possible to skip some steps? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

so i have a stock NT and i wanna put cm11 on it i was wondering if i could skip rooting it and just fastboot flash the recovery.img provided in the cm11 page and then flash cm11 straight from that, is it possible to just do this?

I don't think there is anyway to fastboot with NT stock ROM's boot.
You will need SD-based CWM (or TWRP) recovery to bootstrap the process of rooting or flashing CM.

To flash CM11 you'll need use the recent CWM 6.0.4.3+ or TWRP 2.6.3.1+, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48855275&postcount=2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47692350&postcount=24 for getting flashable zip of these recovery versions.
(Alternatively you should be able to boot off SD-based Cyanoboot and select fastboot, then proceed to flash recovery using fastboot mode as you were originally considering).
After flashing these internal recovery, you'll need to boot off SD again and then (in Cyanoboot menu) select the new internal recovery to flash CM11 and corresponding Gapps.

Just use the aio root and recovery tool from your PC...first use prep for recovery option then install the custom cwm or twrp versions from there...after that you can flash a newer version from there...make sure you download loki'd versions only...this is assuming you are still mkd...if not you are lucky not to have bricked your s4

[Q] Sola bricked during flash of CM10: please help!

Hello
I was just trying to flash CM10 into my Sola
I unlocked the bootloader
I root it
Installed Recovery ROM
Made backup of current ROM
Wipe/Factory Reset
While flashing in Recovery Mode I got the error 7 message, so the instructions were to do the flash of the rom through flashtool
Flashed the rom through flashtool
After reboot, it's stucked on the initial "FreeXperia" image and it freezes there
I can enter in fastboot and flashmode, but I tried to flash again the "MT27_6.1.1.B.1.54_KERNEL.ftf" firmware, but the only thing that changes is the "FreeXperia" colorful image to the standard "Sony" logo.
What can I do?! How come it doesn't boot?!
Please help.
Do following:
- Shut down your phone
- connect it to your computer in fastboot mode (with volume up hold)
- flash the boot.img which is inside the ROMs .zip
- Do your steps again (enter recovery, wipe etc)
I've flashed the boot.img of CM10 before.
Well, the problem is that I cannot enter recovery mode!
Only fastboot and flashmode

Ok, I could get into recovery mode. I just restored my rom backup (STOCK ICS with root and unlocked bootloader)
I followed all the instructions. Should I repeat the process and expect a different result?!

Isn't this the rom I should flash in recovery?

Yup that's it, but first flash boot.img from the rom with fastboot.
Don't expect the phone to boot because this kernel is not comoatible with stock ROM go strait to recovery, do whatever is needed (factiry rest, clear dalvik and cache etc) as instructed in it's thread, and fash the zip

So, just to be clear:
I flash boot.img from the CM10 rom with fastboot using Flashtool, right?
Then, in recovery, I flash the CM10 zip file, correct?

Well, I still get the (Status 7) error. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.
My only doubt is if I'm using the correct recovery. How can I know that?
My current recovery is CWM Touch v5.5.0.4 (modified CWM by Munjeni)
Honestly, I'm getting do reallly tired of this.
For 2 days I've been trying to install this ROM and I always get stuck with the /(&)(#$ "status 7" error.
Here is what I do step by step, so someone can point me in the right directions because, quite frankly, I just wan to throw this phone over the window right now...
1. After I get the "status 7" error I restore my rom backup, which brings me to stock ICS with unlocked bootloader and with root
2. I reboot in fastboot mode and, with Flashtool, I flash the boot.img I extracted from the "cm-10-20140113-UNOFFICIAL-pepper.zip"
3. I enter in recovery mode and wipe all the data/cache/delvik cache etc (I've also tried to do this BEFORE flashing the boot.img)
4. Still in recovery, I choose "Install zip from sdcard" and select the "cm-10-20140113-UNOFFICIAL-pepper.zip" (I've also tried to select this file without the boot.img file)
5. I get the status 7 error!!!!!!
Please help, as it is driving me nuts!
Redownload the ROM and try again. I'll give you a step by step instruction now:
- redownload the ROM and push it to your phones storage
- shut down your phone and connect it via fastboot to your computer
- Open the flashtool and flash the boot.img from the rom.zip via fastboot.
- after flashing, disconnect your phone from your computer, then wait some seconds
- Now power on your phone and enter recovery
- now you make a full wipe (wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (advanced), format /system (mounts and storage)
- After the full wipe, try to flash the redownloaded ROM again
What exectly the status 7 is for, look at the log.
It fails right in the first assert line of code. I've also tried to remove the assert line, as suggested somewhere on the forum, but then I get a "Status 6" error. I'll try to re-download the zip file when I get home...

the assert n ro.product.device and ro.build.product? This should not happen with the recovery that comes with the ROM.
Well, that may explain it, as I'm not sure I'm using the correct recovery rom, as I didn't knew there was a recovery on this rom.
The instructions in the thread are:
Make a backup of your current rom
Wipe data/factory reset in recovery
Flash CM10 (If you get error 7 while flashing exctract the boot.img from the rom zip, and flash it via fastboot)
Flash Ultra Slim Gapps
Reboot & Enjoy!
So, I had to find a recovery ROM and that is what I did. So maybe that's the problem: I'm not using the correct recovery rom.
What can I do now to change it?

What recovery ROM, you only need to install thr boot.img from the ROM file.
What ROM are you trying to install(link)?
As stated in this thread, I'm trying to install CM10 (cm-10-20140113-UNOFFICIAL-pepper.zip).
My recovery rom is CWM Touch v5.5.0.4 (modified CWM by Munjeni)

Your recovery is probably missing those props and yould fail every time, you must use the recovery of the ROM.by flashint boot.img.
And I have asked a link for the ROM you dounload just to make sure it's props are OK, so I need a link.
If it don't let you post a link try to qrap it with code tags (the # button in thepost editor)

[Q] how to uninstall twrp and cwm recovery?

You installed twrp to boot partition, that's why it boots directly into twrp (using fastboot flash boot twrp.img) You need to flash TWRP to recovery partition (using fastboot flash recovery twrp.img). Then enter recovery, install ROM, and flash boot image to boot partition (fastboot flash boot boot.img).

[Q] Cyanogen Recovery has no backup/restore options

I just installed Cyanogenmod. In the recovery there's no option to backup or restore (and the apply update always fails the signature verification). All I see on the recovery screen is
Reboot system now
Apply update]
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe media
Reboot to bootloader
Power down
Viw recovery logs
How can I backup/restore? It's my understanding that recoveries are designed for the stock kernel, and Cyanogenmod came with it's own kernel? I didn't know this because Cyanogenmod is a ROM, not a kernel
CyanogenMod Recovery is very basic. Flash another recovery more advanced for your phone.

Download rashr from playstore. That worked for me.
Also make sure that in developer settings, that it doesn't update recovery when you update Cm. Make sure it's off, and you'll keep your recovery. I flashed twrp. That worked well for me with the CM recovery.
If Rashr does not work (sometimes it doesn't for me), use fastboot:
1. Download the TWRP.img from their website https://twrp.me/devices/sonyxperiaz2.html
2. connect your phone into fastbootmode (shut down phone, press volume up and connect usb cable)
3. do the following command, to flash the recovery:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-sirius.img

Yea, I'd like to know why there is no recovery in Cynogen recovery.
And if we install another recovery, doesn't that wipe our phone?

Recovery issue

I have done fasboot format of my phone and erased recovery. So i flashed boot.img of stock rom After flashing boot image i tried to reboot to recovery mode but it is stuck at boot logo. What should i do to boot into stock recovery? Thanks
As far as I know, the rmn3 doesn't have a stock recovery installed.
You can, however, use MiFlash to flash a MIUI ROM. Run through setup, and you should be able to flash a custom recovery from there.
But why?
