Keyboard Case - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I'm looking for a thumb keyboard case to work with my Note 3. Something small that I will be able to touch type with without looking at the keyboard. Does anyone know any that they trust aren't a crappy product?
I did find this one, but I want to be sure before I buy it. http://www.amazon.com/TOP®-Bluetooth-Removeable-Detachable-Portfolio/dp/B00FRDVXHO

Why wouldn't you just use 1 of one of the gazillions of keyboards and mice that are out there (bluetooth)?

I want one that fits the size of the Note specifically. Not just a random bluetooth keyboard for any phone.
and I'm talking about a really small thumb keyboard. Like those on the old Env's

I know right! I've already dented my phone because they're taking too long! Ughh the struggle

I would like a slider keyboard case for the Note. To turn it into a Droid basically. Of course even better would be if Samsung made a slider version of the Galaxy or Note. I do NOT like onscreen keyboards or keys. Still miss my Droid 2 qwerty. Love TouchWiz but miss those lovely hard keys. There are still a lot of qwerty fans out here. Even if it was just an add-on case I'd buy it, if it was a very good quality product I'd pay up to 70 or 80 for it. But not for some some cheapo wallet case with an iphone bluetooth keyboard in it. Slim, sliding if possible, and nice big keys for the Note with good layout design. Anyone else dig it?

I'm not going to write long articles with it. Though if it's comfortable I might. I just want it for every-day texting and what not. I am a write, so my average text is never under the 164 character limit or whatever the limit is. And Idk why it would matter what swiftkey supports.

I know what would be just the PERFECT lil keyboard for you...the TREWGrip: Universal Handheld Keyboard and Air Mouse that's currently trying to get enough funding through their KickStarter campaign...THIS looks like just the keyboard for ya! Also, here's a short-n-sweet little review from NBC News for you. This new little device seems to have a lot of people either lovin' it or hatin' it, with most people leaning over towards the latter. I, myself, have never seen such a thing in the wild and I'm also not a big fan of keyboards, let alone keyboards like this one...but to each his own. At least check it out, as it's a very interesting new piece of technology that's at the very least worth reading about! :good:

We want a keyboard case so it can fit in our pocket. Thank you everyone for the links.. But a big bluetooth keyboard or that weird sideways keyboard aren't fitting in a pocket. The Note is already giving my pocket a workout! Well I'll wait for now, or maybe make one myself.

We'll be waiting forever. No one seems to be interested in making one... If you do end up making one please let me know! I will pay you for it.

Ugh I know. I'd be willing to pay a LOT. Like $70 or even a bit more if it was GOOD. Not hacked together. Though even if it was a bit hacked together if it worked and was relatively durable I'd pay near to half that. Yeah if I make one it probably won't be pretty lol but i'll keep you updated. I'll post how I did it if so. I'll wait a bit more and keep looking for QWERTY slider keyboard cases for the Note 3. I will post back if one is found!

Thumb Keyboard

Wow, I highly recommend this keyboard, it works great and is really easy to type on and has very good text correction and prediction. It works way better than the stock keyboard imo.

Agreed. I had thumb keyboard on my Xoom before I returned it and loved it. Got it on my Tab now. Good looking out.
yeah....same here...the best.

Edit...OK this keyboard rocks. Once you get the hang off it its lightning fast.
Purchased the app after reading this thread...
So worth it.
I love this app. I bought it when the Xoom came out and now i cant stand using the regular keyboard layout. I can type so much fast with my two thumbs, and you don't have to set the tablet down to type.
* Make sure you go into Settings - Layout Keyboard... Custom Layout or Predefined layout and change it to Tablet: 10" Layout settings for best the layout in my opinion.
good app.It is much better and convenient than the stock keyboard.
Yeah if you don't use this on your tablet you are a glutton for punishment. This app is amazing, best keyboard I've found for a tablet.
It feels like a love-fest in here, but to be honest ... I agree.
I bought this app too. I can type much faster using this rather than stock. I only wish that there was an option to reduce the size of the keyboard to make less travel between keys.
So can anyone compare this with the swiftkey beta that seems similar?

Ok, I can answer my own question now, I went ahead and grabbed a copy of Thumb Keyboard. If you set to the 10" tablet layout, in landscape mode at least, the layouts are pretty similar. Thumb looks less tacky because the tablet swiftkey x beta only has a neon theme that I really dislike. Thumb feels more precise somehow, hard to quantify that, and certainly seems more responsive. It offers quite a few more choices for what word you might be wanting to complete, but it's completely missing the swiftkey feature that's sometimes nice, which is guessing the next word you want to type before you start typing it - it does this by analyzing your past conversations from gmail, facebook, etc. It's actually spookily good that that sometimes - you can type an entire sentence by just picking suggested "next" words.
That being said, I'm finding that thumb seems a bit faster for me at least in my limited initial testing. Think I'll keep it for a while and see how it goes. The main limitation of a tablet for me (as a laptop replacement or at least supplement) is ability to generate text rapidly; while this doesn't get me anywhere near the speed I can achieve on a "real" keyboard, it's a step in the right direction.
Thanks y'all for the recommendation.

I just bought it and it owns everything else for tablets.
Just an FYI this app is on sale now, HALF PRICE! According to the market page as of 6/21/11 it is on sale for €0.99 (about $1.42 USD). I have yet to use it but if it is as good as all of these reviews say then I am sure I would be pleased. But I figured I would let you know for those of you who were sitting on the fence due to the cost, now's your chance to save a little bit.

UPDATE: okay so I have been using Thumb Keyboard a lot this evening and I have to agree that it is awesome. I was skeptical and holding out for SwiftKey to release their final tablet friendly version but I am glad I purchased this. Functionality in portrait mode as well as landscape mode is top notch. This is also extremely customizable with skins and keypress sounds. While it does not have the text prediction capability of SiftKey it definitely is a must have for any tablet owner.
I must admit that this keyboard rocks. Plus its on sale. Can't go wrong for that dollar fifty.

Need a new keyboard app!

Ok so i hate the stock asus keyboard on this thing. What do you guys suggest for an alternate?
I love swype on my evo 3d but i hear that it doesnt work that great on the prime. I would like a good swype alternate or a split keyboard.

I dont really care about keyboards since im going to be keeping mine docked most of the time.. but my wife loves Slide IT. It is pretty much Swype for tablet. It is normally $5.99 I think but right now its on sale for $0.99 Has lots of nice free themes all over the market too.

Try A.I.type keyboard.
I used it alot on my HP touchpad (running android). It was very good. Just got my prime this morning and haven't had a chance to do too much with it other than update it to ICS.
here is the Link
I've now used Swype (doesn't fit the screen and a pop-up message to that effect comes up every time you type something). It does work in landscape mode, but not at all in portrait -- you end up with something entirely different than the keys you swyped or tapped. So that was a no go.
I've been using Thumb Keyboard for a few days, but it doesn't work all that well for me, especially since there seem to be many times when I'm holding the device and need to type one-handed. So, it's better than stock, but not perfect for me.
Now I'm using SlideIT, with the metal blue skin that matches ICS perfectly. It's beautiful, fits both landscape and portrait modes flawlessly, and works like a charm.
Unless and until Swype releases a version that works with the Prime's screen resolution, I'm sticking with SlideIT.

I'm the developer of Thumb Keyboard and I'm very interested in this. Do you mean that the performance of TKB is worse or are you referring to the text prediction?
The strategy of Thumb Keyboard is to have user adjustable layouts so that typos are reduced to a minimum. (So correction can be reduced to a miminum). In particular for the Transformer there's an option to adjust the width of the two halves so that the keys are reachable despite the large bezel.
I'm working on a new update (version 5) that will make use of the advanced spelling engine of Ice cream sandwich. Tests have shown that these are as powerful as AI prediction.
flext9 better than sywpe in my opinion

The ASUS keyboard can function the same way Swype does, you just have to enable it in the settings. Having said that, I use Thumb Keyboard.

hey guys - I use the phone version and I LOVE it. I installed the free trial on my prime just now but it doesn't pick up what I'm typing. If I'm typing quickly, it skips letters unless I slow down. Do any of you have this issue? It makes it impossible to type on!
Gonna try an uninstall/reinstall real quick.
edit: no go might just give up on this
I like SwiftKey Tablet X.. Works great and like the word prediction and split keybord.
Haven't had any problems. You with problem have you download the correct one? and have you tried to type in different apps/place so there isn't the program you uses that make the SwiftKey to perform bad.

No I dont have this problem but i do not do much typing where i am speed typing. My biggest gripe, which is not the keyboards fault, is the autp rotation is too sensitive. Many times i am typing something slightly move the screen and rotates and i lose my spot or completely lose what i'm typing because i hit the back button.
On my phone (Desire with CM7) I use and love Swype. I understand that an ICS-compatible version will be available at the end of January. That said, I can see that it won't be as neat on the Prime's form factor. We'll see.
In the mean while I'm using Thumb Keyboard 4, on the recommendation of another thread on this forum. Current view: the best of the bunch; fairly good but has some flaws (e.g. doesn't auto-capitalise "I", no visible key for a comma; auto-complete/correct doesn't feel quite as smooth as I'd like). Also doesn't suit my fat fingers
In short I really miss Swype, but fear that it won't be quite as good as on my phone, particularly in landscape.

It's the best keyboard I've used. Swype and the likes aren't very efficient on tablets.
I'm loving thumb keyboard as well. I even started using it over HTC ime on my phone, which I have used for a year and a half on my Droid X, t bolt, and bionic.
I am not the developer of thumb keyboard and i have every app mentioned here and then some. Hands down thumb keyboard for tablets. Not even close. Having the options for split keyboard and for a half screen keyboard for when you are walking around cradling the tablet with one hand and typing with the other is the greatest. No other feature can be more valuable.

Hackers Keyboard on the GNote?

NOTE: I haven't received my Note yet, so I can't test it out. I thought I'd share and see if anyone has any feedback.
This keyboard is usually very good for tablets (it's really nice on my CM7.2 Nook Color), so I thought it might be nice on our Notes, if only landscape.

I tried it just now. Its a pretty awesome concept but I found the buttons too small for the note. I tried 4 row and 5 row setups. I think part of the problem is that I have larger hands.

Yeah, I thought it'd be too small for even our Note. I'll probably install it and save it for a backup because it would likely be good for CMD/Terminal usage with all the extra functions (such as tab and escape). Thanks for the feedback by the way!
downloaded it this morning. used it all day. i got used to it but it did take me a while to get it set up like i wanted to. all in all, i like it.
I was using Thumb keyboard on the Streak until I started having some significant issues with it. Went to the Hacker's keyboard, and installed it as soon as I got sick of the built-in keyboard not having numbers on it. Been on it for a while now with no complaints.
I use hacker's KB whenever I use a terminal emulator and it works fine. Best I've found on the note so far though is perfect keyboard. Samsung was too damn big, and I like a split KB in landscape usually.

Is it good for ..... taking notes?

Hi guys,
I searched for some days, but all i find are videos of sketches, drawings etc...
What i want yo check is if the phone is actually good at writing handwritten notes. Is it easy? Or is it ok just for smsll notes?
Thanks
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
I would like to think so. I'm a note taking guy. Always trying to take notes on stock, customers, personal tasks things like that. You can even make folders and organize it to categories. You have to get use to the handwriting. Mine has improved, but started as if a 5 year old wrote them. Now looks like a 12 year old. Ive let others write things on it with better success. Could be my very own penmanship to be honest lol. I think its great for my note taking needs. I wish my Co worker had a note so that we can collaborate and share notes that we have written. In fact i chose to sick with this over the s3 because of that and size.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
If it was the note 10.1, yeah. This is good for short, quick notes. The tablet would be better for more intense note taking. The screen and pen isn't exactly the most accurate.

I actually used it to take notes for my college classes this last semester. My mileage varied, and I had to experiment a bit to get things to where it worked out. I found myself using smemo, but ended up almost never using handwriting to take the bulk of my notes that consisted of text. I would use the tablet swype beta with the pen, because I found that to be much faster than actually handwriting notes out. Plus, you can fit more info on a screen with text instead of handwriting. Also, the tablet swype has a tab key which is very useful for indenting notes.
Where the note shines for electronic note taking is its ability to combine text entered with the keyboard with sketches and pictures. Until getting my note, I had wanted and tried to take notes electronically with my laptop, but always ran into troubles with graphs, sketches, and equations. The note allows you to use both text, and also scribble those things down when needed, which I found very satisfying. And that was before premium suite, which added even more features that make it even better. Equations were always way to difficult to type up properly, so whenever I needed to take note of an equation, I would just switch to the pen and hand write it out, making fractions, integrals, exponents, and other non typical characters a breeze to record.
As for storing and organizing my notes, I used evernote to sync them into a different folder for each class after I was done for the day. Smemo/snote have a feature to sync to evernote right in the app, so its really simple and useful.
If you're planning on getting the note anyways (not sure why anybody wouldn't if they're looking for a new phone), its definitely possible and worth a shot.
Edit: I agree with the others though on the fact that the note 10.1 would be the real way to go, but for what the note can do as a phone, its friggen amazing and makes me excited about the future of the line. I told myself I don't need a tablet, but thinking about the note 10.1 makes me almost want to get it purely for note taking in class, just because the experience has been satisfactory on my note already, and the same experience on a bigger screen would be awesome.

I would consider the keyboard if I could type fast on one. I swype faster than I type, as I use two fingers on a normal keyboard. Always hated that b*tch Mavis Beacon...haha.
Yes, the note doesn't work for everybody, but I just said they should consider it. There are a few female users on here, or users who have wives with notes that love it even though they have small hands and pockets. I see the size as a double edged sword, its either love or hate I suppose. Haha. It's definitely worth a look by everybody.
Also, I usually get more awestruck looks and questions than teasing when people see my phone. Only my close friends will tease and call it a tablet, and I just say, damn straight, I friggen love my tablet!

Note to bring up an old-ish thread but... I was wondering about this exact same thing.
I'm currently going for my Bachelors in Petrol Eng and have a lot of Math to go through.
I was mainly interested in the phone because of the sheer size of the phone, but I am worried that I couldn't go back to anything smaller and more normal and rationally sized after having a Note.
But how is it for Calculus notes? Or does anyone have any take on this?

Like I've said, its definitely doable, but can take some getting used to. I would make sure and get on an ICS rom with premium suite, as then you would have maximum functionality, and I found the spen to be even more accurate. I haven't tried it, but there is an equation tool even in the premium suite s note application, which could potentially be really useful. However, if you wanted to guarantee good note taking, I would get the Note 10.1 when it comes out, as it has the same functionality but a much larger screen.

Pointless and stupid to some is amazing to another. Windows tablets were considered pointless and stupid in 1998 but now iPads and Nexus tabs are all the rage and we got muvvaz dying to get a Windows 8 tablet. There's something called taste, and another called opinion, which we are all entitled to, though to feed the trollage, the Motodocks don't sell due to Moto not being a huge brand anymore (not many phones sold = less people wanting a lapdock for their phone), the price was around the price of a full laptop and that they are pretty much aimed at the techies. The number of techies out there compared to normal consumers is pretty low, but much larger when you look at techies overall compared to Motorola phone owning techies, and a lapdock that runs with any top end android or ios device at a lower price has a lot more scope for sales. I would love to pick one up for £80-100, would stretch to £150 if I could have one device work with my S3, 4S and iPad 3 rather than needing to buy separate connectors.
