Hi there.
I have the following issue:
My old phone is a rooted htc vision (android 2.3). I want to transfer app data (savegames, settings, whatsapp verification, etc...) to my new phone which is an unrooted nexus 5.
I have titanium backups of my 2.3 apps but i can't use them on my nexus 5 as it is not rooted.
Is there a way to use the titanium backup files with helium (which works without root)?!
Or do i have any other opportunity to get the existing app data from the old phone to the new one without rooting the nexus?
I am exactly in the same situation. Would anybody share some ideas on how to go about doing this? I even tried searching for an older version of helium but that didn't work out too well.
I''ve done it with helium only.
I installed an ICS rom on my htc vision (any andoid 4.x rom will do) and simply used helium to back up all my apps (including data).
Then used helium to restore everything on the nexus again, done.
Followed what you said. Flashed a 4.x ROM on my MT4G and was able to install helium on it. Although I had to actually buy the premium version of helium ($4.99) to restore from my MT4G, I was finally able to transfer the data across my devices. Thanks!

Hi, I'm new here as I just switched from my iPhone 3G to the atrix. I'm planning on rooting it soon but I want to make sure I don't screw anything up. I'm used to the iTunes backup and sync features, so I was wondering how that works on android phones, the atrix in particular. If something goes wrong and I can't access my phone, how can I restore it from my computer?
Also, how do apps sync? If I restore my phone to factory settings but apps are listed as installed on my account, then it won't let me reinstall those apps, will it?
Ok, I'm assuming there's no way to backup the phone without rooting. I was referring to something like making an image of the phone or atleast getting the basic firmware(like for the iPhone).
As for apps, if I get a new phone or wipe my current phone, I won't have to redownload anything right? Will it sync from the market?
But my data will be lost right (like game saves)? So I can use apps like Titanium Backup to that data right?
I just wanted to clarify this before I messed around with anything.
If you've wiped your phone, or get another phone, you can always download the apps you've purchased either from your phone or from a pc. They're linked to your gmail account.
Once you're rooted, you can use Titanium Backup. You can also use Tenfar's port of the Clockwork Mod to make what amounts to a snapshot of your current system via a nandroid backup. I've had to restore from that once after hosing my system. Works well.
I am new to HTC devices, coming from Motorola Droids. I have read a lot of the info here but still have a few noob questions. I am currently running RezROM 1.5 and like it a lot. But I would like to get the OTA update for the new radio and I would also like to check out some of the ICS ROM's.
So question is: Is there an easy way to restore user data and apps after flashing ROM's? Many of the ROM's I see suggest or require full wipe and often recommend not restoring anything. I have had problems restoring data (both on Motorola and HTC) with Titanium backup.
Thanks!

The apps part is easy. Backup your /data/app/ somewhere before changing ROMs. Then drop it everything back in /data/app/ afterward. All you're backing up though is the installed application, not the data. Data is not recommended across many ROMs so I don't even think about it.
I've tried a few ways... but ultimately. I just deal with resetting everything up the way I want.
I've used MyBackup. It does alright. Takes forever if you have a lot of SMS messages. And it doesn't exactly get all of your system settings either. I also had a problem where I factory reset, re-installed all my apps. and then ran MyBackup restore to get the home screens back in order and while it did, none of the app buttons worked. So I had to replace everything, but at least I knew where things belonged I guess...
Eitherway, haven't been that impressed with any of the backup/restore things as of yet. I'm feeling bold enough to say there isn't a SlamDunk solution out there that'll work for everyone, but the ones that do exist might do enough for you to be happy.
The best way I have found by far is to use the app "App Monster Pro".
You can have that app made a BU copy of the APK for all your installed apps to a folder on your storage card. Then, after a ROM flash you just go to that folder & click on whatever APK's you want installed for the new ROM & you get a completely clean new install of everything in no time.
That way it a little slower than a TI batch recover, but the difference is it works 100% right 100% of the time (something TI & My BU Pro NEVER do)
It doesn't restore text messages, but I never had any desire to do that anyway (it always cracked me up when I had my TouchPro 2 & people would post I just restored 4200 text messages to my new ROM & now my phone is freezing constantly when texting, what do I do??)
I just use ES File Explorer to backup my apps, as for data, for me, my critical data are my contacts, so I just sync those up with my google account.
I second AppMonster Pro for just apps. I love that as soon as you download an app it makes a backup of it so you never have to think about it. And when restoring it's easy on the eyes, unlike TiBU which I find I have to search around a lot before I find what I'm trying to restore. Still I use three back up systems - AppMonster Pro, MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup Pro - just in case so if one fails I have others to turn to.
Hey guys, I just got my S3 yesterday. I encountered some problems and I think should be no one met this problem, hope some of you can help me.
Previously I was using SGS, and I rooted and flashed a custom rom which is this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442169&highlight=doc+s+rom
So, I did Titanium Backup and GO backup (for spare) on SGS. On S3, I rooted it for installing Titanium Backup, I copied the Titanium Backup files and move it all into my S3 through PC.
Both devices running on same android version 4.0.4, SGS is on custom rom but S3 is still on stock rom. At first I think my files on SGS can be transfer and backup on S3, but eventually I did all the backups, but all the apps (only user apps) are still cannot open, such as LINE, Talkbox, Whatsapp and etc. Open the app and it will close it automatically.
And also, some of the apps such as LINE needs to register with the phone number. Previously I registered on SGS, now my number transfer to S3 and LINE cannot be open in SGS anymore. When I backup in S3 and it ask me to register with phone number, and I did, but it became a new app, no chat history, no added friends. Is it because I register on S3 and so my SGS does not recognize the LINE app?
What I concerned about is the chat history, I need it so much. Everytime I flashed a new custom rom, I did the backups on SGS, from GB 2.3.3 until ICS 4.0.4, and the backups are works. But this time, I really cannot figure out what problem I am having now.
I still using the same number, from a normal SIM to micro SIM,
1. Is it because does not working to transfer file from different devices?
2. Is it because my number use on a new device, and all the previous data cannot be transfer?
Any kind soul please give me some guidance?
I really NEED to transfer the old chat history into my S3, I don't want to lose it because it is my memories.
generally its not advisable to restore a backup of one device to another device, but as you said its working for you earlier. try restoring the apps alone in TB and later restore the data of the specific apps you need.

Thanks for reply. Yes is working only in SGS.I tried restoring the app alone in TB and restore the data of the specific app in S3, and is still not working. It still close automatically.
Does anyone knows how to restore a backup from one device to another device?
Or maybe I transfer back my number to my SGS, and everything will be same as before?
Can anyone recommend a system backup/restore app that I can use to save my apps and settings, then later restore them to a new phone? I tried Helium last time but when I tried to restore my backup it told me that my backup file was invalid, so I'd like to try something more reliable this time!
I'm running stock Android 7, not rooted.
Titanium Backup (paid version) is what I've been using for years since it backs up to the external SD - plus I use the regular Google sync to backup my settings etc. That way I'm back online pretty fast after flashing a new rom

note 8, pie, 9.0, alexndr rom. rooted.
Does anyone know of a way to completely backup the phone. app data, emails. Essentially im looking for something that backups up everything. Its ncrypted so cant use twrp. I have titanium but its a long process backing up. Anything that can backup to sd or on pc. Thanks.
You can't do it without root access.
If you have root access than titanium backup is perfect for this job or using recovery backup option you can backup whole phone.
Unfortunately without root access your options are very limited.
You may try to do so by giving all access / previlages to your phone to Google and Samsung and using their apps making a cloud backups.
