Rumrunner should work (rumrunner.us). This thread gives a breakdown on s-off methods: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2559232
Enjoy

The link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109862 is DEAD. It needs to be removed. They say to use moonshine or rumrunners, both of which don't work either.

Rumrunner works fine on the latest OTA (3.06.605.4). There are some reports of other issues related to windows 8.1 not recognizing the dna. You also need to make sure you have the correct drivers installed, make sure you have HTC sync uninstalled, and you may have to disable anti-virus software. I'm sure there is plenty of other help on rumrunner if you search through the fora.

Also, here's a link for a great toolkit I used to make sure the right drivers were installed.

I'm having the same issue. Came over from an S3 so I'm familiar with rooting and unlocking, but I'm a bit confused at which method is the latest. I've went down a wormhole of threads that keep saying to use a different method since one is outdated. If I'm on 4.1.1 with software 2.08.605, baseband 1.01.04.xxxx, which method is used for rooting and flashing a custom recovery? Or should I take the OTA and root?

Take the OTA to bump you up to 3.06.605.4. Then you can use rumrunner to unlock the bootloader, root, and s-off. Next, you'll have to flash a custom recovery through either adb or an app (e.g., flash image GUI or Flashify). See the youtube clip below for a walk through on installing a custom recovery through adb. I would suggest using either the latest beta twrp (see link to CM11 thread below), cwm 6.0.4.5, or the new advanced cwm. These all work with 4.4 based ROMs.
Beta twrp: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47629442
Advanced cwm: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2595978
Also, make sure you have the correct drivers and antivirus disabled on your PC before starting (see my post above for more info).

Great to hear. S3 had a pretty strong dev community which was great, just wanted to move on. The CM11 builds were super fast for it, but the camera and signal was lacking (although the GS3 has a weaker radio than the DNA). I ended up sticking with the more popular stock Touchwiz roms that were slightly tweaked, so that is my mentality here unless CM11 handles data handoffs better on the DNA.

Oh my gosh, thank you!!! These "phone forums" are freaking impossible to understand. Are "phone people" not computer people? I'm starting to think that. Anyway, THANKS!

Firewater S-OFF will unlock boot loader and give S-off. Then just flash a custom recovery, then use custom recovery to install SuperSu. It's that simple.

AT&T HTC One X+ CM10 and Root

Hi,
i searched everywhere couldn't find anything about the AT&T verison of HTC One X+ and CM10
Is there a way to root the ATT version and install CM10 on it???
Read only about the international version yet. Don't want to brick my new phone.
Thanks.
Nope, there's still a bit of a wait on CM10/ASOP for AT&T/TELUS users. When a usable version is ready, it'll probably be here with [AT&T/TELUS] in the title.
damm was so hoping to change my devices from s3 to htc thanks mate.

So, the experimital CM10.1 is running on your HTC One X+. I have the same phone and I have unlocked it from HTC's web site. I'm a noob and don't know a lot about this stuff. Still learning. Should I try any mod or wait? I really want to get the AT&T crud off of my phone. Like I said, my phone is unlocked now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
There are several non experimental roms you can install already just to get rid of the at&t stuff. Also you could root it and use titanium backup or root uninstaller or something to just get rid of unneeded stuff. If it were me, I would not DARE try anything experimental with my new phone, especially something cm10 related because pretty much all the devs have said there is nothing ready yet on that avenue.

OK, I'm new here and I really thank you all for any advise. I will read on and try to find some of these existing ROM's. This is probably a REALLY big noob question. If my phone is unlocked, does that mean it is rooted?
BTW, I also thank you for the advise on not using any experimental roms. I won't touch unless I know for sure. This new phone is a gem and I don't want to screw it up.

Unlock is unlock and root is root
Indeed. You have unlocked the bootloader which is step 1. Now you need to root which is step 2. There is an all in one tool in the android development forum you can use to root. That might be the easiest way to go. Once you are rooted you can get root uninstaller for free from the play store or titanium backup. Titanium is probably better choice there. You could also flash a rom through recovery that is already rooted but most of those require you flash the kernel seperatly so if you are.very new i probably wouldnt do that just yet. Read up on the process first. Hope that helps.

Thanks! My problem is this..... I used the HTC step by step from http://onexroot.com/one-x-root/how-to-root-one-x/
I got through the step where the instructions say to Mark - Right Click Copy - Paste into the HTCDev.com website
I then followed the instructions on through until the phone was unlocked.
At step 39 the instructions say to -
Reboot your phone into Fastboot mode and type the following in command prompt:and
type and execute at the cmd prompt -
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.2.7-endeavoru.img
OK, I finished these steps and am now stuck at step 40.
I then copied the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file to the root of my phone storage
The phone won't boot in to recovery at all
What is the CWN-SuperSU-v.0.87.zip file for and do I need to complete the step by rebooting using it in recovery mode? It will not boot in to recovery anyway.
So my phone was wiped and unlocked but back to the original AT&T build and I don't understand where I pick up in the process.
This is the point where I get confused. I research and read everywhere too. I know my phone is unlocked for sure. It's not bricked yet. :fingers-crossed:
I don't know where I pick back up with the process using some of the recommendations you guys have given me.

Dev Edition: Rooting, Roming and Recovering

A few of us purchased the Dev Edition and it appears there are some things where clarification is required concerning the three "R's":
1. Rooting: I understand this wonderful rooting exercise is successful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2290798. I would think since the Dev Edition is unlocked, an owner would only utilize Step 3, and NOT the kernel exchange section. Correct?
2. ROMing: Since the ROMS were created using the Loki enabled system, does this affect ROMing the Dev Edition since it is already unlocked? What does a user need to do? Or, does it not matter? Do the Loki enabled ROMS work on a Dev Edition?
3. Recovery: Again, it appears TWRP and CWM are Loki adjusted, so does this affect recovery on the Dev Edition and restoring? Also, is there a Stock Factory Image which will NOT turn the phone back to a locked bootloader? Or, does the one which exists OK to use?
I only ask these questions since a few of us are somewhat confused.
Thanking you in advance!

I've been thinking about buying the Verizon S4 Dev Edition phone, but have been hesitant due to not knowing how simple it would be to root. Is it as simple as just running MotoChopper? Or is there a better way?
Being that the bootloader on this phone is truly unlocked, can you install the current versions of CWM or TWRP that are LOKI enabled, and will it work on this phone? I haven't seen any compiled versions that were non-loki (standard).
Same question goes for kernels too.
The first batch of Dev phones sold out in less than 24 hours, so I'd expect some of the people that have them would start posting their experience with it here soon. At least, I hope so!
Root failed when just applying the Motochopper step! It says it installs correctly and then it reboots and SuperSu is installed and then I checked for an upgrade which it took. However, it says it cannot install binary, there is a problem and closes.
I uninstalled SuperSu and tried a few times to root again but it doesn't work.
My phone states:
Kernel Version: 3.4.0-562219 dated May 15th
Build Number: JDQ439.I545OYUAMDK
Baseband: I545OYUAMDK
Must be something we can do....

It sounds like it. But wouldn't swapping kernels render the Dev Edition to a retail version? Kinda defeats the purpose, no? Or, am I missing something?
The question is: Does the Dev Edition have the same kernel as the Retail Edition? If so, then it would make sense to swap kernels. I think we need the devs to weigh in.

From what I've been able to gather, Samsung has put in place a SetUID restriction on the stock release kernel via CONFIG_SEC_RESTRICT_SETUID. Apparently the D2 prerelease kernel doesn't have this restriction in place. That seems to be why flashing that is required prior to using MotoChopper to gain root. What I can't figure out is why you can flash the release DK afterwards and still keep root?
On the T-Mobile and Sprint S4 they've been able to remove the SetUID restriction on their latest DL release kernel by recompiling the kernel source with the SetUID restriction commented out
Thanks for the thoughts and analysis. Hopefully someone will find an alternate
root method for the dev edition since it has been available for a week and it sold out in less than twenty four hours, somebody with know how must have purchased it and is tinkering as we speak.
I would hate to render it back to a retail version otherwise.

I think I may have found a solution. With the Developer Edition we have an unlocked bootloader, so there is no need to use loki. I was looking for a non-loki patched (normal) recovery that could be flashed in Odin. I think I found one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2322675. Look for the "Latest version can be found here" link, not the "loki patched" link. The filename is : Philz_touch_5.06.6-jfltevzw.tar.md5
If this works like it did in previous unlocked Samsung devices, then we should be able to flash the custom recovery in Odin, and then boot into recovery afterwards to flash SuperUser. From there, we're rooted.
If I had my dev edition S4, I'd test it out myself. But I'm still waiting for them to get back in stock!
Great..am somewhat game to try. Well report back. Thanks!!

Did you flash SuperSU from recovery via the zip file? (from this thread) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053. Look for the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.41.zip file in the download section.
This should give you root after flashing in recovery! If you can't get root in a root app after flashing this file, then the kernel is blocking root. You can thank Samsung for adding that in the DK kernel.
You can easily work around this by flashing a custom kernel!
Let me know how it goes.

Good question. From what I have seen thus far, the recovery is the piece that has to be Loki adjusted to allow it to be flashed on a locked bootloader. I don't think the ROM cares one way or the other. The only thing I still have questions about is the kernel. Is the kernel in the Developer Edition different than the carrier version?

If we could get an MD5 of the Developer DK kernel (boot.img), and compare it to the MD5 of a completely stock DK kernel (boot.img). Or maybe compare the kernel build numbers? I dunno, just throwing some ideas out.

Start researching odin. More than likely you will have to reinstall a clean image.

I advise you to search up odin, sounds like you have bricked your phone. Before you even start to root your phone, I advise you to read and re-read all the documentation of the process of rooting your phone. Making sure and double checking if that specific rooting process is made for your specific model and build version.
You can easily find out what build version and model you have by simply looking at your phone setting<more<about phone
Be very careful and double check before doing anything with custom roms.

Yes, but after flashing random, well-known to not work stuff onto the phone, the recovery assistant won't appear.

No, it wont. As in, it won't repair your phone.
Please read what you somehow managed to miss.
You'll need to re-flash your phone with an appropriate no-wipe or full-wipe rom from the development forum.
Then, once it's working, consider reading first before flashing anything else.

You can't install a custom recovery on your phone. The best you can get is safestrap so after reading up on Odin and you get your phone flashed I would check out the safestrap threads in general and the development forum.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.

Here... Read before you use Odin.

You just need to be more careful that's all. Odin really isn't hard and there's many threads on here explaining how to use it.

[Q] I need to learn how to Install recovery, Flash ROMS, And kernels..etc

Hello. Yesterday was my birthday and i got a used note 1 from my cousion. I came from the HTC evo 3D and i know how to fully root s-off, roms..etc. And i would really like to learn how to do the same to this phone as well. As of right now it has the 4.0.4 firmware on it ICS. I have never owned a samsung phone before and im really new to all of this for the note. I will thank any help i get! I cant wait to start flashing ROMS and kernels to this phone!! . Also once i flash the recovery how do i boot into it? And will i be able to flash roms directly from the phone? I know there is a program called odin that is used to flash recoverys and kernels i think. Last question would be.. Where can i find usb drivers for windows 8.1 for the note 1. Thanks again!

What rom did you flash? Some kit Kat roms require you using cwm recovery. Try flashing a different rom.

Well I just flashed a jellybean 4.1.2 ROM and it is working perfect. But I still want kitkat. I don't remember the name of the one I tried to flash. My main question is when I flash jb, ICS, or kitkat. Do they all just work after flash or do I need some kinda different boot thing like my HTC needed? Last thing is I could not find a flashable cwm recovery through Odin. Do I have to flash it with an app through the phone? PS: If it is as easy to flash things to this phone as easy as I think that would be awesome. So far I am LOVING THIS THING. Samsung might be my new favorite brand.. I had to do so many things to my HTC evo 3D just for custom kernels to be on it. Thanks for any help I get.

Update: Flashed cwm non touch recovery through the app. And I also flashed the candy shop kitkat 4.4.2 ROM, upon boot the WiFi would not work so I am back on the jb 4.1.2 ROM and I am now downloading hellybean jb 4.3 now. I wiped the data before I installed the kitkat ROM and there is no option in recovery to wipe the system so I guess every ROM I install it will overwrite which is kinda weird. I will try to flash the touch version of cwm later.. The one on the forum you gave me says access denied on my phone when I try to download the latest one. But It did work on my pc so I'll get it from there..

Glad your researching!
I also recommend reading the rom descriptions, and instructions. Some builders will clue you in as to which recovery to use, and what gapps need flashed.
I also recommend skimming thru the posts to see what issues other users may have had. They might of given you a clue as to why the Wi-Fi didn't work.

Can you possibly tell me what I can do to make my games run faster on this phone? I ran quadrant and got 3100 as the score. That seems a bit low in my opinion. Or maybe you can tell me what rom is faster. Idk.

Need help making a couple choices

Hey guys, so the last phone I rooted and had a bootstrap on with custom roms was the Motorola Droid x2. We couldn't even get into the kernel. So with that being said I've acquired super user on my g3 months ago to freeze apps. But now I don't depend on my phone like I did then for work. So I want to do the whole thing and I'm unsure what choices to make. I'm not looking for a guide for installing stuff (at least not yet ) just trying to get suggestions and hopefully good recommendations.
So here's the main point for the post
TLDR!!!!!
Current android version 5.0.1
kernels- unlock it? Change it? Not sure what all you can actually do with that.
Bootstrap- clock work mod? Or any other one can't think of names but need something to load roms
Rom for battery and power- cyanogenmod is what I use to run on the x2 not sure if it's still one of the best?
Anything else I missed that I should get and check out?
Thanks in advance
Put TWRP custom recovery on your phone with the autorec TWRP app by @bender_007, in the General section of the non-variant specific G3 sections. Once you give the app superuser permissions it looks like it's hung up but give it 10-30 seconds because it's backing up your current recovery. Then click the button to install TWRP. Download the latest TWRP v2.8.7.0 from its thread also somewhere in the G3 sections, and flash it from your current TWRP.
I use @xdabbeb 's VS985 v2.0 ROM, which is based on the latest official LG ROM, build 35B, based on Android 5.1.1. Very happy with it, very smooth and great on battery.
I haven't heard the term bootstrap with regards to custom recoveries. I'd suggest just calling them custom recoveries.
Thanks for your input it's been a while after I read it I was like yep it's custom recoveries lol thank you again
