Hi everybody. All who currently use (or have been using) Gingerbread on our precious U's
knows that there isn't any custom kernel for GB with working wifi tether. I'm aware
of GingerBeanSS where everything works, but CWM is integrated into ROM, rather than in kernel.
So, after some research I've managed to fix wifi tether in custom kernel
Features of this kernel are the same as one from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2064997
which is I believe in turn based on:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688147
Additions made by me:
-fixed wifi tether;
-Busybox updated to 1.20.2;
-Superuser replaced with SuperSU (latest version, 1.91).
Without any further ado, here are download links,
one for the kernel.elf and one for the flashable zip (CWM):
ELF file:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/b75q4gco8ec5zgd/kernel.elf
CWM zip:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/ms5uahhqyfmle4u/StockGbkernel.zip
I hope you will find this useful
Big thanks to @DooMLoRD for creating this kernel in first place!

I must stress that I'm just low-level "developer". I just tinker until I find the solution
But to my knowledge, I don't believe that this could be done for GB roms

I have tried every possible ROM for Xperia U. On every single ROM, there was something that bugged me, but on GB, user experience is unparalleled. Everything is so snappy, fluid, fast... Not a single hitch! All which I have to lose are newer versions of Opera, Chrome and Gmail, but I can live without those. Finally I can use my phone as phone, without call/SMS lags, while still using it as a multimedia device

I agree with you! I have tried all other roms, but GB is faster in general, in multitasking, in autofocus etc ...and so I came back every time !
I've ever thought that we need a better kernel... And you, maybe, point to this way!

Whoa, hold your horses I'm not that crafty and I don't have that much time on my hands (have to study for my exams), but if anyone is willing to add them, please, be my guest
Please upload your kernel source to GitHub, as kernel sources are under GPLv2 license you must share it

As stated in the OP, kernel isn't my original work, I just fixed and updated some things by means of tearing apart and putting back together kernels which can be found by following links provided in OP. I know that first version of this kernel was made by DooMLoRD.
Maybe I should put link to Sony's sources, since this is just a stock based kernel with added functionality?
I was afraid that someone would come asking this
P.S.
I am pretty noobish concerning android development, so I don't know my way around GitHub. If anyone is willing, he is free to upload it there

I have stock ics installed on my Xperia U which is very laggy.
I want a rom with the following features -
1) Working WiFi and BlueTooth
2) ICS (or jb too)
3) Smooth
No keyboard lags.
If you know such a ROM for my device, kindly link me to it please?
Thank you in advance.:good:
In my opinion, if thats what you only want bro, you can either use unstoppable JB or CM9

Download the Lite version (v6) these removes many things that just take up memory.
I've used it enough to say that meets your requirements, remember that you need to have unlocked bootloader

Hello again,
I just found out that Meizu uploaded the PRO 5 sources to GitHub.
Now, to recap:
- The bootloader of the international PRO 5 can be unlocked.
- @Naphtha is Hopefully someone can start working on a custom recovery for the PRO 5.
- PRO 5 sources were just uploaded online.
Are there any people who can create a solid CM (or other ROM) port for the PRO 5?
Thanks

Hello,
Just a stupid question, With this sources and futurs ROMs, is it possible to unlock 800mHz LTE Frequencies ? Or is it a hardware feature that won't exist on this devices ? Because the Exynos can handle it
Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's hardware limitation becauce, modem should be same as samsung GS6 but, unlocking more bands need good skill developer that it seems there are not many for this phone now
Guys but some custom recovery for this phone?

Maybe someone will now port an aosp or official/unofficial CyanogenMod for it.
The hardware of the Meizu Pro 5 is really superb but the OS...well not everyone likes that. And I would not be surprised if people are deterred from buying a Meizu just because of the OS.

I love Flyme but there is too many bugs really annoying.
And i love the form factor and the hardware of the Pro 5, if we can have this with a stable and snappy aosp rom it's perfect.

There are extremely few devices with recent Exynos processors that have any real support at all from the development community, the main problem being Samsung not offering the needed sources as other companies do (like Qualcomm for example). Meizu isn't quite the most popular brand in the world so it's even less likely to have any support. Of course, it would be nice to have, but I don't think it will happen in the near future. I for one like the FlymeOS, it's very snappy compared to the S6/Note5 and also quite stable.

Now I'm waiting to see someone unlock more 4g bands on phone like Samsung gs6
Has anyone managed to boot any custom kernel on their device? As far as I'm concerned every single ROM, available for Redmi 3 (whether it is CM12/13, Resurrection Remix or else) run stock kernels, built by Xiaomi. I tried to compile CM 12 kernel, CM 13 kernel, Open Source Xiaomi kernel, I used gcc 5, gcc 4, UberTC, Google toolchain, I tried modular kernel, monolithic one with no success. It just doesn't boot, though it has the same version and build settings as a stock one.
So am I doing something wrong or Redmi 3 is indeed vendor-locked to boot only Xiaomi kernels?
From the forums I would think no one has gotten it to boot in a custom kernel. I would very much like it if it were possible.
the sources for redmi 3 have not been fully released.. I don't think we will see a full working custom kernel for a while

I'd love a custom kernel. Trouble is I'm not good at coding. Seems Xiaomi is mercilessly difficult about releasing the source code, something I thought was illegal, and this device is locked up as tight as fort Knox.

its actually supposed to be only the mtk devices that source code was difficult to release. qualcomm is usually better in this aspect, even if it is slow. it was like this for samsung as well. we eventually got the codes for everything, just later than what everyone else would have wanted
