[Q] GPE Kernel with HTC's Camera tweaks - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

I've finally decided to root my Tmo edition HTC One and flash a GPE with the latest version but the only thing that is stopping me is the software for the Camera. I know that with the official Sense updates HTC included software in the kernel to make the most of the 4 ultrapixel camera that may not be included in the stock version.
My questions are:
1) what's a fast, stable, up to date, feature packed stock ROM
2) what kernel would work best to ensure good quality photos and sound? O/c and stuff is optional as i dont mess with that at all.

I would be curious about the answer to these questions as well.

hi
i have a htc hero with official latest rom, which custom rom is the best to update to
also what is main diffierence between custom rom and official rom
and please do reply
thanks
Read the threads in this forum, they've listed pros/cons and instructions on how to install as well as what's included in each.
The choices you have are:
- MoDaCo 2.6 (from a happy tradition of about 15 releases since about the start of September)
- Drizzy's Hero ROM (One version released, now unmaintained)
- Drizzy's Hero Blur Port (0.6-r2, maintained by other users on this forum and Drizzy himself now I think, it's a port of the Motorola Blur UI on to the Hero platform)
- Donut ION Port (Plain jain Android Donut build on the Hero)
If you want a good user experience that's an improvement of the HTC Hero builds, definitely without doubt get Modaco 2.6, but if youre into bug tracking, fixing, hacking and development give one of the others a go and help the community I guess.
ok thank you is it really worth going to modaco from offical rom? also will it still be same android os?
thanks
Well, you have to make up your mind yourself, but I'd say absolutely without a doubt.
I'm not sure what HTC Rom you have at the moment, but the original ROM was terrible, just attrocious, and Modaco's ROM (1.5 at the time, I think), was a god send. And its just been getting better even since.
Put Amons Hero recovery image v1.2.3 on, get it to partition your SD card correctly ready for Apps2sd, then get Pauls MCR 2.6 rom on your phone, you wont regret it

What are my options ?

Hello all!
I'm new to this and I have a few questions.
I have been reading around a little bit but it doesn't help much when you have so many codenames like Eclair, donut, vanilla and now CyanogenMod-5 that I got interested.
I have a HTC Hero, I would wait for HTC update to have Android 2.1 but the update got delayed to June. I don't want to wait 2 months for it and that's how I decided to try flashing it.
1) What are my ROM options to flash it? Is it all of them compatible or just a few ? Like, only Hero-compatible ROMs or ROMs compatible to devices that support Android ?
2) Basically I want Android 2.1 (Eclair, right?) but don't want to lose the HTC UI. Is that possible ? (the look, the widgets, etc..)
3) On the other hand, not only I don't want to lose HTC's UI as I'd like more of it. HTC Desire for example has more and new widgets that Hero doesn't have. Is there a community ROM that contains those ? Do I need a special ROM for that ?
4) Does all the ROMs contains the latest dev kernel versions ? the latest android dev version that is.
5) Does it have an auto update to update the ROM ?
6) What's the difference between Vanilla and Donut ? I see many talking about Vanilla, but shoulnd't I want the Donut instead ? ( sounded funny, I know )
Thank you in advance !
Looking forward to socialize in this forum.

1. Only HTC Hero rom's should be flashed (if you're not on Sprint Hero then you're GSM so look for GSM rom's = most) - the wiki has a page dedicated to which rom's are available.
2. HTC theme is called rosie, so look for a rosie enabled rom
3. Some extra widgets come with them - check with each release (you can find them all in the development section)
4. No, most are based upon leaked kernals which have been hacked together to work, they work well enough but as soon as the official 2.1 kernal is available for the hero it will be added in to the rom's
5. Some have OTA updates (e.g. VillainROM)
6. Vanilla just means without the HTC Sense UI (Rosie) so you don't want a vanilla rom. Donut is v1.5 (or maybe 1.6?) of android i believe.
And welcome to the community
Check out my guides for all your needs XD

Thank you! that helped tons!
One more question, mine is not Sprint Hero, just Hero
So it's certain that this is a GSM device ?
How can I tell if it's GSM or CDMA ?
gsm means u can use any sim card
cdma means u cant
Awesome. So mine must be GSM.
Now, what is Radio ROM ?
What is Radio ? Do I have to flash that as well ?
EDIT: I think I get it. It can improve the signal, yes ?
But is it safe to flash this? what are my restrictions?
Looks much more dangerous than flashing a custom ROM
Ok, much more complicated than I thought!
I need to downgrade my kernel first,
didn't find any up to date tutorials on that
only then I need to root and finally flash it
I installed this " ROM Manager " where you have some easy options:
Install ROM from SD card, Download Rom, Check for ROM Updates
just with a click (tap)
That one is easier, but does it work ? How come noone mentions this ROM Manager ?
That are many ROMs to choose..
I take it VillainROM 5.4 is the most popular/older ?
As long as it has Android 2.1 plus the latest Sense UI (not vanilla) then the number of options get trimmed a bit (or so I hope)

Its not too difficult, follow BTDAG's guide in my signature, its bang on. Install custom recovery, flash ROM.
No you do not need to downgrade your kernal. When you flash the ROM it will sort that out for you.
As for using 2.1 ROMs, I haven't taken the plunge yet, I'm using MCR3.2 which is a tweaked fast and stable 1.5 ROM.
You're right, btdag's guide did it for me. Very very useful.
Since I didn't have to worry about kernel, it wasn't thaaat hard.
I already installed VillainRom 5.4 and it's great !
Thanks for answering my questions !

[Q] Sense 2.1/2.2 with OC but no major changes?

Hello everybody,
I just got a T-Mobile G2 / HTC Hero (I have the T-Mobile version), and it is right now running the stock UK T-Mobile 2.1 ROM which is actually pretty stable and fast (to my surprise).
However, I am looking to replace it with a generic WWE HTC one (instead of T-Mobile) that has these features if possible:
* OC allowed
* A2SD / A2SD+
* minor speed / stability tweaks
* Sense experience a must
* other improvements incl trackball for SMS notifications
Is there such a ROM out there? Basically I am asking for a minimally changed 2.1 ROM that is as close as possible to the stock experience, but with the added bonus of OC and A2SD/A2SD+ and any speed, memory or stability tweaks that users have discovered.
I insist on Sense, I really love it and I don't want to go to Vanilla.
Please help me out!
PS: Also, is there a RUU available of the stock T-Mobile ROM in case I ever want to return it to factory condition?
Here is what my phone was shipped with:
2.1-update1
63.18.55.06MU_6.35.13.09
2.6.29-5f74b252
3.31.11-.1 CL183682 release-keys
3.31.110.1
WebKit 3.1
At the moment 2.2 is still a big buggy :/
If You want to try 2.1 -> go and check RC mix.
You would just need to strip some extra apps that come installed along with it, but it's one of the best ROM's I tested.

[Q] Few questions about flashing...

Im not super new to flashing but ive got some reservations about flashing on my new s4. Previously ive installed CM7.1/2 on my droid incredible and my B&N nook color and a few other / older phones for people at work ( dont like doing it anymore, you broke my phone crap ).
So my questions are thus:
1 - Do I not need to flash gapps anymore or is this included in the rom itself?
2 - Camera support. Which rom(s) have full camera support or more specifically has multishot or on stock the octo-shot-choose-what-you-want. Must have video support as well
3 - iR blaster support would be nice
4 - Bloatware : gtf off my phone
Im really not to picky as far as roms go but these are the few features I need and or want to have support for very soon. As I said at the top im fairly used to CWM and CM7 combo as they have been very fast and stable for almost all situations in the past.
I'd check out the Hyperdrive, Gruesome, Cleanrom, and Jelly Beans roms. Theyre all located in the Android Development section (not the one that says "original"). Those are all debloated. I'm running Hyperdrive myself and love it. It's debloated, stock camera, IR blaster still works, gapps still in there. Bunch of performance tweaks as well. I used TWRP to flash it.

[Q] What is Best Kernel/Rom For HTC Droid incredible 4G Lte.

Hello I recently got this phone and got help with s-off and unlocking. Now I am trying to figure out the best rom/kernel configuration to get the best performance possible. If you know of any just put links here. I got the most performance out of the sense 5 mod rom, with a 7300 quadrant score! There was a kernel I saw that the CPU could go to 2.0ghz and the gpu was overlooked 500mhz 3d and idk what the 2d was, I think it was called [sense] infernal kernel but I am not clear on what roms I can use it on, I tried flashing it on the sense 5 mod rom and it didn't boot. Anyway thanks for any help.
Sent from my Incredible 4G LTE using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
well, the "infernal kernel" (latest rev. is 1.42) by jose ... at best maybe the 1.8GHz-version, as above could be instable on most phones, is definately THE choice to go for for all stock-based roms = thereby ONLY for any custom-rom BASED on the _stock-htc ICS4.0.4 rom-image with Sense4.1_, since his modded kernel is based on those kernel-sources. the probably very BEST ICS4.0.4 rom is ViperLTE2.2.0, but unfortunately development has ceased and thereby no newer improvements will come and the rom is abandoned, still most ppl (that like/love Sense) here still this one as their main rom.
the neat Infernal4+ rom (also by jose and others) is JB4.1 and also has an infernal-kernel (but a JB-infernal and is thereby different than the main branch) ... problem is, that camera and bt do NOT work!
if you want newer stuff ... go grab yourself the latest official CM10.2.1_stable (or the mdmower version, which uses the CM10.2.1_stable branch as a base).
i myself tested pacman-rom (CM+AOKP+PA is an all-in-one rom) ... latest is pac_fireball-nightly-20140128.zip and thereby near identical to the CM10.2.1 (just 4 days older), but with addons from AOKP and PA. their KK-roms aren't yet out. also Avatar-Rom (used to be JB4.3, now also KK4.4) was also pretty prominent ...
those are the most common roms i'd say, but grab yourself your own favorite rom ... i myself would go for either ViperLTE2.2.0 (still ICS, but stock-based) ... or take the last JB4.3 PacMan-Rom for all its features

The CM 10.2.1 version is what I put on my wife's phone.
