[Q] When and where to install Busybox? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Should Busybox (and the Linux stuff it downloads) be installed directly after rooting, or after every single flashing of a ROM? I am assuming this has to be done after every flash only.
Another thing, should Busybox be installed to /system/bin, or /system/xbin? By default Busybox wants to install to /system/bin. I am safely assuming that formatting /system in recovery would remove all the Busybox components. Please correct me if I'm wrong. To some people, formatting /system before flashing a ROM is imperative.

It should be install after rooting.and if flashed rom doesn't come with root and busybox, then you have to root and install busybox

Does Busybox only need installed once? Or is it a constant thing to download and install after flashing a ROM? This is already assuming you've rooted.

Its not really compulsory to install busybox when you have flash a rooted ROM as its there already

It need to be installed only ince. And if rom is rooted no need to install

So if you root, you don't have to install Busybox if you plan on installing a custom ROM soon after? Are you saying Busybox is only meant to be installed by users who plan to stick w/stock root?

Install Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip in CWM from http://androidsu.com/superuser/
If you have CWM then you have already rooted it
As I understood you want to change the program that grants SU access to other apps?
Why do you need that?
I think that you will not have any better changes from that...

Hey, did you look in SuperSu settings? There is everything you need. By the way I can't see the rationale to absolutely change your Su app and binary. They are now both the same in features.
Check in SuperSU settings there are options to ease the transition to superusrr, than download superuser on Play, and update the binary.
You dont have to root to have CWM you can remove the cache file in the CF root file. And you will have CWM and no super user

Find Superuser.apk and su (binary) on XDA-Developers forum et put "su" on /system/xterm/ and "superuser.apk" on /system/app/.

You didn't give enough info. If you are completely stock, then no. But if you have previously flashed a custom recovery (CWR or TWRP), if you update TWRP it will root your phone.

"if you have previously flashed a custom recovery"
You need a pc now, he was saying if you had ever flashed a custon recovery and still had it installed you wouldn't need a pc.
Bones stock requires a pc.

Using phone without Busybox?

Hi all,
I want to ask one question. I flashed a CWM recovery to my i9300, and installed root (superuser.apk) via sideload. I don't changed kernel, it is stock. But I haven't installed Busybox. So, I want to know, is there a big problem? May I be able to use all root features and apps? Will I be able to flash some mods via CWM recovery? I am not developer, and I want to use stock ROM with some root tweaks and mods.
Thanks in advance.
Many root apps require busy box. There are installers on play
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
As above, I use Sterriksons installer from play, just search for busybox, many root apps need it

How did you root and what root are you using (SuperSU or Superuser)?
All you did was root? Did you install any root applications?
That happens to me sometimes too. Are you running a custom rom?

I always flash using TWRP also :highfive: But it's just some ROMs for me that have these kinds of bugs.
I would just flash a new ROM if I were you, unless you plan on staying with the stock ROM? If so, you should probably pick up another one, because your UI shouldn't constantly ANR.
