to sure about.
All AOSP roms that are for " JFLTE" can detect they our bootloader requires the Loki Patch and it will take care of that during the flash automatically.
If you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a PM or ask here... Never a problem

MisterTac, thanks for the super response. Lots of people would just say, "read up on it". I've got a couple of dumb questions. Can you flash virtually any Verizon rom? I have a hard time distinguishing between roms if it doesn't say specifically that it is for MDK. Another question is if you can't flash kernels, what exactly makes the MDK so much better than being on Safestrap (especially with all the roms Gigilie has ported)? One more thing, in your opinion what are the top five or so best roms that you can run with an MDK that you can't on Safestrap. I know you aren't really supposed to ask about best roms but I wanted to see what the difference was. Do you have to flash via odin or can you just install via recovery?

You can most of the time flash any Verizon ROM whether it's for SafeStrap or MDK. Jrkruse also has a patch so that you can flash just about any i9505 Touchwiz ROM as well. And for AOSP ROMs like Cyanogen or Slim or the 100 other ROMs based off those you're good to flash any of them since most of them are Unified JFLTE builds that are for all LTE S4's on any carrier.
MDK is " better " or more flexible in that we can flash Custom Kernels. SafeStrap you cannot as of now. That gives you way more control over your phone. SafeStrap also only has a couple AOSP ROMs that somehow are working with it.... Where again... Our MDK ones can easily flash aosp ROMs without issue.
All these ROMs are going to be flashed through your custom recovery... Twrp or CWM. And I suggest using Flashify to install your custom recovery.
My top picks for stability and features that work best for me are currently SlimSaberKat, Mahdi, Liquid Smooth, C ROM and OSE. You're right there is no Best ROM... You'll have to just try them on your own but I'll edit this post with a couple links to these ROMs for you...

Well I guess technically you could although I don't see why anyone would want to other than using it for ROM slots yes.
I haven't ran into anyone on here I don't think either with a Verizon or ATT S4 that could run a true Custom Recovery and opted for SafeStrap.
In CWM I can wipe my current ROM and restore a backup I've made in like 2 minutes tops... so the space you'd potentially lose on your internal memory having multiple ROMs loaded with SafeStrap really isn't worth it when in 2 minutes you can just wipe and restore ya know? Just my opinion

Just flash in recovery like any other zip. Here is Philz Touch CWM .
https://www.dropbox.com/s/odxykfc1dch3d7a/philz_touch_6.48.4-jflte.zip
Flash that then reboot to recovery from within your current TWRP and you'll have your CWM.
If you want just regular CWM you could use Flashify from the play store. Philz is the same thing but has few more options and in my opinion why not have more right?

[Kernel] Stock NH7

This is a recovery flashable, stock boot.img, pulled from freeza's stock rooted rom, located here. It's completely unchanged from stock, I just made it flashable. After flashing, You may, or may not have to modify your build.prop to set secure storage to "false." See freeza's thread here, for more info on this.

Numerous, for example, it will allow you to return to the stock kernel, for troubleshooting purposes, if you expect an incompatibility, or issue with a custom kernel, without having to flash an entire stock rooted rom, or downloading an entire rom, just for the boot image.
By the way I want to thank you for this its a blessing we have ppl who do this for us with that said im a noob should I flash this I have the nh7 modem I flashed the nh7 stockish rom then I restored my backup for sacs moar rom
i flashed the baseband/modem and that loaded fine. i then tried to flash the kernel and get stuck in a boot loop even after i tried the file to set to false. what can i be doing wrong?

Can you provide more info. If you were in a bootloop, how did you set the file to false? Did you flash the fix, in freeza's OP? If so, that's likely the problem. That build.prop is for a previous version.
I did flash the fix. How else can I get the new modem flashed without bootlooping? My modem/baseband is NH7. Just can get the NH7 stock kernel on without looping

I'm not sure what the issue is, I haven't run into this yet. To be absolutely clear, are you flashing the wifi/secure storage fix, from freeza's thread?
Yes as I read it would fix the boot loop. I tried without it and had no luck either.

That's the problem. That fix is fo MJ4. Also, what rom are you on? I'm not sure if the NH7 kernel, is compatible with NC5 roms. I know for a fact, NC5 kernels, are incompatible with NH7 roms (no display).
Your best bet is to Odin the NC7 tar, if you want all NC7, or Odin NC7, and restore your TWRP backup, of your previous rom. Your baseband, will be NH7, but your kernel will be whatever was included in your previous/preferred rom.
I'm on sacs rom. My baseband/modem is currently NH7 and have no problems
Im also on sacs rom and nh7 kernel want make it past samsung screen just a heads up keep a updates back up before trying this

Sacs rom is NC5 based. Use an NC5 compatible kernel.

[ROM] Stock ZV6 Base - Odex & Deodex

Whoohoo!! We beat the actual update. :good: HUGE Thanks to @autoprime for the files!!!
They seem to have fixed a lot of the bugs we had in ZV4. Actually runs really well. They've also added a couple new things. (Data optimizer, for one)
This is the Stock ZV6. Odexed and Deodexed. Anyone can use this as a base. Just give credit.
What is has:
Bone stock - installs modem, kernel and ROM
Root
Busybox
Zipaligned
Install:
In TWRP, select "Wipe" "Advanced", and select all but int and ext SD. So wipe /system, /data, /cache, and /dalvic.
Flash Rom
On setup, it happens fast. Take your time or you'll end up selecting something you don't want.
Update profile/prl
Profit!!!
Bugs:
None that I have found. You tell me?
Downloads:
Stock ZV6 Odexed
Stock ZV6 Deodexed
Modem/Radio - Flashable zips: - They are interchangeable on either KK. Update profile/prl,then Activate phone. Then go to Settings>More>Mobile Networks and change it to ANYTHING BUT GLOBAL.
ZV6
ZV4
Kernels
Bone Stock_ZV6
Initd_Stock_ZV6
Flashable_init.d_ZV6_MultiRom - This will run before or after MultiRom. So you can flash this, and when you're ready for MultiRom, just flash files #1 and #3 from that thread
Flashable APN's
Flashable_Vanir_APN - If you do a Factory or dialer reset, your phone will not provision. You will need to revert to the stock APN first.
Stock_APN
Hell yea! Thank you!
Thanks @engine95 love your work. Cant wait to try this out
If I flash this, & reinstall bump twrp can we still play around with the cm roms that are out? And thank you for this sir. Damn fast you are!

Short answer is yes. Or maybe i should say, "I think so".
I'm really not sure if reinstalling TWRP will fix that 5sec delay in startup of TWRP we get now. I'm assuming it does. But it's not necessary. It seems to be working fine.
Deodex uploading now.
I hope this update fixes the auxiliary port issue. Thanks for the upload.
Deodexed is up in OP.
BTW
The 5sec delay in TWRP, might be caused by the kernel. I don't know if autoprime "Bumped" it before uploading. And Bump is throwing errors when I try.
The kernel and ROM are working just fine. I'll upload the kernel if this is the issue.
OK so if I flash this, this should update the kernel and modem right? So I go back to my nandroid..which is sacs...will the modem and kernel still stick?... I did all this already but just curious lol

The modem will stick. The kernel won't unless you uncheck restore boot. Then it SHOULD stick. The date on the new Kernel is Nov 7.
Any idea if pulling just the modem out and flashing it alone will get the gps/compass
fixed for those of us running AOSP builds?
Can this be flashed over my current setup?

I flashed over by previous stock just fine. You should be okay going from stock < stock since its just an update, but if you get any fc errors you might want to wipe and do a clean install.
On a side note I haven't had aux issues yet so this may have fixed it.

you don't bump stock boot.imgs.. they're already signed by LG. bump is only for custom boot.img's
as for the TWRP delay.. no clue. there is no difference in how bump works with the bootloader between zv4 and zv6.
I honestly didn't question that because I didn't know if ZV6 came with a new bootloader that looked for a new sig

It might. autoprime had it here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56927992

So far as i already fugured no issue. Thanks all. And engine95 i might like to run a rom off of your zv6..autoprime again thanks. Both. To the unknown finder..thanks

Flashed over stock rooted with no problems. Running good, thanks.
Love it, thanks engine! Quick question, after a couple reboots....My phone got pushed all the sprint bloatware! How did they manage that? and is there a way to undo it?

Much of Sprint crap can be removed within 'manage apps'. The rest through a file explorer. There's a few threads here on what's safe to remove.

Very nice. Thank you. How difficult is it for me to make this into an Odin flashable TAR file? I'd love to have a stock image, prerooted that I can use to flash back when I soft brick my phone. lol
Thanks, Jkruse. It's really nice of you to come back and share things like this and the ROM patch work even though you're on an S5 yourself. Thank you!!

Well I would love to but there is this little thing called a locked bootloader that prevents that
Ive been using this for about a week due to bluetooth being flaky on CM11. Bluetooth works awesome, but my battery life has greatly suffered. I would sleep would 30% battery and wake up with battery dead. where as with CM11 I would wake up around 10-20%. any ideas?

Since your on MDK try flashing Adam v2.3 kernel or AEL v4.6. Just remember to flash Loki zip after installing kernel. I've had really good battery life with both kernels. Haven't tried this build yet but its still 4.4.2 based.

That is odd. Did you check wakelocks to see if you have a particular app or process that is eating up your battery?
Just noticed you said you've been using this a week. It's only released two days ago. Are you talking about another ROM?
Super stable, fast and perfect. Sometimes a bone stock rom with root access really is the best thing.
This is exactly what I was looking for. Where can I find the instructions on how to install it? I'm currently on I545VRUFNC5 with root and safestrap 3.72. Can I upgrade to NK1 directly without wiping my data? I upgraded from NC2 to NC5 root this way and had great experience. I hope I can do it again on upgrading to NK1. Xda-developers rocks!
Just curious - what's the benefit to using this? I mean, I am genuinely curious what the draw is. If you are lucky enough to have one of the MDK S4 phones, then why use a stock/Verizon rom?
I might flash it, just want to know what the advantages are. One person said "it's nice to get back to a Verizon ROM" but all the Verizon ROMs I've had have been awful.
Thanks for the ROM jrkruse.....
I wanted to know if there was a preferred modem to use with this ROM. I am on MDK and currently using the MJ7 modem.

I haven't flashed this, but Jkruse has never included a modem in his ROM releases before, and I would expect this one to follow that pattern, does not flash modem.
