So I have a car with a touch screen and an HDD, so I was wondering if I could just pop out the HDD and install Android on there. I'm not sure if multi touch would work, but to me it seems like it should work. If you ask why, simply because I would like to. I think it would be fun.
I have taken out the HDD to update the car NAVI and it hooks up to the computer just like an external. Now as to the strength of the computer inside I'm not too sure, I don't even know where I would go to find that out.
The car that I have is a Nissan Presage 2007 Highway Star. It's a Japanese model, I live in Japan.

Yesterday i was chatting away on the phone , and realized i wanted a solution that would let me control the phone from the pc.
I installed droidvnc server but somehow it doesn't work, it automatically stops the server as soon as you try to connect to it.
So today i thought of another solution (besides buying a bluetooth keyboard), which is to emulate a bluetooth keyboard in software installed to the pc.
I have searched this and apparently it isn't easy to do. I have a bluetooth dongle on my windows laptop, but this isn't enough since i would need to emulate the proper hid profile.
Is this possible? Or do you know of another solution?
This sounds like some Xzibit 'Pimp my Atrix' type mod. Yo dawg! I heard you like to input text on your device while your talking on it but cant see; So I installed an emulator on your laptop keyboard so now you can type on your laptop while you type on your phone while you talk on your phone but cant see!

Dude WTF. i'm not looking for a headset.
I want to use my laptop's keyboard as the phone's keyboard over bluetooth.
In linux, there's a program called hidclient that seems to do this. I want to do this from windows. Basically i want a virtual bluetooth keyboard.
Well I was trying to make you laugh but I guess no luck..
Have you tried the "Phone Portal" app in your app drawer? It will allow you to send sms and such via your computers keyboard.
What do you think about that?
I already have a old windows bluetooth keyboard that works with android.
I only use computer to surf the webb, write, read. Watch some youtube.
Can bluetooth mouse be used with android? Not that it's necessery, but i'm curious
Yes it can, quite easily in fact. If the bluetooth keyboard and mouse suppor the HID profile, you should be good to go. Also, if you get an MHL adapter and connect it to an HDMI display you can push your screen out to a larger one.
Is this issue already fixed that an activated Bluetooth connection slows down your WiFi? For surfing the tablet may be okay, but for me it won't replace the desktop in the near future.. There are no drivers for special devices, it's way slower and if you try serious work on a tablet... Well, prepare some relaxing tea
Hi
I have tried searching the net, here, and everywhere else.
I am unsure if I am even searching using the right terminology.
I have a A501 and a SGSIII.
I want to mount the Tablet in my car and then have the ability to remotely (Bluetooth preferable, but if I have do it WIFI that is ok.) control my phone, which may be in my pocket or in my bag.
So basically have the tablet display my phone screen.
Be able to stream the music from there.
Use Data (Maps and other Internet based things.)
So, is it possible?
I know there are "Mimic" head units available.
This is something similar, but would prefer it not to be handled via a cable, and just use my current tablet as the external screen for the mobile phone.

Hi,
since i hate using a touch screen while driving, i bought myself a Space Navigator 3D mouse. I want to build a car pc with a raspberry pi (or a cubieboard) and would love to use Android.
The only problem is: There are not really a lot of car frontends in the marked. And all of them that exist are entirely for touchscreen. They just dont work with a keyboard/d-pad…
What i want is to have something like the Mercedes Comand or BMW i-drive system, where you have that main controler in the middle and you can navigate with just right-left-up-down and the scroll-wheel. Personally i would like to have a top bar with all the main menu items (Sound (which includes Radio, "normal" Music and other stuff), Navigation, Telephone, Car information and Settings), the middle would be the actual display area and the bottom has some complementary information...
It looks like i have to start program something like that myself - the question is, where do i start and what would be the best approach for something like that? A whole "app", or maybe only a frontend for something else, like XBMC which works quite well on android and with the SpaceNavigator? Or maybe i can adapt something from the Parrot asteroid? The Remote is essentially the same thing - essentially the Asteroid is the thing i want, the only problem is, that the Mini is to small and the tablet/2-Din unit doesn't have the remote...
If anyone has some input, i would love to hear it. But as i said - i hate touchscreens while driving...
Greetings,
David
Hello! First sorry for my poor language.
Polish android forums can tell me only stupid ideas, these people can't use brains.
I want to open discussion about mounting smartphone with Android to car. Important things: considered connect charger(i have car electric items and idea how to connect and hide wiring), make car recorder(AutoGuard app), make audio source(bluetooth connected for car radio - without wiring), sometimes use Torque app(i have OBD 2 mini ELM adapter).
I have some old phone - Samsung SM-G350. Car is passat b5, but its not important.
My samsung is rooted, have cyanogenmod 11 on android 4.4.4. I'm searching ideas for reaction in my telephone when i turn on my engine. For example - if i turn engine on, car charger is working and callphone battery is loading. I want to in this moment run AutoGuard and start recording, or screen is displaying always and is unlocked.
Have some ideas? Maybe change android files? Some scripts? Help me, i need to good advices.
You need the Android Auto for that, old cars don't usually have it.
To have something mounted, your best option is to get an Android Auto receiver, but you'll have to do the research with your car info and stuff like that. You could also just get a simple phone mount for pretty cheap on an online store like Amazon.
With Tasker, possibly, you might be able to use that root capability to its potential by setting up some automation stuff that opens apps once the phone detects power input (once it is plugged in).
Android Auto is a good option, but I don't think that it runs on Android 4.4.4. You'll have to get something newer.
(I also just realized that this is a really old thread that people are responding to now. )
