EFS v2 to AOSP Rom - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys im on Neat Rom MK6 4.3 and im on MG4 modem which uses EFS v2. Now I want to flash and AOSP Rom either Cyanfox or Slimkat. Will I have issues on my IMEI after flashing those AOSP/CM based roms? because right now im using EFS v2 which is MG4. Thanks

you would not have problems because the roms based on CM or AOSP, do not change modem, you would be with the same modem you wear now.

And getting back to Stock?
I mean, if I want to switch back from aosp to Touchwiz based roms, should i flash one with same baseband or another one supported by efs v2, righr?

Yes MG4 or higher modems only. Like MG2 from 4.1 will cause issues.

You can go back to your previous baseband if you have its backup.
But I would advice not to do so as it might corrupt your efs. So just stay on newer basebands.

Ok, now i'm done. So once you get a newer baseband, NEVER go back to the previous one, it doesn't matter if it's supported by efs v2

yeah it should fix your issue.
how/why did your IMEI change in the first place?
yes, i installed omega v14
and what about if i restore some on else efs file

you would get their imei details, not advisable, I believe it is possible to edit the contents of the efs files, but I never tried this before
I think its because omega v14 uses a custom kernel compared to v13 that uses stock.

It comes from rom and not kernel!
If a custom rom include Kernel X and messed up the efs then all people who flashed this Kernel X on their phone (with stock or custom rom) should have the same issue
Now this issue only seems to happen to those who flash Rom Y including Kernel X and do not seems to hapeen to those who only flash Kernel X
The best answer would be to ask to rom dev why his rom messed up efs in some phone...

i have just 2 or 3 simple questions. especific quesitons that i cannot find the answer on your post. or maybe the answer is on the next 11 pages? you mention on your post only MG4 roms or newer. don't say anything about Mh2 . so the questions is kinda easy, would i am able to have signal and imea read on a 4.1.2 if i flash a mg4 modem after install ? . and same thing happen to 4.2.2 or 4.3 will i have to always flash a custom modem to have my imea readden?

I've got this fragment you wrote.
"If you have ever flashed XXEMG* (or newer) ROM, to keep your IMEI working, you must:
Stay with the EFS v2 basebands (MG* or newer). You may flash other ROMs but must return to the MG* (or newer) baseband
Restore your EFS backup (taken before XXEMG* or newer ROM install) to use older (EFS v1) basebands. EFS backup must be an EFSv1 backup to use an EFS v1 baseband
If the above don't work, consider sending for repair... "
SO i will have to back up and restore the mg4 mh2 efs every time i want to change rom for a older one.. do you know if 4.3 (as it will be obviosly new) will have a mg4 or mh2 mh1 modem? . im kinda having problems on my calls . internet and messanging are just fine . but some times when i want to call the automatic operator says " the call could not be proccesed" but dunno if this is a signal problem or it is just me.

yeah I know but which one (the build number) something like XXELLA or XXEMG4...? you can see it in settings menu
in fact if you have flashed a firmware older than XXEMG4 then also its baseband is flashed, and these old basebands are not compatible with efs v2 which has been flashed through your sammy 4.3 update.
This could PROBABLY have caused your imei problem and you would only have to flash a baseband newer than XXEMG4 to PROBABLY solve it. or your efs is corrupt than you should follow the steps in the stickies

You Flashed DEVIL KERNEL?
If you did http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/orig-development/kernel-devil2-2-3-2-omni-cm-samsung-t2528624 the first flashers LOSE Their baseband too.

Bump for me
Flash the full stock rom for your country with Odin then factory reset in recovery. If efs is not read by the stock rom then restore your efs backup.
No backup then you'll have to pay for a repair.

If your IMEI is 0049 or null, try to use a patched MG4 modem first. Revolutionary roms don't have modem in them so that can cause some issues occasionally.
Let me know if it works.

Hello There,
I think the problem is the rom itself, i advise you to degrade your phone to its stock rom/orig rom and find a better rom.

- I would recommend never to post imei anywhere
- If the imei matches then all's ok.
- Stock rom depends on the country. You can search on sammobile and flash with Odin. 4.3 not recommended if you like flashing roms.

I'm guessing that you made no efs backup? Do your phone's cellular functions or wi-fi work while running a custom rom? What kind of GS3 do you own (i9300 or i9305?).

You cannot go backwards to 4.1 with out a efs v1 back up. Somewhere in 4.3 samsung updated it to v2.
Without a back up you can only use the latest 4.3 and upwards.
