[Q] Virgin (ZTE) Awe ROM? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I just obtained a new Moto G which I am planning to use from now on, and I decided it would be beneficial to root my old phone -- Virgin (ZTE) Awe (N800) -- and try to gain some experience in the field of development. Mainly, however, I just wanted to upgrade the OS. I successfully rooted the phone using Kingo Android root; then I went on to try to install Cyanogenmod 11. However, it said my phone was unsupported.
Next step -- do it manually. So I downloaded the Android SDK and tried to get ABD running -- with no luck -- as I was trying to use abd sideload to load the OS file for Android 4.2 (but for Nexus 7). However, with failure after failure of trying to load abd, I has to ask myself: Will I brick my phone?
So, any thoughts? Are ROMs phone-specific? Can I get a better ROM for this phone? Would I brick it if I tried to load another phone's rom?
Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

[Q] Kuno tablet

I recently received a Kuno Tablet. It has the same physical characteristics as the 10.1 except for the lack of a hdmi out. Its running android 2.3.1 with a 1.2ghz processor. I have been trying to find some way to root this tablet for a few days now and have had no luck whatsoever. As far as I know no one else has even attempted to root one of these. Help of any kind would be appreciated and I will do my best to answer any questions. I am considering trying petes root tools or gingerbreak but i have my doubts that this will work. I have tried to put the device into some sort of recovery mode but have had no luck so far with any of the button combinations I tried.
Hi xsurferx,
the Kuno really looks like the Archos 101... the chinese engineers are incredible.
Under the hood there's different hardware working.
The manufacturers website mentions a [email protected]
http://mykuno.com/kuno-specs.html
Due to this fact there's nothing in common with the way Archos created the firmware on the A101 and the way you could root this device.
You could try to find out how the firmware looks like on your Kuno... but i guess this is not the right place to discuss these things.
Anyway, good luck!

Progress
Any progress on trying to root the Kuno tablet? Superoneclick says that it roots it successfully but Superuser does not get installed. Is there at least a way to flash Gapps onto it? I can't even set up a gmail account unless I use the IMAP settings
super one clicks havent worked for me yet either however, i do work for the high school that i attend on their tablets and anything else they need done, through contact with the company that created the tablets ive learned that the tablet does not have a recovery mode and that the tablets actually have to be imaged like a computer would. So once i get my hands on an image i should be able to modify it to allow root access. If that fails im going to try rooting it through adb and installing superuser that way as well
what shcool has the funds to buy tablets like that?
So you just help them>?
lots of them
Many schools are going to one to one devices to try and help students learn and while they are expensive most of it is payed for by grants and other funds. I do anything they need from pc to mac and android. The tablets will be given out to freshman this coming semester and they want to see just how locked down these are and im assuming that rooting them will be the first step to unlocking them from the cirruculumloft software they are using. They want to see how to unlock them so they can prevent it in the future. Which is where i come in.
Status...
The kuno tablet has a recovery system that can only be accessed by flashing a new firmware to it, however, it is not possible to get this firmware without getting it from the company that made the tablet. So...in order to root the tablet you have to create a custom firmware from scratch for the tablet because the firmware on the tablet was designed in such a way that the android market can not run on it. The company removed the directories and other items the market needs to run. You can not connect the tablet through adb, nor can you install from SD or even access the SD card from inside the firmware the tablets are currently running. In order to root this tablet we would need to create a custom firmware and then flash it onto the tablet. Anyone interested in trying? Also, super one clicks will brick the device, I'm surprised yours still worked after that.
new discoveries
The market will run on the tablet, i was lied to on that one. The tablet connects through adb very easily and most commands work in adb. unfortunately you can not reboot into recovery or the boot loader through adb
unrevoked won't find my tablet. what do i do now?
this
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=unrevoked+won't+find+my+kuno+tablet,+What+now?
I work for a company that will be selling these Kuno tablets to schools. A CurriculumLoft Employee told me these tablets are not approved by Google so that makes them not able to use the android market. I have found that these can use the Amazon App market.
Figured it out!!!
After working on this for the better part of 6 months i have finally achieved root and flashed a custom rom with CWM recovery installed. I found that the Kuno tablet is essentially the same as the Arnova 10 G2 tablet with the exception of hard drive size. Here is the link to the site and instructions i used to flash the rom. If any one has any questions let me know.

Can the LG Viper 4G LTE (LS84) be rooted?

Hi guys my girlfriend bought a LG Viper 4G LTE and she told me to root it to remove the sprint crap, so I was wondering if anyone has already done this and if yes, can they tell me how to s-off + root + custom recovery + and probably custom ROM.
If anyone can help, please I'll appreciate it. Since I searched here for that phone and is not even listed.
The phone is running android 4.0.4, is this ICS or Jelly bean?
I do not know how to get into fast boot boot loader cause I don't think it is POWER + VOL DOWN.
Thanks in advanced
Have a nice day

Im trying to root mine right now and can't seem to get it to work, I've tried Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v21 and LG-Viper-ICS-Root-tool with no luck. If i get it to run all the way though and reboot it still comes up without root and with no super user. I am starting to think I may have to find a way to downgrade it and root from there.....Did you ever have any luck?

I've downgraded and rooted so far and its working, I may look for a rom before i upgrade again.
Confirmed above!

I can confirm that the above will work. I have a refurbished Viper from Sprint that I got because my 3G radio quit sending. It would receive great, but couldn't send any MMS or upload anything while on 3G. 4G was great, just no joy on 3G. Strangest thing. Anyway, got the phone replaced, and on the replacement was of course the dreaded unrooted ZVK. Gotta have my root back...
So I decided to try all this stuff out, and It worked.
To add a little further info, if you've got a relatively bare install of Windows, especially XP, you might need BOTH the VisualC++ Runtime Redistributables from 2010 (mentioned in the above thread) AND the one from 2008! If you don't have both, the LG FlashTool will not run. You can find them on Microsoft's site.
Once the flash tool has successfully downgraded your Viper, make sure you perform a factory reset, as indicated in the instructions for the FlashTool. Then use the "Activate" app to get your 3G/4G on. After that, set up your Google account under "Accounts and Sync" in "Settings".
I did the whole operation completely on a linux system, using a virtual machine running Windows XP for the FlashTool, then the bash script from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43530152&postcount=3253 with the v.31 rooting tool from the original post in that thread.
I had to edit the script in a very minor way, as was pointed out by its author, so it could find my adb command. I just placed the path to that command in the line that said:
Code:
for test_adb in "adb" "stuff/adb"
in the place of the first "adb", so I got:
Code:
for test_adb in "/home/user/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools/adb" "stuff/adb"
Make sure to replace "user" with your username, without the quotes.
Then I stuck the script in the same folder as the runme.bat file. After the script and root tool had done their work, my phone had rebooted a total of three times, and I had a perfectly functional Superuser app!
Huge thanks to LoveMyAndroid2010 in the post linked above. Great script - some love for linux!
Now to get RootKeeper and upgrade back to ZVK...
The aforementioned root method worked for me. Since I've rooted, I've compiled my findings into another thread. I haven't been able to unlock the bootloader yet, unfortunately.
how to upgrade LG Viper to Jelly bean or higher
After I root as per instructions, how can I upgrade the OS?
Please help. I'm a newbie and would appreciate any help you may offer. Haven't rooted any phone before.

[Q] LG Optimus Exceed (aka LG Lucid) VS840PP won't take a root

After scrounging, searching, hunting, and generally scrubbing every tree/rock/bush for answers, I have decided that it is time to post. As I am new to these forums, I sincerely appreciate any assistance in this matter. I have tried the only two methods that I can find to root my phone. the one by Bin4ry which is found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460. and another one from a different site that was for JB. I have made sure that both debugging is on as well as allowing installations of non-market applications. I have tried every single usb mode, that just on the off chance, mine was that one phone that wanted to seperate itself from society. Since my phone is running ICS 4.0.4 I should be using Bin4ry's version, but I get stopped by this
Code:

I wish someone would resolve this I see people all over the place bragging they have rooted their exceeds "showing proof" and no-one seems to give a crap that some people can't afford the most easily rooted phones and are forced to get the most workable less expensive phones. I have student loans and would have to pay a $400.00 deposit to be able to pay 150 dollars for a semi decent phone and my carrier won't allow me to use the phone I've had for a couple years that I rooted myself. I just want a viable answer to how do you root the exceed I know what I'm doing but I work for a living (making very little at that) and have a child to support so I can't devote a week to figuring it out and am frustrated that nobody seems to give a crap about anything but the new razr or the iphone (trendys).

Yep, I just rooted my VS840PP, seems you need to use the Lg Spectrum root, but since I'm new I can't post links, but you will need the driver file "LG VZW_United_WHQL_v2.11.0.exe" and "LG_Spectrum_ICS.zip" (put these into a search engine)
Install Instructions
Download and unzip
Connect your phone to your PC
Make sure to have the LG USB drivers installed
Make sure to have debugging enabled
Make sure to have USB connectivity set to internet connection
Run the script for your OS (.bat for Windows, .sh for Linux)
Enjoy
I really did think it would make my phone not boot, but surprisingly it worked! EDIT 8-16-13 treat this phone like any other LG Lucid, which means you can go to CM 10 4.1 Jellybean on this phone.

Yeah one which is Android 4.1.2, the file is called "cm-10-20130424-UNOFFICIAL-vs840.zip", but you have to rollback to GB 2.3.6(due to locked ics bootloader), install root, CWM and finally install the CM 10 based LG Lucid beta rom. I see you edited your post and yes it is the standard LG Lucid Gingerbread downgrade method. The forum thread title is "[ROM][BETA] CyanogenMod 10 for the LG Lucid" and its on "androidforums.com" all info you need should be in that forum thread. I can tell you that Jellybean works very well on this phone, and I never want to go back to 4.0.4. :good: But of course there are some bugs, as it seems signal strength is lower, but I may have the wrong baseband for this phone.

You may have to install the baseband for the Exceed. I think in the CyanogenMod beta thread on AndroidForums there is a link but I'm not sure. Use ROM Manager to install CWM Recovery and then Flash CM10.

As long as you're rooted, search on the internet for "cwm installer for lucid" and follow the install instructions on gingerbread, then you want to flash the CWM touch recovery by searching for LGVS840_CWMT.zip and clicking on "CWM Touch Flashable Recovery for LG Lucid 4G - LG Cell Phones ..." Make sure you have the CWMT zip and LG Lucid CM 10.1 zip on your micro sd card. You then use rom manager to boot into recovery and flash the CWMT zip, then do a factory reset and clear caches and finally flash the LG Lucid CM 10.1 available on androidforums.

May I ask which firmware are you suppose to use to do a roll back? Can you just use the Lucid's firmware or does it have to be the Exceed firmware to work for the roll back?

It's the stock gingerbread for the LG Lucid and you look for the method to install with LG's tool and you will need the file "VS840ZV6_06.S6_06.P58014.R5.cab" and look for how to roll back to gingerbread on the lg lucid to find out how to roll it back.

Thanks a bunch, I thought it would be okay to do that but just wanted to make sure before doing it.
Hmm, after restoring successfully, for some reason I cant get the Wi-Fi to work. I tried both versions the V5 and V6 in the dropbox posted on android forum. Can root and everything but unable to access any internet without wifi. Kinda stuck without CWM. Any clues?
Edited: Whoops, Haha, a Factory Reset fixed it.
Edited: Blah after being able to install Rom Manager and installing CWM "Successful" I still get into CWM recovery.
Edited: CWM solved but now I get the "Cant Mount Sd" in CWM. Trided both "fat and "extFAT" and no go. Any Help?
Edited: Finally! Bad SD card! CM 10 up and running! Woot!

Glad to see you got CM 10 on this phone, since it runs pretty good, the only issue I had is the way it handles low signal areas, which is why I upgraded to the LG Spectrum plus I wanted Verizon 4G LTE.

I think I may have had the same issue and it turned out the root files didn't extract correctly the first time, so I deleted the root files and extracted them again and it worked. Of course I can't exactly remember it now, but its worth a try. EDIT: Wait no, it looks like root installed fine, are you on stock ICS or Gingerbread? As Gingerbread has special root tools that are different from ics, also make sure you have superSU installed and try the root checker from the playstore.

New to the community and was hoping this was a good place for a related question. I have an exceed and I rooted without problem yesterday. I believe my SD Maid app deleted some important files or something because I stopped receiving incoming calls and texts. Anyway, I soft bricked my phone a few times and got the "Long time no see" message. I thought I unrooted my phone so I tried doing a hard reset thinking I would possibly fix the problem. That made matters worse. My soft brick became the only thing I could see no matter how many times I pulled the battery out and rebooted I was stuck at that screen. After hours of trying to get my pc to recognize my phone/get my phone in download mode, I finally fixed it and rooted again. Problem is that when I went through the unbrick process and flashed the kdz file to my phone, it was then stuck in activate mode. It wasnt a big deal because I just played dumb with verizon and they fixed it in their system being that when trying to activate it didnt give me the option to activate on my same plan/number. A bit annoying but better than nothing. My question is when I roll back to gingerbread or flash CM10 will I be stuck in activation mode again? Sorry for the long post, just figured I would give the what and why before my question!

You mean the activation screen, that you can quite easily bypass, also once it is is active it doesn't need to be activated again. Here is how to bypass activation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WGKCdlnt1s
wow how did i miss that one!

Trying to root Verizon Note 2 on 4.4.2 ND7... no dice | Update: Rooted successfully!

Massive update: I was able to root my phone successfully! Read my post below for detailed steps and why I think it worked!
Hi. New guy around. Disclaimer: I live in the Dominican Republic, using the Orange carrier, despite having a Verizon device.
I currently own a Verizon Galaxy Note 2 SCH-I605 which, until yesterday, was rooted and running a 4.3 stock ROM. Because of the Pokémon Go craze, I did my research and figured I could update the phone to 4.4, the minimum version required for Go. So I downloaded the Samsung software (running Win10 here), connected the phone, and upgraded the OS. After the upgrade, I obviously lost root, but also got a bunch of bloatware I had originally deleted when I first rooted it (NFL, IMDB and a bunch of other crap), and now, no matter what the hell I do, none of the multiple methods I've tried will work for rooting the phone. Off the top of my head, Odin fails with a NAND write error, CASUAL loops trying to install the same thing continuously, and the Android Toolkit clearly states that it can't root (I thought it could).
Currently these are the phone/OS specs:
Android version: 4.4.2
Baseband: I605VRUFND7
Kernel version: 3.0.31
Build number: KOT49H.I605VRUFND7
SE for Android status: Enforcing
Hardware version: I605.06
While doing my research, I've read that if the bootloader is locked, there's no luck for me in trying to root this thing, but I have no way of telling whether it is indeed locked or not. Furthermore, this update applies an unreasonable amount of annoyance to my phone, including not being able to write to the external SD card.
Is there anything I can do to get my phone rooted safely? If not, is there any reasonably foolproof way for me to return to the previous version (4.3) so that I can keep the device rooted?
I will appreciate any input on this. Thanks in advance and apologies if I'm breaking any rules with this thread; I went over the rules and didn't see anything I could be breaking with this.

Nope you are stuck on 4.4.2 since you upgraded and locked the bootloader. Only way back is to send it to a company but thats located in the states and im sure its not worth it. I believe you can still root though using towel root. Thats why you never accept updates. There are some stock roms you can flash now with that option, using R3Ds rom may be your best option.
Update: I was able to root the phone!
Essentially, this reddit post had what I needed: reddit.com/r/AndroidQuestions/comments/2oekwf/can_i_root_my_verizon_note_2_schi605_442/cmn5y51
What I think saved me was the fact that the phone had been rooted before the upgrade, so Root Browser, SuperSU and Busy Box were still there, even if they weren't running anymore.
I repeated the steps on it up until the second time I had to run adb devices to ensure the device was still connected — at this point I had to kill the adb server and start it again. After that, I finished the process with ghettoroot 0.2.2, but didn't see anything new or different on my phone. Then an idea occurred to me — what if SuperSU was failing to install because it was already there? So I fired up Root Browser (which wasn't deleted with the upgrade) and found the location of the SuperSU apk, reinstalled it, and voilá: root access again!
With full credits to the reddit user who posted that message, I'm going to repost and reorganize the entire process here for future reference:
Ensure you have the device drivers for the Note 2, you can get them from the Samsung site
Download Ghettoroot 0.2.2 and 0.3.2 from here: forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55170966&postcount=1
Unzip both in an easily accessible location, make sure each has their own folder
Open a CMD window with "Run as Admin"
In the CMD window, navigate to the folder containing Ghettoroot 0.3.2
Inside this folder, type cd tools\win\adb and run the command adb devices (this should show you if your phone is recognized and connected)
Type cd ..\..\.. to return to the Ghettoroot 0.3.2 folder
Type install.cmd and let it run (remember, we're running 0.3.2)
Let the phone reboot and leave Installer mode
Run the cleanup; chances are it will fail, so try again until it works (it should, eventually — it took me a bunch of tries until it finally worked)
Type cd tools\win\adb to enter the adb folder
Type adb kill-server to kill adb, then type adb start-server to restart it (I needed this step because after running Ghettoroot adb wouldn't see my device anymore)
Type adb devices to ensure your device is still visible to adb
Now navigate to the Ghettoroot 0.2.2 folder
Type Type install.cmd and let it run (remember, this time we're running 0.2.2)
Let the phone reboot and leave Installer mode
Run cleanup again until it works
This SHOULD be enough to root your phone, especially if it was rooted before. If it was indeed rooted before, you should already have Root Browser and SuperSU in your /system/app folder, so navigate there and run/install Superuser.apk and execute it to be granted root access. I can't say if this would work if the phone wasn't rooted on 4.3, and I'm really iffy about mucking around with my device now that I safely got it rooted — apologies for not being able to offer more in-depth testing. But for what it's worth, I was finally able to root my Verizon Note 2 running ND7 with the above steps.
Hope this helps someone else out there.
Thanks so much! Somehow I lost root after a SuperSU update (?) from the Play Store. I'd forgotten how much trouble rooting this was.

sgh I337 trouble flashing ROM

hey everyone! this was my 1st time playing with modding my android device,I must say it's so fun and I'm hooked! so i have :
ATT sgh I337 with android 4.4.4 Nj4
rooted with kingroot
i have tried to load cm11 from the ext sd card, i did tons of research and read all the guides. I think my problem lies with the bootloader. I still have a secure bootloader status. I looked into safestrap, and even though i installed it, and it said it was complete, upon recover boot, it did not load. I have had crazy problems trying to get ADB working because i am running windows 8.1 on my laptop After all this, my google play services / framework is jacked up, because google play cannot connect to their server. but my main goal was to load a good ROM like CM 11 and be able to have more control over my device's operations. any advice or comments for me are appreciated, I'm fairly sure my problem is the bootloader, from what i read about this phone and att
